It's almost time to hear “And the Oscar goes to…” which means Nick and Sophia will finally be sharing their Oscar predictions. Will they change before the ceremony? Only time will tell. (Yes.) Even with the beginning of the end of this awards season in sight, they start the episode by sharing their initial reactions to a film that could dominate the 97th Academy Awards: Dune: Part Two. A more in-depth episode on that is coming soon, but first they use their Mentat skills to share their Final Oscar Predictions. As in previous years, they divide all 23 categories into groupings based on degree of difficulty: In the Bag, Toss Up (24:56), and Anybody's Guess (41:32). On this week’s For Your Consideration, it's time for Collider’s awards experts Scott Mantz, Perri Nemiroff and Jeff Sneider to offer their final Oscar predictions, and if you think they agree on everything, think again. Scott thinks Parasite will make history on Sunday night, while Jeff thinks its Best Picture hopes are history, which leaves Perri as the all-important tiebreaker. We wanted to change that and therefore launched the Los Angeles Film Critics Society (LAOFCS) at the end of 2016. By creating this group, they wanted to ensure that the members of their society are reflective of those who reside in the city of Los Angeles. Diversity is very important in film criticism and they want to make sure that all voices are represented within our group. They also want to embrace members that are finding new ways to criticize film whether that be through video, podcasts, or on social media. Over the next few years, the Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society is hoping to redefine what it means to be part of a film critics group by having a year-round presence. Most film critic circles at the end of each year begin to appear to discuss their favorite films of the year. They wanted to create a film critics group that would openly discuss film throughout the year and not just during award season. In our 50th Oscar podcast, I am joined by Gold Rush Gang member Bryan Bonafede. With BAFTA behind us, Bryan and I dig deep into that Dev Patel win and how much it and Lion's recent surge will impact the Oscar race. We also cover most of the tech categories, their history and correlation with Oscar and where BAFTA might have convinced us to change our Oscar rankings. La La Land lost Costumes, Production Design, Film Editing, and Sound so we look closely at the films that won these, compare them with recent guild announcements from the Art Directors and ACE Eddies as well as upcoming ones like Costume Designers and both Sound guilds. The battle for Best Actor is next and it's a battle between the overwhelming critics' winner Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) and two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington (Fences). Between personality, awards history and checkered pasts, this is a category ripe for surprise and we detail the reasons we've chosen who we've predicted to win. We also look at the Visual Effects category where, while we both agree that The Jungle Book is the undisputed frontrunner, we each make a case for a possible spoiler in Deepwater Horizon and Kubo and the Two Strings.  With the Writers Guild of America this weekend we look at how, or if, the winners there will have much impact on possible Oscar results since category placement and eligibility between the two bodies don't match up very well. That said, Bryan and I both agree that at WGA the race for Original is between La La Land and Manchester by the Sea (where Moonlight is nominated) while the Adapted category (where Moonlight is Oscar-nominated) looks like a fight between Arrival and Hidden Figures. WGA predictions will be up tomorrow.  Don't fret, we end with talking about Best Actress and just how far ahead Emma Stone and if a chance for an Isabelle Huppert spoiler is in the cards. Oscar Night is imminently upon us, and that means it's time for Next Projection's so-called "experts" to run through the categories and make their final Oscar predictions in advance of Sunday night's ceremony. NP Awards Pundit and Senior Critic Jason McKiernan is joined by NP Director of Media and Staff Critic Daniel Tucker to discuss all 24 Oscar categories in order of most obvious to most in doubt. There are plenty of laughs, jabs, mistakes, and tangents along the way....

In Oscar podcast #23, Gold Rush Gang member Peter Cioth and myself, Erik Anderson, tear through all 24 Academy Awards categories to find the answer to the single question, "Who Will Win?" While many categories seem locked and loaded (how could anything beat The Grand Budapest Hotel in Production Design or Julianne Moore in Best Actress?) not only do we have lower-tier categories up in the air, the BIG ones are too. Best Picture and Best Director are a juggling, jockeying back and forth of Boyhood or Birdman, Linklater or Iñárritu. And every combination between them. The problem is...they ALL make sense. What we do know is that no matter which of two wins we'll be looking at a new stat, a new precedent and something to talk about in future races besides Ordinary People or Apollo 13! So sit back and listen as we discuss the seriousness of this Oscar dilemma and hopefully, enjoy.  

We'll be taking on Liam Neeson's latest venture into action, Non-Stop. Is this as odd and unmanageable as an action film on a plane seems, or is there something to this one? We'll also give our final notes on the Oscars. We've predicted and talked about the races quite a bit, but has anything changed as we approach the finish line, and are these races as hard to predict as people say? And, we're going to be sharing some interview with clips with Neeson and the rest of the cast and crew.

Jason is about 99.9% sure on his final prefix (and Best Supporting Actress seems even more uncertain than Best Picture), while Chris is still nursing a Best Picture prediction he made nearly one year ago. Pride is on the line as we close in on the finish line of this most competitive and uncertain Oscar race in years. And our heroes, sadly, can only guess the final outcome.
