Will Rolph (left), together with brother Harry, produce Two Fields olive oil from a small farm in Greece. Olive oil farming was something they both unexpectedly fell into, and it's a great story of love, learning, reconnecting to nature and the value of taking things slowly. Both Will and Harry have found profound meaning in the simple olive, and the act of producing their small batch olive oil has transformed both their lives in significant ways.

Episode 93 of Ready Set Revue is all about Scream 6, and a little bit about AMC's weird tiered seating pilot program. Scream 6 was wild, as Will and Matt attest, and it only is going to get wilder if Scream 7 happens. There were EXCESSIVE gut stabs in this movie, extra gore (but tasteful) and some very strong character development from the newly named “Core Four”. Both Will and Matt called the killer pretty early, which is unusual for a Scream movie, but that didn't take anything away from this wonderful movie. Also, fuck off AMC with your weirdo tiered-seating approach. $15 is enough for a movie ticket already.

Aimy talks with us about her journey to the United States as an immigrant from the Middle East, how she revolutionized the liquor industry, and convincing entertainment & lifestyle titan Mark Cuban to invest $1 million in her product on ABC’s Shark Tank. (Skip to 14:00 for Amy’s interview!) BEERS (4:05): Three words – Long. Live. Beerworks. Both Will and Jake take a crack at some of the newer brews from Long Live – Will reminisces on Here Comes The Wave from earlier this week, and Jake cracks open DDH Prissint live for the first time. BUSINESS (8:40): A quick dive into Apple’s success last week will have you wondering if you should’ve been invested a long time ago. Between an upcoming stock-split and record-high sales, Apple is something you should have on your radar. BALLS (53:36): Everyone loves gambling – especially on college football (seeing as it’s technically not allowed by the NCAA, it makes it that much more appealing!). Unfortunately, the growing sentiment is that we may not see a college football season at all this year. We discuss a few points that every athlete and administrator should be thinking about. Will players have more access to health & well-being resources at school rather than at home? Can they pull it off in a bubble-style format? What will Trevor Lawrence do, given his activism on Twitter? We also discuss some hockey – the New York Rangers have somehow defied all odds and landed the first-overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, essentially entitling them to Alexis Lafrenière, who some are calling the next Sidney Crosby. In baseball, there’s more hate to go around for the Houston Astros, who got into a scuffle with Ramon Laureano after some choice words were exchanged between him and the ‘Stros coaching staff. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/beersbusinessandballs/support

Tales from the pits, a Texas BBQ podcast featuring trendsetters, leaders, and icons from the barbecue industry

Corkscrew BBQ Interview Part 1 Will and Nichole Buckman had just started a family when they decided to transition from running a small barbecue catering business out of their home to a full fledged business. It was a big leap of faith with two young babies at home, but the risk paid off. Corkscrew BBQ began operating their food trailer in 2011 in Spring, Texas (just outside of Houston) and soon began receiving acclaim. Though both had worked in barbecue restaurants as teenagers, Will and Nichole did not do much market research before they began cooking and selling their barbecue, which helped give Corkscrew its unique flavors and style that set it apart from other restaurants. Alison Cook from the Houston Chronicle took notice of Corkscrew BBQ early on and wrote a positive review which brought them an immediate rush of new customers. Over the next several years the Buckmans continued to perfect their craft and in 2013 made the Texas Monthly's coveted Top 50 BBQ List. The accolades continued to roll in and Corkscrew developed a loyal and large fan base, leading to stout lines and daily sell-outs of their product. In the summer of 2015 a building became available in the Old Town Spring area and the Buckmans were ready. Within a few short months they renovated the building and opened Corkscrew BBQ as a brick and mortar in October 2015. Having transitioned to an Oyler pit during the trailer days, Corkscrew added another Oyler to increase capacity for the restaurant. Cooking on two Oyler pits gives Will Buckman the opportunity to put out a stellar, consistent product while still getting a little more sleep than an offset would allow. In the spring of 2017 Corkscrew BBQ once again made the Texas Monthly Top 50 list, this time being placed in the top tier of barbecue in the state as the no. 7 rated joint. Business continues to boom these days for these two hard working, family oriented business owners. Both Will and Nichole remain dedicated to running Corkscrew full time - the restaurant has never been open without one of them there - while also making time for their family. With the Buckman's commitment to serving only high quality, premium meats and ingredients, Corkscrew BBQ stands out with top notch prime all natural brisket, Duroc ribs, homemade cobbler and sides, and non-traditional barbecue items like tacos with homemade green chile ranch. Corkscrew BBQ is a shining example of how great barbecue can be when quality and customer service are held to the highest standard.   www.Corkscrewbbq.com 26608 Keith Street, 77373 Spring, Texas Open Tuesday-Saturday 11am- Sold Out Twitter @corkscrewbbq Instagram corkscrewbbq

12 September 2016 - The stars have almost fully aligned. Will and I are both fully functional this week. Sadly, we have no interview or Extra Mad, because we are both frantically catching-up at work, but the show is all new this week and next week, for our 1-year anniversary show, we have an interview I have been trying to get for a while so I'm excited. At the top of the show I talk about the bankruptcy filing by South Korean shipping giant, Hanjin. Sea freight is a canary in the coal mine economic indicator and the sinking of Hanjin speaks volumes. Also, with Christmas on the horizon, the Toy Shippers Association (no joke, there's clearly a club for everyone), is expressing deep concern. It is already apparent that the stranding of so many toys will be putting extra pressure on reindeer-based transport systems on the night of 24 December. Also during the top block, Will, as predicted/promised, gets into the appearance of Nigel Farage at a Trump rally in Mississippi. Fascism is real and it's gone mainstream. The "Lauering" of the bar by the press has allowed it to go unchallenged for years and now we are all reaping the crop of hate so carefully nurtured by the AltRight. In his block Will has some fun talking about the history of tech and projects that failed because they were too far ahead of their time. The Scottish efforts to build a canal across Panama, the Macon and Akron airships and the Apple Newton were all failures. Still, there is a tiny bit of Newton in every iPhone. Eventually, good ideas tend to take root. In my segment I answer the question, what is blockchain? Bitcoin, the first iteration of blockchain, is an interesting experiment but it has substantial limitations. Blockchain itself, however, will have a big future and be used in many applications. It will not replace currency, for reasons I will get into in more detail next week, but it is an important technology which is on the rise. I do spend some time on the technical limitations of blockchain including the Byzantine Generals problem. There are many serious descriptions of this hurdle as it has been an unresolved challenge, both for programmers and applied mathematicians, for nearly forty years but there was one genuinely short but funny article and I promised to link to it here. 22 February 2016 - This week Will and I ended up with so much to say that we did the whole show ourselves. I open with an update on the economic crisis in Puerto Rico and I follow that with a quick take on economic canaries, Maersk and CSX. Will follows me with news about the terrific campaign of DeRay Mckesson in the mayoral race in Baltimore. DeRay has released spectacular position papers and proposals and is running the kind of campaign which deserves to draw support from progressives across the nation. I'm up next with answers to listener questions relating to the article, "It's Not About the Debt," by Chad Stone. I get into some detail about why using debt-to-GDP ratio as a metric makes no logical sense. As part of my explanation I draw from the excellent Levy Economics Institute Working Paper (Number 603), "Does Excessive Sovereign Debt Really Hurt Growth? A Critique of This Time It's Different, by Reinhart and Rogoff." We also mark the passing of the gifted author and thinker, Umberto Eco. Both Will and I have been deeply impressed by his works and given the bent of the current US elections many of Eco's literary themes seem inordinately timely. In Extra Mad I venture out into the weeds of GDP; what it is, what it isn't, what's wrong with it and the various options. If you listen to the podcast version of the show I'm betting you will be surprised by relevancy of this topic. We do have new interstitial music this week from Bua, the great traditional Irish band. Check out their website and support their music. Traditional music artists have an especially challenging road and artists as fluent and musically astute as Bua are rare. As always, Hopping Mad is available here as a download as well as on Stitcher and iTunes. We are on Twitter and Facebook as IMHoppingMad. We LOVE receiving your feedback, questions and corrections. A few weeks ago when recording the mood was hostile. Both Will and BJ were on edge but could not define the problem. Finally after over an hour of recording BJ says, "I'm getting frustrated and angry" to which Will responded, "Me too, let's figure out why." At that point they stopped recording and happened next is the basis for this episode. After telling the story of what happened that night BJ and Will get into a Conflict 101 lesson followed by a list of healthy and unhealthy responses to conflict. They then discuss the skills needed to effectively resolve conflict. Next is 10 rules for fair fighting with discussions for each rule. Finally they spend the remainder of the show explaining some tips for resolving conflict. Editor's Notes: Due to snow in Tennessee this week Will and BJ recorded the intro via Cisco's Webex using their headsets instead of the regular microphones. Please bear with us as there is some echo from the connection. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

28 September 2015 - This podcast was tough. The combination of our learning curve and strange technical issues was exhausting. Eventually, both Will and I ran out of time. We also ran over time. If you heard the podcast when it aired on Netroots Radio you immediately noticed that the introduction was trimmed, there was no interstitial music, there was no opening chatter between Will and I and Will’s comments on the Catholic church were both fascinating and lightening fast. Will, who handles the editing, had to cut seven minutes out so everything not absolutely necessary got thrown overboard. Obviously, we made rookie mistakes. The good news is that it’s a podcast (and does not air live, for now) so I was able to do a new edit on Friday night. (It would have been done much earlier in the week but I have a demanding job and Will spent his week at the dentist…don’t ask. Ouch!) The “extended” edit (Director’s Cut, lol) has returned our full opening, the chatter we recorded but did not use in the podcast that aired and the interstitial music to the proper places. Sadly, because we could no longer stay awake last Friday, when we were recording, we each ended up recording our “blocks” separately so there is no exchange between us when Will is talking about the Church or when I am talking about Serra. This isn’t how we planned it it’s just how it ended up. We’ll improve. The whole process really does make me realize how spoiled we were just popping in twice a week and doing guest spots on The After Show. Both Will and I are full of ideas and we love the freedom of our own show but we are learning by doing and that always adds in a Jack-in-the-Box full of surprises. The Pope Canonized the Devil and Walk for the Ancestors Responded with Grace I was supposed to be talking about the Vatican Bank this week. I was all set. Then I read that Pope Frances, while in the United States, was going to canonize Fr. Junipero Serra. I lost my mind. Once I located it again I called Will and we changed the entire direction of the show. Will gave us a quick-march through Catholic history as it relates to the broadest social, and especially political, impact of the Catholic church as an institution. I explained who Junipero Serra was and trust me when I say I provided the PG version. This man was very, very bad and the examples I include are just the tip of the Serra iceberg. I am not stretching the truth or embellishing the facts when I tell you that Serra was both cruel and genocidal. Now he’s also a Catholic “saint.” Our interview was with the wonderful Caroline Ward Holland. Like so many people in the indigenous nations in California, Caroline could not rest easy knowing that Serra was to be raised up and canonized while the stories of her ancestors, their whispers and cries, were to continue to be ignored. This is especially disconcerting coming from a Pope who had so recently apologized for the outsized impact of colonization on the indigenous peoples of Latin America. Apparently, he was not also looking to the north. Caroline and her son are walking 650 miles, visiting every mission in California, to draw light and focus to the stories not being told of the tens of thousands of people who were enslaved, abused, ripped from their cultural foundations and died. Caroline’s vision, Walk for the Ancestors, is a genuinely beautiful story. You can follow the Walk on Facebook at Walk for the Ancestors 2015. Please do. – Carrots! Arliss

Will is joined by a new co-host, Brian Smentkowski, a political scientist from the University of Idaho. They begin the show by discussing the current status of the Mueller Report and Democratic efforts to get President Trump's tax returns released. Will sees little value with releasing the report in full while Brian argues that if nothing else it is symbolically necessary. Both agree, however, that the report will be twisted to fit partisan desires. Regarding income tax returns, both note how tradition is guiding discussions more than law at present. Next, they turn to discussing the harassment allegations raised against potential presidential nominee Joe Biden. While Will argues that Biden is from a different era and seems genuinely unsure of what he's done wrong without being malicious, Brian argues there's nothing funny about the allegations and when combined with Biden's past could raise red flags for some voters. Will ties the conversation back to whether the average Democratic voter would risk a Biden nomination (and polling that suggests he's the best chance against Trump in 2020) over the current allegations or not. They then turn to discuss the current field and Tim Ryan's decision to irrelevantly enter the race. Both find Mayor Peter to be an interesting case study. Lastly, the Guys talk about three recent example of government intervention and regulation. First, they look at the focus on self-regulating industries brought to light by the FAA and Boeing's Super Max debacle. Brian argues that self-regulation can work, but it comes with definite risks while Will worries about the cost-benefit of government becoming too involved. Both Will and Brian share concerns over New York City's current proposal for a consumption tax to relieve traffic concerns south of Central Park. Brian isn't sure there will be any impact while Will believes money should be spent on better public transportation to influence ridership. Lastly, both Will and Brian lament the upcoming statewide ban on plastic bags in the state of New York, albeit for very different reasons. *Listener support helps make The Politics Guys possible*. Will and Alexandra open the show discussing the contempt charges brought against Attorney General Barr and it's possible impact. Will argues this is little more than political theater while Alexandra points to the parallels and differences between this and when Republicans found Eric Holder in contempt during the Obama Administration. Both believe the struggle for power between Congress and the President is far from over with Will especially noting how John Roberts must feel watching this while trying to ensure his Court remains politically neutral. They also discuss the subpoena of Donald Trump Jr. by the Senaste Intelligence Committee, chaired by Republican Richard Burr and whether it signals more than just a simple subpoena. Next, they turn to a discussion of Trump's taxes and efforts in California and Illinois to keep candidates off the ballot who don't publicly release tax records. Alexandra notes how the numbers released this week show that Trump has been a failed businessman while Will counters that his supporters never chose him for his buisness acumen. Both believe there's nothing inherently wrong with sharing tax records, but that there is a question of privacy expectations to be considered. Will strongly notes that Republicans likely could care less about being on the ballot in Democratic states. He does point out possible down-ballot concerns, though. Alexandra, on the other hand, points to the impact if states opt to award their Electoral votes to nation-wide winners. This could change the Republican response. Will and Alexandra then turn to discussing the economic showdown between the United States and China. Alexandra points to the deep impact tariffs can have on American citizens--especially those with less spending power today. Will points to the disconnect between IP concerns and increased costs of goods, which seems to be the point we have reached. Both believe this will have an impact on the Democratic primaries and 2020 in general--especially for Republican Senators facing re-elections who must navigate between Trump support and their constituents' economic needs. Lastly, Will and Alexandra discuss recent actions toward Iran. Will argues that while Iran is a concern that Alexandra is right in asserting they are not an immediate threat. Moreover, Will questions why North Korea is treated differently than Iran given who has ready nuclear weapons and who doesn't in the relationship. Alexandra worries about the regional impact of our actions and the general tendency of the Trump Administration to bounce from threat to theat without much explained reason. Both Will and Alexandra point to concerns about broader strategy and implications. *Listener support helps make The Politics Guys possible*.
