Mit der Flosse an den Füßen möchte die "Formel 1 des Wassers" olympisch werden! Im August 2025 finden im chinesischen Chengdu die World Games statt. Das sind quasi die olympischen Spiele der nichtolympischen Sportarten. Eine dieser Sportarten ist Flossenschwimmen bzw. Finswimming. Flossenschwimmen ist die schnellste Möglichkeit, sich aus eigener Kraft im Wasser fortzubewegen. Dabei werden so genannte Monoflossen zur Fortbewegung verwendet. Finswimming wurde durch das IOC als olympische Disziplin anerkannt, erschien aber bisher noch nicht im olympischen Programm. Finswimming ist weniger mit der Meerjungfrau verwandt als viel mehr mit den faszinierenden Delphinen. In der Spezialausgabe der "Sportstunde" stellen die "Flossis" Volko Kucher (Cheftrainer TC fez Berlin und Landestrainer am Stützpunkt Berlin), Maxi Teichler (Vorsitzende TC fez Berlin), Johanna Schikora (Gold bei den World Games 2022 und mehrfache Welmeisterin), Lara Gawenda (mehrmalige Deutsche Meisterin) und Rémy Lebeau (französischer Meister) diese aussergewöhnliche Sportart vor, wie sie auf unterschiedlichste Art und Weise zu diesem Sport gekommen sind und welche Skills man als Athlet benötigt, um Flossenschwimmen erfolgreich ausüben zu können. Aber natürlich haben diese Randsportarten vor allem mit der Finanzierung zu kämpfen, denn vor so einem großen Ereignis wie die World Games müssen Trainingslager, Equipment und Reisen finanziert werden, um dann auch bei diesen Weltspielen konkurrenzfähig zu sein. Zu diesem Zweck startete der TC fez Berlin eine Crowd Funding-Kampagne (www.toyota-crowd.de/worldgames2025). Ein wenig Geld fehlt noch, damit die Schwimmerinnen und Schwimmer optimale Bedingungen auf dem Weg zu den World Games haben können. Zudem sind nicht nur in Berlin, sondern in ganz Deutschland, auch sportlich Interessierte, ob jung oder alt, und mögliche Trainer herzlichst in diesem Sport willkommen. Back in November, I was invited to take part in an entrepreneur-centric event in my city called STL Startup Week.I knew I'd talk about how I ended up running a cocktail business and what all that entails, but it also felt important to cover how hard and emotionally draining it is. To that end, I felt it was important to talk about the “fuel” I've found that sustains me when the going gets tough.When we start a business, I think it's also important to ask, “Why am I even doing this?” Is this for money, fame, because I feel pressure, because I want to, or something else? For the toll it takes, I worry about people making the decisions for reasons that are about money, fame, or impressing others.We're at a time in history when entrepreneurship is being lionized. It's hard and perhaps admirable. But, I also believe that running a company is not a more ennobled path. It is simply a path. Dick LeBeau was a football coach in the National Football League (NFL) from 1973 to 2017, finishing his career as the defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans. Over his forty-five years of coaching his teams compiled a cumulative win/loss record of 353-347-2. He was the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 2001 until the 2002 season, during which time the Bengals went 8-24-0. During his career he was a head coach for two seasons. LeBeau was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010 after his playing career. To most NFL fans, Dick LeBeau is known as a football lifer, Pro Football Hall of Fame member, and mastermind behind the revolutionary zone blitz defense. But to Pittsburgh Steelers fans, LeBeau is the beloved defensive coaching genius who helped lead the Steelers to their last two championships – Super Bowl XL in 2005 and Super Bowl XLIII in 2008 – crafting a devastating 3-4 defensive scheme that came to define a treasured era of football in Pittsburgh. In Legendary, LeBeau along with veteran Steelers' scribes Scott Brown and George Von Benko will revisit that unforgettably dominant 2008 defensive unit, one of the most feared and successful in the modern NFL landscape. We discuss ROE% versus SUCC% and the value of explosive runs of 15 yards or longer. We also discuss our takeaways from this particular stats study when it comes to the 2024 expectations for the Steelers' running game. Legendary Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau joins the "Bleav in Steelers" show to discuss his new book "Legendary." The book is due out on July 9. LeBeau's book focuses on what made the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2008 defense legendary. "Bleav in Steelers" co-host Ike Taylor played 11 of his 12 NFL seasons with LeBeau, who was the Steelers' defensive coordinator from 2004-2014. LeBeau discussed his career, 14 years as a Hall of Fame cornerback and 45 years as a legendary coach. He discussed how he used his knowledge as a player to coach. Taylor and LeBeau shared their Steelers memories. It includes winning Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl XLIII. He also shared what it was like coaching Taylor. LeBeau also shared what made the fire-zone blitz defensive scheme so effective. Taylor explains why the Steelers players had so much respect for LeBeau. "Bleav in Steelers" co-host Mark Bergin asks LeBeau whether he tried to get Taylor or Troy Polamalu to play for him at the end of their careers. Dr. Gretchen Starr-LeBeau recently wrote the book Seven Myths of the Spanish Inquisition, which is the focus of our conversation. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and now is the chair of the Religious Studies Program at Principia College. She is a professor who cares about teaching, earning the Chancellor's Outstanding Teaching Award at the University of Kentucky in 2001 as well as the Horace Edwin Harper Jr. and Evelyn Wright Harper Award for Teaching Excellence at Principia College in 2020. Dr White recently unveiled a report on the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1873 and the COVID outbreak of 2020. "The sacrifice of five Catholic priests who gave their lives ministering to people in Shreveport during the 1873 yellow fever epidemic is memorialized in stained glass at Holy Trinity Church in downtown. Their stories have been regularly recounted across nearly 150 years of news reports and histories of Shreveport. The city's Pierre Avenue is named in honor of one of them, Father Jean Pierre, the first pastor of Holy Trinity.
