Throughout the history of civilization, the rise and fall of empires has remained one of the most striking phenomena that impacts societies. Ancient cultures who seemingly reached the apex of human achievement for their time could often swiftly be reduced to ashes, by factors ranging from invasions by foreign enemies, to natural cataclysms. However, there are also mysteries about the disappearances of societies throughout history, leading to unanswered questions about how civilizations can seemingly vanish into the mists of time. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we go in search of answers to the question of how societies collapse, and the intriguing mystery surrounding the disappearance of cultures and the tragic fall of some of history's greatest empires. Welcome to another episode of The Great Metal Debate podcast. Today we will be talking about the fourth full-length studio album from the German melodic death metal band Nyktophobia titled To The Stars. Lets dive into this album track by track. We're gonna do this slightly back asswards though because the first two singles they released for this new record happen to be the last two songs on the album. That's sort of a bold choice if you ask me. The first of which was "Millenium". I figured the song would eventually grow on me but after about 4 more listens, I still couldn't tell you what the song even sounded like. Nothing seemed to really stand out about it. It's not a bad song, it just wasn't memorable. I felt underwhelmed. But then I thought okay, not their best work but its alright. Let's hear that new song titled "Voyager 1". When I opened the file for the opening track, I had mixed feelings over the fact that I had to sit through a minute of obligatory intro track "The Gateway" but on the other hand, it was at least a peaceful sounding intro with the piano keys. I can forgive an intro track as long as its a good intro track. In fact, it fits seamlessly into the first real song which happens to be the album titled track "To The Stars". Now this song, got me nodding my head in approval! I love the soaring guitar winding up over the blast beats which continued throughout the rest of the track. Not a whole lot of variety but it still sounds okay. At least it had a short lived but calming break. Next we have "Farewell". Here instead of the Greek mythology that this band is known for, it appears that they've gone into the topic or interstellar travel. Which is cool, sometimes change is good and I'm a huge science fiction fan. This song in particular definitely has a good enough guitar riff to stick the landing. I would go as far to say that the song "Charon Gate" compliments the former as a great precursor. Not that these two tracks go hand in hand but I do get the feeling of a build-up to a superior musical composition. I quite enjoy this one, it really reminds me of their earlier work. Tomasz' layered vocals go great with that soothing main riff played by guitarists Michael and Phillip. I also like how this one brings back a chorus. "The Fall of Eden" lifts off with a slower tempo but kicks into high gear once Michiel's galloping drumming style picks up a speedy rythmn. The guitars once again wind up with the sharp long notes. The problem with this is that when you hear the first 30 seconds of the song, that's you begin to realize that this is how the rest of the song will play out. The same unchanging simplistic riff. "Progenitor" has the most relaxing intro to any song on the record by having us hear birds chirping over piano and cellos for 1:27. That time stamp of course brings us back to the world of good old fashioned melodic death metal and its probably my favorite track thus far. But then we come to "Behind The Stars Exists No Light" which honestly sounds pretty good. I like that moment when Tomasz says ... There is no light, behind the stars And I already talked about these last two songs but I need to revisit them. After listening to the whole album I can now provide a much better analysis. Starting with "Millenium", I'll say that it still doesn't fully grab my attention but its okay. In conclusion "Voyager 1" is a perfect closer to the album as the first half of the track is instrumental. A somber piano has keys being pressed down hard in a dramatic way but later on we get a very weird, almost alien-like sound. It's hard to describe so you'll just have to check it out for yourself. My final thoughts on this record is that I love this band but my go-to albums will always be Fallen Empire and Fate of Atlantis. So I'll give Nyktophobia - To The Stars a 8.5/10 rating. Show your support for Nyktophobia by streaming their music on all platforms and their merch is on their Bandcamp page.

They conquer lands, amass wealth, and build towering monuments. But behind this façade, the seeds of their decline are sown. Every empire faces the same imminent threats: internal division, corruption, and complacency.Divisions within an empire weaken the foundation. Rivalries emerge, and unity crumbles. Power struggles and internal conflicts breed mistrust and chaos. As the empire is consumed by internal strife, its strength wanes, leaving it vulnerable to external forces.Corruption engulfs empires like a cancer. Today we take a break from the center and look at what was going on in the borderlands of Russia in 1917. The chaos of that empire's fall created new opportunities for autonomy for the peoples living away from the heartlands. Plus, the displaced officers of the army began to link up in Russia's south with the intent of challenging the Bolsheviks. Part 4 of my series of discussion about the future of America. Are government wants to systemically change what America stands for. They are using the coronavirus pandemic to do so. President Joe Biden, the 46th President Of The United States speech on January 6th failed to unite us, and just pushes more divisive hateful rhetoric that I've never ever heard from a sitting President so far in my lifetime. Joe Biden's coronavirus plan is not working and we need to finally understand that this virus isn't going anywhere and it's something we will have to live with. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lee-leffingwell/support

As new writers, we can be tempted to put so much into our characters that they become overwhelming. Or maybe you've gotten some feedback and they're flat and boring. Characters are so important to getting readers to connect to good fiction, but there are a lot of misconceptions out there about what makes a good, 'likeable,' character. Let me break down those misconceptions and show my unique Theme-based planning strategy for creating compelling characters, no matter what kind of story you're writing.------Don't forget to download the free Story Planning Guide when I take you through finding your Theme, and using the process of Theme-Based Story Planning to create your characters, world, and story conflicts. You can also sign up for the free Pick Up the Pen Challenge if you want a guided experience talking more about character creation and putting your character on the page.Correction: I referenced Lindsay Buroker's Star Kingdom series, but was really thinking about her Fallen Empire series. On this episode of The AIE Podcast... Mew: We are talking to ourselves Mkallah: There are Rusty Ashes of Creation? Tetsemi:: Keeping up with Broken Shore Mew: Are you ready for Stormblood? Mkallah: We have Captain Cybyl's STO update All that and more coming up right now... Podcast Audio Raw Video http://youtu.be/gVRCyAGntoQ Open Welcome to episode #276 of the the podcast celebrating the Alea Iacta Est gaming community, the die has been podcast. This is Tetsemi. To my left is Mewkow (Greetings, Gamers). And, to my right is Mkallah (Hey, guys, there are dark chocolate fig cakes in the guild kitchen). We are our own guests again! Ok, we'll be digging into News shortly, but first, let's talk about what we have been up to. Tetsemi Got through the Druid Class Order Hall and Artifact Quest line (Tank/Melee DPS) and just getting caught up on the Broken Shore quest line (stuck on the 12 wq's). Once I get caught up, I'll start on my Rogue. Also have been working on my crafting a bit, it's very much a slog on alts, compared to previous expansions, so not focusing too much on it. Dabbling in SWTOR a bit, checking out Iokath and it's dailies. Trying to find time to get into either MFN or an operation, but days have been very busy. Mewkow - In FF14, finally got my Bard to ilevel 230, so I'll be running the final dungeons for Heavensward and will be ready for the expansion. Once that is done, I'll try to grind a bit of Gil, and level gathering and crafting classes to try and have those ready for Stormblood. FC has been quite active lately, likely due to expansion hype. Sadly, new players can't join us on Gilgamesh, but lots of returning players are appearing. I will be joining in the Early Access play on the 16th, which should give me plenty of time to get pretty far in before WoW drops the Tomb in everyone's laps. Not very subtle of them to have it come out on the same day as Stormblood, which has been a known date for quite a while. Thoughts? And speaking of WoW, paladin is 110 now and with the partial catch-up of artifact knowledge, and some AP grinding, is closely catching up to my warrior so I can have the two tank types ready for Tomb. Both my FERT druid and worgen warrior are nearly at knowledge level 40 and a couple traits away from concordance. Once I get them to 40, I'll be sharing the knowledge love around to my many alts. My belf rogue is waiting for the knowledge boost before going too much deeper in that story. In SWTOR, I have been moving forward in the Fallen Empire storyline with my Bounty Hunter. In non MMO gaming, I am currently exploring the many mods that are being made for Fallout 4, now that the game is in a more final state as far as DLC goes. There are some impressive DLC like mods out there, adding tons of story and lore to the game. Some even feature voice acting, and add new factions to the game, like the Enclave from Fallout 3, and even NCR armor and power armors from other groups. A while back, I managed to get my hands on an Oculus, and I'm seeing the promise coming there. I saw a new controller being kickstarted that will bring ‘touch' to VR by having haptic feedback in a glove. The fact that it is aiming to be compatible with all the existing VR headsets is promising because the more VR becomes interchangeable in tech, the strong it becomes as a whole. For a recent real life leveling event, I got a nintendo switch. It came with the new Mario Kart, which will allow me to participate in some of the workplace gaming that's been going on lately amongst the switch owners. It's a smooth experience on the built in screen, handles nicely. I'll be trying the new Zelda game next which I hear is rather good. The only sore spot I've seen with it is inventory management and equipment breakage. Oh, and suddenly losing all sense of time while playing it. Mkallah- Phoenix Comicon- our time and misadventures. (some guildies were nice enough to come by and say Hi!
Chuck has finally played the HK bonus chapter, so we're going to talk about it! It feels like a completely different piece of Knights of the Fallen Empire for several reasons. The comedic value can't be understated and we'd like to see more of that aspect injected into the rest of the Knights expansions. Brian has been sitting home alone playing with his PVPNess in an entirely new way! Its called: Tanking. We talk through the difference in DPS and Tank roles in PVP and what those goals are.
This week with The Bad Feeling Podcast, we discuss the ability to re-activate companions that were lost to the Knights of the Fallen Empire storyline. Is this a good idea? How much do your choices matter? This feels like another separation of the story game from the rest of the game play. If the two are separate, will one aspect of Star Wars The Old Republic dominate the other? What should we expect with the next expansion coming this Fall ?
Welcome back! Its time to discuss the end of Knights of the Fallen Empire and then talk about the size and vocality of the SWTOR community.

The blizzard dev team announced that they were going to restrict water striders to specific expansions. Within 48 hours they had backed it off to pre-Legion content only, and then reverted the whole change, waved their hands in the air like they didn't care, and put the whole thing to rest. Long Live Waterstrider Gate. Warlords have buckets, who knew? Oh wait, no, it's a Warlords of Draenor Bucket List discussion on the forums.
