In this podcast Vic speaks with Martin Pusic, Bill Cutrer, and Elissa Hall about their article “Educating for Adaptive Expertise: Case Examples Along the Medical Education Continuum.” What do we mean by adaptive expertise? Our discussion starts with some definitions and examples, including: Routine procedural approaches, plus creative innovative ones, when the situation calls for it.” This capacity is critical in a healthcare environment brimming with complexity. How do we educate for adaptive expertise? Our guests suggested 4 instructional strategies, including: Developing deep conceptual understanding, exposure to meaningful variation, emphasis on productive struggle and discovery, and metacognitive strategizing. They drew upon the Master Adaptive Learner conceptual model. We worked through the practicalities of this kind of education in the undergraduate, postgraduate (Emergency Medicine) and continuing professional development educational contexts. This is not easy! Our guests explained how they have worked through various barriers and constraints to realize the opportunities for fostering adaptive expertise in our healthcare professionals. Happy listening!

In part 2 of this episode, host Jared Bradley continues to interview Eddie Cutrer, father of murder victim Angela Strussion. They continue to discuss the circumstances surrounding the murder, the investigation, and the progress made in the case. Crime remains an unsolved mystery in many cases, even after years of investigation. This is the unfortunate reality for the family of Tom and Angela Strussion, who were murdered in their own home in Belmont County, Ohio, over a year and a half ago. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the family's own investigation, the perpetrators remain unknown. The Strussion were found dead in their home, having been shot and the house set on fire. The family believes that Tom's habit of carrying large sums of money with him may have been a factor in the crime, as it is possible that the perpetrators were aware of this and sought to take advantage of it. However, this is only speculation, as no concrete evidence has been found to support this theory.Eddie and the family have gone to great lengths to try to find answers, including billboards with Crime Stoppers, podcasts, and other forms of outreach. Unfortunately, these efforts have not yielded any leads, with only eight calls on the Crime Stoppers billboards. The Strussion's case is a stark reminder of how difficult it can be to solve a crime, even with the best intentions. It is a reminder that we must always remain vigilant and do our best to help law enforcement bring criminals to justice. We must also remember the victims and their families, and do our best to support them in their search for answers.Note: Listeners are encouraged to come forward with any information they have that may help solve the case.TakeawaysTragedy can strike at any time.Enjoy your loved ones while you can.You never stop being a parent.ConnectEddie Cutrer: eddiecutrer@mac.comJared Bradley: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaredvbradley/DNA Retrieval: https://www.m-vac.com/ResourcesJohn Lynch (2022, Sept. 21). ‘Belmont County officials provide update on double murder of Salsa Joe's owner'. In this episode of All Things Crime, host Jared Bradley interviews Eddie Cutrer, the parent of a homicide victim whose case remains unsolved. Eddie shares memories of his daughter and son-in-law, talks about their case, and highlights the challenges of dealing with the loss of a loved one. Through this emotional and touching interview, listeners gain insight into how families cope with the aftermath of violent crime and the importance of bringing justice to victims and their loved ones.DNA evidence is a powerful tool in the fight against crime. It can provide investigators with the ability to identify suspects, link crimes to individuals, and even exonerate those who have been wrongfully accused. When it comes to solving crimes, DNA evidence can be invaluable. In the case of Eddie Cutrer, his daughter and son-in-law were murdered in 2021. Despite the fact that their case is still unsolved, DNA evidence was able to provide some clues. After the M-VAC system was used to collect DNA from a doorknob, investigators were able to determine that there was not enough DNA to create a full profile. However, the DNA that was collected was enough to provide investigators with leads that could potentially help them solve the case.DNA evidence can also be used to exonerate individuals who have been wrongfully convicted. In many cases, DNA evidence has been used to overturn convictions and free innocent people from prison. In some cases, DNA evidence has been the only way to prove that a person was wrongfully convicted. In conclusion, DNA evidence can be an invaluable tool in the fight against crime. It can provide investigators with the ability to identify suspects, link crimes to individuals, and even exonerate those who have been wrongfully accused.
