In this episode of A Really Good Cry, I speak with Dr. Mindy Pelz, a fasting researcher, bestselling author, and expert in women’s health. Dr. Pelz shares the latest science on what happens in the body after a fast—and why your first meal can significantly influence the results of your fasting routine. We explore how fasting impacts the gut microbiome, the types of foods that support recovery and metabolic health post-fast, and which foods can diminish the benefits of your efforts. Dr. Pelz also discusses the role of fermented foods and essential minerals like magnesium and zinc in optimizing fasting outcomes. You’ll gain insight into common fasting mistakes, how fasting protocols should differ between men and women, and how stress and hormonal shifts—especially during menopause—affect digestion and nutrient absorption. Whether you’re new to fasting or refining your approach, this episode offers evidence-based strategies to help you break your fast in a way that supports long-term health and vitality. Huut is je würkli 'n gediegenen Krom, ne. Fröher heff ick mi dor gor keen Gedanken över mokt. Un an leevsten wurr ick mi dor jümmers noch keen Gedanken över moken. Intwüschen heff ick dat overs mit twee ünnerschedliche Effekte to kriegen, wat mien Pelz angeiht: To'n een ward mien Huut ümmer knitteriger, besüners in't Gesicht un an de Hannen, un to'n annern spannt mi de Pell‘ in de Snut mitünner so dull, as wurr ick dor gor ni mehr rinpassen. Besünners morns no't Duschen is dat so. Also ick kinn echt keen annered Materiol, dat Falten smitt un gliektiedig to ing is. Nu kümmt düssed Geföhl, dat mien Huut spannt overs ni direkt no't Duschen. Dor is 'n Tiedzünder bin. So no'n halve Stünn loter, wenn ick al lang ut‘ Huus bün, geiht dat los. Noch dorto föhlt sick dat an, as harr ick Sandpoppier in't Gesicht. Besünners över de Oogen, also op de Stiern. Dat föhlt sick fürchterli an. Dor kannst no't Inkreem‘ nix mehr anfoten. Un to all dat kümmt denn je ook noch de „Duft“. Jüst erst heff ick mi so'n scheuned, männliched Rasierwoter in't Gesicht haut, un denn, no't Inkreem rüük ick as'n Primelputt op de Tanksteed. Wo schall dat blots noch henföhrn? Kann ni eenfach mol irgendwat in Ordnung blieven, wenn dat in Ordung is? Tscha mi dücht, öller warrn is 'n Reis‘ in't Ungewisse… In düssen Sinn

Dr Mindy Pelz is back on the show talking about what foods to break your fast with, the fat burning potential of specific ingredients and how she thinks about cooking food for health and vitality.I love talking to various thought leaders across the health and wellbeing space, which is why I'll speak to a professor of immunology, a psychologist and a chiropractitioner all on the same podcast. You don't get many people in the nutrition space willing to engage people from other disciplines that they don't get along with.I'll be honest, some of the terminology I hear online like detox, fat burning and immune boosting does get my back up. But it's also the simple way people think about complex subjects. In a similar vein you still get medical doctors referring to cholesterol as good and bad, which is completely incorrect. So we can't be too judgmental.I love chatting with and hanging out with Mindy Pelz, she's full of energy, motivational and has helped countless women around the world take control of their health. Her new book, “eat like a girl” is a fantastic recipe book that dives into what and how we should be eating whether or not you choose to fast. We also cooked one of her recipes in the kitchen which was awesome.
Today, I am delighted to have my friend and colleague, Dr. Mindy Peltz, on the show with me for the third time. She is a well-known women's health advocate, deeply dedicated to empowering women to trust and embrace the process of natural healing within their bodies. We explore the social media incubator, how societal norms shape our self-worth, and how to eat like a girl. We also discuss using food as hormonal medicine, the role of estrobolome, and how environmental toxins are in our personal care products and food. I know you will love today's valuable, insightful, and thought-provoking conversation with Dr. Mindy Pelz. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How our childhood experiences shape our approach to food and health Dr. Mindy discusses the five principles in her latest book, Eat Like a Girl The unrealistic expectations of the diet culture and why we need a more flexible and personalized approach to food The benefits of eating fermented foods How protein is essential, especially for women who are fasting intermittently How social media impacts health habits and the dangers of following short-term trends Why women must take ownership of their health and make informed decisions based on their unique needs The link between estrogen and people-pleasing Using food as hormonal medicine The importance of minimizing exposure to exogenous estrogens and other toxins Why we need a holistic approach to health and what that includes Connect with Cynthia Thurlow Follow on Twitter Instagram LinkedIn Check out Cynthia's website Submit your questions to support@cynthiathurlow.com Connect with Dr. Mindy Pelz On her website Dr. Mindy's latest book, Eat Like a Girl, is available on Dr. Mindy's website, Amazon, Barnes and Noble Online, or from most bookstores.

Can fasting help or harm a woman? Is time-restricted eating the same as fasting, or is it different? These topics are quite controversial, and we dissect them all in today's interview with Mindy Pelz, author of Fast Like a Girl and her newest book, Eat Like a Girl. If you are trying to conceive, have your period, or are working to get it back and regulate your hormones, fasting could be the key to unlocking your goals. Mindy discusses the RIGHT way to fast because women should not be fasting like men. We dive into how to do it properly and what foods to eat during different times of the month. For those who are postmenopausal or in perimenopause, we talk about how fasting can also be beneficial during these stages of life. We explore the positive effects fasting can have on gut health, IBS, candida, SIBO, leaky gut, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and even diabetes, which is a common misconception for those with type one and type two diabetes. We also discuss whether teenagers should be fasting and at what age women should begin fasting for their health. Fasting is not only the hot topic of today's interview; the way we break a fast and our first meal coming off a fast is just as important. The first meal is not a one-size-fits-all solution, so Mindy breaks it down and shares insights about the different foods we should be consuming, seed cycling, and so much more! Topics Discussed: Should women fast? Can fasting help regulate hormones? Can not fasting harm gut health? Are low-carb diets harming women's health? Should women going through menopause practice intermittent fasting? At what age is it appropriate to begin fasting? Infertility and fasting Foods to eat during certain times of fasting How to fast during your cycle How to break a fast (foods to eat!) Benefits of fasting for gut health, IBS, SIBO, and leaky gut Time-restricted eating vs. fasting Fasting for perimenopausal and menopausal women Myths about keto, low carb, and fasting for women Fasting myths for diabetics How the body detoxes when fasting Who shouldn't fast As always, if you have any questions for the show please email us at digestthispod@gmail.com. In this moment, the fasting and hormone expert, Dr Mindy Pelz discusses how your body can show your liver health. Mindy says that there are simple ways that you can check how well your liver is function by looking at your eyes, feet and tongue. She says that If the corner of your eye is yellow it can show liver stagnation, which means that the liver will struggle to metabolise toxins like alcohol. Equally, if the bottom of your feet are dry and cracking, it shows there is not proper circulation and your liver is struggling to detox. Mindy says that some of the core reasons for this poor liver function is a lack of minerals and proper nutrients. However, this can be turned around with a mixture of fasting and getting in the right fruits and vegetables.
