Kate's journey from self-publishing and writing across genres to landing a traditional publishing deal with Fake Out, Make Out. How Kate built a spy romance, balanced action with emotional beats, and embraced genre mashups. How she drew from her own autoimmune journey and the importance of seeing disabled and chronically ill characters on the page. How she approaches outlining action scenes, creating compelling character dynamics, and finding the perfect title for the book. Send us Fan MailOn this episode of The Book Fix Podcast, your hosts Yajaira and Cheli dive into Happy Place by Emily Henry—aka emotional damage disguised as a beach read.Harriet and Wyn were that couple—college sweethearts who just made sense… until they didn't. Six months post-breakup (that no one knows about), they find themselves stuck sharing a bedroom during their annual friend group trip to a Maine cottage that's about to be sold. So naturally, they do the most logical thing possible: pretend they're still together for one last week. What could go wrong?Between forced proximity, fake dating, and a friend group that feels a little too real, this book serves nostalgia, tension, and heartbreak with a side of coastal vibes. We're talking miscommunication, longing stares, and the kind of love that maybe never actually went away.Join us as we spiral over second chances, debate whether we'd survive this friend group dynamic, and ask the real question: is this a comfort read… or an emotional setup?Support the showOur Linktree: https://linktr.ee/thebookfix?utm_source=linktree_admin_sharebecome our Patron ♡ https://www.patreon.com/BookFixbuy us a book ♡ https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thebookfixBusiness Inquiries: thebookfixpodcast@gmail.comfollow us on Tiktok! ♡ https://www.tiktok.com/@thebookfix

Send us Fan MailOn this episode of The Book Fix Podcast, your hosts Yajaira and Cheli are heading to a messy little coastal town to talk about Savor It by Tarah DeWitt—and trust… this one is giving small-town chaos, fake dating with benefits, and emotional damage (the fun kind). We're following Sage, a lifelong Spunes resident whose life is spiraling just a bit after her breakup—especially when her ex gets engaged immediately (jail). Enter Fisher, a burnt-out Michelin-star chef dealing with grief, a career crash, and suddenly taking care of his teenage niece. When these two collide, they strike a deal: fake date to fix their reputations and survive the town's annual summer competition. Obviously… that goes exactly how you think it does.We get into the slow-burn tension, the steamy “this is definitely not part of the deal” moments, and the Big Feelings™ that sneak up on both of them. Also: small-town side characters, chaotic animals, and a summer romance that starts as strategy and ends as something way too real.If you love fake dating, grumpy x sunshine energy, healing arcs, and “we said it was just for the summer” lies… this one's for you.Support the showOur Linktree: https://linktr.ee/thebookfix?utm_source=linktree_admin_sharebecome our Patron ♡ https://www.patreon.com/BookFixbuy us a book ♡ https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thebookfixBusiness Inquiries: thebookfixpodcast@gmail.comfollow us on Tiktok! ♡ https://www.tiktok.com/@thebookfix
Send us Fan MailThis week on The Book Fix, your hosts Yajaira and Cheli dive into The Deal by Elle Kennedy — the college hockey romance that basically set the standard for fake dating done right.Hannah Wells is confident in most areas of her life—except when it comes to romance. Determined to finally get her crush's attention, she makes a deal with Garrett Graham, the cocky (and very annoying) captain of the hockey team: she'll tutor him to save his GPA, and in return, he'll pretend to date her to make another guy jealous. Simple… until it's not.Garrett just wants to keep his hockey career on track, but what starts as a mutually beneficial arrangement quickly turns into something neither of them expected. The lines blur, the chemistry hits hard, and suddenly “pretend” isn't enough. We're breaking down the tension, the banter, and why this book still has readers hooked years later. So cute, a very fun plot, and character growth that makes you root for our main female Mariel- she is such a sweet witch and Oz (MMC) encourages her to be proud of her magic and of herself. The tension between them is palpable and I was living for it! Definitely recommend!

Episode Summary: We had waaayyy too much fun with this one! Join debut author, Sarah Hawley, and I as we discuss her debut release, A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon. She also gives us an inside look at the rest of the series... can you say, "I accidentally summoned a succubus from a stone I bought on Ebay?" Other topics include incorporating current issues and political messaging into paranormal/fantasy romance, lusting after men in black leather gloves, and the emotional rollercoaster of publishing your first book. Enjoy!Guest: Sarah Hawley, author of A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a DemonBook Summary:Mariel Spark knows not to trust a demon, especially one that wants her soul, but what's a witch to do when he won't leave her side—and she kind of doesn't want him to?Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon—one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain.Ozroth the Ruthless is a legend among demons. Powerful and merciless, he drives hard bargains to collect mortal souls. But his reputation has suffered ever since a bargain went awry—if he can strike a bargain with Mariel, he will earn back his deadly reputation. Ozroth can't leave Mariel's side until they complete a bargain, which she refuses to do (turns out some humans are attached to their souls). But the witch is funny. And curvy. And disgustingly yet endearingly cheerful. Becoming awkward roommates quickly escalates when Mariel, terrified to confess the inadvertent summoning to her mother, blurts out that she's dating Ozroth. As Ozroth and Mariel struggle with their opposing goals and maintaining a fake relationship, real attraction blooms between them. But Ozroth has a limited amount of time to strike the deal, and if Mariel gives up her soul, she'll lose all her emotions—including love—which will only spell disaster for them both.Show Notes: Cocktober came early!
