While most of the country makes New Year's resolutions that kick in right after January 1st, in Louisiana, there tends to be a slight postponement. That's because Carnival Season, a time of indulgence, kicks off on January 6th with the astounding king cake eating and cocktail drinking that comes with it. So, our resolutions about healthy living and sobriety tend to wait until Ash Wednesday – the day after Mardi Gras. This week, we hear from experts about the merits of clean living. Since she first opened her practice, Dr. Erika Siegel has extolled the virtues of eating the right foods as the foundation of good health. Across a decade and a half, the naturopathic physician collected all of her sage advice and put it into a book, "The Nourish Me Kitchen." The first half of the two-volume set offers easily digestible recommendations from stocking a healthy pantry to getting a good night's sleep. The second half features more than 300 recipes for creating healthy and delicious meals. Dr. Siegel joins us in the studio to discuss her book and share some practical advice on achieving and maintaining optimal health. Then, two of the Big Easy's native sons, Chris Copeland and Dan Forman tell us about how their NOLA Detox and Recovery Center incorporates New Orleans-style hospitality and food to help clients overcome addiction. Chris Copeland is uniquely himself. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Chris grew up inspired by graffiti, comics, his siblings, and was moved to tell stories with pen and ink from a young age.   Chris moved to LA in 2009 where he would break into animation as a storyboard artist at Warner Bros Animation. After years of successfully navigating around the industry and learning storytelling at various studios including Marvel, Cartoon Network and Titmouse Animation to name a few, Chris had his directorial debut on the hit Netflix show, "Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts" at Dreamworks. He then served as a co-showrunner with his brother Justin on Robert Kirkman's “Invincible” animated tv show for Amazon, before they both returned to Dreamworks Feature Animation as co-directors on a feature in development as well as co-supervising producers on two new TV series in development at the studio.   In this episode of Masters of Storytelling, Maya talks to Chris about the value of living authentically, why diverse teams lend to more interesting stories, and why we should all be more like peaches.     For more information about Chris Copeland and the Copeland Brothers: https://bit.ly/3uybOiM    For more information about BRC: https://bit.ly/3B4RDKB    Follow BRC on Instagram: https://bit.ly/3a9OJsu

Halfway There | Christian Testimonies | Spiritual Formation, Growth, and Personal Experiences with God

Hey friends! This month's bonus episode is with Chris Copeland. Chris and his wife Joi appeared on Halfway There episode #98 back in July 2018. They had been raising support to go to Ireland as missionaries for four years at the time. Yesterday, they shared a special update that they finally reached 100 % of the funding they needed to begin the process of moving to Ireland. If you're wondering why reaching 100% is only the beginning, well, I was too. Listen to the conversation to find out what the process is like from here. Once I heard they finally reached the goal, I just had to have Chris on to talk about the perseverance it takes, how that shaped their family, and what they see the Lord doing now. You can hear the entire conversation by supporting Halfway There on Pateron at any level starting at just $5 per month. Have you ever had to wait way longer than expected for something? Flinder Boyd is a former professional basketball player who now writes longform journalism. For 10 years, he played as a point guard in the lower and upper levels of many professional European basketball leagues. Now he’s writing, often about basketball. His story “20 Minutes at Rucker Park” profiles a young man’s cross-country journey on a Greyhound bus to New York City’s streetball Mecca. That story was published on SB Nation Longform. It was subsequently a Longform selection and named by Longreads a Top 5 Longread of the Week. It was also a Nieman Storyboard recommended reading selection and earned Boyd Longread’s Favorite New Writer Discovery in 2013. Finally, Sports on Earth called the story a Top 20 sports story in 2013. To top things off, the story was anthologized in Best American Sports Writing 2014. He’s written two other stories for SB Nation Longform; a profile of NBA player Chris Copeland and a first-hand account of the corruption and chaos of playing professional basketball in Slovakia. Since joining the podcast, Boyd has started writing for many other outlets, including Rolling Stone, Newsweek and Fox Sports, where he wrote about Rafael Palmeiro in April 2016. Boyd has also written for The Classical, Sports On Earth and BBC online among others. You can follow him on Twitter @FlinderBoyd.

Ainda no Leste falamos de Josh Smith no Pistons, Al Jefferson no Bobcats, Mike Dunleavy no Bulls e Paul Millsap no Hawks. No Oeste o assunto é Andre Iguodala no Warriors, as várias contratações do Portland Trail Blazers e o novo Wolves com Kevin Martin e Chase Budin
