Young allegedly got naked on a boat, argued with a 59-year-old man, punched him, and later threw a deep freezer at him, causing a head injury and knocking him into the lake. Deputies found Young hiding under a bed on his houseboat after he ignored their attempts to contact him. He was charged with six offenses, including aggravated assault, and released on bond on July 6. STORY 5: Robert Michener named Gateway85 CID's interim executive director The Gateway85 Community Improvement District (CID) appointed longtime employee Robert Michener as interim executive director following Emory Morsberger's resignation after nearly 20 years of involvement. It's back to the future as we welcome back to the podcast our very first guest, Al Kennedy from House to Astonish. The original plan was to discuss one of Al's Mastermind subjects, the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (and DC's Who's Who), but we only got there after a meandering bit of chat about a variety of subjects, including wrestlers from the 2010s and their current identities (no kayfabe breaking here). But we do a deep dive on the original 1980s version of the Handbook, how DC's approach to Who's Who differed, Marvel's readjustment with the Deluxe Handbook, the art in both books and more. Amazingly, we didn't mention the three-ring binder era of Who's Who or DC doing a spinoff Who's Who for Star Trek (which DC was publishing at the time). There's also some dicussion on some current books we are enjoying, including work by past guests Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) and Al Ewing (the gone too soon Metamorpho, with Steve Lieber). There's also reminiscing about late 90s comics, including John Ostrander and Pascual Ferry's Heroes for Hire and Starman. Sadly, no Swingers talk, although I had it in my notes. Shame on me. There's also some sci-fi media talk, but nothing on Doctor Who (I stopped watching after Capaldi left). Since Al and Paul O'Brien do a Thunderbolts podcast, we obliquely discuss the new movie, the Fabian Nicieza era of the book and rehabilitating of super villains, how the pod with deal with the “fight club” era of the book and more. Al also discusses some of his other projects, including his Terry Pratchett podcast Desert Island Discworld and some shout-out for our pals Joe and Todd at Longbox Heroes.

Jace and Rocky break down a big week of DC Comics for April 23, 2025. We get the second chapter of Hush 2, Power Girl comes to an end and a new arc starts for The Flash. We have two wildly different Green Lantern stories with one full of surprises and action packed and the other trying to find it's footing. Green Arrow continues to be an excellent mix of crime noir and relevant social issues which calls back to a classic era for the Emerald Archer. Metamorpho is wildly fun and engaging with Peacemaker and Harley Quinn close behind. Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Martian Manhunter represent versions of the characters that are closest and furthest away from their main universe counterparts respectively, but both are a joy to experince both visually and narritively. Finally we have two Superman titles that showcase the Man of Steel in two very different stories that are both excellent. One feels like it harkens back to the classic stories of yesteryear and the other is very contemporary, but feels like it will be the classic of tomorrow. Rex Mason seems to have it all. He has a well-paying job at Stagg industries. The boss's daughter, Sapphire, is his fiancée. He is even friends with a Green Lantern, John Stewart, where they spent time together in the Marine Corps. But it all comes apart in a literal train wreck. Rex's boss Simon Stagg, along with his pre-historic henchman Java, are up to no good. Stagg is trying to create the perfect worker who can survive in any environment. The project is called Metamorpho, but the issue is he needs a test subject to prove that his idea works before he can sell it. After the train wreck John fills Rex in on Stagg's illegal activities. Rex and Sapphire make their relationship know to Simon. Rex quits and says they are moving to Chicago. This seals the deal. Simon thinks Rex is not good enough for his daughter and now has a test subject. He sets a trap that Rex walks into, and the experiment begins. It transforms him into Metamorpho. Simon frames John to make Rex think John is after Sapphire. A battle between Metamorpho and the League ensues, and Rex has the upper hand. Thankfully Sapphire can slap some sense into Rex, and he goes after Simon. But as Rex is stopping Simon, the experiment goes off the rails. A giant Metamorpho like monster is created and it has part of Simon's mind in it. The League is having no luck in defeating it, even with Metamorpho's help. Batman has found a way to stop it, but it means Metamorpho must sacrifice himself to do it. His love for Sapphire, who is the captive of the monster, gives Rex no choice. He changes himself into the formula and takes down the monster. Jace and Rocky chat about the DC Comics titles for the final week of 2024. It is a huge week with 17 titles hitting the stands but it is a bit underwhelming as we get the third issue of Gargoyle of Gotham with the book losing momentum because of such a long dealy between issues. The final issue of Batman Brave and the Bold is also a bit of a let down with a lack of memorable stories and Powergirl also continues to disappoint. On the other hand the debut of Metamorpho is very strong and the Phantom Zone story in Action Comics comes to a very satisfying conclusion. Justive League Unlimited also continues to be a must-read.
