Football is over. And the Kansas City Chiefs turn heel after their Super Bowl win over the Eagles. Mike has flipped on the Chiefs, and declares the Bengals/Chiefs rivalry an angry one from now on. Prior to that, the guys discuss the city of Philadelphia having some of the worst luck in Championship games and the Rihanna Super Bowl Halftime Show.  The fellas talk NBA Trade Deadline, and a GOAT debate breaks out when the guys talk about LeBron breaking the scoring record. And of course that leads to an argument over what KD would have done to teams from the 90s. The show shifts to baseball to talk about the new rules in the MLB and for Mike and Scott to geek out over the World Baseball Classic coming up. Finally…Tiger is coming back. But is he back? Play Episode Listen Later Jan 30, 2023 162:41

Hour 1: Boomer is broadcasting from a radio station in Kansas City. We started with Bengals/Chiefs and how the officials really were a big part of the game and they shouldn't be. Gio also can't believe the Bengals punted the ball right down the middle of the field with no hang time, giving the Chiefs a great return. And of course, the biggest point of the game was the late hit on the Bengals as Patrick Mahomes was going out of bounds with 8 seconds left in the game. It set them up for an easier FG, which they hit to win it. Gio is furious with the call and Boomer said they've been calling it that way all season. Boomer does not think it was a bad call by the officials. It was consistent with the way they have been calling it all season long. Gio also didn't think that the Eagles got lucky by knocking Purdy out of the game. That's how their defense played all season, they get after the QB. Jerry starts with the game winning FG in Kansas City. Travis Kelce tells the Cincinnati mayor ‘know your role and shut your mouth, you jabroni'. Joseph Ossai, who committed the late hit penalty, spoke after the game and said he has to do better. The 49'ers had QB problems all day as Brock Purdy went out early, then Josh Johsnon came in and went out with a concussion. They pretty much had to run the ball from that point on. Jalen Hurts isn't celebrating yet, he still has to win the Super Bowl. Where was the expedited replay on the DeVonta Smith catch? In the final segment of the hour, Quinnen Williams tweeted and deleted, ‘Now Bosa know what I'm going through, no offense'. Kayvon Thibodeaux also tweeted ‘way this game look we might be better than the 49'ers'.   Hour 2: We talked about the AFC Championship game and how it unfolded with great catches by the Bengals and bad calls by the refs. The Chiefs were the 31st worst pass defense coming into the game. Kansas City controlled the game defensively in the first half. Chris Jones of the Chiefs had a great game. A caller and Gio both think the Chiefs overly celebrated that win because it was the Bengals. Jerry returns for an update but first, Gio went to the Islanders game Friday night with Sal and he got to talk to Steve Cohen. Gio used Sydney Esiason to talk to Steve Cohen. Sal Licata wore an Islanders jersey and Boomer calls him a fraud. Jerry starts with the Bengals radio call of the roughing the passer with 8 seconds to play. We also heard from Eagles radio when they were 15 minutes away from the Super Bowl. Brock Purdy talked about his injury and what it felt like. In the final segment of the hour, a caller says the person in charge of lighting the Empire State Building is from Philadelphia.  Hour 3: Before this segment, Boomer FaceTimed us to show us the free snacks available at Audacy in Kansas City. We also talked about Boomer's layered look in the pre-game. Nick Bosa was yelling at fans yelling at him in Philadelphia. Aaron Rodgers to the Jets still continues to be a thing, but Boomer said if he comes here he has to be all in, and the AFC is loaded with great young quarterbacks. Jerry returns for an update and starts with sound from the Chiefs win over the Bengals. Travis Kelce to the Cincinnati Mayor, ‘know your role and shut your mouth you jabroni'. Joe Burrow still feels great about the Bengals. Nick Sirianni talked about the defense making the QBs feel uncomfortable, but he wasn't trying to injure anyone. Gio wonders why we didn't see Brock Purdy even try to throw downfield. This starts a big discussion of the narps vs Boomer on whether Purdy truly gave an effort. In the final segment of the hour, a caller is critical of Tony Romo's broadcasting.  Hour 4: Gio wanted an epic Championship Sunday but he did not. The injury to Brock Purdy ruined game 1, and the refs kind of ruined Bengals/Chiefs. We get a quick update on Eddie the picks jockey's trip to the dentist (Al provided the quick update). We talked more about the refs inserting themselves into the Bengals/Chiefs game. Jerry returns for an update but first Steve Spector, the Brand Manager out in Kansas City, said the free food in the break room is not actually free. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the FG from the Chiefs win to send them to the Super Bowl. Travis Kelce has wise words for the Cincinnati Mayor ‘know your role and shut your mouth, jabroni'. Jalen Hurts is trying to enjoy the moment but the job isn't done yet. In the final segment of the show, Gio talked about seeing Steve Cohen at the Islanders game on Friday.

They are followed by Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle, who remembers her friend and the writer and editor, Gwen Knapp, who passed away last week at age 61. In this podcast, Jhabvala and Jones discuss how they would approach covering Niners-Eagles and Bengals-Chiefs; the challenges of covering postseason games if you are a beat person from another market; how to differentiate your stories at a Super Bowl; what they want from an NFL analyst and play by play; an update on the possible sale of the Commanders; the best sites for NFL statistics; what they would you say to fans who love the NFL but also hate certain aspects of the game and more. Slusser discusses what made Knapp such a unique and nuanced writer; Knapp's career as a columnist and writer in Philadelphia and San Francisco; her being one of the first sports journalists to raise doubts about the validity of Lance Armstrong's performances; her brilliant July 4, 1993 piece after the Phillies completed a doubleheader at 4:40 in the morning; why she move to the editing desk at the New York Times; the outpouring of love for her and some of the pieces that were written on her this week, and more. Charles Robinson and Frank Schwab recap a weekend of NFL divisional round playoff games that saw the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles steamroll the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants on their way to championship weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers earned hard-fought victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys.2:09 - The 49ers rolled to yet another consecutive victory, this time over the Cowboys. QB Brock Purdy showed he's able to improvise, and this team, led by Coach of the Year candidate Kyle Shanahan, is beginning to look unstoppable. Things are more complicated for the Cowboys, however, who have to navigate a murky offseason and try to accumulate more talent around Dak Prescott, specifically at the wide receiver position.18:25 - The Bengals looked dominant in their victory over the one-time Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills. The snow seemed to only affect the Bills as the Bengals run game got going despite a banged up offensive line. The Bills look to make another run next year despite QB Josh Allen's cap hit nearly doubling.32:30 - QB Jalen Hurts looked entirely recovered from his shoulder injury as the Eagles defeated the Giants. The Giants should feel great about the season they had and their future going forward under Head Coach Brian Daboll. The Eagles look like they're just getting started, as they have now won 15 of their 16 games with Hurts at quarterback this season.41:44 - QB Patrick Mahomes looks to have suffered a high ankle sprain as Kansas City defeated Jacksonville. Early indications are that he could play this weekend, but he will almost certainly be less than 100%. Jacksonville should be proud of the season they've had under Head Coach Doug Pederson, and can look forward to welcoming star WR Calvin Ridley next year.55:15 - Charles and Frank give their initial thoughts on the upcoming conference championship games this weekend: 49ers @ Eagles and Bengals @ Chiefs. Please support Terez Paylor's legacy:• Buy an All-Juice Team hoodie or tee from BreakingT.com/Terez.
