Dunamis Charge is an advertiser.Devin: What is your superpower?Natalie: I truly believe, Devin, that my superpower is faith. In today's episode of Superpowers for Good, I had the pleasure of speaking with Natalie King, the dynamic Founder and CEO of Dunamis Charge. Natalie's passion and commitment to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure are truly inspiring, and her insights highlight the importance of equitable access to EV charging stations.Natalie emphasized the “chicken and the egg” scenario that has hindered the widespread adoption of EVs. While EV adoption rates have not met initial expectations, she pointed out that this is largely due to insufficient EV infrastructure. This gap presents a unique opportunity for Dunamis Charge to step in and make a significant impact. As she put it, “You do have real range anxiety for EV drivers and for those interested in purchasing an EV but won't because the EV infrastructure is not there.”Dunamis Charge is not just another player in the EV market; it is a trailblazer focused on serving underserved communities. Natalie passionately described how Dunamis Charge is leveraging billions of dollars in federal investment to create reliable and accessible EV charging stations. By setting up a manufacturing plant in Detroit, Dunamis Charge is not only addressing the infrastructure gap but also creating jobs and supporting local communities. “We are uniquely positioned to take advantage of all of the billions of dollars being invested right now in this EV infrastructure industry and to make it well and to make it right here in America and to employ workers from America to build it,” Natalie shared. Moreover, Natalie's commitment to environmental justice is evident in her approach. Dunamis Charge's “Communities in Charge” program partners with faith-based and nonprofit organizations to educate and engage communities about the benefits of EVs. This initiative ensures that the transition to EVs is inclusive and beneficial for all. As Natalie eloquently put it, “We want to be that bridge to those communities because we already work in those communities, we hire from those communities, and we believe that we can bring the EV deployment as an opportunity.”In essence, Dunamis Charge is not only solving the current EV infrastructure challenges but also paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future. Natalie King's visionary leadership and dedication to equitable access make her a true changemaker in the EV industry. I am excited to see how Dunamis Charge will continue to transform the landscape of EV infrastructure and make electric vehicles a reality for everyone.Dunamis Charge is conducting a regulated investment crowdfunding offering on Rise Up Crowdfunding.tl;dr:1. Guest Introduction and Topic Overview: Devin introduces Natalie King, the CEO of Dunamis Charge, emphasizing her role in the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure industry in Detroit. They discuss the growing demand and the issues around EV adoption and charging infrastructure.2. Challenges in EV Adoption: Natalie explains the "chicken and egg" issue with EV adoption and charging infrastructure. Despite investments, the anticipated growth rate for EV adoption has not been met, causing some to pull back on infrastructure investments. However, she sees this as an opportunity for Dunamis Charge to address range anxiety and ensure reliable EV infrastructure.3. Focus on Equity and Inclusion: Dunamis Charge aims to bring EV infrastructure to underserved and underrepresented communities. Leveraging initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Natalie speaks about promoting environmental justice and ensuring all communities benefit from EV infrastructure.4. Community Engagement and Education: Natalie discusses the "Communities in Charge" program, which partners with organizations to bring EV education and charging solutions to faith-based and nonprofit groups. This initiative includes educating communities about the benefits of EV adoption and providing information on incentives and economic opportunities.5. Company Growth and Future Plans: Natalie highlights Dunamis Charge's progress, including a forecast for significant revenue growth and ongoing efforts to expand their EV charging solutions across various states. The discussion also covers the company's crowdfunding campaign on Rise Up Crowdfunding to enable broader community investment and support for their mission. How to Develop Faith As a SuperpowerNatalie King's superpower is her unwavering faith. This faith has guided her through numerous challenges in the clean energy technology space, particularly as a minority woman in a field with few peers. Her faith propels her to persevere, innovate, and give back to the community, even when the path ahead is unclear.Natalie shared a compelling story about her struggle to secure capital for Dunamis Charge. Despite numerous banks praising her business concept and her vision, they repeatedly turned her down due to various reasons. This recurring disappointment was challenging, but her faith kept her determined. Natalie believes that resources follow passion and vision, which eventually helped her overcome these financial hurdles.Tips for Developing the Superpower:* Persevere Through Challenges: Keep moving forward even when the path is unclear and obstacles arise.* Maintain a Vision: Have a clear vision of your goals and believe in them, even if others do not immediately see the potential.* Seek Support: Connect with people and organizations that believe in your mission and can offer support.* Prepare in Advance: Secure resources before you need them to avoid last-minute challenges.* Trust the Process: Have faith that if you are doing what you are meant to do, everything will eventually work out.By following Natalie's example and advice, you can make faith a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. We love to talk about soil conservation practices on this show, but it's always important to frame it in a realistic context that acknowledges farms are businesses. This means that the right thing for the soil has to also be the right thing for the farm's profitability. Michigan farmer Laurie Isley shares how she's embraced new practices at Sunrise Farms, from strip tillage to precision technology to biologicals and beyond on today's episode of Soil Sense. “We've also found that we continue to be profitable in the same way that we were before using these other practices. And that's really the point we try and get across to the farmers we talk to. Profitability is not this one and conservation this one. They can be very close together. It's not like they're two ends of a spectrum. Some of it isn't that I'm getting a greater yield. It's just, I have fewer costs related to the tillage that I was doing prior to that.” - Laurie Isley Laurie is one of the owners of Sunrise Farms in Southeastern Michigan along with her husband, Jim and their son Jacob. The family farm grows about 1100 acres of corn and soybeans and implements a lot of different conservation practices including strip tillage, cover crops which they have flown on, filter strips, soil tests, and precision ag practices. Laurie, who also spent decades teaching agriscience at the high school level, now also contributes to the industry as part of the Michigan Soybean Committee and the United Soybean Board, where she is the chair of the Communication and Education Committee. “It requires people that are open to seeking more information. So I guess my major message to them is don't settle. Be willing to look for what are new opportunities that I can use on my farm that will help me to be more profitable, but also help to ensure that the soil that I leave behind for the generations to come is as good as it possibly can be and still viable for other generations to continue farming in this area.” Laurie Isley This Week on Soil Sense: Meet Michigan farmer Laurie Isley as she shares how she's embraced new practices at Sunrise Farms Explore the introduction and use of cover crops on her operation and the efforts she's making to share her experiences with other producers Discover Laurie's journey from agriscience teacher to the Michigan Soybean Board and United Soybean Board Thank you to the Soy Checkoff for sponsoring this Farmers for Soil Health series of the Soil Sense podcast. Steven Jack Butala: Welcome to the Land Academy Show. Entertaining land investment talk. I'm Steven Jack Butala. Jill K DeWit: And I'm Jill DeWit, broadcasting from the beautiful, scenic land of M22. Steven Jack Butala: Wow. Jill K DeWit: Boy, wasn't that pretty? We did a lot of M22 the other day. Steven Jack Butala: I'll explain it in a second. Jill K DeWit: Okay. Steven Jack Butala: Today is Jack Thursday and I'm going to talk to you about how it is now the fourth quarter, and you have to make some decisions about how you want the rest of your financial year to go. Jill K DeWit: Sounds like a football moment. Steven Jack Butala: Yeah. Jill K DeWit: Okay. Steven Jack Butala: There's a road called M22, the state road Michigan 22. And it goes around... If Michigan were a mitten, it goes around this finger right here, your pinky finger around here. Through... But there's a big traverse bay here. And Jill and I drove it. I grew up in Michigan, Southeastern Michigan. I never knew this stuff was up here. Jill K DeWit: Beautiful. Steven Jack Butala: What an amazing drive. Jill K DeWit: Yes, we have seen the dunes. Yes, we had lunch in Fishtown. Yes, we thought, "We should buy something here." Only because, as we're rolling through, it's like 75 degrees. We hit... As Jack calls it, a chamber of commerce worthy day. That's the day that we did M22. Steven Jack Butala: Yeah. Jill K DeWit: Not January M22. So yeah. Steven Jack Butala: January M22, you would do on a snowmobile. Jill K DeWit: Yeah. No, that would be fun too, actually. I did see the snowmobile signs as we're rolling around. Oh, just gorgeous. Steven Jack Butala: What's cool, is that somebody took the concept of N22, the sign. Jill K DeWit: Yeah. Steven Jack Butala: The road sign. And now they have all these products with M22 on it. They have a directory of things to go to people. Buy dry suits, and actually, while it's snowing, literally surf. The surfs that... on certain points on the M22, there's great surfing. And they also have little local bars or restaurants all over the place, so. I just thought that was just brilliant, brilliant marketing. My guest for this episode of the Guest Friends podcast is a man whose persona is a thoughtful collection of writer, minister, educator, thespian, and encourager: Paul Patton. He and his wife Beth were married in 1974; they have 3 daughters and 8 grandchildren. He currently resides in Spring Arbor, Michigan – where he recently retired as Professor of Communication and Media at Spring Arbor University. In the 2021 book he co-authored with his fellow educator Robert H. Woods Jr. titled “Everyday Sabbath: How to Lead Your Dance with Media and Technology in Mindful and Sacred Ways”, his prayerful plea for the next generation is that they would “…love deeply, think wisely, and forgive quickly.” Paul initially went to Spring Arbor to play college baseball, but along the way he became a youth minister. It was while pastoring at Trinity Baptist Church in Livonia that Paul had the idea in the Spring of 1981 to start Trinity House Theatre when he experienced the unifying power that performing plays could bring to all involved – especially to those who needed it most. So, with no previous theatrical training, he jumped in to start writing and producing plays that would “…enliven the communities of Southeastern Michigan through brave, truthful, and necessary works of art.” 40+ years later, Trinity House is celebrating its anniversary as a sacred listening room for performing artists to thrive (it's predominantly known as a live music venue now). For several years, I only knew Paul by myth and legend, until I finally had a chance to meet him at a dinner party shortly after I joined the Trinity House board of directors. Paul is just one of those people who you can't help but be awed by their wisdom and presence. Along with being encouragers of creative efforts, we've also bonded over being fellow podcasters – with his short-form podcast series “Soul Stirrings” (available on SoundCloud) giving insights to the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I met up with Paul on the very stage he helped to build all those years ago in order to discuss the particulars surrounding the founding of the theatre. Amongst other insights, Paul shares how innovative auditioning techniques opened up the possibilities for a previously overlooked population of acting hopefuls; why it's stupid to hold back on complimenting people; and how memorization can activate an oasis of the mind whenever you need it (you'll hear his evidence of that, firsthand). As a bonus, we also discuss some of the history of the small meeting house at Six Mile and Haggerty (built in 1850 in Livonia, Michigan) that Trinity House has resided in since its founding, and we reveal a special historical event that took place within its walls. Have you wondered how you could share the consciousness shifting with younger generations? How could you explain the infinite possibilities available to each of us through understanding our thoughts and feelings to create our own reality? In this week's Light Up Your Worth podcast host Debbie McAllister talks with co-authors, Phoenix Rose and Sara Anne Noah, of The Grass is Always Greenest Under Our Own Feet. The Grass is Always Greenest Under Our Own Feet is the transformative and metaphysical journey of two superhero teenagers, Synchronicity and Serendipity Heavenridge, who come from the town of Starseed, a Utopian village where everyone's aura shines brightly an the grass is always green under their feet. The intuitively gifted siblings answer a call for help to go on a divine mission to the town of Lost Valley, a place caught up in the trauma and drama of the old paradigm of lack and limitations. There, they explore the experience concepts foreign to them, such as fear, illness, doom, greed, racism, polluted air and water; scarcity, and lack of compassion. Ultimately, they help to uplift, heal, transform and shift the lower vibrations of the townspeople into unconditional love consciousness before it's too late. Co-authors, Phoenix Duffy and Sara Anne Noah were both born and raised in Southeastern Michigan but did not know of each other. Serendipitously, they both arrived in Northern California in the summer of 2016 and met in the East Bay at a spiritual center called The Home Of Truth. Scotty and Schultzy Talk Midwest Smallies, Great Lakes Fishing, Hockey, and More! Mike Schultz (known as “Schultzy” to most) is the owner of Schultz Outfitters Fly Shop & Guide Service specializing in Southeastern Michigan angling, instruction, and destination travel. Born and raised in the great state of Michigan, Schultzy has been immersed in the outdoors. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, he started guiding and working in the fly fishing industry full time. Logging countless hours on the water each year, Schultzy has developed a vast knowledge of Midwestern waters and beyond. The bulk of his guiding and angling takes place on his home waters of Southeastern Michigan; these rivers offer world class warm-water fishing. His angling travels have taken him from Patagonia to Russia and many places in between. Over the years with the help of the Huron River Watershed Council, Schultzy founded the Huron River Single Fly as well as the Huckin' for the Huron. Both are annual fundraisers that take place on his home waters of the Huron River; Michigan's Blue Ribbon Smallmouth stream. During the spring of 2014 Schultzy was honored with the HRWC Partner of the Year award.
