Sometimes, Jemma and Marina feel like they're having a fever dream. First they're agreeing with Dan Hodges from The Mail, then Trump is confusing transgenic mice with transgender mice. Furthermore, upon being told his error, rather than burying himself under a duvet so he can hide due to abject mortification, he's doubling down. Still, it's not like this person is in charge of the US or anything. Oh.......The latest Trump week from hell has been a biggie, he's making another bid for Greenland, apropos of just...wanting it. He's really getting on Canada's nerves and more worryingly, he's causing Russia to get away with accusing the UK of being the 'main instigator' of global conflict, including the Second World War. This seems interesting to Marina and Jemma who had thought we were all agreed that that was started by the bloke who invaded Poland. Decision after heinous Trump decision makes it a pretty surreal Trawl. For instance, wanting to send Ukrainian refugees back when you've just made their country even more dangerous feels pretty low. Jemma can't handle it and needs to inject some levity with her new favourite clip. Marina's vaguely amused, but only vaguely. Still, with so much going on, it feels important to reserve some sympathy for the presenter of Pointless, Alexander Armstrong, who has been moaning to The Telegraph about VAT on private school fees while wearing a cravat.Pudding is by the genius Randy RainbowThank you for sharing and do tweet us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcastPatreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcastYoutubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawlTwitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastBlueSkyhttps://bsky.app/profile/thetrawl.bsky.socialCreated and Produced by Jemma Forte & Marina PurkissEdited by Max Carrey
I enjoyed sitting down with Dan Hodges from Bridge Farm in today's episode. Our conversation kicked off with an intriguing look into his ambitions for Highland Mushrooms, and a thrilling journey through his extensive experiences from military flight instruction to apple cultivation in Arizona. Dan's story of buying a 150-acre farm in North Carolina and transforming it into a multifaceted agricultural haven is inspiring. Dan Hodges has an impressive background that ranges from finance to flying F16s for the military as an instructor. His journey into agriculture began in Arizona, where he planted vineyards in an attempt to create fine wines. This eventually led him and his family east to the lush landscapes of North Carolina. At Bridge Farm, Dan is leading efforts in diverse offerings, including mushroom cultivation, cider production, and even truffle cultivation. His forward-thinking approach lays the foundation for a comprehensive craft venture that harmonizes nature's offerings. "What you're basically building is a booze playground with sandwiches." ~ Puff Today on Consuming the Craft:· Bridge Farm's mushroom operation aims to produce 90 tons a month, establishing itself as a major player in the exotic mushroom market.· Dan's journey from military to agriculture highlights his visionary leap into farming.· Bridge Farm plans to support a cidery, distillery, and mushroom cultivation under its extensive agricultural model.· The farm is designed to be a destination location featuring hiking, mountain biking, and family-friendly activities.· Truffle cultivation is part of the farm's diversified agriculture strategy, potentially leading to the largest truffle production in North America.· Dan collaborates with renowned experts to maximize the efficiency and quality of each agricultural venture on the farm.· Double-sided operations are enhanced through on-site cidery, winery, and distillery production facilities.· Including an educational center at Highland Mushrooms offers visitors firsthand insights into mushroom farming.Contact Dan:Bridge FarmThis episode is brought to you by… McConnell Farms - Taste the Way You Remember. Vegalogue is a regular podcast from vegetable, potato and onion industry peak body AUSVEG, where we examine the pressing issues and latest developments in our sector.Historically, Australian producers have been rapid adopters of new technology and innovation, and the current generation is no different. Growers are looking to new agricultural technologies, or agtech for short, to help them confront the pressure from climate change, labour shortages, rising input costs and changing market demands. The technologies being explored read like a list of TED Talks keywords; artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, drones, big data, the internet of things…Understanding, sourcing and trialling these new technologies can be time consuming and costly, however, so in 2024 Hort Innovation launched a $4.1 million levy-funded project to help Australian vegetable growers adopt advanced mechanisation technology.Run by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries over three years, the project will deliver field days, showcase events, demonstrations, international study tours, webinars and more to help growers engage directly with the latest equipment and manufacturers. In October 2024, the project took a group of 16 vegetable growers on a study tour to the US, where they attended the FIRA-USA International Forum for Agricultural Robotics in California. One of those growers was Dan Hodges from Peninsula Fresh Organics in Victoria. Dan's an enthusiastic adopter of new tech on the grower's two properties on the Mornington Peninsula, and we spoke to him about the promising agtech he saw in the US, and the potential for applying in Australia.Learn more about the project discussed in this episode: Advanced vegetable mechanisation program to maximise labour and cost efficiency (VG23003)Thanks for listening to Vegalogue! This month, The Trawl met someone you might not expect us to... Someone who certainly bucks the trend of people we've spoken with thus far, because it's a person, who you could argue, finds themselves on the other side of the debate more often than not. Even if you don't know of Hodges himself, you'll definitely know who he works for - The Mail, or as Jemma and Marina tend to refer to it - "one of those Tory right-wing sh*trags". At time of record, Braverman has just been sacked following the remembrance day riot at the cenotaph, which one could argue was almost sponsored by the papers Hodges is associated with. Needless to say, the ladies quiz him on this and how someone with such a well-known, anti-Tory, Labour MP mother, could end up working where he has. Disagreements ensue, from the pro-Palestine and pro-ceasefire marches to who it is that really chooses our leaders: the electorate or the press barons? Jemma asks whether Dan cares about the non-dom nature of his big boss and if ever he and his colleagues turn up to work and despair at the bilge they're paid to write. Prepare to be shocked by Dan's verdict on the Tory VIP PPE lane, and to be not shocked at all by his thoughts on the revolving door between press and politics - after all, what would you expect from the man once referred to in The Spectator as David Cameron's "new favorite columnist? An interesting chat, somewhat baffling and, at times, a lot like nailing jelly to a wall. Has the idea of biblical inerrancy gone out of style? In today's modern church we've seen far too many professing Christians and even pastors struggle with biblical illiteracy, some choosing to abandon the biblical worldview altogether. As hostility towards the Christian faith continues to grow and commitment to the Gospel continues to decline, how can true followers of Christ equip themselves to learn, live out, and defend the truth of Christianity? In this midweek podcast episode, Dan Hodges, Executive Director of CrossExamined, sits down with Dr. Ben Shaw, president of Core Apologetics, to talk about Ben's faith journey and how his love for Jesus, evangelism, (and hockey of all things!) led him to a career and ministry in New Testament scholarship, working alongside the world-renowned resurrection scholar, Gary Habermas. What is the mission of Core Apologetics and how has Gary Habermas' lifelong research impacted this much needed ministry? How do you live out a biblical worldview if you're in a career like medicine or law enforcement? All this and more will be discussed in this special follow-up conversation with Dr. Ben Shaw! To view the entire VIDEO PODCAST be sure to join our CrossExamined private community. In this week's 'News Roundtable' episode, host Chris Wright is joined by writer and broadcaster, Christina Patterson, founder of Scientists4EU and presenter of Byline TV, Dr Mike Galsworthy, and broadcaster and journalist, Dan Hodges. The conversation kicks off with the panel debating the need for the House of Lords following the latest updates of Baroness Mone's PPE scandal – is it outdated, or is there a viable alternative? They argue the pros and cons of the institution and debate Gordon Brown's suggestion of a regional elected chamber which may curb dominating it with access to people who are able to donate large sums of money.Together, they discuss Matt Hancock's role in awarding PPE sourcing contracts during his time as Health Secretary, especially his nomination of his local pub landlord, who was awarded a PPE contract despite his evident lack of experience. They share their stances on the prospect of a public inquiry into COVID PPE contracts. The panel talk through the announcements of Matt Hancock and Sajid Javid stepping down at the next election, predicting that a lot more Conservative MPs are likely to follow suit. Are they genuinely changing careers, or are they simply afraid of losing their seats? Happy New Year! To round off this bizarre year of snitch tagging, simping and surveillance, we talk about (some of) the top discourses of 2020, with our friend (and person we sort of coerced onto the pod) online hero Brandy Jensen (@BrandyLJensen). ----more----In this episode, we talk about Dan Hodges somehow getting a gun, and we go over some 2020 favourites, including whether Necrophillia / Incest is technically wrong, whether you should be cancelled for talking shit about worms online, and whether wanting a Himbo boyfriend who makes you great dinners is, in fact, violence. There are frequent returns to the ultimate patron of the show, Lord Bafomet. ----more----Thank you all for listening to our dumb pod show this year! It was born out of a weird lockdown fever dream, and it's amazing to see how much people can and have resonated with the pod, and the culture of posting by and large. Please do get in touch if you have any ideas of posts we should talk about, or if there's anything you've seen or read that's interesting enough to break our brains. Looking forward to posting more in 2021!----more----@HKesvani@Phoebe_Rosa_Holly@10kpostspod

After yet another mass shooting, this time in Virginia Beach where 12 people were killed, many of us had the same painful reactions of grief for the families, fear that this could happen to someone I love one day, anger at the gun manufacturers whose influence through the NRA makes them complicit in both the mass shootings and the daily epidemic of gun violence. As a parent, I'm heartsick and angry that our society now traumatizes even our youngest children by making them do active shooter drills at school. I've written about all of this many times before given the terrifying frequency of mass and daily shootings in the U.S. and the scale of the overall gun violence epidemic.I think it's impossible to tell the story of this movement's progress without looking at the impact of Sandy Hook where 20 6- and 7-year-old elementary school children and six adults were murdered. An oft-circulated 2015 tweet from political pundit Dan Hodges lamented, “In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”But in many ways the reverse is true. Many parents of children lost at Sandy Hook rose up and came together with other gun violence victims' fathers and mothers — and have dedicated the rest of their lives to the gun safety movement — precisely because Sandy Hook was unbearable to them. The enormous traction, energy, and funding they've gotten to expand that work and make steady progress is due in no small part to the fact that the senseless killing of children has become unacceptable to a whole generation of parents. I don't believe that senseless, stupid, murderous gun violence will ultimately be accepted as normal. Rather, a new generation of parents, a new insistence for change from coming-of-age voters, and a new network of urban activists committed to making their neighborhoods safe for black and brown bodies will ultimately prevail. That must be our hope and our commitment.

ALANNAH MCCREADY recently released her debut EP Love Hangover produced by award-winning Nashville publisher Dan Hodges and renowned Los Angeles based producer John Fields. Alannah began singing, appropriately, in cowboy boots and hat. But it wasn’t in Nashville, at the Ryman Auditorium. It was north of Minneapolis in the ex-urban flatlands of Blaine, Minnesota where she stood atop the back of a corduroy couch in 1991 as a four year old, in a ninja turtle costume and ice skates and announced the beginning of her singing career. In 2010, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison but not before winning two National Division 1 Championships as a goalie for the Badgers. She lived in NYC for a few years after college, working in the sports marketing world, until she fatefully heard Nashville beckoning. So while music has a big part of her heart, hockey has a special place in it too “Hockey has been a part of my entire family growing up and it brought me to a million different places. My brother and I were always around it, often spending summers training in Toronto and flying every which way for games. I think almost every person on the McCready side has strapped on the skates at least a hundred times in their lives. It’s the Scandinavian blood.”
On Monday night the Tories pulled ahead of Labour in the polls for the first time in two years. Constantly banging on about the cost of living crisis and renationalising public services don't resonate with the British public as much as a growing economy, it seems. Last week, Ed Miliband boasted about his superior "intellectual self-confidence", but as Benedict Brogan asked on his blog, is the Labour leader simply oblivious to the perilous situation he's in? And what about next week's European elections? Once trailed as the moment that David Cameron would lose control of his party, could a poor showing for Labour turn out to be the final nail in Mr Miliband's coffin? Is it over for Labour? Has Ed got it wrong? Or is this all a temporary blip? This week, Tim will talk about the future of socialism with our Labour specialist Dan Hodges, the Telegraph's political guru Benedict Brogan and the editor of the Spectator, Fraser Nelson.
In this week's Telegram Lord Tebbit and Tom Chivers debate the moral and practical realities of allowing an individual to decide when their life should end. Lord Tebbit foresees an explosion of financially motivated "suicides", while Tom Chivers insists that with the right safeguards, people should be allowed to die with dignity. Also: Ed Miliband's euro gamble. Dan Hodges and John McTernan argue whether it's Labour or the Tories who are now confused about Europe.
We are joined this week by Dan Hodges, David Skelton and Benedict Brogan
Dan Hodges and Sunny Hundal join us to discuss Tommy Robinson's resignation.
In this week's Telegram, Benedict Brogan and Dan Hodges discuss Ed's doomed attempts to reform the Labour Party.
This week's Telegram is a highly charged debate about America and security. Tim Stanley says the information released by Edward Snowden shows an Obama administration exercising "weird and creepy" control over its citizens. Dan Hodges says the libertarian Left and Right are in an "unholy alliance", trying to scare voters about legitimate security measures. Also, former Republican Senator Jim DeMint of the Heritage Foundation calls for the return of small-government conservatism to American discourse – the only way, he insists, that the GOP can hope to dislodge the Democrats from the White House.
"Hourly, farce is piled upon farce," wrote Iain Martin on his Telegraph blog this week as the Tory tribe panicked over Europe. In this week's Telegram, Iain argues that Cameron may have been fatally wounded – but Labour commentator Dan Hodges disagrees. Also, as IRS and Benghazi scandals engulf Barack Obama, columnist Con Coughlin says the sheer nastiness of this US administration is only now beginning to emerge.
Do Ukip supporters hate Dave so much that they're willing to put Ed Miliband in power? Iain Martin says they do – and it could well happen. Dan Hodges strongly disagrees. Also in this week's Telegram: Con Coughlin on young Winston Churchill's Afghan campaign and the uncanny similarities between Pashtun resistance then and now.
This week, Charles Moore and Damian Thompson remember the posh bigots who despised Mrs Thatcher, and Peter Oborne and Dan Hodges discuss Tony Blair's 'revenge' on Ed Miliband
