Hunter and Jessica are back to break down the intense pressure of Andor Season 2, Episode 10, "Make it Stop". The timeline has officially jumped to one year before the Battle of Yavin, and poor double-agent Lonnie is absolutely "shook". After being buttered up by a surprisingly gentle Luthen on a very public Coruscant park bench, Lonnie finally delivers the ultimate Rogue One setup, dropping the intel on the Empire's kyber crystal strip-mining operation, Jedha, and a guy named Galen Erso. Sadly, it's RIP for Lonnie, though at least a Dave Filoni-approved Loth cat is the one to find his body. Meanwhile, Dedra Meero smarmily struts into the antique shop thinking she's finally trapped her rebel spy, only to discover Luthen has melted his comms with acid and literally stabbed himself to avoid interrogation. Hunter and Jessica question Luthen's incredibly messy methods, debating whether a Mandalorian-style poison pill would have been a much smarter play. Ultimately, Dedra's solo ambition completely blows up in her face, resulting in her getting arrested and questioned by her very own newly-promoted assistant. But the real MVP of the episode is Kleya. The hosts dissect her tragic backstory of witnessing Imperial executions as a child and her progression into a hardened rebel. In the present timeline, she pulls off a masterclass hospital infiltration by stealing scrubs, hijacking a hovering space-wheelchair, and casually abandoning an elderly alien grandmother to sneak past security. It all leads to a heartbreaking final sequence where Kleya must finish the job, crying as she pulls the plug on Luthen's life support. Plus, stick around for the hosts' quick thoughts on the upcoming Andor comic bridge to Rogue One, Darth Maul's glorious return in Shadow Lord, and the countdown to The Mandalorian and Grogu.Join us on Facebook: The Purrgil Pod. Send us a textThe rebellion's darkest hour becomes Star Wars' finest achievement in Andor Season 2's concluding episodes. We dive deep into how Tony Gilroy crafted a masterclass in tension, political intrigue, and character development that forever changes our understanding of the Star Wars universe. The Gorman massacre stands as perhaps the most haunting sequence ever created in Star Wars - a perfectly constructed trap that shows the Empire's ruthless calculus and leaves us questioning how we'd respond in similar circumstances. This leads to fascinating discussions about Syril Karn's moral journey: is his horror at witnessing genocide enough to redeem his previous actions, or does his confrontation with Dedra only further complicate his character?Mon Mothma emerges as the unexpected MVP of these episodes, delivering a Senate speech that rivals anything in the franchise for political tension. The procedural details - senators yielding their time, parliamentary maneuvers - create an authenticity rarely seen in science fiction. This groundwork makes her eventual leadership of the Rebellion all the more earned and meaningful. The Force makes its first significant appearance through the mysterious healer who identifies Cassian as a "messenger" - a subtle but powerful reminder that even in this grounded take on Star Wars, cosmic forces still guide the galaxy's fate. Meanwhile, Luthen's capture and Kleya's difficult decision to ensure he doesn't fall into Imperial hands delivers emotional devastation without feeling manipulative.Perhaps most satisfying is how perfectly these episodes connect to Rogue One, answering questions we didn't even know we had. From Cassian's pre-existing knowledge of Galen Erso to his partnership with the newly-reprogrammed K-2SO, every element enriches our understanding of his journey toward Scarif. The show demonstrates how prequels should function - not just filling gaps, but transforming our perspective on what comes after. Why does this series resonate so deeply? Because it never forgets that resistance requires sacrifice, that freedom fighters aren't always heroic, and that hope often comes at terrible cost. Andor depicts the messy, complicated birth of a rebellion with unflinching honesty - proving that Star Wars can deliver sophisticated adult storytelling without sacrificing what made us fall in love with this galaxy far, far away.Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbASupport the show
Here's what got us asking “what's the plan, Alderaan”. Maybe you've heard it before : “I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.” Okay but what was the plan here? And then what was the original plan before that plan? Join us as we ask the serious questions about just what was supposed to happen and what if 3PO didn't get in the escape pod AND what if Galen Erso lived? In this video, Liam and Sanak predict the final arc of Andor Season 2, set in 1 BBY and leading directly into the events of Rogue One. In it, they discuss how much sway Rogue One will have in the conclusion of the Andor story, how Cassian will work through his final years with K-2SO re-programmed by his side but Bix gone, how Dedra may get further involved with the Death Star work alongside Krennic but could die by the hand of Luthen (and vice-versa), what the role of Mon Mothma and Bail Organa looks like after her escape, if characters with Rogue One backstory like Galen Erso and Bodhi Rook will appear, and if Saw Gerrera gets to have the most plot-heavy and centered storytelling in this final arc of the show.

What can one say about Rogue One that hasn't already been said. Releasing almost a year after The Force Awakens, anticipation was high for the franchise's first theatrical spinoff attempt. Nowadays I can't remember if going into the theater, everyone knew the story would be about how the rebels managed to steal the plans for the Death Star. I seem to remember the plot to the DOOM clone Dark Forces involved kidnapping the character General Nadine (who would be seen on screen for the first time in a terrible fake beard in Return of the Jedi). I'm most likely wrong but, I vaguely remember that the reason Kyle Katarn kidnaps Nadine is because he's the one Imperial who defects and helps the fledgling alliance steal the plans in the first place. Kyle Katarn is also the first character in the Star Wars Universe to utilize the now legendary Bryar Pistol that Cassian Andor also carries as his sidearm. The impetus for the film originates in a throw away line in A New Hope. We all know Leia hides the plans for the Death Star in R2-D2 but, we never learn how she came to acquire them until now. We learn the weakness in the Death Star was a design flaw engineered by it's captive creator Galen Erso portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen. Excellent performance by an excellent actor who at this point in his career, has portrayed more villains than heroes. Here he does a great job and with the death of wife Lyra, his character has all the motivation he needs to plot his revenge over the twenty plus years of construction of the deadliest weapon every conceived. I think by far everyone's favorite character ending up being K-2SO portrayed by Alan Tudyk. Even though he's portraying a droid, there was more humanity in the lines delivered by Tudyk's motion capped performance than the rest of cast combined. Of course it was also really cool to see Darth Vader in a movie other than the the original trilogy. James Earl Jones does a great job with his limited lines. Director Krennic portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn also does a fantastic job portraying an evil character. I think it was Chris Stuckmann who really loved how Mendelsohn chewed the scenery and went FULL EVIL VILLAIN in the scenes he was in. Well done to the casting director that hired him. My favorite scene was of course the naval battle at the end. Especially when Admiral Raddus notices the disabled Star Destroyer and uses Hammerhead Corvette to ram it which then turn it into a giant needle to pierce through the planetary shield protecting Scarif. Awesome sequence! I loved every second of it. Thank you for listening to this Special Edition of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor stole the plans to the Death Star. Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewbacca delivered the plans to the Rebel Alliance. Then Luke, using the Force, navigated the trench and destroyed the Death Star. So who's responsible for the destruction of the Death Star? It was definitely a group effort. But if you were to choose, would it be Jyn, Andor, Leia, Luke, or even someone else like Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, or Galen Erso? David and Martin attempt to answer this complex question. This week we discuss ancient history in a place not remotely near any of us. It is a time of dishevel as the Trade Federation takes negotiations to drastic levels. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to open new lines of communication, only to be hurled into a multi-planet adventure where they will discover The Space Messiah and face off against... STAR WARS: EPISODE 1- The Phantom Menace! Ten years have passed and still no Jedi has come to understand the concept of balance. Obi-Wan finds himself on a mission in a missing solar system. Anakin Skywalker finds himself getting funky with a senator in the Naboo lake area. Soon the long brewing war will boil over into full intergalactic slaughter. STAR WARS: EPISODE 2- Attack of the Clones. Three more years have come and gone. Anakin feels that not enough of his fellow Jedi kiss his butt enough, so he joins the Dark Side with little to no prompting. Obi-Wan has a side story against a robot general to take him out of the main action. Some folks love it, others do not. Still you can't argue that it's the last in the Prequel Trilogy... STAR WARS: EPISODE 3- Revenge of the Sith. Fifteen years ago Galen Erso was ripped from his hiding place to help the Empire build their ultimate weapon and his daughter, Jyn, was taken under the wing of super rebel Saw Gerrera. Since then Jyn has grown into a full tilt bad ass action hero. When Galen gets a message out about a weakness he has hidden in the ultimate weapon, Jyn gathers a team to get the plans and make sure that it is never used on the repressed planets. She gathers a team including BFFs Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe. Unfortunately, the Resistance saddles her with an incompetent babysitter named Cassian Andor. Andor is just there interrupt all character moments and incompetently stumbles in the way of every other while making sure no one ever stops thinking about better similar characters that appeared in the other movies. Andor is the fucking worst and ensures that they can't possibly succeed in Rogue One: A STAR WARS STORY. All that and Tyler feels something akin to joy, Dave's suffering manifests as actual tooth pain, and Kevin stops to smell a lot of roses as a desperate measure of holding on to his sanity.Join us, won't you?Episode 259- PADME!

This is the eighth episode in a series of looks at how the nature of hope is depicted in the Star Wars movies. Previous episodes focused on the movies in order of theatrical release, so we've already gone through the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy, and The Force Awakens to date. Today, we look at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. From the morally good and hopeful center of the movie (Galen Erso) to immoral and hopeful (Cassian), moral yet hopeless (much of the Alliance leadership), immoral and increasingly hopeless (Saw Gerrera), and finally to the person who goes from the deepest depths of hopelessness to acting on hope with the razor-thinnest of margins (Jyn), Rogue One is quite possibly the Star Wars movie that's more thoroughly driven by hope than any other. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Join the community at http://Patreon.com/sw7x7 to get access to bonus episodes and other insider rewards.***

This week on Beltway Banthas we continue our interview series, where one of our hosts interview someone of note who works in or around politics about their fandom of Star Wars. Stephen went to Hillsdale College's Kirby Center to chat with Ben Domenech, host of The Federalist Radio Hour and publisher of The Federalist. We talk about Ben's deep Star Wars roots, why Star Wars continues to be culturally compelling and also a bit about The Federalist's approach to content and Star Wars. I ask him about their piece on Galen Erso and the Death Star as an historical parallel to America's founding and monster of slavery. Ben and I also talk about Porkins, yes Porkins...as well as The Last Jedi, morality of super-weapons and why R2-D2 is his favorite character. Beltway Banthas just celebrated it's ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! We are 40 shows and 12 months deep into this podcast. For our birthday all we want is your love (Padme line wink wink) and we'd love a review or rating on iTunes. It's our second Comic-Con panel! Stephen and Swara are joined by friend of the show Nick Dicolandrea of Coffee With Kenobi to discuss “Star Wars goes to Washington,” and a bit of the international perspective of Star Wars as well. In our live panel at Oak City Comic-Con, we discuss political use of Star Wars from the 1980s to modern day, why it resonates with people of various political persuasions, and we even delve into some international political perceptions of Star Wars. In the Q&A section, our awesome audience joined us in a conversation of topics such as: Who in politics reminds of Galen Erso, and how do we think of the term “rebel” in the context of being in the American South. Take a listen and be part of the ongoing conversation on the politics of Star Wars!
On this episode Chris, Ben, and Dominic pay their respects to the late Kenny Baker by discussing the legacy that he has left on Star Wars. Then Dominic chats with Jamie Stangroom (These Are the Actors You're Looking For, AMC's Geeking Out) about his experience working for The Star Wars Show Live stream at Celebration Europe a few weeks ago. Then the guys break down the Future Filmmakers panel from Celebration. They discuss Rian Johnson's comments about Episode VIII, the casting of Alden Ehrenreich as young Han Solo, and the general atmosphere of the panel and the culture at Lucasfilm. Plus, they look at the new international Rogue One trailer and discuss what it might tell us about Galen Erso. All this and much more!
