What does it really mean to live from a place of wholeness? How do we seek healing? How do we know when we are operating out of a pain cycle— what does it look like to find the root, do the deep work, and let God restore us from the inside out?In this convo, my DEAR friend, Meshali Mitchell, digs into the process the Lord has taken her through— both in her own soul and literally as she restores a farmhouse that has now become her home. The truth is, if you want to experience love of any kind, you will have to risk rejection, hurt, and the pain that comes from being loved by imperfect people. As Meshali walks through her own personal healing process in her new book, “Restored: Partnering with God in Transforming our Broken Places”, she offers such deep practical insight that will meet you right where you are. And the way Meshali dives into scripture and helps you apply the Word of God is unparalleled — I'm so grateful for this conversation and this book!Life will be the continual process of healing until we become fully restored in Heaven. But until then? We get to partner with God as He breathes fresh wind and true healing to the deepest parts of our soul.Buy Meshali's new book here: https://amzn.to/42Her2pFind Meshali on Instagram @Meshali Learn more about Meshali, her photography, her story, and her offerings here: https://www.meshali.co
Share with us what you think about UncommonTEEN! I do read your fanmail, but can't message you back! Chat with me at UncommonTEEN.com!Growing up, I believed so many lies from the enemy. Lies that I was a nobody. That I was worthless. That I was unlovable. That nobody cared about me. I was a reject. I hated everything about myself. I absolutely hated being alone, because that's when all of these thoughts would come at me the strongest. When I was 17 and gave my life to Jesus, I wish I could say that all of those thoughts went away, but they didn't. I still struggled a lot. I remember thinking as a new Christian that I was broken beyond repair. I used to ask myself, “Why am I like this?” Why can't I make friends… I don't just mean those people you say hi to here and there, but those close friends who are there for you no matter what. I don't want to be alone anymore. Why can't I be different? What's wrong with me?”I'm just thankful that at this point in my life, I was crying out to God as I was asking these questions. My heart-cry at this time was, “God change me. Show me what I need to do and I will do it!”What I didn't realize back then was after giving my life to Jesus, I had the power on the inside of me to watch those dead areas of my life come to life. I had the power on the inside of me to heal those broken places. I had the power on the inside of me to get rid of the loneliness. That power is the resurrection power that Jesus gave to us after He died on the cross and rose again from the grave. How? How does the resurrection power work in our lives? Listen to what Abraham did in Romans 4.Romans 4:17-21-“As it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness[Ladies, we have some exciting news! Every one of us has broken places inside. Places in our souls where the dust gathers or the wind whistles through. Every one of us needs restoration. Photographer and portrait artist Meshali Mitchell is no different. Though, in her case, she also had a farmhouse to restore to its former glory. In this episode of the She Lives Fearless Podcast, Hosts Holly Newton and Dina Deleasa-Gonsar are having a conversation with Meshali, discussing her restoration journey and her book releasing this April! In a world where Pinterest-perfect homes flood our social media feeds, Meshali Mitchell offers a radically different perspective in her new book Restored (Revell, April 2025). As both a professional photographer and portrait artist whose work has appeared in People Magazine, West Elm, and the Today Show, Meshali has an eye for beauty. But her journey of restoring an old farmhouse became about much more than aesthetics – it became a powerful metaphor for how God restores our souls.Tune in and be deeply encouraged by Meshali's story of allowing God into every room of her heart while simultaneously renovating her home. With vulnerability and wisdom, she shares how the Lord drew her out from behind the camera to embrace His healing work in her life. She began her career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, counseling patients in a large outpatient clinicDuring the next 29 years, which included several family relocations, Lori continued to weave projects, volunteerism, and contract work centering around nutrition and wellness into her life, all while raising four children. She led Trim Within™, an adult weight loss program while counseling in a Lipid Clinic. Show Notes Our guest today is psychologist and spiritual director Dr Marshall Jenkins. Marshall and I have been chatting off and on for a couple of months now. I found a blog post of his online and fell in love with his thoughts and approach to living a successful life in the terms of the realm of love. In fact, Marshall says that love can only be discovered in the process of doing it. I am intrigued. Let's see what Marshal has to say about that as we dive deep into a meaningful conversation. There's a tug of war between good and evil happening within each of our hearts; so how do you win? In this message, Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt encourages us that the war within our souls cannot be won by our own strength, but only by the strength of the Holy Spirit in each and every one of us! In season two of At the Podium, the power of speaking and owning your truth came up in all the interviews of the show. As I asked each remarkable guest about their journeys to finding their own voices and what they wanted to say with the immense platforms they had, they all expressed the need to use their voices to help others, but also to speak truth over their own lives and lived experiences. Perhaps because we live in a time when the truth, when facts, when basic humanity are under threat, the ability to speak and own your truth becomes the ultimate commodity. What a privilege it is for us to speak our truths as a function of our humanity. It is a gift more precious than gold, because for so many of my guests, speaking the truth was the light that led the way to healing the broken places of their lives. And as they spoke their truths, the chains of shame, guilt, regrets fell away. When those stumbling blocks fall, reconciliation can begin. Acceptance can begin. Grace and forgiveness find a home. What a humbling and affirming experience it was for me to sit in fellowship with the incredible people who honored me, honored us with their time, their hearts, and their wisdom. At the Podium WebsiteAt the Podium on IGPatrick on IGFor more information contact Patrick at patrick@patrickhueyleadership.com
Join Joree and I in our new monthly Master Class series on Relationships: https://joreerose.com/theawaremethodmasterclass/And join us in Costa Rica Sept 28-Oct. 5, 2024: https://joreerose.com/retreats/costa-rica/In this joint episode with my partner Joree Rose, LMFT,, we talk with esteemed therapists, Charlie and Linda Bloom, who were an integral part of our healing after our breakup. Married for over 54 years, they have been doing joint couples work for over 40 years, leading workshops and courses all over the world, and are the authors of 5 books; the most recent is An End To Arguing, which we talk about in this episode. Charlie and Linda share valuable, insightful and practical tools for how couples can work towards and maintain a strong relationship, despite hardships, of which they have survived many. Beginning with a shared value of being lifelong learners, they have always taken the time for personal growth which has served as the foundation for their relationship, as they've always been inspired to aim higher. In this episode we talk about the 3 words you should never say to your partner in an argument, how you can have a breakdown become a breakthrough instead of a breakup, and how relationships are spiritual practices. When you can self-reflect and take responsibility for your emotions and experience, reveal with vulnerability what you are feeling rather than conceal it, and continue to communicate until you are feeling complete after an argument, then you can truly reside in the safety of a secure relationship. If you are someone who is interested in building an extraordinary relationship, then this episode is for you.Find out more about two upcoming relationship classes taught by Charlie and Linda!Esalen workshop from May 24-26. Part 3 Stronger at the broken places
Johnson suggests by opening to the possibility of wonder from surprising sources, we recognize that, even in the bleakest of times, beauty is possible. Although that beauty can't permanently replace our losses, our sorrow, and the dire problems we're facing, it can break through the walls of powerlessness and melt despair. Trebbe Johnson is the founder and director of the global community Radical Joy for Hard Times, and she's devoted to finding and making beauty in hurt places. She has camped alone in the Arctic wilderness; studied classical Indian dance; worked as an artist's model, has been a street sweeper in an English village, and is an award-winning multimedia producer. She's led wilderness rites of passage and contemplative journeys in clear-cut forests, Ground Zero in New York, in EPA's toxic Superfund sites, the Sahara Desert, and other places. She participates in Global Earth Exchange—bringing people around the world together to go to places they care about that have been damaged or endangered: share stores, listen to the land, and make a simple gift of beauty for the place out of materials the place itself offers. She is the author of several books including Radical Joy for Hard Times: Finding Meaning and Making Beauty in Earth's Broken Places. (North Atlantic Books 2018) and Fierce Consciousness: Surviving the Sorrows of Earth and Self (Calliope Books, 2023).Interview Date: 10/6/2023 Tags: Trebbe Johnson, Michael Meade, The Woman in the Cave, Dylan Thomas, green fuse, grief, beauty, Kim Stanley Robinson, Ministry Of The Future, disbelieving, disbelief, Halaco Plant, hurt places, superfund places, Global Earth Exchange, Personal Transformation, Health & Healing, Ecology/Nature/Environment

There is a question that many Christian parents never ask God. Catherine and her husband didn't ask God this question for the first two decades of their marriage, despite attending church weekly, tithing, going so small groups, and having daily devotionals. That question is: WHAT DOES GOD WANT MY FAMILY TO LOOK LIKE? We often seek God about where we should work, live, and go to church, what school our kids should attend, and how to raise our children—but many parents never ask God how many kids they should have, adopt, or foster. Why is that? In this episode, Catherine explores this topic and then allows listeners to be a fly on the wall of her post-interview conversation with Kirsten Vossler, a mother of nine (soon to be ten). They discuss how the church has been subtly influenced by the world's perspective on parenting and children. If Jesus is to truly be Lord of our lives, that means He must be Lord of our families. That doesn't mean we have to crank out as many babies as possible in our child-bearing years, but it does mean we should seek God's plan over our personal preference. Kirsten Vossler's Bio: Kirsten is a mother of 9, yes you heard that right—9 kiddos. She has been a Children's pastor, a worship leader, a writer, a conference speaker, and now she is host of the Rejoicing in Motherhood Podcast. Any of us can get stuck in our struggle. Jesus came to set us free and give us life--abundant life--but we continue in our old ways, living as one with no hope because we're afraid of failing if we try to get better. John McCain's life of service is an example always. Especially around 9/11. And given the state of the world, America, and our politics, we miss him now more than ever. He showed us that after tragedy there can be triumph. McCain showed us how to be, as Hemingway described, “Stronger at the broken places”. But some things break beyond repair. And that might be the case now for the GOP. As it continues to disintegrate, falling further and further away from the party of McCain. And the party of Colin Powell. And the party of Bob Dole. And the Party of Mitt Romney, who this week announced is not running for Senate again. Everything is different now. And every 9/11 is different. And 9/11/2023 was no exception. Lots of people still say never forget. But others, far too many in power, they did forget. Your host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) was there to remind us all on 9/11: “Today is a day about coming back after adversity and becoming stronger in the broken places. NYC did it. The Pentagon did it. America did it. Rodgers will too.” Every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories–and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. The battle of healing from the past can be a long and difficult journey. Guilt, shame, embarrassment, pain, and hardship can deter us from finding the help, hope, and healing we ultimately desire and deserve. Thankfully today, we get the opportunity glean from both the wisdom and experience of our guest who is no stranger to understanding how difficult it can be to look at your brokenness, heal, and move forward. Our guest today is a renowned licensed therapist, speaker, and now author, Jason VanRuler. Jason joins us today to unpack his new book that will be releasing October 10th titled, Get Past Your Past: How Facing Your Broken Places Leads to True Connection. In and throughout the pages of this book as well during our conversation today Jason invites us to address our past pain and hurt to fully embrace love and connection. We are taking a break this summer (not a vacation!) to produce new stories, so we are sharing some of our favorite episodes while we're working. This episode was first broadcast in 2018 and is one of our all-time favorites. The Achilli siblings would like you to know that if there was a Dead Parent Contest (there's not), they would win the gold medal. In 2008, their dad was murdered by a hitman in a dispute over a girlfriend. Four years after their father's killers are tried and convicted, their mom dies after driving her car off a cliff. This is a story about being orphaned as young adults and the family ties that keep siblings together. — Listener support makes our independent podcast possible.
