For the Glory KC is back with the 179th episode of the show! Before we get to the podcast, the KC Soccer Journal is having a free event at the Indian Creek Library in Olathe. Tickets are free and you can get them here!Sporting Kansas City went from one of their worst performances ever to an incredible bounce-back week. After losing to the Portland Timbers last weekend by an abysmal 6-0 scoreline, Sporting KC put together back-to-back MLS wins for the first time since the summer of 2024! First, they hosted the LA Galaxy and beat them 3-1 in a relatively dominant performance. Sheena was in attendance for the first time this season, so clearly, she and her friends are good luck. Or was it the atrocious media game I played in? Either way, the Galaxy are, for one reason or another, terrible against SKC. That was the second time they've played and at the time SKC's 2nd win of the season. We talk through all the events around the game, the media game and of course, the main event of Sporting KC putting up three for the first time this year and winning at home for the first time this year. Then, KC did the unlikely and won again three days later on the road against Austin FC. They were the better team for most of the game. Despite going down late in the first half, they fought back to tie and eventually win the game and break Austin's verde hearts. Overall, four players scored their first goal of the season this week. Sporting KC had their first comeback win of the season. And things generally went really well over that jam-packed week.Sheena and I also had to discuss the Sporting KC salary release from this week, including all the new player wages and salary changes. I also had to knock down some of those rants from folks I respect around the team when it came to how low the payroll is. The KC Current had an amazing couple of weeks too, with two, 3-0 wins. First over a pretty awful Chicago Stars team that had somehow managed to beat KC once and then against a Houston Dash side that made a series of gaffs early to let KC run away with things. In the process Temwa Chawinga went from zero goals to five in two games and moved into second in the Golden Boot race. Watch out Barbara Banda! In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:SKC II resultsMLS Next Pro schedule changesUS Soccer's new competition between NWSL, USL SL and WPSL ProHere is a rundown of sections and start times:Intro - 0:00Sporting KC - 1:24KC Current - 1:27:04Digital Crawl - 1:34:24Upcoming GamesKC Current @ Angel City FC - WED, May 20th at 9:00PM CSTSKC II vs. Austin FC II - FRI, May 22nd at 7:00PMSporting KC vs. NY Red Bulls - SAT, May 23rd at 7:30PM KC Current vs. Portland Thorns - SUN, May 24th at Noon As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled.com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Guys, as if you need me to tell you, we are deep in the heart of the Spring Classics. My favourite races…hell, EVERYONE'S favourite races. I've got myself across to the motherland, in amongst it in Belgium, to soak it all in. I want to take you with me on the road and show you why these races are so special. This week is bigger than any one race - it's a part of the culture here in Belgium, and it's woven into their very DNA. Even people who don't ride get out there at the roadside and watch the classics race by. I want to peel back the layers and bring you along for the ride in a way that makes you think “Holy shit I have to get out there next year”. I've been putting this episode together since I arrived last weekend, just in time for Gent Wevelgem or, as it's now called, In Flanders Fields - From Middlekerke to Wevelgem, and hitting record to capture all sorts of rider interviews, roadside atmosphere, across the whole week through Waregem until the big one; De Ronde Van Vlaanderen. I spoke to some really important characters in the Spring Classic story -both old and new - across my week at the races. Young, up and coming talent like Laurence Pithie and Bob Donaldson, Belgian hero Dries de Bondt, and legends from generations gone by like Sep Vanmarcke and Luke Rowe. Not just the riders, there's an amazing cross section of fans from Belgian and beyond who have travelled out to the hallowed ground of Flanders to embrace it all. From Wevelgem to Waregem, the Kemmelberg to the Kwaremont; this episode covers a lot of ground. Just like the Tour of Flanders itself, we twist and turn all over Belgium - covering bergs shoulder to shoulder with the classics riders who make these races so special. Make no mistake, these races are hard. They're aggressive, chaotic, fast - they chew you up and spit you out. But, as a professional rider, I loved being a part of it. The noise of the crowd, the smell of the beer, and the passion of the Belgian fans right there on the roadside are something I'll never forget. I had to get in amongst it and see if it lived up to the hype. I'll tell you right now, it far exceeded it. Crack yourself a Belgian beer - be it a light pilsner, a sturdy blonde, a dark dubbel, or the full tripel - make sure you pour it into the correct glass, and enjoy this Classics episode. 1. “Blue City Chaos” and Crime Policies Discussion of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about crime in major U.S. cities. The claim: 18 of the 20 most crime-ridden cities are run by Democrats. Criticism of “Soros-backed” district attorneys and “soft-on-crime” policies, particularly around bail reform, downgrading felonies, and early release of offenders. Examples cited: Alvin Bragg (New York), Deborah Gonzalez (Georgia), John Chisholm (Wisconsin). The narrative: Progressive criminal justice reforms are increasing violent crime. Senator Cruz promotes his proposed Clean DC Act, aiming to reverse DC’s 2022 crime laws. Argues that defunding police and reducing penalties have worsened crime. Mentions that Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in DC reduced murder rates by 58%. The conversation portrays Democrats as anti-police and Republicans as restoring safety. 3. Government Shutdown Debate Discussion shifts to the federal government shutdown, framing Democrats as the cause. The senator claims Republicans voted repeatedly to reopen the government with a “clean CR (continuing resolution).” Blames Chuck Schumer and the far left for the stalemate, asserting they demand “health care for illegal immigrants.” References CBS polling data showing low Democratic favorability, with top public perceptions being “weak” and “extreme.” 3. Judge Sentencing & Brett Kavanaugh Assassination Attempt Strong reaction to the sentencing of Nicholas Roske, who plotted to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The judge, Deborah Boardman (a Biden appointee), is accused of issuing a lenient 8-year sentence (instead of 30) allegedly because the defendant was transgender. The conversation characterizes this as leftist judicial bias and calls for her impeachment. Senator Cruz says this demonstrates dangerous partisanship and failure to protect the rule of law.
