On September 27, 2004, 18-year-old Brittany Phillips had what appeared to be a typical day in the life of a college student. She spent time with friends and called her mom later that night to catch up. But after that phone call, no one saw or heard from Brittany again. She didn't show up for her classes, she didn't check in with friends, and she didn't return any of her mother's calls. Days passed with no word, until September 30, when one of her friends called the police. When officers entered the apartment, they found Brittany on the floor next to her bed, with her head positioned toward the foot of the mattress. She had been strangled and possibly sexually assaulted. There were no obvious signs of forced entry, but detectives collected DNA from the scene, hoping that somewhere in that evidence was the identity of her killer. Now, more than twenty years later, that DNA has still not resulted in any arrests, leaving her family still seeking justice. 18-year-old Brittany Phillips was last heard from at around 9:00 p.m. on the night of September 27, 2004, while speaking with her mother on the phone. She was supposed to attend an 8:00 a.m. class the following morning, but she never showed up. Days later, on the night of September 30, Brittany was found dead in her apartment on East 65th Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had been strangled and may have been sexually assaulted. Anyone with information about Brittany's case is urged to contact the Tulsa Police Department's Cold Case Unit by email at TPDColdCaseHomicide@cityoftulsa.org. Brittany Phillips was an 18-year-old college student at Tulsa Community College when she was tragically murdered in her apartment on September 30, 2004. Her body was discovered after she failed to attend classes, showing signs of strangulation and sexual assault. Despite extensive investigations over the past two decades, including interviews with ex-boyfriends, strangers, and sex offenders, no suspects have been identified. In the years following Brittany's death, her mother, Maggie Zingman, has tirelessly pursued justice. She embarked on cross-country trips in her brightly colored KIA Carnival, dubbed the "Caravan to Catch a Killer," to raise awareness and generate new leads. These efforts have led to numerous tips, though none have conclusively solved the case. A significant development occurred in 2023 when Maggie discovered a birthday card mailed by Brittany in 2004, postmarked two days after her presumed death. This finding has prompted investigators to reconsider the timeline of events. Detectives are currently analyzing DNA found under Brittany's fingernails using genetic genealogy techniques, hoping to identify the perpetrator. Despite these challenges, Maggie remains committed to finding her daughter's killer, stating, "I want my daughter's case solved before I die."www.brittanyyphillipsmurder.netBrittany Phillips Tik tok: @Caravantocatchakiller www.unforbiddentruth.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unforbidden-truth--4724561/support.

Brittany Phillips had just moved back home to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend nearby Tulsa Community College, with plans to transfer to Oklahoma State. She aspired to work in the medical field. Episode 84 Brittany PhillipsEighteen year old Brittany Phillips was a bubbly and bright college student with a bright future, but in late September, 2004, her life came to a violent and tragic end when she was raped and murdered in her Tulsa apartment. The news was devastating for Brittany's family, and it would be years of ups and downs in the case before it looked like the case might be close to being solved. Police had DNA to work with, and it eventually led to a suspect. Unfortunately, things were not as cut and dry as they appeared, and that suspect had an acceptable alibi according to police. The news was a letdown for Brittany's mom Dr. Maggie Zingman, but that has not stopped her from being a champion and advocate for her only daughter. Trauma is defined in the episode as “Any experience that overwhelms our ability to cope.”I (Deanna) remember my daughter Kendall, at only 4 weeks old, contracting RSV from my 2-year old son.I took her to the hospital an watched her struggle to breathe while a team of doctors and nurses crowded around her tiny body as she screamed. I was terrified. Was my baby going to die?I sat at my daughter's PICU bedside - staring at her monitors like I was watching Netflix - looking for decline. There was a ventilator sitting right next to her bed at the ready if she showed signs of distress.Four grueling days later, I was told that she was going to be moved to a regular room in the hospital. I'll never forget the nurse saying these words, “This is a good thing. Not every parent sees their child leave here.” [INSERT RELIEF HERE.]This experience, for me, was an emotional TRAUMA. And in this episode, we're chatting with Brittany Phillips, Trauma Informed Therapist, about overcoming the effects of trauma in our lives, and the number one way God desires to help us heal.Picture of a Kintsugi Bowl - the Art of Precious ScarsConnect with Brittany PhillipsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/brittanyantoinette/Email: Admin@phillipspsychotherapy.comResources: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us, https://therapyforblackgirls.com/The Moms Called to More Membership CommunityIf you're looking for a faith membership community to receive support as you start and/or grow your new business, we invite you to join the Moms Called to More Membership Community today.Learn more and join at https://deannamason.com/membership/CONNECT WITH DEANNADownload my 5 Daily Prayers for Mompreneurs.I'd love to serve your community at your next moms event. It was Monday evening on September 27, 2004, when Dr. Maggie Zingman spoke to her daughter Brittany Phillips around 9 p.m. Brittany was tired from her allergies and having no luck getting a doctor’s appointment. Maggie told her daughter she would get her an appointment. After thanking her mother, Brittany told her mother she was going to drop off her friend and head home to her apartment at Glen Eagles and then go to bed. Unknown to Maggie, this would be the last time she would ever speak to her daughter or see her alive. On Friday, October 1, 2004, around 1 am, someone knocked on Maggie’s door. She opened the door. A young deputy told her that she needed to call the Tulsa Police department because someone had murdered her daughter. Little did Maggie know, her life would never be the same. Her best friend and beloved daughter was gone forever. If you have any information about the death of Brittany Phillips, please call the Tulsa Homicide Hotline at 918-798-8477. In episodes 1 and 2 of this chapter, you heard from Brittany’s mother, Dr. Margaret Zingman aka Maggie as well as Brittany’s brother, Josh Phillips. You learned a bit more about who Brittany was as a person, as much as possible, that is. In episode 3, we will delve into the different persons of interest of whom the police cleared as well as circumstances surrounding the case, and theories.  Additionally, we will discuss CODIS, genetic genealogy, and how Parabon Snapshots are helping solve cases today. Since her daughter Brittany Phillips' murder in 2004, Maggie Zingman has traveled the country on the Caravan to Catch a Killer.  On October 1, 2004 a friend found Brittany dead in her East Tulsa apartment. Investigators said the killer raped and suffocated her. Detectives collected DNA from the crime scene and have since run over 3,000 samples in Oklahoma. Currently they are looking at one specific person, but the case remains unsolved. "I know finding her killer is not going to bring closure, but I want to feel like at least I stopped him from killing other people," Zingman said. Since Brittany's death, Zingman has found a way to keep her daughter's spirit alive. She travels across the country in what she calls "A Caravan to Catch a Killer." She shares Brittany's story and educates others about the benefits of DNA swabbing people under arrest.
