What did you learn from Ken's message about the deity of Christ and his emptying himself (verse 7) to take on humanity? Is there an immediate insight or application you would like to share from the passage or the message?Read about his humanity in the following verses. How does this qualify him to be your “advocate with the Father” (1 John 2:1;· Luke 2:52, Mark 11:12, John 4:6, John 11:35, Hebrews 4:15)?Read verses 5-7 again. We are instructed to have the same “attitude” (or mindset) as Christ described in these verses. Describe how this attitude should be yours toward those in your life, starting with the phrase “I should…”Jesus set aside his rights as deity for our benefit by taking on “the form of a servant” (verse 7). What does it mean in your life to take the form of a servant for the benefit of others?Verses 8 and 9 present Christ's progression from humility, obedience, suffering, and exaltation. Close your time by reading Hebrews 12:1-3. In what area of your life do you need endurance so that you will know the exaltation from Christ, “Well done, good and faithful servant”?Pray for the Unreached: The Maratha in India are a Hindu warrior group known for resisting Mughal rule and establishing an empire under Shivaji in the 17th century. February 9th is a big day. While the Super Bowl will be played in New Orleans, here in Annapolis, the SOUPer Bowl is happening at Heritage Baptist Church! For 19 years, the community has come together to support the Light House Homeless Prevention Center by hosting a community luncheon featuring SOUP (of course), salad, and bread. ONE HUNDRED percent of the donations are passed along to the Light House. The entire community is welcome, and a suggested donation of $10 will go a long way toward helping the homeless in our community this winter. If you can't make the event--please consider a donation (select SOUPer Bowl in the drop down). Brian Shallcross, the GM of the Chesapeake Baysox has traded in his baseball bats for soup ladles and will be preparing three soups-- chicken noodle, his award-winning chile, and a potato version for the vegetarians amongst us! There is a lot going on on Sunday and this is the perfect way to kick off the day. Have a listen! Ever wonder why we do Souper Sundays? (And yes-this week is one of those.) I suppose the answer could be “ for the perogies” and that would be enough, but I suspect there are some other human hungers that a morning like this can feed. We will meet at VA Cafe at 10:45, catch up […]
How long were we off since the last episode? When did we first start recording Fetch a Pail? Is it Bad Rap or Bad Rep, or either? MDITF? Is gazpacho the only other cold soup? Is coffee soup? Is hottub soup? All these questions and more were written down hastily as Jill edited the episode but none of them are answered in this week's FAP. Tune in to find out why she asked them, but not what the answers are! It's like Jeopardy except instead of the questions being answers and the answers being questions, everything is just questions. Jeff Silberblatt is delighted to welcome Jenny Levison to the Jewish Times podcast. Jenny is the mastermind behind Souper Jenny, a thriving chain of five restaurants serving delectable soups and salads in the bustling Atlanta metroplex. Beyond her culinary success, Jenny's heart shines through her creation of The Zadie Project, a 501c3 nonprofit named after her father (“Zadie” is Yiddish for “Grandfather”), and dedicated to providing healthy nourishment to children in Title 1 schools. Prepare to be moved by Jenny's journey and the impactful initiatives of The Zadie Project. Tune in for a dose of inspiration, and you may find yourself craving a visit to one of her inviting locations after hearing about the mouthwatering menu!IN THIS EPISODE:[0:24] Jeff introduces Jenny Levison [1:46] Jenny shares the Souper Jenny story from its creative inception[4:04] Jenny describes the menu at Souper Jenny, “My Dad's Turkey Chili,” and the Zadie Project[7:50] Discussion of how the Zadie Project was conceived and functions, and Jenny shares what her father taught her about philanthropy[10:21] The farm's original intent was to provide produce for the restaurant, what customers say about the restaurant and the food and Jenny's goal for the Zadie Project[12:09] Discussion about the locations of the restaurants and Jenny's opinion about how Atlanta has changed over the past 25 years and how they managed through Covid[16:36] Discussion about menu items and Jeff shares his appreciation to Jenny for what she does for the communityKEY TAKEAWAYS:Jenny started a 501c3 called The Zadie Project. The project provides better nutrition to Title 1 school system kids. They started by donating 30 quarts a week and are now donating 800. The goal is to donate 1000 quarts each week. The menu at Souper Jenny changes daily except for “My Dad's Turkey Chili,” a staple. All the profit from this soup goes to The Zadie Project.Early on, the farm was designed to grow produce for the restaurant. The demand for produce at the restaurants is so great that the farm can't keep up. It is now used as an educational place for school groups. The produce is sold, and the proceeds go toward the Zadie Project. Before entering the restaurant business, the Atlanta native attended Carnegie Mellon and worked as an Actress in Los Angeles and New York. She moved back to Atlanta to perform with Actor's Express and has been here ever since. After spending two years traveling the world and learning to prepare different cuisines, Levison realized the one thing that was universal was soup. This realization was her inspiration to start Souper Jenny in 1999. From that initial inspiration, Souper Jenny now has five different locations, the Souper Farm and “The Zadie Project,” a nonprofit that provides meals to Atlantans in need.
Home Church Questions • What about Ken's presentation of the “New Torah” was most helpful and challenging? Why?• Read Matthew 5:13-16 from Jesus's message #1. You are described as “salt” and “light.” What areas of your life do you need to work on to become “saltier” and “brighter?”• Jesus's message #2, you are described as a “sheep among wolves” (10:16). Read Matthew 10:24-33. What fears do you face that inhibit you from boldly proclaiming Jesus? What motivations does Jesus provide in this passage to help you overcome your fear?• Jesus's third message describes you as “blessed” (13:16). Read Matthew 13:23. Being blessed as “good soil” how can you till the soil of your life to increase your “fruit” (bible intake, prayer life, ministry, witness, etc.)?• The parable Jesus told in his fourth sermon relates you as servant of the king (18:23). Read Matthew 18:23-35. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your forgiveness to others for sins against you or your loved ones? Is there now a need to forgive someone?• In message #5, Jesus looks to the future relating not only the signs of his coming, but also how we should live in the meantime. Read Matthew 25:14-30. In this parable, you are a steward of the master's property. Which “talents” (resources) you possess can be used more effectively to advance the kingdom. SBS Russian talked to Sara Bendetsky ahead of Hanukkah, one of the main and brightest holidays of the Jewish calendar. Sarah Bendetskaya expressed her confidence that neither the terrible terrorist attack in Israel, nor the growth of anti-Semitism in the world will force the Jewish community to hide. On the contrary, Sarah says, the community will celebrate Hanukkah joyfully, with the heads held high.

When you create something new like 29029 you never know what will happen. It's hard to tell if people are going to buy into the idea that climbing up a mountain for 36 hours over a weekend to try to reach the vertical gain of Mt. Everest is a good idea or not. In 2017 when 29029 was launched, it was a small group of people who were known for enjoying crazy experiences. They loved it! Of course they did. In 2018 as the brand expanded to include an additional location in Snowbasin Utah a larger community had the opportunity to experience this new everesting concept. By 2019 and the pandemic year of 2020, 29029 Everesting had a full-blown community. There were alumni returning to the mountain each season. Those alumni were wearing their red hats and 7 summit triangle shirts. 29029 was growing. Sitting here years later, it's impossible to imagine our summers without the mountain. What started as a crazy idea that may or may not have work has become our passion. Jenny Levison (or Souper Jenny as many of her Restaurant customers in Atlanta know) is one of those individuals who has been there since almost the very beginning. She too didn't know quite what this 29029 experiment was…… But in the years between Jenny's first climb in 2018 to today, as she is preparing to take on the mountain for her 4th time, she's found something she can't quite let go of….. Jenny is going to take us back to the early days of 29029 and recount the moments and lessons the mountain has provided in her life. Though Jenny has never had the opportunity to place a red hat on her head……yet……..she comes back for more than that token of completion. She climbs for herself and for the people who tirelessly show up ascent after ascent and year after year as she's chosen to just keep climbing. Learn more about 29029 HERE Subscribe to the 29029 Podcast to stay inspired to find your own Everest!
