We're joined by Caroline Allen, Chief Veterinary Officer, RSPCA and Rob Denman, Head of Professional and Field Services Gas Safe Register discussing the silent killer that is carbon monoxide poisoning in our pets. Raising awareness as part of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week (Monday 18th-Friday 22nd November 2024), the Gas Safety Register and the RSPCA have joined forces to raise awareness of the vital signs your pet has potentially been exposed to carbon monoxide, saving not only their lives but yours too! New figures show almost all pet owners (99%) are not able to correctly identify all the signs that indicate their pet could be suffering from poisoning from a carbon monoxide leak, despite pets often feeling the impact much earlier than humans due to their size.Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas businesses who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. To find a Gas Safe registered engineer visit GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500. Kim Landeen and Carolina Allen discuss the tenet, “We value the irreplaceable role of fathers and build interdependent relationships with men.” “It gives us all the more authority to speak because it can be an interesting thing to be getting advice for the world from a group of people that have completely disavowed, or just said, ‘Hey we are not engaging with men anymore; we're completely writing them off from any sort of significant interaction.' That doesn't give you credibility in the world because the men still exist, and they're still a part of this world with us. To have a feminist voice that's saying, ‘I am in these messy trenches of a hard relationship, and I am making it work. We're working on it, that gives us way more authority to speak on behalf of feminism in general.” – Carolina Allen Partnership – “How much better off am I when I have a partner in the work equally yoked, so that I'm not feeling less than or being treated like an employee, or that my husband is my supervisor or my manager… my husband is equally yoked to do the work with me, where his contributions outside of the home and inside of the home are valued, and likewise with my contributions outside of the home and inside of the home, and where we can fill in for each other with our unique gifts and strengths and lighten the load wherever we are and see each other as teammates.” – Carolina Allen “People don't get through life unscathed, and as we are willing to invest in the healing of our spouses, in the healing of our partners, great things do come from that.” – Kim Landeen “We need fathers. They are truly key players in establishing our homes; they are key players in establishing communities that really respect women and respect girls. Without them, we lack so much.” – Kim Landeen “We need the men in our lives to show up… We don't need men just to be present, we need men to be actively engaged in the home.” – Kim Landeen “The idea of ‘fathers' and the idea of ‘fatherhood' implies a selflessness that's embedded in there: that you're living not just for yourself, but for someone else, and there's a maturity level there. We're inviting me to rise to that level of ‘father.'” – Carolina Allen “(Men), become better with us, rise to the occasion. Be partners in marriage, be partners in life, be partners in rearing children, and in society and all of the good things that come with that.” – Kim Landeen “Building takes effort and building takes time. Building takes forethought and planning, but it's worth it.” – Kim Landeen “Our call to women is to see this value in men. See the struggle, recognize the struggle, see that there is value in the struggle, there is value of partnering with these men in our lives, of surrounding these men with love, even when they're not necessarily exhibiting the best behaviors, because we see the value in these men, we see the potential in these men. And men, we ask you to partner with us. Truly partner with us. Step up. Yoke yourself beside us. Let's raise these families, let's raise society, let's raise each other in the process. Let's become the best us we can be by becoming the best we that we can be. Let's raise our families, let's strengthen our society. We need you!” – Kim Landeen Carolina is the founder and leader of Big Ocean Women, the international maternal feminist organization representing perspectives of faith, family, and motherhood throughout civil society. Carolina holds a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Utah with an emphasis in cultural religions and philosophy of science. Her inspirational and philosophical work has been presented at various international U.N. conferences. She is a native of Brazil, and a fluent trilingual. She and her husband Kawika are parents to 7 children. She is an avid soccer fan and had a brief career as a semi-professional player.   Kim Landeen is a founding member and a Global Team Director of Big Ocean Women, the international maternal feminist organization representing perspectives of faith, family, and motherhood throughout civil society. Kim has a deep love for the natural world. She lives in Alaska with her family where she enjoys spending the slower paced life with her children combing the beach for treasures, gardening, picking wild berries, and spending rainy lazy days making bread, reading books, and watching movies. She is an ecotour captain in Glacier Bay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where she helps educate her clients on the relationship between humanity and the larger eco-environment. In addition to her love of nature, she also enjoys studying theology and the inner workings of the soul as well as tracking global political and social movements. Her love for God, people, and this world drives her to continually seek to improve her own circumstances and the circumstances of all those with whom she comes in contact.

Like most children who grew up in the Midwest on a subsistence farm, Caroline Allen was taught to be kind to animals and love them on the one hand, and to butcher them  for food on the other hand. Hunting and fishing were all part of life on the farm and one Caroline prided herself in being very skilled at. Caroline describes her upbringing as very loving, yet very poor… dirt poor. Eager to leave the rural life behind, Caroline jumped at the chance to get a four year degree in journalism when she was awarded a scholarship.  University was light years from where her mother and father were with their education. Neither had graduated high school opting to get their GED in their sixties and seventies. Knowing what it was like to be dirt poor, without an education, Caroline was determined to make something of herself. With a definition of success that included travel, money, a fast paced life and “being somebody” Caroline had no clue what was in store. After obtaining her degree, she set off to see the world, using her writing skills as the ticket out of the rural life. Her impressive resume includes being a newsroom journalist in Tokyo and London, travels to exotic places and living a bona-fide jet setting lifestyle. After working as a journalist in Tokyo, after working in a newsroom during the death of Emperor Hirohito and the cultural sea change that wrought, Caroline spent a year traveling Southeast Asia — India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia. Yet, life as she knew it came to a screeching halt at a point where most people would say she made it. Feeling a strong call to give up the life she had grown accustomed to, Caroline knew there was a bigger purpose to her life, but she had no idea what that was. Although she loved the crazy, jet-setting life that was world’s away from her impoverished, rural Missouri upbringing, something was calling her. That something was art, book coaching and most importantly, a commitment to complete compassion to animals and the planet through a vegan lifestyle. What followed were many years of self-exploration, Wretched, painful years of confusion, despair, and heart-break. Not sure if she was having a break-through or a break-down, everything that defined her was taken away. Thus, began the journey of rebuilding her life from the ground up. Today, as a novelist, visual artist and book coach, Caroline Allen lives by the core values of creativity, authenticity, purpose, and contribution. Join in on our conversation where we dig deep into what veganism means to Caroline, how she was able to align her purpose by spending extended periods of time in nature, when the flood gates of her visual art work opened up, and the confusion she sees from people who continue to eat factory farmed animals. A 100% committed vegan for eight years, Caroline sees her journey as one that allows her to raise awareness about sentient beings and our relationship to all living things. Setting up her art studio in a yurt, filled with over 600 drawings, in a very private area in Oregon, Caroline spends her days painting, coaching clients and allowing life to unfold in a most natural way. One of her greatest joys is spending time with animals at one of several sanctuaries, painting everything from horses, goals, pigs, and cows. A portion of proceeds from the sale of her artwork is donated back to the sanctuaries. Dr. Sammy Allen, 82, of Resaca, GA died Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Advent Health Gordon. Rev. Allen was born, October 4, 1937, as Robert Verland Allen, son of the late Vince W. and Myrtle McKinley Timms Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson; Vince Allen, and by two sisters; Nettie Allen Baker and Johnnie Ruth Allen Dean. After several months of deep Holy Ghost conviction, he was saved by the grace of God in the summer of 1955. Immediately upon his conversion, he began to witness to others about their need of salvation. This burden became so heavy that he began to speak as a lay preacher in Sunday School classes, cottage prayer meetings, and even in church services every time he was given an opportunity. Bro. Allen announced his calling to preach in 1961. He soon was called to be the pastor of Maple Grove Baptist Church and New Prospect Baptist Church. These were half time churches. In October 1961, Bro. Allen was used of the Lord to organize the Concord Baptist Mission into Concord Baptist Church, and was the only pastor for 59 years. Immediately after he announced his calling into the ministry, God began to open doors for the young fiery preacher to preach revival meetings. This evangelistic ministry grew so fast that by 1964 the young preacher had to leave his job in the carpet mill and go full-time in evangelism. He continued to preach meetings week after week across the country in both small and large churches. In the late 1960s, God began to lay a burden on Bro. Allen’s heart for a Camp Meeting in the area where he lived. After much prayer and waiting upon the Lord, Faith Baptist Camp was born with the first Camp Meeting held under a large tent on the grounds in June 1970. Faith Baptist Camp has been very blessed of the Lord and has been used to be a blessing to so many people and churches across America. As an older man, Dr. Allen is held in high respect by all the Fundamental Baptists all across the country that knows him. He is known as an Evangelist, a Revivalist, a Camp Meeting Preacher, a Pastor, and a Preacher’s Friend by those who know him and love Old Fashion Christianity. He now holds two Honorary Doctorate Degrees. Every student of Faith Baptist Institute will be affected by the leadership of this dynamic man of God. Dr. Allen was married on December 28, 1962, to Jimmie Lou Wilson. She has stood by his side as a faithful, loving, God-fearing wife in every task he has attempted. God has blessed their home with two sons; Samuel (Sabrina) Allen of Resaca, and David (Gwen) Allen of Calhoun; daughter; Hannah Allen of Resaca, grandchildren; Samuel and Alexis Allen of Flowery Branch, Elisabeth Allen of Dalton, Nathanael Allen of Calhoun, Hagen Allen of Resaca and Brianna Allen of Resaca, Great-grandchildren; Caroline Allen of Dalton and Gibson Allen of Flowery Branch, GA. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. The funeral service for Dr. Sammy Allen will be conducted on Friday, August 7, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. from Concord Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Randy Sutherland will officiate along with Bro. Tony Hudson, Bro. Marion Atkinson, Bro. Denver Boling, Bro. Ronnie Simpson, Bro. Marvin Carr, and Bro. Joe Arthur. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Alan Sosebee, Ken Johnson, Steve Johnson, Nick Johnson, Joey Baker, Scotty Bryant, Ricky Bryant, Brandon Reeves, Doug Wilson, and Mike Andrews; honorary pallbearers are Jim Fox, Bobby Thomas, Mike Bell, Mike Lane, Rev. Charles Henderson, Tyrone Wilson, Donnie Rigdon, Rev. Steve Powers, Rev. David Cash, Stan Ritter, Ronnie Russ, William Nix, Rev. Billy Wilson, Rev. Travis Clayton, Robert Croft, Jamie Trammell, Adam Evans, Brandon Ensley, and Silas Foster. The family will receive friends at Concord Baptist Church on Thursday, August 6, 2020, between the hours of 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/17725223/Dr-Sammy-Allen Dr. Allen preached this message, on Thursday morning, June 12, 2003, at the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Taylors, SC's Camp Meeting.
