Welcome to the Part Time Pilot Audio Ground School Podcast! This podcast is going to be all about providing student pilots with ANOTHER way that they can consume the Private Pilot curriculum. The #1 reason student pilots never end up becoming a private pilot is NOT due to money. The real reason is actually deeper than that. Yes, flight training is expensive. But every student pilot knows this and budgets for it when they decide to do it. The actual #1 reason a student pilot fails is because they do not have a good, fundamental understanding of the private pilot knowledge they are meant to learn in ground school. You see when a student does not have a good grasp of this knowledge they get to a point in their flight training where their mind just can't keep up. They start making mistakes and having to redo lessons. And THAT is when it starts getting too expensive. This audio ground school is meant for the modern day student pilot... aka the part time student pilot. Let's face it, the majority of us have full time responsibilities on top of flight training. Whether it is a job, kids, family, school, etc. we all keep ourselves busy with the things that are important to us. And with today's economy we have to maintain that job just to pay for the training. The modern day student pilot is busy, on the go and always trying to find time throughout his or her day to stay up on their studies. The audio ground school allows them to consume high quality content while walking, running, working out, sitting in traffic, traveling, or even just a break from the boring FAR/AIM or ground school lecture. Did I meant high quality content? The audio ground school is taken straight out of the 5-star rated Part Time Pilot Online Ground School that has had over 350 students take and pass their Private Pilot exams without a SINGLE STUDENT FAILING. We do this by keeping ground school engaging, fun, light and consumable. We have written lessons, videos, audio lessons, live video lessons, community chats, quizzes, practice tests, flash cards, study guides, eBooks and much more. Part Time Pilot was created to be a breath of fresh air for student pilots. To be that flight training provider that looks out for them and their needs. So that is just what we are doing with this podcast. Episode 95: In this episode, we sit down with Bob Tewksbury! Bob is a former MLB All Star Pitcher with over 100 career wins! Because his peak was so short, Al Lopez is often overlooked when we think about the great sluggers of the 1950s. But no one could ignore his incredible season in 1953 when, 70 years ago this week, he became just the second player to be unanimously voted AL MVP. Mike and Bill look back at Rosen's short on-field career, surprising impact on the game in the '70s and '80s, and the antisemitism he beat back to make all of it happen. Show NotesToday's Discussion Points: Risk v Reward and Durability Thread from StrengthCoach.com - Is strength training for performance the same as strength training for durability? Is it possible to be more durable but less explosive, or does higher strength/power in most situations translate to reduced injury risk? And on the flip side - is it possible to actually gain performance, but increase risk of injury? What might be an example of that?- The Risk vs. Reward Whiteboard Photo- Survivorship bias- Goldilocks training - Certified Functional Strength Coach- Only 20% of people need “specialized” training. Former Major League All-Star Pitcher turned Mental Coach and Author, Bob Tewksbury, joins Pro Mindset Podcast host Craig Domann to discuss about self-talk and imagery. Tewksbury played 13 seasons in the MLB with six teams (Yankees, Cubs, Cardinals, Rangers, Padres and Twins) and as a pitcher won 110 games during his career. He was an All-Star and also third in the Cy Young voting in 1992.After earning his Masters in Sports Psychology and Counseling from Boston University, Tewksbury has had stints working as a mental coach for the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs. Bob authored a book in 2018 titled: Ninety Percent Mental: All-Star pitcher turned mental skills coach reveals the hidden side of the game.On this podcast, Tewksbury and Domann discuss two major topics in mental coaching, specifically, self-talk (“the little man”) and imagery (visualization & movies).Tewksbury shares he began utilizing imagery in high school and recounts using imagery going into spring training for the 1986 season. Naturally he wanted to make the Yankees big league roster from the jump. He followed the practices learned in Norman Vincent Peale’s book: Power of Positive Thinking. Peale stated, “If you can see it and believe it, you can achieve it.” Tewksbury used such imagery before he went to spring training in 1986 and imagined himself walking into manager Lou Pinella’s office and having him tell him that he made the MLB roster.Tewksbury created this image so powerful that he would literally cry every night before he pitched in spring training that year. He would go out on the beach with his Walkman, listen to music, and imagine himself pitching against the next day's team on the beach. It worked because he pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings during spring training and didn't give up a run. With a week left in camp, the clubhouse guy came over and tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Hey, Lou wants to see you.” Tewksbury describes walking across the big NY logo in the middle of the locker room and literally “walking into his dream.”
Bob Tewksbury, formal All-Star Pitcher, mental skills coach, and author, joins the e2e podcast to talk about mental focus during stressful situations. Despite two arm surgeries and several demotions back to the minors, he persevered going on to win 110 games and make an All-Star team. After retiring from baseball, he returned to college to complete my bachelors degree, and three years later completed my masters degree from BU. Joined today by former MLB all-star and 14-year veteran, Bob Tewksbury. Bob and I talk about me waking him up at 5am on accident on the day of the interview. We hear about him being drafted by my NYY and refusing to live in the big apple. We then talk about his book "Ninety Percent Mental: An All-Star Player Turned Mental Skills Coach Reveals the Hidden Game of Baseball" and how relevant it is in today’s game. Bob tells me what he’s doing now with the Cubs, how he approaches the superstars of the game and why mental wellbeing is so important in baseball. He shares what it was like dealing with the mental difficulties of being a pitcher, being on 6 different teams and how golfers, kickers and other sports are realizing the importance of being mentally realistic and strong. I ask bob if he would make it in today’s game or even given the chance to make it, his answer is surprising. From baseball movies to why Wrigley is so special and more. Today om The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Bob Tewksbury, Author of Ninety Percent Mental. Bob Tewksbury is a former Major League pitcher and All-Star who excelled on the mound in part because of his mental acuity and resiliency. “He was one of the most thoughtful players I ever managed, approaching the craft of pitching like an artist,” says Hall of Famer and four-time World Series Champion manager Joe Torre. After retiring as a player and working briefly as a broadcast analyst and player development consultant, Tewksbury signed on with the Boston Red Sox after the 2004 season to be their mental skills coach. He was with the organization for 11 years – in 2013 he was on the staff of the World Series championship team – and is currently the mental skills coach for the San Francisco Giants, where he works with players at each level in the organization. In Ninety Percent Mental (March 20, 2018; Da Capo Press), Tewksbury draws on his perspective as a thinking-fan's player and his expertise as a “baseball whisperer” for an inside look at the psychological side of the game and how a well-disciplined mind can provide a definitive edge. In professional baseball, what separates those who succeed from those who don't live up to their potential is a sharp mental game both in preparation and in the heat of the moment.

With the Cubs off to a good start, the guys break down how it's happened despite some very unimpressive offensive stats (other than Dexter Fowler). Taking pitches has definitely helped, but pretty amazing to be off to this kind of start when so many players are around the Mendoza line. The Cardinals are coming! Wouldn't anyone in their right mind want the Cubs roster over the Cardinals roster? The guys discuss. Also, Javy Baez is back on the team and they discuss the benefits of having him vs trading him.For 60 Seconds with a former Cub, Joel drops some serious A-material on Bob Tewksbury and the guys can't stop laughing.
