Deborah MacNamara, a highly experienced developmentalist, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the field of parenting and child development. With a PhD and years of working alongside renowned author Gordon Neufeld, she has dedicated her career to understanding how children grow and thrive. Deborah's extensive background in academia, counseling, and teaching has allowed her to deeply immerse herself in the study of human development for nearly two decades. As a faculty member at the esteemed Neufeld Institute, she continues to contribute to the field through her research, writing, and online presence. Drawing from her personal experiences with highly sensitive children, Deborah's work resonates with families of complex kids, providing them with valuable insights and guidance. Listen to this Parenting With Impact episode with Deborah MacNamara about adapting as a parent. Top 12 Tips To Help Your Complex Kids Got complex kids? Yeah, so do we. Parenting a complex kid can be frustrating, overwhelming, and isolating. It can also be incredibly rewarding -- with the right help and guidance! This FREE insider's guide from the experts at ImpactParents includes our top 12 tips to help you create a calm, peaceful home and guide your kids to become more independent every day. Here is what to expect on this week's show: The developmentalist approach, explained by Deborah McNamara, focuses on understanding human development and its connection to parenting. This approach emphasizes helping children grow and thrive, and understanding what parents need to do to support their child's development. Parenting complex kids can be a challenging and rewarding journey. These complex kids require parents to adapt and be flexible to understand their unique needs. Parenting, in general, is an adaptive endeavor, but it becomes even more apparent when raising children with complex needs. The key to adaptation lies in keeping our hearts warm and maintaining a sense of care and patience, even in the face of frustration and stress. Neurodivergent development explores the challenges faced by parents of neurodivergent children. Deborah emphasizes the importance of creating supportive environments and providing structure, routine, and boundaries to help these children develop their identity and navigate the world. Trial and error is crucial for neurodivergent individuals to navigate their lives and find their passions. By giving them opportunities to be the answer to something, such as through volunteer work or involvement in a community, they can develop a sense of identity and learn appropriate behavior. The topic of holding on to kids while allowing them to let go explores the long-term relationship between parents and their children. Deborah emphasizes the importance of this throughout their development, from infancy to adulthood. She finds inspiration in Gordon and Gabbar's book, "Hold on to Your Kids." Holding on to our children means providing support and guidance, even when we are not physically present. It involves instilling our values and fostering a healthy and independent relationship. Dabangg is a blockbuster story with the right emotions. Harish Shankar just took the basic story and adapted it to our Telugu sensibilities to perfection. The difference here is the addition of the Antyakshari scene and then in Hindi, Mahesh Manjrekar dies but in this one Kota lives and they changed that aspect of romantic track. Writing I Felt was decent and its basically like watching a Puri Jagan movie where hero character carries entire movie and dialogues are like bullets. Movie is entertaining and it Like it keeps the movie going but the hero villain conflict which is the only point in the film wasnt equal. Gabbar Singh is always ahead of Sidhappa Naidu. But much like Dabangg where Salman Khan carried the movie, its the same thing here. Its out and out Pawan Kalyan mania from start ti finish. He carries every single scene with his timing and charisma and dominates everybody. Its true one man show. Literally without Pawan this movie is nothing. There is entertainment in each and every single but I guess on rewatch, the emotional connect just wasnt there. The Antyahkshi scene was the bumper offer here basically. That scene isn't in the original but here it was the scene that elevated the movie to blockbuster I feel. And the situation for it happen was Sidhappa tells Gabbar that he will make him get a heart attack. Next day he checks the watch and realizes something is off so he kidnaps the entire villains gang. Meaning he could have put that scene just for entertainment but he actually added stakes and purpose to it which made it even better, In a commercial movie like this, have to appreaicye that writing and creativity. Direction is perfect. What happened was However Harsih Shankar did what everybody or every fan dreams of. Presenting the their hero as fans would want to see him. I think due to Pawan's stardom in youth and family audience, it made the movie a blockbuster. Also unlike Bro, the references like Kushi, Gang Leader, Mutamestri, and Jalsa song references worked brilliantly and they were used partly for the situation. Not like Bro. Harish Shankar I think it's his best movie mainly due to entertainment and the way he handled the adaptation to Telugu nativity. Some scenes are brilliantly handled PK Intro scene Dekho Dekho gabbar singh song First meeting between Gabbar and Sidhappa Market fight Interval scene Antyakshari scene Brahmanandham elevation scene All of the are peak elevation scenes and give goosebumps due to the direction, PK screen presence and BGM. Technicalities: Songs by DSP are CLASSIC RAA AYYA. Each and every song is a classic. One of the best commercial albums and a huge reason for the movie being a hit I think was due to the amazing album. 6 songs, all chartbusters especially Kuvvu keka. My personal favorites are Dekho Dekho Gabbar Singh and Akasam Ammayithe. BGM is good. The main one used is the title song BGM that comes in interludes with trumpets basically. But interval scene BGM gives goosebumps. Art Direction by Brahma Kadali is OUTSTANDING. Entire RFC was redone, the market set and then street set and then Pollachi flavor and then to recreate the whole village atmosphere where the story is taking place. Carnival set in interval and then dolls and everything designed for Shruthi Hassan house and store.
Imagine the badlands of Chambal in the 70's, the setting of Sholay and Kaalia pleading to Gabbar for his life - Sardar, maine aapka namak khaya hai. Now imagine the greatest philosopher from China, Confucious reflecting about the nature of that very namak, and how should rulers rule with morality. What connects the two is Salt. This week, we trace the remarkable story of the condiment on your dinner table, and how it built one of the greatest civilisations the world has ever seen. On this weeks episode we're talking all about a movie that is renown in Bollywood cinema history and what has been referred to as a classic "curry western" film, Sholay! Directed by Ramesh Sippy and released in 1975, Sholay has become a staple in Bollywood cinema that showcases numerous genres of film all in one great story. Crime, drama, action, romance, it has it all and expands on it for more than 3 hours! What is it that keeps the story growing through all that time? We discuss this and more on our episode this week! Plot: In the village of Ramgarh, retired police chief Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar) plots to bring down the notorious bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) and enlists the help of two lesser criminals, Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra). When Gabbar attacks the village, however, Jai and Veeru wonder why Thakur does nothing to help them. They soon learn that he has no arms, and that Gabbar was the one who cut them off. Enraged by this, they redouble their efforts to help.

Folks far more accomplished and adept than me have written about the exemplary work of Professor Abhijeet Banerjee. I won't make any attempts to do so. I know my limits. In 2019 Banerjee was the co- winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics. #nuff said as the kids say these days. What you might not know, is that Abhijit da (this is what I settled on after I asked him 'should I call you Mr Banerjee, Abhijit or Abhijit da') has been cooking since the age of 15. Primarily because his mother, Nirmala Banerjee (nee Patnakar), was a feminist. No, no. She was not against women cooking. She was a great cook with a wide repertoire of dishes. Her work led her to travel a lot though which meant that Abhijit da and DB were left in the hands of the family cook. "He was a good cook, but had a limited range and hence I entered the kitchen," says Abhijit da. "I continue cooking till date. I cook everyday. I find it a great way of unwinding and putting behind whatever happened that day." Abhijit da has come out with a cookbook called 'Cooking To Save Your Life.' Demystifying cooking is a key purpose behind writing 'Cooking to Save your life,' says Abhijit da. "We wanted to move away from the picture perfect world of recipe television and talk about real life cooking instead," said Abhijit da. His associate and illustrator, Cheyenne Olivier, uses geometrical designs to show each dish. They encourage you to create your path instead and feel good about it. The book can be divided into two sections. The short section introductions, where Abhijit da gently slips in some of his socio-economic beliefs such as the need to redefine what non-vegetarian means in the Asian context and the need to look beyond basmati and seek out indigenous grains such as millets and seasonal rice; and the relevance of both in the context of sustainability.. The other, constituting the bulk of the book, are his recipes. These cover multiple genres reflecting the distinguished and colouful path that his life has traversed. Each preceded by a tongue in cheek scenario where Abhijit da lets the aspiring humourist in him loose. Do watch our chat till the end to figure out why Abhijit da recommends cooking his kabuli pullao in Gabbar's den.

Think of the movie Sholay and the first character that comes to the mind is Gabbar. You can't visualize the Bollywood Blockbuster movie Sholay without mentioning the name of Gabbar who happened to be the villain in the movie. He brought that charm to the movie. Ramayana would not have happened without Ravana. Without the villain Ravana, Lord Rama and Sita would have spent their time in the forests and happily got back to Ayodhya to rule the Kingdom. It was Ravana who made us realize the greatness of Lord Shri Ram and the prowess of Hanuman. Christianity would have never born without Judas. It was because Judas betrayed Jesus that he was caught. Jesus was then crucified. But for him being crucified he would have never resurrected. Due to the act of resurrection Christianity was born. For Christianity to be born Jesus had to resurrect and for him to resurrect he had to be crucified and him to be crucified he had to be betrayed. It was the act of betrayal of Judas which led to the birth of Christianity. When Bible says love thy enemies is because Jesus understood that without an enemy heroes are never born. In fact all the Indian scriptures taught this much before the advent of Christianity into the planet earth. When I see people fretting and fuming about those who had betrayed them, let them down and cheated them I want to reach out to each one of them and say, my dear friend for you to be a hero in your life there had to be villains. Without those people you would have never become a hero in your life. Most of the turning points of our life happened because someone chose to let us down and from those moments of disaster we scripted our life story. In fact it is not a friend of yours who allowed you to express the true strength of your character or let you exhibit your tenacity but on the contrary it was that villain of your life who made you strong and tough. For you to become a hero there had to be few villains in your life. Drop the hatred and in fact be grateful to them for having shown the true “You” to “You” Wishing you an awesome week. Loving you.
