Break 1: MOG STORY 1: Mountain View High alum — whose family immigrated from Ghana —becomes first-generation college graduate Diana Bamfo, a Ghanaian immigrant, has overcome challenges to graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC). Bamfo's family moved to the U.S. when she was 12, and she worked as a grocery store cashier for a year to save money for college. Fascinated by math, she chose accounting and joined GGC in 2017. Active in campus groups like International Student Admissions and the School of Business Torch Team Ambassadors Program, she credits GGC for providing a supportive environment and plans to pursue a master's degree in accounting after gaining work experience. STORY 2: GCPS Parent Mentors to host presentation to help parents support special education students Gwinnett County Public Schools Parent Mentors are hosting a presentation titled "Behavior Strategies to Support Your Child" for parents of students receiving special education services. The session, scheduled for December 5, will cover identifying problematic behaviors, understanding the four primary functions of behavior, and offering tips and techniques for addressing behaviors. Parents can choose between an in-person session at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center in Suwanee or a virtual session on Zoom. The goal is to provide consistent behavior interventions and strategies across home and school environments. Parents can register for their preferred session online. We'll be right back   Break 2: PEGGY SLAPPY – DTL   STORY 4: My students in prison have complex pasts but are now creating new stories The Northwestern University Prison Education Program recently celebrated the graduation of 16 incarcerated students with bachelor's degrees. The program aims to provide higher education opportunities to those in prison, fostering growth, healing, and rehabilitation. The students, who shared their complex life stories through assignments like sociological autobiographies, demonstrate the diverse backgrounds and challenges faced by individuals in the criminal justice system. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding the complexity of individuals behind bars, acknowledging their humanity, dreams, and potential for positive change. The incarcerated students participated in a full liberal arts curriculum, highlighting their academic capabilities and resilience.   STORY 5: This lawsuit has the NCAA staring down extinction. Is that a bad thing? The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is facing a potential class-action lawsuit from current and former athletes seeking $1.4 billion in damages for violating antitrust laws by restricting compensation for the use of athletes' "names, images, and likenesses" (NIL). The NCAA argues that such damages could force the curtailing of college sports programs across the country and has appealed the case. This legal battle comes amid a broader shift in policies surrounding college athletes' compensation, with increased focus on the athletes' earning rights, particularly in the context of NIL endorsements. The NCAA's longstanding amateurism model is under scrutiny as the landscape of college sports evolves.   We'll be back in a moment   Break 3: TOM WAGES – JACKSON EMC Story 6: ANGIE CLAWSON SALVATION ARMY And now, here is Keith Ippolito's conversation with Angie Clawson from the Salvation Army. Break: ESOG – INGLES 8 STORY 7: 30-year mortgage rates keep falling, move below 7.5% The average rate on 30-year fixed mortgages decreased to 7.41%, down from 7.55% the previous week, according to Bankrate's weekly national survey. This drop may signal a prolonged decline in mortgage rates, influenced by factors such as a slowing job market and signs that the Federal Reserve's efforts to combat inflation are effective. Mortgage rates are also impacted by factors like decreased mortgage applications and lenders vying for a shrinking pool of applicants. The Federal Reserve's decision to pause interest rate hikes contributes to the shift in mortgage rates. Economists anticipate a further decrease in mortgage rates, potentially falling below 7% during the winter months.   STORY 8: Gov. Brian Kemp's chief of staff moving to Georgia Power Georgia Governor Brian Kemp's chief of staff, Trey Kilpatrick, is set to join Georgia Power as senior vice president of external affairs from January 15. Kilpatrick, who served as chief of staff since 2020, has experience working with the late U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson and an Atlanta-based investment firm. Georgia Power's CEO, Kim Greene, expressed Kilpatrick's dedication to Georgia's growth and well-being. Lauren Curry, Kemp's deputy chief of staff, will succeed Kilpatrick as chief of staff, marking the first female in this role in Georgia's history, while Brad Bohannon will become the deputy chief of staff.   We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: Henssler 60 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. " When we come to a new country, especially North America, the established diaspora - we are told, or we feel the need to assimilate, but I think it's very important to remain and stay true to who we are and the culture that we grew up with and to not hide that light under a bushel. Be proud of being Jamaican , proud of being Nigerian, proud of being Grenadian, Trinidadian, whatever it is, Ghanaian and whatever it is when we come over here because there is a lot that we do have to be proud about. It is a celebration of our 14 year anniversary show – our good friend; Vitaly Katsenelson and bringing back the first guest we ever had on the show. Born  and raised in Murmansk, Russia (the home for Russia‘s northern navy fleet, think Tom Clancy‘s Red October). Immigrated to the US from Russia in 1991 with all his  family three brothers, father, and stepmother. His  professional career is easily described in one sentence: He invest, He educates, he writes, and he could not dream of doing anything else. He is Chief Investment Officer at Investment Management Associates, Inc (IMA), a value investment firm based in Denver, Colorado. After he received his  graduate and undergraduate degrees in finance (cum laude) from the University of Colorado at Denver, and finished his  CFA designation, he wanted to keep learning. He figured the best way to learn is to teach. At first he taught an undergraduate class at the University of Colorado at Denver and later a graduate investment class at the same university that he designed based on his  day job. He found that the university classroom was not big enough, so he started writing. He writes a monthly column for Institutional Investor Magazine and he has  written articles for the Financial Times, Barron‘s, BusinessWeek, Christian Science Monitor, New York Post, and the list goes on. He was profiled in Barron‘s, and has  been interviewed by Value Investor Insight, Welling@Weeden, BusinessWeek, BNN, CNBC, and countless radio shows. Vitaliy has authored the Little Book of Sideways Markets (Wiley, 2010) and Active Value Investing (Wiley, 2007). Jason and her take the time to explore how important it is for the church to be a safe place for conversations and how investing in young people wrestling with doubts is often a long game requiring perseverance. Anne is a first-generation Canadian, born to Lebanese parents who Immigrated when she was young. As the eldest child, success and achievement in school and activities were essential, which led her to pursue multiple degrees and be extensively involved in social justice organizations as a youth. I wasn't expecting this episode to go this route, but it was totally worth it!Meet Dr. Maks! Immigrated from Russia at the age of 16 and quickly learned the culture shock of moving to America. Throughout his life, he had to quickly learn how to fend for himself, from living with 14 people in a small house to trying to make ends meet. Things didn't come to easy for him. He made some friends, went to school and got told no a bunch of times, but none of that stopped him. After meeting his co-founder, who just had surgery for cancer, they went on to see how exercise and lifestyle can help those recover through a complete care network. This network was used to track what cancer patients did and how their physicians can prescribe better care. With this newly developed app, they broadened their scope by stepping into ataraxia and opioid addiction. They wanted to see if they can help those that have lost it all, achieve better lives through fitness.I really dived into the opioid addiction section to see if there is anything we can learn about helping people seek better recovery. We've all heard stories of an addict becoming a runner, but does it hold validity in a study...well we shall soon know!Support the show (http://www.redefine-fitness.com)

They had to leave everything behind and start from ground zero.   Stan talked about growing up in New York City.  His father worked 20 hours a day to provide for his family and ultimately got into the automotive industry.    Stan works with his dad in one of the family’s automotive shop in Phoenix, Arizona where they moved to 13 years ago. Stan talks about the move to Phoenix from NYC when he was in high school.    Stan talks about his father being his hero. He was inspired to start his own businesses because he saw his father doing it.    He knew that if he failed, he could treat it as an opportunity to learn and that he could always start over again.  Seeing what happens is half of the excitement.    Stan started a new venture with his cousin, Alex after reviewing lots of ideas with Alex and Alex finding agreeing that the idea was THE idea.  The company is to simplify the parts logistics for auto shops.    They created an MVP and took it to some vendors and then did some research.  They got a great response and then they ran with it.   They are converting the current product onto the blockchain.   Stan shares the story behind the name of his company, PartsDetect. The journey to the name involved testing it out on his dad and making sure he could say the name.    Stan’s dad thinks he owns 50% of the company because Stan is his son.  His dad is coming around the slowly to the idea of the company but is somewhat old fashioned when it comes to work and productivity.    Stan and Alex share their experience as new entrepreneurs.   Stan has a sister with a daughter named Bella who is 7 who is his heart and joy.    If he could wave a magic wand and change something in the world, he would remove irrational fear.      Terri’s Key Takeaway  Failure is an opportunity to learn.      References in the Podcast  PartsDetect:  http://www.partsdetect.com/      Contact  Stan can be reached via Linked at https://www.linkedin.com/in/stan-mirzayev-14028970/ or by email at Stan@PartsDetect.com.  You can follow him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/partsdetect/ or on Twitter at https://twitter.com/PartsDetect    You can follow Terri on Twitter at @terrihansonmead or go to her website at www.terrihansonmead.com or on Medium:  https://medium.com/@terrihansonmead.   Feel free to email Terri at PilotingYourLife@gmail.com.  To continue the conversation, go to Twitter at @PilotingLife and use hashtag #PilotingYourLife.

Julia Fisher talks to Miriam Chernasov - Israel is a rich mix of people who have come to live there from all over the world. In recent years many Russian Jews have immigrated to Israel including my guest today Miriam Chernasov. I've been following Miriam's story for a few years … she finished school, went into the army and then trained to be a nursery teacher. When I met her recently in Netanya, she had just returned from Armenia … she told me what she had been doing there. Our aim is to build bridges... To build bridges of understanding and support, in a spirit of reconciliation, between believers (both Jewish and Arab) in the Holy Land (Israel and the Palestinian Areas) and Christians worldwide. olivetreefund.org

This story gives a graphic insight into the challenges Jewish people face when they move from one culture to another … and in this case, how one young Jewish child from the Ukraine found his place in Israeli society. I asked Kiryll why his parents left the Ukraine and moved to Israel. Our aim is to build bridges...
