Keeper Of The Greens segment of The Golfing Greenkeeper Podcast is brought to you by John Deere Golf. When you work where others play, you need a partner you can trust to keep your course in perfect condition. Find your nearest John Deere dealer at deere.com.auDion Cope is Superintendent of Redland Bay Golf Club in south east Brisbane in Queensland. He has had a long fruitful career in greenkeeping to get to where he is today which includes a number of years working in Asia. From first mowing a green at the age of 10, Dion was exposed to the trade of greenkeeping through his father. Growing up around greenkeeping didn't mean it would be Dion's chosen field, turns out he had a second significant vocation, rugby league! Dion received a contract through the Cronulla Sharks rugby league team in his early years, and through that, he was also able to work as a greenkeeper at the local Cronulla Golf Club. Dion eventually left the greenkeeping industry to pursue a career in rugby league for a while before a return to the industry at Ashgrove Golf Club in Brisbane. It was from here, and on the eve of being married, that Dion would get an opportunity to manage the large 54 hole golf facility of Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort in Malaysia. A number of years, a couple of clubs, and two children later, Dion and his family were to move back to Australia. Dion went through a few different work places in Australia before arriving and leading the team as Superintendent at Redland Bay Golf Club. He and the course team have been working through a greens replacement program to TifEagle putting surfaces as the club continues to improve the quality of their golf offering.Join Dion and myself for this sizable yarn into the depths of Redland Bay Golf Club, his greenkeeping career, the ups and downs of life, his structured and methodical approach to golf course management, and just listening to a great person from two fantastic industries greenkeeping and football! You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - thegolfinggreenkeeper@gmail.comPeople and places mentioned in this podcast:Redland Bay Golf ClubCraigieburn - Wilmott Golf ClubOcean Shores Country ClubMeadowbrook Golf ClubRiverlakes Golf ClubCronulla SharksAndrew Ettingshausen (ET) - WikiCronulla Golf ClubRoyal Pines ResortAshgrove Golf ClubTunjong Puteri Golf ResortISO 9001Glenmarie Golf & Country ClubEP.44 Keeper of the Greens - Mick PascoeMt Warren Park Golf Club

From the $550 calculator watches of the 1970s to today’s free online tools, we’ve always relied on numbers to help us make decisions. But when it comes to retirement, not every “calculator” gives you the full picture. In this episode, Greg and Kristen share why online tools—and even AI—can be misleading, how one client discovered that firsthand, and why professional guidance matters when the stakes are high. Plus, they compare finding the “right” retirement age to playing a tricky hole on the golf course: everyone starts from a similar place, but the path you take can look very different depending on the clubs in your bag. What does the Ryder Cup, a 5AM dog fight, and emotional resilience have in common? This episode is raw, real, and packed with insight into one of the most critical traits for any leader: emotional control. ⚔️ Whether it's abuse from the crowd, pressure from business, or chaos at home how you respond matters. ⚔️ In this episode, I dive into what we can learn from high-pressure performers like Rory McIlroy, how to channel emotion rather than be ruled by it, and why your emotional state either builds your legacy or burns it to the ground. We're talking: ✅ Storms in life vs. systems that carry you through ✅ Why “why me?” is a dead-end question ✅ The power of letting actions not reactions do the talking ✅ What your emotions are costing you without structure and awareness This one's for the man who leads or wants to. Listen in. Lock in. And learn how to lead through the storm.
Episode Title: Operation Golf Club Entrapment Pt. 1Episode SummaryAaron and Devin return with updates on their fitness journeys and an unexpected development: Aaron has actually ridden his bike to work twice (before school schedule changes made it impossible). Devin shares his calf injury saga from pushing too hard in marathon training, though he's recovered with just weeks before the big race. Both hosts continue their intermittent fasting journeys with surprising consistency. The episode takes a dramatic turn when Aaron and Brian Duncan execute "Operation Golf Club Entrapment" - leaving a complete set of clubs on Devin's patio while he's away. What follows is a spirited debate about whether Devin should take up golf for business development purposes, complete with counteroffers and negotiations. The conversation shifts to more serious territory as Aaron voices concerns about his son's school requiring iPad use for everything - homework, assignments, announcements - with zero paper alternatives. This sparks a broader discussion about technology addiction, the damage done to the "iPad generation," and whether schools are making things worse by mandating constant screen time while parents try to limit it at home.Episode DescriptionWhen golf clubs appear on your patio and iPads dominate your kid's education.Join Aaron and Devin for an episode covering calf injuries, intermittent fasting wins, and the great golf club ambush of 2025. It was a memorable weekend for Connacht golf at Athlone Golf Club as Claremorris and Gort claimed their first AIG Pierce Purcell Shield and Women's Intermediate Foursomes Championships respectively. Gort claimed victory in the Women's Intermediate Foursomes. Having eased past Monkstown 3.5–0.5 in Friday's semi-final, they maintained that form against Munster West champions, Ballyneety in the final. Petra O'Connor and Sinead Collins set the tone with a 6&5 win, before Joan Fogarty and Sara Broderick quickly doubled the advantage by taking their match 7&5. Jane Joyce and Geraldine Connors then secured the half point needed, shaking hands on the 14th green to confirm victory and a first AIG Women's Intermediate Foursomes title for the Galway club. “We weren't expecting to get this far but it's absolutely fantastic for our team,” said Gort team captain Hannah McInerney. “We're just thrilled and very proud of this team. They put a lot of teamwork and dedication into it.” “We have some very seasoned golfers that would be used to match play and then we have a few golfers that are new to golf. One of the women in our first match is two years playing golf so a nice mix.” Team Captain Hannah McInerney spoke to John Mulligan on Saturday Sport.

Roderick Ritchie, the current course chairman at Utrechtse Golf Club, joins us today to explore the evolving story of 'de Pan' and what can be learned from the sort of careful and considered custodianship on show at Bosch en Duin. UGC is one of Europe's best golf courses... hidden away amongst a sandy expanse of heather and pine in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, a nature reserve of some 120 hectares, originally formed by glacial sand deposition during the last ice age. 'de Pan' was Harry Colt's second design commission in the Netherlands. Initially opened in 1929 as a 9 hole course which was extended to 18 in 1932. Listeners who have sampled the delights of the Greater London Heathlands will recognise and appreciate the golfing charms that await them at UGC. We hope you enjoy our chat!
