Composer Chris Benstead talks about being Guy Ritchies' musical maestro on multiple projects, including THE GENTLEMEN on Netflix and THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE. How his musical education led him into music mixing and eventually working in the “sound” departments on major projects, before his work with Patrick Doyle, Steven Price, Alan Menken and Hans Zimmer brought him back into the “composer” role for Guy Ritchie. Why Guy sometimes asks him to be “braver” with a cue, and how to delegate (aka “let go”) of certain parts of the music composition process that you're good at. Interview by Kenny Holmes and Matt Schrader.

With interest rates at super lows, and $15 Trillion in negative interest rates, to create profits in the credit marketplace has become exceptionally challenging. Guy discusses Shelton's strategy, resulting from his thirty plus years of experience in the credit marketplace, and how they seek to generate profits today. With many investors' asset allocation to fixed income being 20% plus of their total allocation, this is an important aspect of their investment strategy. We hope it is helpful.

This is the 3rd episode of Listen to the Editors, a series of interviews with journal editors to unveil the trends in research for Operations and Supply Chain Management. In this episode, we are interviewing Cristina Thomsen Gimenez, co-editor in chief for the International Journal of Operations and Production Management (IJOPM). He shares this role with Constantin Blome and Tobias Schoenherr. Professor Gimenez is Professor, Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences in ESADE Business School. She also serves as the Director of Identity and Mission for ESADE. The host for this show is Iuri Gavronski, Associate Professor for the Graduate Program in Business for the UNISINOS Jesuit University. *** We discuss the editorial process for the IJOPM. We also understand the reasons for 70% desk rejection rates at the journal. This is part of the new editorial strategy: having a more stringent process in the desk review and passing on to reviewers only papers with higher chance of publication. Once a paper passes this first round, the rejection rate drops to 30-40%. According to professor Gimenez, alignment with the mission, methods alien to the readers, and contribution, are the main reasons for desk rejection. She suggests three questions to test contribution: 1) What do we know about this topic? 2) What we don’t know about this topic that this particular paper covers? 3) Why do we need to know this new information? As for KPIs, the editorial team evaluates yearly impact factors. In the short term, they evaluate citations, downloads, submissions, and quality of submissions. The journal had 600,000 downloads and 9,700 citations in 2018. There was also an auction - raising over £1k for two charities (we're still collecting the money as we speak) - Brentford Community Trust and CALM - the campaign against living miserably fighting male depression with prized very kindly donated by Brentford Football Club, The Globe and Fullers'. When Bradd, a prominent member of the Delta Delta Delta fraternity is found dead and listing starboard, fellow fraternity member Tripp Vanderbilt (Caroline Benstead) looks for answers. Was it the sorority next door of literal sisters? The demon god Isalostus? MOST IMPORTANTLY, this episode focuses on Sampson the cat.
We sit down in our million dollar kitchen and discuss smoothies with Chef Caroline Benstead.
In this episode of Strategic Investor Radio, host Charlie Wright interviews Guy Benstead of Cedar Ridge Partners, a Registered Investment Advisor (“RIA”) based in Greenwich, Connecticut. “We’re bond guys,” says Mr. Benstead, in reference to his firm. Cedar Ridge specializes in unconstrained credit strategies. It operates private funds, separately managed accounts (“SMAs”), and one alternative mutual fund: the Cedar Ridge Unconstrained Credit Fund (MUTF:CRUMX) that make investment decisions based on the firm’s top-down macroeconomic analysis combined with its “deep dive credit work” on individual securities. If Cedar Ridge’s funds were long only, then much of this in-depth research would be for naught, since research can turn up bad bonds just as easily as good ones. Therefore, Cedar Ridge’s funds operate with a long/short mandate, and with positions spread across about 100 securities, or so. Benstead points out, however, that this doesn’t mean the funds own bonds from up to 100 different issuers – the positions include several bonds from some of the same issuers (at different maturities). The funds’ long portfolios consist primarily of corporate and municipal bonds, along with preferred stock. Their short portfolios are made up of corporate bonds thought to be “overpriced,” along with a “core Treasury ballast” to hedge against interest-rate sensitivity. One thing that separates the Cedar Ridge long/short credit funds with others in the space is that Cedar Ridge doesn’t use derivatives. Benstead says that Cedar Ridge tends to own the same securities as typical bond investors, but the firm operates like a great chef, arranging the ingredients in a different way.

The George Washington University's Marc Lynch, director of the Project on Middle East Political Science, speaks with Lindsay Benstead, assistant professor of political science at Portland State University's School of Government. Her working book project, Legislative Connections: Why Diverse Patterns of Parliamentary Clientelism Stabilize Authoritarian Governance in Arab North Africa, examines the relationship between regime type and the structure of patron-client relationships. Benstead also examines gender-related dimensions of electoral politics, public opinion, and survey methodology in the Middle East. Lynch and Benstead discuss elections in Tunisia and Algeria, and a recent public opinion survey she collaborated on in Tunisia.
