Will & Grace co-creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are back with a throwback multi-cam sitcom that isn't Gay Golden Girls, but isn't NOT Gay Golden Girls. Would we travel down the road and back again for more? Joe Reid joins us to talk about it. Around The Dial takes us through Last One Laughing UK, Shrinking, Adolescence, The Pitt, and Gone Girls. Joe pitches the Simpsons episode "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious" for induction into the Nonac. Then, after naming the week's Winner and Loser, it's on to a Game Time that's more hard work than usual. Put down the cottage cheese and listen! GUESTS
Chris Feil and Joe Reid return to join Katey for a broad overview of the most exciting films ahead this year, from new work from greats like Paul Thomas Anderson, Celine Song and Yorgos Lanthimos to, yes, Wicked: For Good. They also continue their annual tradition of making irresponsibly early best picture predictions, and share some hopes that Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal, Andrew Scott and even some non-Irish actors will have a huge year ahead of them. We open the show amazed at the number of overly qualified village idiots who have found a home inside the Democrat leadership. We get a zinger from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) followed immediately by Sen. Chuck “You” Schumer (D-NY). Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reveals the latest scheme by the Democrats in the House to take away Constitutional power from the President and put it in their own hands. At President Trump's first Cabinet meeting, he had Elon Musk explain what the role o DOGE is and how it's going. They also took questions from the press. Tulsi Gabbard said they have already fired 100 agents at the CIA for their postings. She also said the same thing about the CNN piece we discussed yesterday about fired agents selling state secrets in retaliation. Sec. Of Defense Pete Hegseth said they are doing a full, internal investigation into the Biden withdrawal from Afghanistan. There will likely be several political generals who will be let go. A gifted data analyst who goes by the moniker DataRepublican revealed how an NGO run by far Left activists behind most of the lawfare waged on Trump had $17 million sent to them to create a knock-off of a Muppet show. Based on the quality of the show and only 200 views, she wonders where all the money really went? CNN's Jake Tapper is gaslighting us with his latest book. Original Sin is supposed to be about the cover-up of Joe Biden's cognitive decline, but we cannot pretend he wasn't part of it. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt schooled the press on Dan Bongino and then took delight in telling them that they were no longer going to let the D.C. press pool decide who could ask the President questions. MSNBC just fired Rachel Maddow's staff after her rant in defense of Joe Reid, while throwing her own employers under the bus. That's a shame. Finally, we reveal the latest astroturfing move to try to sow seeds of discontent inside deep red pockets of the country by sending agitators into town hall meetings. The agitators pretend to be outraged MAGA voters, but they are Democrat operatives who have been bought and paid to pretend. Katey and Joe Reid go through their final picks in all 23 Oscar categories, from the guaranteed wins to the true toss-up categories — and of course, the eternally unpredictable best picture race. Then Katey talks to Oscar executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan about the frantic final days before the show, what to expect from Conan O'Brien's first time as host, and how some classic Oscar traditions will be turned on their head this year. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we usually talk about movie stars and not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between. Today, however, we talk about Oscar movies (!), or better yet, movies that remind us of Oscar movies! Conor and I welcome back the lovely Joe Reid (co-host of This Had Oscar Buzz, creator of Cinematrix, and Vulture's Movies Fantasy League) & Chris Feil (co-host of This Had Oscar Buzz and writer of a series of great pieces of Oscar history for Vanity Fair). Today, we each choose a movie adjacent to a current Best Picture Oscar nominee. The movies include Seconds, The Name of the Rose, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Wolverine. Also discussed is filmmaker Bill Morrison's nomination for his incredible short film Incident, Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1981 film Quest for Fire, and our recent This Had Oscar Buzz guest appearance talking about The Devil's Own. Additionally, there's conversation about Rob McElhenney's Hot Ones episode (in which he discusses the trauma of being cut out of The Devil's Own as a young actor!), the “Hellfire” sequence in Hunchback, and how exactly The Wolverine counts as a B-Side. Be sure to give us a follow on Bluesky at @tfsbside.bsky.social. Enjoy!

Today's show opens with a reminder to our two obstructionist Senators, Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) that the New Media is more than happy to play the game of dredging up dirt and getting you primaried in the next election cycle. While Sen. Richard “Griphook” Blumenthal (D-CT) thinks there are as many as 10 Republican senators who will not vote for Pete Hegseth, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) thinks they will have to support the will of the electorate that voted for Trump and his agenda. The Trans-mafia are bringing a case to the Supreme Court. The state of Tennessee has banned all puberty blockers and related surgeries for minors. We get to take a sneak peek at the arguments being made by the Left and how the more Constitutional minded justices are poking gaping holes in those arguments. Ultimately, we may be going through a version of Transmunchausen by proxy, as demonstrated by a comment from Annette Benning. We discovered a wonderful exchange between MSNBC's Joe Reid and then Rep. Adam “Lying Piece of” Schiff (D-CA) regarding pardons. It seems in 2020 they concluded that pardons are never given to innocent people. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) ruined The View's Joy Bahar's day when she didn't get the answer she wanted. Fetterman said both the Hunter Biden case and Trump's NY case were both politically motivated. Finally, actor James Woods put out a tweet today seeming to indicate there may be trouble brewing inside the Emhoff house. Rumors are circulating that the 2nd hubs may have been playing house with a few of Kamala's campaign staffers. While I haven't seen anything concrete, I did find it fun to dive into a bit of tabloid gossip to close out the show. Today's show opens with the question we keep asking – who is really running the government? Tucker Carlson weighed-in on this over the weekend and his thoughts are far more than just ominous, it's terrifying. We then talk about the deportation plan and how elected Democrats plan to fight federal enforcement of our laws. As Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) says, “It's a form of insurrection.” Border Czar-select Tom Homan wonders why anyone would have a problem with criminals and national security threats being removed? Next, we continue the analysis of a dying Legacy/mainstream media. Axios CEO Jim Vandehei ripped Elon Musk for stating that real journalism is on X. It's fun to listen to those trapped in a bubble starting to realize they are no longer relevant. Joe Scarborough went on a rant this morning, siding with Vandehei and showing us how out-of-touch with reality he really is. The total lack of self-awareness or intellectual honesty from The Morning Joe is stunning. They still haven't accepted they are no longer listened to. In fact, just this past week, the Hallmark channel had more viewers then either CNN or MSNBC. And, among the worst of MSNBC, is the mentally unhinged and perpetual racist, Joe Reid. An overly educated white woman took to social media and asked why anyone should care about illegals coming to the country. She literally doesn't understand why it's a problem. Dr. Marty Makary was just nominated by Donald Trump to head the FDA! That's a phenomenal pick. If you don't know him, I play a snippet of his testimony to Congress over who he thinks is the biggest spreader of public health misinformation. We are learning that a single call from Mexico's president to Donald Trump to congratulate him on his election, turned into a more important discussion. It seems Trump took the time to discuss his plans for tariffs if Mexico doesn't start to work with us like an ally. Finally, a university in Texas is trying something that used to be the norm in college – they are accepting students based solely on merit, excellence and intelligence. What a novel approach! Today's show opens with a story I learned about how Elon Musk decided to share all of Tesla's patents for free. He did that in 2014. At the time, it was considered foolish. But, Musk was playing the long game. In a similar way, his purchase of Twitter is about a much bigger and longer strategy than just owning a social media company. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre gave us another meltdown when simply asked if there is any awkwardness now between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris? Tom Homan reminds us that Donald Trump wants to declare the Cartels a terrorist organization to be able to leverage to full might of our military to take them out. When you think of the heinous crimes they perpetrate on a daily basis, it's hard to find a reason not want that to happen. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said there will be firings across the agencies. But, he reminds us, if some broke the law, they need to be held accountable. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reminds us the Biden-Harris regime are committed to sending billions and billions of dollars to Urkraine before January 20. With all the campaign promises she made, you would have thought starting to implement them might be a better idea. Then we get to see more histrionics from the Deep State and their willing accomplices from the Legacy/mainstream media over the appointments of Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). We hear from Joe Reid, John Bolton and Rev. Al Sharpton and an NBC field reporter inside the Capitol. We close with a nod to the DOGE – Department of Government Efficiency. While the squaw, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tried to be snarky about it, Elon Musk dropped the hammer of truth on her pathetic head. Hello TIFF! For Prestige Junkie's inaugural year in Toronto we teamed up with TIFF to present this live edition of the podcast. First Katey is joined by Vulture's Joe Reid to look back at the festival thus far, with plenty of buzzy best actress performances and a coveted audience award on the line. Then Hugh Grant joins Katey to discuss his new A24 thriller Heretic but also so much more, from how he's learned to weather social media storms to the imitation Meryl Streep does of him on set when he's worried about a close-up. Heretic opens in theaters on November 15. Subscribe to the Prestige Junkie newsletter. Follow Katey on X and Letterboxd. Follow The Ankler.
The Orphan Black franchise returns to TV with Orphan Black: Echoes, and our own Joe Reid returns to talk about the sequel starring Krysten Ritter, Reed Diamond, and a whole assload of strawberry Jell-O. Is the new iteration a pale (pink) imitation of the original? Might it benefit from streaming the whole thing at once? And do its connections to the parent show only point up its weaknesses? Later, we went Around The Dial with (often justly) forgotten sitcoms of the '90s plus The Morning Show and a minor-league 30 For 30, before Hannah schemed to win the lion's share of a place in the Canon for a first-season The Traitors (US). Trebek won, arranged marriage lost, and we pulled some strings to play a nepo-forward Game Time. Get comfy on a living-room soundstage and listen! GUESTS

Host Katey Rich is joined by This Had Oscar Buzz co-host Joe Reid to discuss the Cannes Film Festival winners, and which titles could follow in the footsteps of The Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall to major Oscar success. Then, Katey talks to Maya Rudolph about the second season of her series Loot, in which she co-stars alongside Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon, and more. After coming up on Saturday Night Live and guest starring on virtually every great comedy of the past two decades, Rudolph says “I feel far funnier among funny people as opposed to being the center of something.” As Loot emerges as a true workplace comedy in its second season, it certainly allows her to do just that. In this 179th episode of The Thriller Zone, host David Temple interviews thriller writer Joe Reid, also known as Parker Adams, about his latest book, The Lock Box. The conversation covers various topics, including the inspiration behind the book, the use of pen names, and Reid's background as a marine biologist and patent lawyer. He discusses the process of writing fiction and how it relates to his work as a litigator. The discussion also delves into the character of Monna Locke, a female army vet turned safecracker, and the possibility of a sequel, plus Joe discusses his writing journey and the influences that have shaped his career. Joe (aka Parker) talks about the importance of accumulating experiences and listening to your instincts as a writer, and also emphasizes the need to finish what you start and not be afraid of criticism. Some highlights include the themes of complex characters, the influence of personal backgrounds on writing, and the importance of starting a story in the right place. The interview concludes with a discussion about the impact of COVID-19 on storytelling plus an upcoming speaking event at the Carlsbad library with Christopher Reich on May 17th at Noon.Learn more at JosephReidBooks.com, and as always, be sure to visit us at TheThrillerZone.com, follow us on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook @TheThrillerZone and you can catch us on all the podcast channels, like @applepodcasts @Spotify @iHeartRadio and more. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we chat about the action heroine: Sigourney Weaver! But what were the films she made in between Alien and Aliens? Other than A-sides The Year of Living Dangerously and Ghostbusters, there was Eyewitness, Deal of the Century, One Woman or Two (a French film!), and Half Moon Street. Our guest is the incomparable Joe Reid, co-host of the essential podcast This Had Oscar Buzz. Be sure to check them out as Oscar season races to an exciting conclusion over the next few weeks. Topics in this episode include: When exactly did the horse stables in midtown Manhattan shut down? What exactly was an early ‘80s film set like with both WIlliam Hurt and James Woods on it? Where exactly is Half Moon Street and what is the movie trying to say? Did anybody involved in the making of Deal of the Century like it at any point? It was the year of Nicole Kidman winning by a nose, Michael Moore getting booed, and Roman Polanski getting a standing ovation in absentia — every Oscar year has its weirdness, but 2003 might be hard to top. A look back at the ceremony that took place days after the invasion of Iraq, with Ben Affleck, Jennier Lopez, and Jennifer Garner all in attendance. Truly a time to be alive. The episode also includes discussion of the BAFTA and DGA winners, and a look ahead at this weekend's PGA and SAG Awards.
