Play Episode Listen Later Sep 10, 2025 53:45

For centuries, Urdu has been part of a shared cultural space, shaped by people from diverse communities and traditions. Yet this fact is often forgotten or pushed aside. That's why the new anthology Whose Urdu Is It Anyway? feels so important. Edited and translated into English by writer, literary historian, and translator Dr. Rakhshanda Jalil, the book brings together 16 Urdu short stories written by non-Muslim writers. The collection features powerful voices such as Krishan Chander, Rajinder Singh Bedi, Kanhaiya Lal Kapoor, and Gulzar, among others. Together, their stories challenge the stereotype that Urdu belongs to a single identity, reminding us instead that it has always been a language of many, reflecting universal themes of love, loss, displacement, and belonging. Instead, he was trafficked to Myanmar, imprisoned in a scam centre, and forced to commit online fraud under the threat of violence. An estimated 100,000 people fell victim to these operations run by Chinese crime groups. Jalil endured seven months of beatings and abuse before finally finding a way out. He eventually had to pay for his own flight back home and was fined 1,500 Thai Baht for overstaying his visa, which is approximately 44 dollars - a small price to pay to be swiftly reunited with his family in Uganda. But thousands are still stuck in Myanmar today, with many African governments unwilling to pay to bring their citizens home. Going from zero to $1M in annual recurring revenue is worth celebrating, but it's no guarantee that your startup is on a path to success. How long did it take to reach this milestone? How much did you spend to acquire each customer, and how many have renewed or extended their contracts? When it comes to sales, repeatability equals success. To learn more about the tactics startups use to reach $1 million ARR (and beyond) I interviewed Rehan Jalil, CEO of Securiti. Drawing from his experience as a three-time founder, we talked about setting up an initial sales motion, understanding and validating the problem you're solving, focusing on a specific audience to hone your value proposition, and building trust with early customers. Episode breakdown: “Before we even get to the revenue, it actually is important to understand what problem you're trying to solve.” [2:10] “The only metric is repeatability.” [4:55] “So we coined the term ‘privacy ops'… we wrote a book on it.” [7:35] “Teams have to be very much in sync, which means information has to flow.” [10:39] “By the time you get to MVP, you better have refined this thing. [12:40] “Before you bring in sales teams, it's important that you actually have the content for them.” [15:34] “The bar is very high within the enterprise, and it takes much longer.” [18:29] “If you don't start with conviction, don't do it.” [21:41] “Find people who have a common interest on the problem that you're trying to solve.” [26:08] “If they feel like you helped them… they can actually be advocates.” [28:14] “Just putting things freemium out there doesn't mean people are going to adopt it.” [30:41] “Prioritize finding a viable use case and viable product strategy vs. rushing into something.” [32:36] Thanks for listening! In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, where does the balance lie between harnessing the power of generative AI and ensuring the security and privacy of enterprise data? This pivotal question sets the stage for our insightful discussion with Rehan Jalil, CEO and President at Securiti.ai, a trailblazer in the realm of data security and privacy in the generative AI era. Is your enterprise ready to navigate the complexities of generative AI without compromising data security and privacy? Join me as I delve into the heart of this critical issue with Rehan Jalil. With a distinguished career at the helm of Securiti, Jalil brings a wealth of knowledge on the innovative strategies and technologies needed to safeguard sensitive information in a world increasingly driven by AI. From the pioneering Data Command Center that Securiti has developed, enabling the safe use of data across hybrid multicloud environments, to the nuanced challenges of data governance, our discussion spans the spectrum of securing enterprise data against the backdrop of generative AI advancements. We explore the myriad risks that accompany the generative AI era, such as privacy concerns, the generation of biased or inappropriate content, and the potential misuse of AI-generated materials. Jalil emphasizes the importance of governing sensitive data with robust policies, encryption, and a keen focus on data retention and deletion practices. Mitigating these risks requires cutting-edge techniques like differential privacy, synthetic data generation, and federated learning, all aimed at protecting data while fostering the responsible adoption of generative AI technologies. Jalil advocates for a collaborative implementation approach, highlighting the critical role of cross-functional teams in developing comprehensive data security policies and fostering a culture of continuous education on AI ethics and data privacy. As we navigate the conversation, Jalil underscores the need for a balanced approach to generative AI adoption, one that ensures benefits are harnessed without sacrificing control over data and privacy. He sheds light on the evolving landscape of risks and regulations, stressing the importance of adapting policies accordingly and promoting a culture of data responsibility and ethical AI practices. In a world where generative AI presents both immense opportunities and significant challenges, organizations must stay vigilant, embracing innovative solutions and collaborative strategies to ensure the secure and responsible use of AI technologies. Through the lens of Securiti's achievements and the insightful perspectives of Rehan Jalil, this episode offers a deep dive into securing enterprise data in the generative AI era. As we ponder the future of AI in enterprise security and privacy, we invite you to reflect on how your organization is preparing for these challenges. How are you balancing the potential of generative AI with the imperative of data security? Share your thoughts and join the conversation on responsible AI adoption.
