It's time for a show that begs the question are we not ALL simply women of a certain age? We're flying into Palm Springs airport today to visit our Gay Golden Girls, and triumphant return of the multicam with Mid Century Modern! It's got all the staples of a true classic Multicam sitcom: A theme song, firm scene breaks, a big dumb dumb and EXPOSITION BABYYYY! Not to mention an absolute rockstar production, writing, and acting team with the return of our champion Jimmy Burrows (Cheers, Mary Tyler Moore, Friends, Will & Grace, Taxi, Frasier and more) but also Max Mutchnik and David Kohan the creators of Will & Grace. The squad behind this is so talented we put Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham and freaking NATHAN LANE after? Beautiful. After a challenge from guest host J. W. Crump to deep dive this show and make sure our straight boy brains didn't explode, how do you think we did?To watch Mid Century Modern along with us, it is available on Hulu.HostsGeoff KerbisMax SingerRich Inman

Will & Grace co-creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are back with a throwback multi-cam sitcom that isn't Gay Golden Girls, but isn't NOT Gay Golden Girls. Would we travel down the road and back again for more? Joe Reid joins us to talk about it. Around The Dial takes us through Last One Laughing UK, Shrinking, Adolescence, The Pitt, and Gone Girls. Joe pitches the Simpsons episode "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious" for induction into the Nonac. Then, after naming the week's Winner and Loser, it's on to a Game Time that's more hard work than usual. Put down the cottage cheese and listen! GUESTS
A gay Golden Girls? Say more! While Hulu's new show Mid-Century Modern is not the Golden Girls, it certainly gives you the nostalgia love bug for the Golden Girls. Because of that, we asked the show's stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham which Golden Girl they are. We also compared the pilot of the Golden Girls to Mid-Century Modern, because both are brilliant. Listen to H. Alan Scott's full chat with Nathan, Nathan Lee and Matt on Newsweek's Parting Shot. When Will & Grace premiered on NBC in 1998, it was groundbreaking because of the sheer lack of queer representation on network TV. Since then, numerous sitcoms have increased LGBTQ+ visibility on TV, but rarely gay characters of an older generation. To fill that void, those same Will & Grace creators, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, developed Hulu's Mid-Century Modern to show that while a multi-camera sitcom with three gay male leads is rare, the stories they are telling are universal. Led by Nathan Lane's Bunny Schneiderman, Mid-Century Modern finds undergarment tycoon Bunny inviting his two best friends—Jerry (played by Matt Bomer) and Arthur (played by Nathan Lee Graham)—to move in with him and his mother, Sybil (played by Linda Lavin). It is after the passing of one of their mutual friends that Bunny opens up his Palm Springs home. Newsweek's H. Alan Scott chats with Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham about Mid-Century Modern, how it came about, and why it's so important right now. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all of your favorite fictional universes. The Merc with the Mouth and Logan have officially taken the title of highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, with Deadpool & Wolverine barely edging out 2019's Joker from that honor. As of this recording, the MCU romp has accumulated $1.14 billion. And while that's a tough ticket to beat, other late summer movies are tracking for big openings as well with Alien: Romulus debuting globally at more than $180 million and Tim Burton's sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, eyeing a potential $80 million opening - which would make it the biggest September opening of all time. Lucasfilm announced Tuesday that this year's new show The Acolyte will not receive a second season. The show was incredibly divisive among fans, though critically was well-received. Showrunner Leslye Headland had pitched ideas for a second season, but those will not come to fruition now. Sony Pictures released an extended look at their upcoming Spider-Man villain movie, Kraven the Hunter. The movie releases December 13 and has a star-studded cast featuring Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the Titular role,. The new promo provided a slightly longer look at the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola. It's the story that dominated the Marvel fandom last week - when Beau DeMayo claimed his credit will be removed from season two because he shared fan art for Gay Pride in June. DeMayo cited this as quote “...the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while working on #XMen97 and #Blade.” Marvel quickly released a statement, responding to DeMayo's claim that it was his behavior, called “egregious” in the statement, which was the cause of his loss of credit as well as his termination. Sources following these statements claimed that an agreement had been reached regarding social media around X-Men'97 and DeMayo breached that contract. Other sources claim DeMayo's termination was due to sexual misconduct, though no internal reviews have surfaced. Camila Mendes, who starred in the CW series Riverdale, will play Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' live-action take on Masters of the Universe and will star opposite Nicholas Galitzine, who is playing the role of He-Man. Marvel Comics announced a Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds one-shot that will bring the character from season two of What If? into comics. Writer-director David O. Russell has cast Nicolas Cage to star in the lead role for Madden, the Amazon MGM Studios drama about the life of NFL coaching and broadcasting legend John Madden. "Will & Grace" creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, with executive producer Ryan Murphy, are bringing Hulu a comedy about chosen family. Starring executive producers Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer as well as Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin, this series follows three gay best friends who, after an unexpected death, decide to embrace their golden years together in sun-soaked Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother. Apple TV+ has renewed Dark Matter, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, for a second season. Derek Connolly, a franchise writer with a resume that includes the Jurassic World movies, has been tapped to write a live-action adaptation of the Sega video game Eternal Champions for Skydance. Puck Magazine's Matt Belloni is reporting that Mattel, who had been shopping a Barbie animated film, has entered talks with Illumination to produce it and Warner Brothers and Greta Gerwig are reportedly “not thrilled” about it. Amazon's Prime Video has canceled My Lady Jane, the period drama which combined romance and alternate-world fantasy. The cancellation comes about seven weeks after Prime Video released all eight episodes of the show's first and now only season.

Will & Grace was the brainchild of the shows co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan who looked to develop a show around the real life friendship of Mutchnick and Janet Eisenberg which had been a bond sonce childhood. The two dated for a while but the romantic chemistry was bever there. Come to find out Max was gay. And after Janet's initial shock from the news the two ended up forming a tight bond as friends because the teo truly did love one another. After some adjustments this premise was adaptef into a sitcom for NBC using Eric McCormack in the role of "Will" and Debra Messing being cast to play "Grace". The show would go on to last 11 seasons and won many awards along the way. But was this show good right from the first episode? Listen in as the S1E1 guys review the show's first episode, "Love and Marriage". www.S1E1POD.com

Did we think the creator of one of the greatest American Sitcoms of all-time would come into the studio and absolutely take us to school in basketball talk? No, but it happened anyway. David Kohan, along with his friend Max, created the long-running hit comedy series Will & Grace. But the Emmy Award winner is also one of the biggest Clippers fans we know, and boy was he excited to preview the upcoming season in Clipperland, one which he believes will be “the year.” Boasting the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and a deep supporting cast, the Clippers are primed for a breakthrough season. Coincidentally, Will & Grace just made a big announcement of its own: the show will be ending after one final season. Following the Clippers discussion, David touches upon that as well as his sister’s stellar TV series, Orange Is the New Black. Some special clips (Clips?) have been excerpted below: 4:15-4:26: “I thought for a second when Chris Paul was joining the team, ‘Well, this is about as good as it’s gonna get as a Clipper fan.’ But I was wrong. This is about as good as it gets.” 7:36-7:43: “Suddenly, it felt like we were frontrunners, and I’ve never felt that way as a Clipper fan before.” 11:40-12:07: “More than anything, If Jerry West is there, I feel like he’s a magician. There’s no greater architect of a team. There’s no one whose imprimatur means more than Jerry West. … His instincts are always right. It’s uncanny to me. So, it’s like, ‘In Jerry we trust,’ right?” 12:55-17:09: “Last year, as a fan, was my favorite year. It was my favorite year, I think, ever, in all the years of being a Clipper season-ticket holder. What Doc [Rivers] did with that group and just the character of that group, I loved that team. I really did. It was such a satisfying season to me. … You really got the sense, unlike years before, they all played for each other, that they genuinely cared about each other, that they enjoyed playing together, and that they were locked in defensively most of the time. … They really did seem to be giving their best effort, not caring who carried the scoring load, everybody had their roles which were clearly defined. There was energy and passion and intensity. … The Lob City teams, there always seemed to be more talent than cohesiveness.” 26:14-28:14: “People talk about the Clippers’ health and the health of their two superstars with Kawhi’s quad and Paul George’s shoulder, but the Lakers, I think, are in a much more perilous situation. … That team doesn’t quite make sense to me as currently composed. They don’t seem balanced.” 30:46-31:46: “Looking back [on Will & Grace’s run], I guess more than anything, [what stands out is] how special it is to work with those four actors, because I actually think they’re the best at what they do. … There’s a whole confluence of things that has to come together in order for something to work. But one of the things that I really appreciated during that gap between the first run and the second run was just how good I had it working with those four actors. I really feel like whatever you write, they elevate it. They make it better than you thought.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

For "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, the NBC revival is a welcome homecoming. They recently sat down with IndieWire's TURN IT ON to discuss the revival (and some of the new ideas they eventually tossed out), how they worked around the tricky series finale by tossing it out, touching on politics in a Trump age -- they have some thoughts about Mike Pence -- and how they feel like it will never get better than this.
David Kohan, best known for co-creating the pioneering hit comedy series “Will & Grace” is actually a huge Los Angeles Clippers fan, attending games at the LA Sports Arena beginning in the late ‘80s. In this episode, Aaron had the opportunity to talk with David about both the return of Will & Grace after 11 years off the air and his beloved Clippers. Some clips, pun intended, are excerpted below: 4:31-4:50: “There was something about last season that felt joyless. In fact, that should have been what it said on the T-shirts: joyless. This year so far, in the two-game sample size, they seem looser and freer. It seems more fun.” 10:30-11:54: “The thing that I will miss about Chris Paul is he was the guy that, in any crunch-time situation, he was the one you trusted the most. I trusted Chris Paul as a scorer, as a defender, as a team leader, as the guy who was going to make the right decision more than anybody else on the team by far. So it was scary initially when he was traded. And the downside of Chris Paul was you would see him constantly chirping at players. I think Blake [Griffin] and DJ [DeAndre Jordan] did a pretty good job for the most part masking their annoyance and their frustration…I don’t think he was a great personality manager, which is a really important part of being a leader. Know who your teammates are, know who the people are around you and make adjustments. Don’t expect people to adjust to your personality.” 14:24-14:37: “In the last two minutes of a close game with a lot on the line, who is the Clipper that I would most want to see take that shot? Is it Blake right now? It might be Lou Williams. I’m not sure.” 22:33-23:22 on bringing Will & Grace back on the air: “I was reluctant at first. I thought, ‘Well, it’s sort of run its course.’ But I think there was a sense that there was a need for something comforting and familiar to be out there in the public broadcasting sphere that, in really, really bad troubled times like these, would serve a function, would serve to be a comfort to people, if only for a half an hour on Thursday nights. To that end, I thought, ‘OK, well this is now a worthwhile endeavor,’ and, ‘I think I can make it so that we can get all the work done before tipoff on home games.’ And that is my goal. That actually is my goal for the year.” 24:13-24:49: “It’s easy to obsess, to obsess about the work and obsess about the things you should’ve done and obsess about the problems that could arise. And that can be never-ending if you don’t find something to throw yourself into, to really, really get into. I’m lucky that way. I have my family, I have things I love to do, and I have basketball. I have the Clippers, and it completely transports me from what I’m doing on the job. I mean I’m grateful.” 26:25-26:46: “There are so many monumentally horrible and stupid things that are coming at you constantly that seem ripe for parody or satirization, but you can’t… once you do it and if it’s aired four weeks later, we’re like, ‘Oh my god, yeah. When did that happen? Years ago, right?’ There’s a time warp happening.” 31:11-32:14: “If the appeal of the show initially was the novelty of two gay leads, the appeal of the return, the reboot of it, is the familiarity of it. It’s the comfort of it. So our goal wasn’t to reinvent this thing. Our goal was to do what it was, but to just give it a little facelift…It still needs to be what it was. Our goal was not to do anything radical or to reinvent it all. It’s the same characters, the same circumstances, visually and acoustically the same show; it’s just 2017 now.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

When Will & Grace co-creator Max Mutchnick went to his long-time writing partner David Kohan with the idea of reuniting the cast for a one-off web video, Kohan humored him. Little did he know the reunion would end up going far beyond that one short video. Will, Grace, Karen and of course, just Jack -- are now coming back to NBC for two new seasons.
