Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Jeff Zweerink as they discuss ground-breaking scientific discoveries that have theological and philosophical implications, including for the evidence of God's existence. Pig Organs in Humans Recently, research teams from NYU Langone Health, the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and the University of Maryland independently achieved milestones by transplanting kidneys and hearts from genetically engineered pigs into brain-dead patients and terminally ill patients otherwise ineligible for transplants. Xenotransplantation holds the promise to ease the demand for organ transplants but raises a host of ethical questions. In this episode, biochemist Fuz Rana discusses the technical challenges that xenotransplantation must overcome before it can move into the clinical setting. He also describes some of the ethical challenges associated with xenotransplants. Once these challenges are overcome, the questions remain: What should the Christian perspective be on xenotransplantation? Should we “play God”? Researchers currently utilize AI (artificial intelligence) to diagnose early-stage Alzheimer's, analyze vast databases to discover protein-folding classes (and new protein folds), and determine whether a sample is biotic or abiotic in origin. The AI in the last example also differentiated between recent biotic and fossilized biotic samples. As AI development progresses, one wonders whether it will be able to do science rather than just assist scientists. Fuz and Jeff explore this question in light of recent advances. How in the world did a biochemist with a Muslim father find his saving grace through Jesus Christ? Fazale “Fuz” Rana is president, CEO, and senior scholar of Reasons to Believe (RTB), an organization dedicated to communicating the powerful scientific case for God's existence and the Bible's reliability to both Christians and non-Christians. Though he initially embraced the evolutionary paradigm, he eventually drew the conclusion that only a Creator's involvement could explain the elegance of biochemical systems. But how? In this midweek podcast episode, Dan sits down with Fuz (a former agnostic) to discuss how science and faith intricately work together, ultimately pointing to the reality of intelligent design. Why did Fuz lose interest in Islam? What led him to embrace the Gospel message? How did biochemistry dislodge Fuz's materialistic worldview? What ultimately led him to partner with RTB, and what is the hopeful future of this innovative apologetics ministry? Dan and Fuz will address all of these questions and MUCH more in this heartfelt (but informative) episode! To view the entire VIDEO PODCAST be sure to join our CrossExamined private community. It's the perfect place to jump into some great discussions with like-minded Christians while simultaneously providing financial support for our ministry. You can also SUPPORT THE PODCAST HERE.
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and astronomer David Block as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, including the reality of God's existence. Purpose in Cosmology and Biology Is the fine-tuning of the universe limited to the constants of physics or does it manifest in other areas of science such as chemistry, biochemistry, and biology? In this episode, David and Fuz describe and discuss the anthropic principle and its theological implications. They also discuss the idea of process structuralism, an evolutionary model that maintains that physical forces—not natural selection—shaped the history of life. How does this view of the evolutionary process intersect with the anthropic principle? And how do these two ideas provide evidence for design and purpose in the universe and life? Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Sy Garte as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, including the reality of God's existence. LUCA's Complexity A research team from the US and the UK discovered that LUCA (the last universal common ancestor) was perhaps more complex than contemporary bacteria and archaea. They used an approach based on physiological features instead of the gene set encoded in LUCA's DNA. In the abstract of their paper, the researchers write: “Our results depict LUCA as likely to be a far more complex cell than has previously been proposed, challenging the evolutionary model of increased complexity through time in prokaryotes. Given current estimates for the emergence of LUCA we suggest that early life very rapidly evolved considerable cellular complexity.” In this episode, Fuz and Sy explore the far-reaching scientific implications of this work, which challenges the mainstream perspective about the mode and tempo for the origin and early evolution of life. They also discuss this work's implications for the design argument and its confirmation of a key prediction of RTB's origin of life model. While the biological theory of evolution has been successful and made major progress since Darwin's day, there remain fundamental gaps in the theory that have yet to be addressed. These include (1) a mathematical expression in the form of an evolutionary law that isn't tautological or merely descriptive; (2) a more precise definition of fitness; and (3) investigations into the origins of consciousness, human behavior, and other higher functions that appear to be due to things beyond selection of genetic variants. Further explanations of these, as well as of thresholds and discontinuities during evolution, might require the inclusion of paradigms such as teleology and agency in biological science, with theological implications. Fuz Rana, President and CEO of Reasons to Believe, joins the podcast to discuss the troubling issue of human trafficking. Fuz has seen first hand the traumatic effects of trafficking, and has also seen what the Gospel can do to drastically change the lives of those affected. We also hear what it was like growing up in a house with a Muslim father and Catholic mother. And we dive in to the work life of a biochemist, evolution vs. creation, why become a scientist, and more in this jam packed episode!
In this classic show from the archives, atheist scientist Adam Rutherford and Christian biochemist Fazale (Fuz) Rana of Reasons To Believe, discuss the scientific advances in attempting to create simple synthetic life in the laboratory and how this research may be of benefit. Fuz contends that the amount of ingenuity and intelligence required to produce life in the lab lends strong support to the view that life on earth is a product of an intelligent mind. Adam Rutherford, author of the book "Creation: The Future of life" disagrees. Cognitive Bias Studies Research demonstrates that people remember the challenges they face more than the benefits they enjoy. This “headwinds/tailwinds asymmetry” helps explain why both political parties see the electoral college as favoring the other party, why most people see their favorite team as having the most difficult schedule, and why children routinely characterize parents as favoring other siblings. Unfortunately, this asymmetry contributes to a darker side of human behavior in that people who perceive greater challenges and obstacles are more inclined to endorse morally questionable behavior. The Bible helps prevent this asymmetry and provides a prescription to encourage moral behavior. Fine-Tuned DNA Structure Every detail about the structure of DNA is precisely as it must be for life to be possible, reflecting a type of molecular fine-tuning. This fine-tuning comes into focus when biochemists ask “why” questions, such as: Why is DNA made up of the four nucleobases, (adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine) and not some other set of nucleobases? A chemist from Trinity University Dublin provided insight into this question by demonstrating that the set of nucleobases in DNA uniquely minimizes the harmful impact of a phenomenon called tautomerism, revealing a rationale for the composition of this important biomolecule. This insight raises additional questions: How should we account for the ingenuity and fine-tuning of DNA's structure? Is it the outworking of a historically contingent evolutionary process, or do these features point to a Creator's handiwork? Jeff and Fuz discuss these important topics in this episode of Stars, Cells, and God. Neanderthal Brains Are human beings unique and exceptional? A large collaborative team from Germany recently explored this question by examining the behavior of three proteins that play a role in cell division and are expressed at high levels in the developing cells of the brain's neocortex. As it turns out, the modern human versions of these proteins have small but significant differences in their amino acid sequences compared to the mouse, Neanderthal, and Denisovan versions. The research team determined that, because of these differences, the cell division process in human brain cells occurs much more reliably than in the corresponding cells in mice, Neanderthals, and Denisovans. This discovery points to differences in brain development in modern humans and Neanderthals, suggesting cognitive differences between the two. First Exoplanet The James Webb Space Telescope recently imaged its first exoplanet, and researchers found that the telescope was ten times more sensitive than expected. How Mars Lost Its Water Of all the solar system bodies, Mars is the place most likely to have hosted life in the past. However, compared to Earth, Mars now has a small atmosphere and minimal water. The reasons Mars lost its water and atmosphere highlight the seemingly unique capacity of Earth to support life. Adaptation & Providence Recently, a large team of collaborators headed up by researchers from the University of California, Santa Cruz highlighted another mechanism that they think contributes to organisms' ability to adapt: introgression—the introduction of genetic material into the gene pool of another species through interbreeding or hybridization. Insights such as this latest one are often viewed as prima facie evidence for life's evolutionary history. Can discoveries such as this be viewed as legitimate from a creation model standpoint? RNA Assembly on Glass Recently, a research team from the Foundation for Applied Molecular Evolution (FAME), led by origin-of-life researcher Steve Benner, demonstrated that ribonucleotide building blocks could be assembled into RNA polymers (around 90 to 300 subunits in size) by glass catalysts. The research team maintains that their findings add fresh support for the RNA world hypothesis, making it that much more reasonable to think that life arose on Earth via chemical evolution. Is their conclusion valid? In this episode of Stars, Cells, and God, Fuz and Jeff discuss these important topics. “Hamd olsun o Allah'a ki, O vermişti, O aldı!..” Hazreti Eyyûb'a (aleyhisselam) bir söz nispet edilir, mev'ize kitaplarında. “Dürretü'l-vâizîn” ve “Dürretü'n-nâsihîn” gibi kitaplarda Hazreti Pîr'in de “Sabır kahramanı” dediği o zâtın (aleyhisselam) genel durumu, sergüzeştisi anlatılırken, bütün musibetler ve dünyevî kayıplar karşısında اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَعْطَى فَأَخَذَ “Hamdolsun o Allah'a ki, O vermişti, O aldı.” sözünü tekrar ettiği belirtilir. Mal gider, dudaklarından dökülen söz odur; اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَعْطَى فَأَخَذَ “Hamdolsun o Allah'a ki, O vermişti, O aldı!” (Antrparantez; sizin şu anda Türkiye'deki Hizmet'iniz açısından dillendirebileceğiniz bir mülahaza.) Evlâd u ıyâl gider, O yine aynı sözü söyler. Belki şeytan vesvese vermeye çalışmıştır. Çünkü ayet-i kerimede şöyle buyurulmaktadır:

Mass Extinction & Enduring Life The Chicxulub impact event occurred when an asteroid at least 10 kilometers in diameter struck the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico 66,038,000 years ago. The impact energy, equivalent to three billion times the combined energies of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, immediately ignited massive volcanic eruptions around the world. A new study shows that the impact resulted in huge amounts of sulfur aerosols ejected into and above the stratosphere. This ejection caused severe global cooling lasting for several years, which amplified the mass extinction of life. There is now no doubt that the Chicxulub impact event drove at least 75 percent of Earth's species to extinction. This mass extinction and the mass speciation event that quickly followed compensated for the Sun's increasing brightness. This paved the way for the introduction of the advanced plants and animals that would make global human civilization possible, and provided an example of God's creation activities described in Psalm 104:29–30. Biochemical Finite State Machines In June of 2021, a team of life scientists reported the discovery of the first-ever biochemical finite-state machine (FSM) when they characterized the gait of the single-celled ciliate Euplotes. This discovery makes it possible to present a revitalized Watchmaker argument for God's existence and fulfills the Watchmaker prediction. It also leads to a new way to view biochemical systems that has profound theological implications. In this episode Hugh and Fuz discuss these important topics. Cell membranes are incredibly complex biochemical suprasystems composed of hundreds of different types of lipids. Is there any rhyme or reason to the compositional makeup of cell membranes or do they merely reflect the outworking of historically contingent evolution? In this episode, Fuz Rana discusses a recent study that reveals the rationale for the compositional complexity of cell membranes, highlighting that these systems display an organization and compositional fine-tuning that can be marshaled to make a case for intelligent design. The standard model of particle physics stands as an incredibly robust model of the universe with great explanatory power. Yet scientists know it is incomplete. New measurements of the W boson mass might provide clues about how to extend the standard model. Will the new measurements hold up under further scrutiny? Will they provide ways to explain dark matter and other holes in the standard model? In this episode Fuz and Jeff discuss these important topics. The Milky Way Galaxy's supermassive black hole is exceptionally small, about 35 times less massive than spiral galaxies of a similar size. The first-achieved image of its event horizon by the Event Horizon Telescope reveals an exceptionally quiet radiation level. What is the intensity and variability of our galaxy's supermassive black hole's radiation just outside its event horizon? What do this intensity and variability imply for advanced civilization on Earth? How much longer can we count on our galaxy's supermassive black hole being quiet enough for civilization on Earth? For many people, the shared ERV sequences in the human and great ape genomes evince common ancestry and an evolutionary origin for humanity. Yet, new discoveries about the physiological role of ERVs suggest another interpretation of ERVs in the human genome. Biochemist Fuz Rana discusses the latest insight into ERV molecular biology and explores the question: “Can a creation model explain the occurrence of ERV sequences in the human genome?” In this episode, Hugh and Fuz discuss these important topics.
Join Hugh Ross and Fazale “Fuz” Rana as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, as well as new discoveries that point to the reality of God's existence. An interdisciplinary, international team of 33 scientists states that “life was seeded here on Earth by life-bearing comets as soon as conditions on Earth allowed it.” However, their assertion requires that prebiotic chemistry has been operating ubiquitously throughout the universe for near-infinite time and that “the entire galaxy (and perhaps a local group of galaxies) constitutes a single connected biosphere.” Do astronomical observations support the team's assertion and their hypothesis that life, viruses, genes, or life molecules could survive interstellar space travel? One of the defining features of life is the ability to self-replicate. How did chemical evolutionary processes generate self-replicating systems? To address this question, origin-of-life investigators seek to create self-replicating RNA molecules through a process called in vitro evolution. A team of Japanese scientists evolved a network of self-replicating RNA molecules from a clonal population of self-replicating RNAs. What does this work mean for evolutionary models for the origin of life—and what does it mean for RTB's creation model? In this episode, Hugh and Fuz discuss these important topics. Bu video 29/01/2017 tarihinde yayınlanan "HİZMET'İN ALTI ESASI" isimli bamtelinden alınmıştır. Tamamı burada: https://www.herkul.org/bamteli/bamtel... Muhammed Bahâuddîn Nakşibendi hazretlerinin yolunda dört şeyi terk etmek lazımdır; bu esas, şu Farisî beyitle ifade edilmiştir: “Der tarîk-i Nakşibendî lâzım âmed çâr terk / Terk-i dünya, terk-i ukbâ, terk-i hestî, terk-i terk.” “Dünyayı kesben değil, kalben terk etmek lazımdır.” Bir: Terk-i dünya; dünyayı terk etmek. Bütün dünya elinden gitse, Eyyûbvârî, yiğitçe, اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَعْطَى، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ der; “Hamdolsun âlemlerin Rabbi O Allah'a ki, bir zaman verdi, vermekle imtihan etti; bir de almakla imtihan etti; iki imtihan. Verdiğinde O'nu hamd u senâ ile taçlandırdım; inşaallah, nezd-i ulûhiyette hora geçmiştir. “Eder münkirâne ta'ne-i şimşir-i hûn efşân / Döker kan, yakar can, onun derdi şöhret ü şan.” Evet, “Eder münkirâne ta'ne-i şimşir-i hûn efşân.” Kan döken mızrağını, saplar herkesin bağrına; kendi hesabına yakar bütün milletin canını. Döker kan, yakar can; onun derdi, hevâsı, hevesi, şöhret ü şân. Evet, böyle bir terk-i dünya.

Join Fazale “Fuz” Rana and visiting scholar Kyle Keltz as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, as well as new discoveries that point to the reality of God's existence. Many skeptics regard animal pain and suffering and the seemingly cruel, gratuitous death of animals in nature as fundamentally incompatible with God's existence, or at least with God's goodness. These complaints assume God doesn't have good reasons to create a world with animal death, pain, and suffering. But is that true? In this episode, Fuz discusses one of those good reasons. Recent work indicates that wolf predation keeps moose populations at their zenith of health by removing individuals suffering from infectious agents and genetic diseases. A 1991 study of wild chimpanzees found they're able to use drumming to signal changes of direction and resting periods to their group members. This year an animal cognition researcher argues this evidence suggests chimpanzees can use language in humanlike ways by combining drumming in different sequences to create new meaning. . However, other current research into great apes suggests their capacity for communication is largely innate and biologically inherited. So, can chimpanzees create meaning like humans can, or are they like the great apes who have inherited this capacity? In this episode, Fuz and Kyle discuss these important topics.

Episode Description: Join Hugh Ross and Fazale “Fuz” Rana as they discuss new discoveries taking place at the frontiers of science that have theological and philosophical implications, as well as new discoveries that point to the reality of God's existence. Scientists have used gravitational lensing to detect a single or binary star, named Earendel, in a galaxy 12.9 billion light-years away. This detection is 3.5 billion light-years more distant than the previously most distant star. According to the big bang creation model, predicted by the Bible, stars that form early in cosmic history will be different from stars that form later. So, is the measured luminosity and mass of Earendel consistent with this model? Historical contingency holds that evolutionary histories should rarely lead to identical or nearly identical outcomes. Yet biologists have uncovered an inordinate number of examples of convergence. One recently discovered example is the independent origins of aquatic skin adaptations in whales and hippos. What does the widespread occurrence of convergence mean for the creation/evolution debate? In this episode, Hugh and Fuz discuss these important topics.
