With $5B in the new US infrastructure law designated for EV charging stations, there's a lot of work to be done—and a lot of taxpayer dollars at stake. . This federal funding coupled with strong consumer demand and innovative solutions from industry have created a perfect storm to drive EV adoption. Taite R. McDonald believes it's going to “change the landscape of America.” . McDonald, Equity Partner at Holland & Knight LLP, advises government contractors. In this episode of SAE Tomorrow Today, she says the $5 billion federal spend: · Is a “down payment” that will unleash billions more in private sector financing for EV infrastructure · Is a critical step for the US to catch up with other nations on clean tech and EV adoption and to hit targets in the Paris Declaration · Must be spent effectively to build consumer confidence in the viability of EVs, eliminate range anxiety, and boost green mobility . Europe's success with this type of funding model is powerful evidence the US initiative is on the right track. . UPDATE: Since the recording of this episode, The White House published FACT SHEET: Securing a Made in America Supply Chain for Critical Minerals that addresses a few unanswered questions discussed during this episode. . UPDATE: Since this episode aired, Enongo earned her PhD from Cornell in 2019 making her a triple red! Hope you enjoy! ________________________________________________________________________ Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo '08, MA '15 aka Sammus is an Ithaca-raised, Philadelphia-based rap artist, producer, and PhD student in the Department of Science & Technology Studies at Cornell University. Enongo will talk about growing up in Ithaca and the different lenses she's seen Ithaca through, and how she never felt like she had to choose between her "Ithaca-ness" and "Cornell-ness." You'll also hear about her musical influences, her heroes, what role video games play in her music, sexism in the music industry, and what we can expect from her next project coming out in 2019. Austria's Eurovision scout Eberhard Forcher discusses his approach to helping ORF choose its Eurovision artists. Eberhard takes us through the internal selection process for each of the ESC acts he has been involved in choosing in some capacity -- Zoe, Nathan Trent, Cesar Sampson, Paenda, and Vincent Bueno. There's also a lot of tea about choosing an act for Eurovision 2022. UPDATE: Since filming this earlier in November, Eberhard has told us that ORF is likely to make its decision by the end of January, and that the process is now down to just THREE acts. ORF 1 will install a new Programme Director from January 1, 2022, which makes the process slightly more complicated than in the past. 00:50 Eberhard on his career as a DJ, musician and producer 02:55 His love of Eurovision as a kid...and when Eurovision started to feel boring to him 04:00 The songs that re-ignited his Eurovision passion, including "Euphoria" and "Rise Like a Phoenix" 05:40 The Eurovision 2015 national final and The Makemakes 07:00 The difficulty of scouting for 2016 national final Wer singt für Österreich? 07:50 Zoe and "Loin d'ici" + visiting Stockholm for Eurovision 2016 11:00 Nathan Trent and "Running on Air" 14:00 Nathan getting zero points at Eurovision 2017 15:35 Cesar Sampson and "Nobody But You" 16:10 Troubles getting Russkaja and King & Potter to Eurovision 2019 18:25 Paenda and her team's refusal to make changes to their song "Limits" 20:45 Vincent Bueno and his narrow loss to Cesar Sampson in the 2018 selection 22:00 On inviting Vincent back for Eurovision 2021 and the challenges of getting a song for Rotterdam 26:00 On why "Amen" didn't make the Eurovision final. 26:30 How Eurovision 2021 inspired him and his love of Ukraine's Go_A, France's Barbara Pravi and Italy's Maneskin 28:30 The seven weeks he spent courting Bilderbuch for Eurovision 2022 31:09 Eberhard details the four finalists that remain in the internal selection for Turin 32:00 Act #1: “An electronic duo with origins in southern Tyrol” that lives in Vienna. A warm Sinica welcome to our newest network member, the China Sports Insider Podcast! If it's about sports and there's a China angle, our hosts Mark Dreyer — the China Sports Insider himself — and Haig Balian, the show's producer, will talk about it. We spoke with Lina Khoeur, a fourth year medical student at UCSF, and with Naomi Shoenfeld, a medical anthropologist and nurse practitioner who has been working and researching in the SIP hotels. Both of them shared what they have seen of the benefits the SIP hotel program has offered to tenants, and why they are asking the City to #KeepHotelsOpen.UPDATE: Since the interviews were conducted the City announced a short three month extension of the program thanks to community pressure. The company operating the Covid-19-struck ship Rio De la Plata admits it does not routinely test its crews for the virus. Eleven of the 21 crew tested positive after arriving at the Port of Tauranga. It is believed they were infected by a pilot with the Delta strain, who boarded the freighter in Queensland. After several flip flops from New Zealand government agencies, the ship docked, unloading started, stopped and restarted and then stopped again before more than 70 port workers were eventually forced to isolate and get tested for the virus. The ship has since departed for Malaysia - abandoning plans to call into Napier to unload and reload cargo - to avoid anchoring offshore until all the crew tested negative. Maersk contracts the freighter. Its Head of Oceania Market is My Therese Blank, she talks to Lisa Owen. Update: Since the interview, Maersk has confirmed it was informed on August 3 that the ship had contact with the Australian pilot, who was positive with Covid-19 at the time.
The one in which we talk about the fate of unaccompanied youth who make the treacherous journey to our southern border. Most are fleeing unimaginable circumstances in their countries of origin and are seeking asylum here; most have families with whom they seek to reunite. They make a dangerous journey, often alone and scared, and with no safe alternative. Update: Since we recorded this episode promises have been broken and many many children are being immediately sent away when they arrive at the the border.

Welcome back to Rugby PickEm! After a month off (to let things breath), we check back into a year of rugby that's sure to be constantly changing as the MLR games proceed in a month's time. Uncle Johnny, Tommy No Piks, Bt & Reiko in the house (casa de Collins) for a "State of the Rugby Union" ... - MLR Teams report. Overseas players may struggle with pandemic travel restrictions, but that may create an early season opportunity for local domestic players (ideally young and uncapped at professional level). - Dallas dispersal draft is under way. Some players have landed, others have yet to be announced. It's really good to see the league work hard to find the players who had been promised contracts in Dallas an opportunity somewhere else (ideally local to their upbringing, family, etc...). *Update* Since recording, #9th overall pick, AIC stud, Club 7s 2019 National Champ with WAC) Tommy Hunkin-Clark has signed with the Seattle Seawolves (2X usmlr Champs and home of the SeaWall). I've seen him dominate grown men at a young age (2019 Club National 7's in KC), and have complete confidence he'll end up in the Eagle pool at some stage during his rugby career. Washington talent staying local! Best of luck to Tommy and the Seawolves in the upcoming season. The 2018 Final MVP Vili Toluta'u announced he's moving on from Seattle after 3 years, so there will be fresh opportunities in the loosies. - USA Rugby announces there will be no official organized club national tournament for the 2021 spring season. This is no surprise as different regions around the country are currently operating under different rules and regulations in regard to the pandemic. They are shaping up to come back with summer 7s. Can some players in the MLR make a seamless transition from the end of the MLR season straight into club 7s in their local cities ...? (One can only hope, but some players will be burned out after a long grind. The month of July will prove to be exciting with MLR approaching playoffs and club 7s returning.) PickEm!
As Week 1 officially hits, D-Fly and Dixie are back with another episode commenting on the week that was and previewing the games ahead this weekend. This week’s guest is Loyola Greyhounds head coach, Charley Toomey, who will lead his No. 13-ranked Greyhounds in their season opener against No. 20 Richmond, coached by Dan Chemotti, a member of the Toomey coaching tree. Toomey and the guys discuss how Loyola has managed during the pandemic, preparation for Richmond, coaching against a member of the “family,” the Patriot League’s leadership in scheduling, creating a culture and identity (https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/loyola-the-identity-of-a-hound/57268) for your program, and the depth and experience of this Greyhounds team that is favored to win the Patriot League. After previewing the best of this weekend’s matchups, the fellas reluctantly talk about the greatness of Tom Brady and their favorite QBs to watch in the Give and Go segment. Oh, and there might have been an old man rant about the halftime show. Dix pretends to know all about pop music, despite having the Cobra Kai soundtrack memorized. Update: Since recording on Thursday evening, Johns Hopkins released its schedule and more information (https://hopkinssports.com/news/2021/2/11/schedule-testing-protocols-safety-measures-announced-for-mens-lacrosse.aspx) on the upcoming season.
DJ and Scott reflect on Super Bowl LV. They also look ahead to the NFL Draft and begin the discussion of how the quarterbacks will come off the board after Trevor Lawrence. The boys weigh in on the decision the Dallas Mavericks have made to not play the National Anthem before games. (Update: Since recording, the Mavericks and Mark Cuban have made statements addressing the situation.)
Anytime someone gets to make fun of Modesto, CA, you know they already won me over as I have family from two towns over in Stanislaus County. Creators, writers and stars of The Movie Show, Adam Dubowsky and Alex Stone took time out of their busy production schedule to talk to me about just how they got series off the ground and got it on SyFy with a virtually non-existent budget. Think part Crank Yankers, part Public Access and all around crazy, over the top funny. Official Synopsis: Taped deep in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world in Modesto, Calif., “The Movie Show” is hosted by polar opposites Deb and Wade (voiced by Adam Dubowsky and Alex Stone), both of whom have nothing in common other than their shared love of movies and that they’re puppets. Each week they’ll dish out hot takes on upcoming blockbusters, including “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Dune” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3,” as well as classic fan-favorites such as “Back to the Future,” “Jumanji” and “Apollo 13.” The show will feature exclusive deleted scenes and a star-studded line-up of interview guests, including Bruce the shark from “Jaws” and Stephen King’s laptop. Deb and Wade will also catch-up with everyone’s favorite movie stars of yesteryear, such as the T-Rex from “Jurassic Park,” Splinter from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and many more. Update: Since the time of our interview, The Movie Show, is moving to Wednesday nights 8:00 p.m. Pacific/11:00 p.m. Eastern. Paddy From Providence - 0:35 Hey boys, Patty from Providence. Hey was scrolling through the old Instagram the other day and right between Hannah Palmer and Jenna Frumes. You know who I'm talking about. So I saw a little post about the Hartford Harpooners. Look, Providence and Harford have a have a long standing rivalry as "New England's Second City", but I'd love to see some some more local rugby. Have you seeing any other random teams popping up here and there? I hope you had a good Thanksgiving and happy holidays. Talk to you soon. Who are the Hartford Harpooners? It appears (as of now), that they're simply a single player signing, a confirmed home stadium, and that's about it. *Update* - Since recording, The Hartford Harpooners have signed their SECOND player, High Performance Management founder (and player journeyman) Matt Hughston. Matt has a distinguished player career, Captaining the USA South Panthers in addition to earning caps from the Ohio Aviators, Nola Gold, Rugby United New York and Old Glory DC. If the signings keep coming, there might be something here in Hahhhhtfaaaahd. Many more players (most hailing from the Fairfield Yankees) have been signed over the past two weeks. Very excited about what the Hartford have coming in the future. They best thing they can do right now is provide as much meaningful game time as possible. Helping young players build a high light reel, and allowing them to gain more exposure against MLR academies will catapult their growth as rugby players. Cheers to the Harpooners, excited for what's to come in 2021! Paddy from Providence (again) - 4:15 Hey boys, Paddy, calling from Providence again. Sorry, I forgot to mention this on my last call last weekend was trying to watch the Ireland - Scotland Autumn Nations league, and then the England - France game and and couldn't find it anywhere. I think it's on something called flow rugby or some nonsense like that, which I don't have access to. So anyway ended up watching the Maori all black by the Moana Pasifika great match, little messy rugby, but overall a lot of passion that game and I love the hackers. So, uh, just wondering if there's any way we could watch some quality International Rugby and not sure if we can, but would love some tips on that. Thanks, and again happy holiday. Hope you have a good New Year. If you want Autumn nations (which quite frankly was insanely underwhelming this year), you gotta sign up for FloRugby and pay a monthly fee. Or you can be a leech and snag a username and password. We suggest the latter. Johnny's tip for Paddy: search YouTube for the game you're looking for 10-14 hours after the game is aired, find a pirated replay and watch it before it's taken down. Moana Pasifika vs. The Maori game was passionate and will be something that NZRU focus more on in the years to come. Who doesn't like dueling tribal war dances? Not to mention the filthy offloads and exciting brand of rugby. This week I’m chatting with Jenny Taylor. Jenny has had a long and unfair journey with her health and wellbeing. After seriously injuring her back and undergoing spinal surgery, Jenny finally thought her health woes were behind her. That feeling was short lived as this was just the beginning. Deep down Jenny knew something wasn’t right with her body. She was losing feeling in her limbs and it could no longer be put down to ‘back related pain’. After 9 months, a mountain of tests, doctors’ appointments and feeling like she was losing her mind, Jenny was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy or CIDP for short. CIDP is an incurable, rare neurological disorder that progressively gets worse over time. While grateful for the validation of her symptoms, this diagnosis was mind numbing. In this episode Jenny explains CIDP and we discuss her diagnosis and prognosis. We chat about starting a new job straight after the diagnosis and how she has dealt with her career ending well before it should. We discuss her early career, how childhood relationships influenced her workplace behaviours and Jenny gives some great tips for people pleasers. Jenny talks candidly about how she has planned for the inevitable decline in her health and how true friendships have helped her through some really dark days. Despite such adversity, Jenny remains upbeat with a goal of one day competing at the Paralympics. UPDATE: Since recording this podcast Jenny has been told that she is medically unable to fulfil her dream of being a Paralympian. Knowing Jenny, I’m sure she has her next goal already in the pipeline. If you’d like to know more about Jenny you can follow her on Instagram or LinkedIn. Jenny also has a Blog which details the start of her journey to now. In this episode of the podcast, Ayn sits down with Rin Heise to discuss a topic that has generated interest year after year at Hamline; AmeriCorps and specifically College Possible. Rin shares with us her journey from her first year on campus to her volunteer work post-graduation. August 2020 Update: Since recording her podcast episode, Rin has started and graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a Masters in Education in the Higher Education program. She lives in Boston, Massachusetts and is seeking positions at nearby colleges and universities related to student support/advising/affairs and administration. COVID-19 is forcing her to be flexible and look at Plan B and Plan C options. She is working on a TEFL certificate online to teach English online while job-searching. “Some advice I have for current students is to take care of themselves first and foremost, but be sure to be in touch with their professors. Hamline is a place where, in my experience, professors notice when you’re gone from class and appreciate hearing from you to know you’re ok. Do whatever you need to do to focus during your online classes- they still count! For graduating seniors, my advice is to celebrate your accomplishment- really, you deserve it! Then, look for work that can be completed virtually for the time being. While you’re looking, use LinkedIn Learning (or any online learning platform) to take some free classes to help you build skills to make you an even more attractive job candidate (in addition to your degree from a mighty fine university). What I’ve found helpful for my job search is to keep an updated spreadsheet of a diverse group of organizations along with contacts at each organization. These contacts were found via the alumni networks at Hamline, Harvard, and my AmeriCorps network (LinkedIn search). Use this time to build connections!” Want to connect with Rin? Find her on LinkedIn or send an email to kheise01@hamline.edu .

Devilishly good pancakes - by Susan NowakI KNOW, I know, and I’m sorry, right? Fourteen weeks you’ve stuck with this darn column and in all that time I’ve never featured a Belgian beer. For many, the greatest brewers on the planet; centuries of turning hops, malt and yeast into ambrosia that might carry on fermenting in darkened cellars for years to become the equivalent of a vintage champagne or brandy. Brewers who know more than brain surgeons, create richer notes than a Stradivarius, greater poetry than Shakespeare, but are they good enough for Ms Nowak? The woman’s a philistine. Happily, I can put that right with just one little word. Duvel. See? I’m forgiven. And during Lockdown uncapping those dumpy little bottles has released a genii rather than the ‘devil’ for whom it’s named – apparently for no more sinister reason than that when it was created around 120 years ago one of its delighted alchemists yelled: “Wow, this is devilishly good.” Though at 8.5 per cent this smooth talking charmer, teasing the tongue with cloves, pepper and spice, could seduce an innocent. This classic golden ale was first made at Moortgat brewery in the 1870s, something like 120 years before we coined the term here. It wasn’t until 2007 it gained a sibling, Duvel Tripel Hop, at 9.5 per cent even stronger than big brother. However, the Tripel does not refer to its strength but to the fact that it contains three hops: Saaz-Saaz, Styrian Golding and one other that changes every year. In 2016 that third hop was Citra grown in Yakima Valley, Washington, bringing hints of grapefruit and tropical fruit to the party; it quickly became clear that Citra was the ultimate tripel hop so Duvel Tripel Hop Citra is now permanently in the range. Beer improves every sort of batter from Yorkshire pudding to fish ‘n’ chips, and here the original Duvel lightens some rather posh pancakes made with both wholemeal and plain flour, wrapped round smoked salmon and asparagus. That legendary ‘beer hunter’ the late Michael Jackson, who was passionate about Belgium’s beer culture, called Duvel “the world’s most beguiling beer” - so I’ve served it in his glass.Devilishly good pancakes (makes around half a dozen)20g each of plain and wholemeal flour; a grind of black pepper, grating of nutmeg, pinch of mixed spice (to echo the beer’s spiciness), and half a teaspoon of salt. One large egg, 100ml buttermilk (or ordinary milk), 200ml Duvel, around 200g sliced smoked salmon, 8-10 trimmed asparagus spears, small tub crème fraiche, lard and butter for frying; red salad leaves and sliced lemon to garnish.Put flour and flavourings into a mixing bowl then add the egg, buttermilk and Duvel, stirring to create a pancake batter. Leave to chill for at least an hour - you may find the batter slightly too thicken by then, if so add a drop more Duvel. Whilst the batter is chilling parboil the asparagus then drain. Heat a smallish frying pan (around 25cm diameter), add a knob of lard, heat until melted, then the same amount of butter, and let that melt until it is quite hot (though be careful not to burn the butter). Put 2 tbsps pancake mix into a cup, then pour into the frying pan to cover the base; cook until it starts to bubble then flip over. When the pancake is golden brown on both sides transfer to a plate and keep warm in a very low oven. Repeat until all the mixture is used up. Spread a dollop of crème fraiche across each pancake and top with a slice of smoked salmon. To create a little variety roll up half the pancakes with asparagus poking out of both ends and fold the others in half; serve on warm plates with remaining asparagus spears scattered on top, and garnish with a dollop of crème fraiche, red salad leaves and lemon slices.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/pubspintspeople.
