You know him, you love him, you want to date him: Moth Man. This week Zoey talks about the Origin of Moth Man who we're technically including in the South since he was seen in the Appalachian Mountains. First seen in 1966, the cryptid was six or seven feet tall, light gray, had a wing span of 10 feet, and red eyes glowing in the headlights about two inches in diameter and spaced six inches apart. But what you might not know is his legacy of being a harbinger of death. He is known to show up right before a national tragedy like Chernobyl, 9/11, and the falling of the Silver Bridge. Though he's taken up quite a bit of legend, and has been meme-ified, is the part man part moth real? Nestor Barajas My guest today is Nester Barajas who is a member of the S.W.A.T team of the Bakersfield Police Department. On this episode, we talk about how he has always wanted to be a cop since he was a kid and how it was on his first day on the job as a police officer. We talk about gangs, drugs and crime in Bakersfield as well as Nationally. We also talk about the current Catalytic Converter problem across America and mine being stolen at the Bakersfield mall at 10am. We also talk about his company Kern River Leather, that makes beautiful leather products and the importance and therapy of the outdoors and fly fishing and what that does for him. I'm stoked to have him on the podcast as most of us including myself have no clue the amount of danger that members of law enforcement put themselves in every single day and the amount of crime that goes on in our cities. I'm super thankful to him and the people in law enforcement for what they do every single day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

San Francisco is re-upping a program to make catalytic converters more traceable, in hopes of slowing down the theft of the highly sought-out car part containing highly valuable metals. The program comes months after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two statewide laws hoping to address the problem, which has caused big headaches for car owners. When people lose their catalytic converters, they sometimes have to go months without a car, and are often on the hook for thousands of dollars in costs. Episode transcript Guest: Jose Fermoso, road safety reporter for The Oaklandside This episode first published Oct. 22, 2022.
Catalytic converters are a part that all gas-powered vehicles in California are required to have in order to keep their exhaust up to our air quality standards. Thousands of cars across Los Angeles have had theirs stolen, because of the part's valuable precious metals. Reporter: Megan Jamerson, KCRW California's record snowpack is starting to melt, and it might impact peak wildfire season. For some higher-elevation parts of the state, excess snowpack from the winter might stick around longer than usual and help in reducing severe wildfire risks. But in lower-elevation areas that dry out sooner, it's a different story. Reporter: Manola Secaira, CapRadio
