"Rebuilding Broken Places" - June 7, 2026 - Assistant Pastor Anthony Roberts
What if the broken parts of your life are not something to fix, but something to carry with purpose? In this episode of Rise and Shine, Adrienne explores a deeply Jewish perspective on resilience, identity, and growth. Drawing on a powerful story about a familiar bridge, the wisdom of the Talmud, and the enduring strength of the Jewish people, she reframes what it means to live with both joy and pain at once, offering a grounded, practical approach to navigating challenge, parenting through complexity, and leading with Jewish values. For those seeking meaning, strength, and clarity in uncertain times, this episode is a reminder: resilience is not perfection. It is learning to move forward with courage, faith, and purpose. The Rise & Shine Podcast Series is made possible by the generous support of Bonnie Vozar of Chicago, Illinois. Relationships can be better. We can learn to get along with each other better. Human beings have a capacity for wisdom, beauty, delight, humor, and forgiveness. Yes, there is pain and brokenness in relationships, but people are worth the kindness and forgiveness—and we'll grow strong in the process. As Hemingway said: “Life breaks everyone and afterwards some are strong in the broken places.” In Episode 58, Landon picks up with the sixth of the significant seven keys to fully living. It's excerpted from the course of the same name, available on the Heartbeat App -- available in the Apple App Store or the Googe Play Store.

In this episode, Brandon explores Hemingway's famous line: “The world breaks everyone.”But instead of treating breaking as failure, we look at it through the Stoic lens—as a natural part of being human, and the raw material for growth. From tendon micro-tears in heavy lifting, to emotional micro-fractures in leadership and relationships, we break far more often than we admit. And yet every fracture offers us a choice: shatter through denial… or rebuild into something stronger.Brandon talks about:• Why strong people break harder• The illusion of invulnerability• Micro-damage as a metaphor for character development• Stoic recovery: reflection, realignment, rebuilding• How to turn every break into wisdom• Why breaking means you're becoming—not failingIf you're carrying a heavy load, if you feel cracks forming, or if you've recently broken and are trying to make sense of it—this episode will help you rebuild strong at the broken places.

Most of us have encountered trauma either in our own direct experience or with someone in our immediate circle. This talk examines the shame and suffering that arise from trauma and how meditation practices can support a path to full spiritual healing. We focus on practices that help us access a sense of love and safety, and then increase our capacity to bring presence to the unprocessed, unlived life in the body. (Note: For many who suffer from PTSD, therapy is invaluable and these practices are not considered as a substitute.) Podcast Intro Music: Adrienne Torf (www.adriennetorf.com)

What if boldness isn't about being loud, but lasting? This message dives into how faith that endures the fire produces wisdom in trials, humility in success, repentance in failure, and integrity in the unseen. True boldness isn't loud confidence, it's faithful endurance. When life breaks you down, God is building something stronger, a faith that stands in the fire.

What do we do when our business feels broken? In this episode, we share practical ways we as pet sitters and dog walkers can turn setbacks—client complaints, burnout, or sudden revenue dips—into lessons that build resilience. We outline three pillars: extract one lesson from each setback, lean on a support network, and redefine success on our own terms. By scheduling true rest, strengthening policies, and setting aside emergency funds, we can recover with intention. Ultimately, healing is a process, and where we're “broken” can become the strongest part of our business. Main topics: Lessons from business setbacks Scheduling rest and recovery Support networks and vulnerability Tightening policies and finances Redefining success and goals Main takeaway: “Resiliency is really just accumulated recovery.” In pet care, we all face breaks—missed expectations, tough feedback, burnout, or a client who suddenly moves. The win isn't never breaking; it's choosing one lesson, taking one step, and stacking those wins over time. Build white space into your schedule, ask for help before the crisis, and firm up the policies that keep you safe. Keep a resilience journal to track each small comeback—because those layers of recovery become your strongest foundation Links: Check out our Starter Packs See all of our discounts!

God does not waste our brokenness—in fact, He weaves it into something beautiful. For Christian parents facing heartache, disability, or shattered expectations, this truth is not only comforting—it is transformative. In this powerful “Best Of” episode, host Catherine shares one of her most beloved interviews with Andy Howard, author of When Words Don’t Come Easy and father to a daughter with profound special needs. Together, they wrestle with the question: How does God bring beauty from the most broken parts of our lives? Andy recounts his family’s journey after their daughter Peyton’s diagnosis—her lifelong inability to walk or speak, and the deep despair that followed. Yet, through a moving moment on a beach, God showed Andy that He cherishes the broken as much as the whole. Peyton’s life, though different from what he imagined, has become a source of profound joy, purpose, and testimony, touching more lives than Andy ever expected. Catherine and Andy also discuss critically needed ways Christians can support families with special needs: by offering acknowledgment, compassion, and connection—treating every child and parent with the dignity and attention they deserve. Key Insights and Takeaways: The Beauty in Brokenness – God often reframes what the world calls “broken”; Peyton’s life exemplifies beauty, purpose, and joy, reminding us that divine value supersedes worldly milestones. A Call to Compassion – Andy offers practical advice for supporting special needs families: acknowledge them, approach them, and affirm the dignity and purpose of every child. A simple greeting or act of kindness can mean the world. Strength for the Journey – For parents wondering if they are “strong enough,” Andy reiterates that it’s not about innate strength, but about building on the foundation of Christ. “Keep your foundation on God, on Christ. No matter what comes your way, you can do it. You really can with His help.” Perspective and Purpose – While Andy once prayed for a viral miracle, God had a different plan. Today, Peyton’s quiet witness and Andy’s message of hope encourage families across the globe. About Andy Howard:For over 20 years, Andy Howard has served in ministry as a youth pastor and marriage ministry pastor. A passionate advocate for mental health awareness, Andy has personally walked through the valley of depression—at one point tipping the scales at 345 lbs. as he tried to cope with family trauma through food. But God had more in store. Together with his wife Tiffany, Andy has lost over 350 lbs. combined and co-founded a transformational health coaching business called Taking Back My Life, helping thousands reclaim physical and emotional wellness. Andy is the host of the When Words Don’t Come Easy podcast and author of a book by the same name. He lives in Bryan, Texas with Tiffany and their three beautiful daughters: Payton, Parker, and Presley. Welcome back to Unexpected with Hannah Love!Today I'm joined by my sweet friend, Meshali Mitchell — photographer, author, and powerful voice for healing and restoration.
What does it really mean to live from a place of wholeness? How do we seek healing? How do we know when we are operating out of a pain cycle— what does it look like to find the root, do the deep work, and let God restore us from the inside out?In this convo, my DEAR friend, Meshali Mitchell, digs into the process the Lord has taken her through— both in her own soul and literally as she restores a farmhouse that has now become her home. The truth is, if you want to experience love of any kind, you will have to risk rejection, hurt, and the pain that comes from being loved by imperfect people. As Meshali walks through her own personal healing process in her new book, “Restored: Partnering with God in Transforming our Broken Places”, she offers such deep practical insight that will meet you right where you are. And the way Meshali dives into scripture and helps you apply the Word of God is unparalleled — I'm so grateful for this conversation and this book!Life will be the continual process of healing until we become fully restored in Heaven. But until then? We get to partner with God as He breathes fresh wind and true healing to the deepest parts of our soul.Buy Meshali's new book here: https://amzn.to/42Her2pFind Meshali on Instagram @Meshali Learn more about Meshali, her photography, her story, and her offerings here: https://www.meshali.co
Share with us what you think about UncommonTEEN! I do read your fanmail, but can't message you back! Chat with me at UncommonTEEN.com!Growing up, I believed so many lies from the enemy. Lies that I was a nobody. That I was worthless. That I was unlovable. That nobody cared about me. I was a reject. I hated everything about myself. I absolutely hated being alone, because that's when all of these thoughts would come at me the strongest. When I was 17 and gave my life to Jesus, I wish I could say that all of those thoughts went away, but they didn't. I still struggled a lot. I remember thinking as a new Christian that I was broken beyond repair. I used to ask myself, “Why am I like this?” Why can't I make friends… I don't just mean those people you say hi to here and there, but those close friends who are there for you no matter what. I don't want to be alone anymore. Why can't I be different? What's wrong with me?”I'm just thankful that at this point in my life, I was crying out to God as I was asking these questions. My heart-cry at this time was, “God change me. Show me what I need to do and I will do it!”What I didn't realize back then was after giving my life to Jesus, I had the power on the inside of me to watch those dead areas of my life come to life. I had the power on the inside of me to heal those broken places. I had the power on the inside of me to get rid of the loneliness. That power is the resurrection power that Jesus gave to us after He died on the cross and rose again from the grave. How? How does the resurrection power work in our lives? Listen to what Abraham did in Romans 4.Romans 4:17-21-“As it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness[Ladies, we have some exciting news!
