In today's episode: John handicaps the NBA's Conference Finals, which begin tonight in the West as the Denver Nuggets host the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 tonight, while the East begins tomorrow with a rematch of last year's ECF as the Miami Heat take on a suddenly rejuvenated Boston Celtics squad. Meanwhile, John reacts to the release of the 2023 NFL Schedule and lists the games he is most interested in watching this season and highlights some of the big winners in the NFL Draft, including another Howie Roseman special for the Philadelphia Eagles, while the Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, and Giants are among the other winners. Then, he will pick each of the Stanley Cup playoff Conference Finals, with the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Dallas Stars in Game 1 tomorrow night, while the upstart Florida Panthers take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final starting on Thursday night. And finally, why the Dodgers' culture is responsible for their 11-2 start in May against vaunted competition, and the suddenly hot St. Louis Cardinals are finding their groove at the right time, and the landscape of the AL East and the Mets' woes.

The Nationals have won the NL East for the fourth time in six years and all eyes now turn to the postseason! Alex says that two things came out of this ALDS. First of, it was apparent that the Angels were the better team. This was not a fluke, John Lackey and Jered Weaver were better than Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, the Angels' deep lineup proved to be deeper than Boston's, and the Angels' bullpen was better too in the sample that they gave. Speaking of the bullpen, it is apparent that Jonathan Papelbon is at the point in his career that he needs to make an adjustment. Papelbon no longer features a breaking ball, and he cannot survive on one pitch. Because when he misses location with his fastball, he's toast, as he was on Sunday. Alex also adds more recap to the ALDS, and hands out the "post of the day" as well as playing a call on the TSS call-in line. In the "Around the League" segment, Alex talks about some similarities between the Red Sox/Angels series and the Dodgers/Cardinals series, how good this Yankees team is, and bad playoff umpiring. For the rest of October, "Without a Curse" will continue to be published every Monday and Thursday.
