Your golf clubs may be affecting your swing more than you realize—and we're not done yet.In Part 2 of our look at how golf equipment can create swing problems, Gene breaks down more common compensations golfers make when their clubs don't properly fit their body or their swing. From lifting instead of turning and poor weight shift to swaying, disconnected arms, posture changes, and limited wrist hinge, the movement you're trying to “fix” may actually be your body adapting to the equipment in your hands.Gene also shares real-world examples of golfers whose club weight, shaft stiffness, length, or swing weight pushed them into movements that made consistent contact almost impossible. Before you completely rebuild your swing, it may be worth finding out whether your equipment is helping you—or forcing you to compensate. If this helped you, make sure to subscribe for more club fitting insights every month.Support the showWATCH US ON YOUTUBE!! In the first episode of Golf Club Talk UK Stories, and a Himalayas Golf partner episode, Leighton is joined by Eddie Pelz, son of legendary golf instructor, inventor and innovator Dave Pelz, for a fascinating conversation about a lifetime spent around the game of golf. The interview took place in Scotland around the Scottish Open. Eddie shares the story of growing up around his father's work, from helping test early short-game concepts with golfers including Tom Kite to becoming a mechanical engineer, product developer and eventually a key part of the Pelz Golf operation. He explains how his father's scientific and analytical approach helped shape many of the principles that are still central to short-game instruction today. A major theme of the conversation is the importance of the short game, with Eddie explaining why the Pelz philosophy places such emphasis on wedges, putting, chipping and bunker play. He discusses why golfers should balance their practice rather than simply hitting balls on the range, and explains how building a structured practice framework can help golfers understand their game and improve more effectively. Eddie also looks back at some of the innovations developed by Dave Pelz, including the 60-degree wedge, learning aids, putting technology and work examining grooves and equipment performance. He explains how his own role evolved from engineer and product developer to supporting the wider Pelz teaching operation, including the famous three-day schools that remain central to the business. The conversation then moves into one of the most fascinating projects in the Pelz story: Pelz Backyard. Designed to create a serious short-game practice environment at home, the backyard incorporates green complexes inspired by some of the world's most famous holes, including Augusta National, TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach, St Andrews and Whistling Straits. Eddie explains the thinking behind the design, how the facility performs and why it has proved so popular with both elite players and recreational golfers. Eddie also discusses the development of artificial turf and the patented Shot Stopper technology created through the Pelz Backyard project. Working with Himalayas Golf, he is now helping explore how smaller, high-quality practice facilities can be used to make golf easier to access, reduce barriers to practice and ultimately help grow participation in the game. The episode also takes us behind the scenes of a more recent project with Sir Nick Faldo, where Eddie and his team helped create a substantial home practice facility in Montana. From short-game areas and revetted bunkers to multiple tee positions and longer shots, Eddie explains how the facility gives a player of Faldo's calibre the opportunity to practise seriously without even leaving home. Alongside the technical discussion, Eddie reflects on the wider appeal of golf — its social side, the physical benefits of walking the course, the characters within the game and the importance of making golf more enjoyable and accessible. From following professional golfers around a tournament (including Patrick Reed) to understanding the mental and physical demands of elite short-game play, this is a wide-ranging conversation with someone who has spent his life looking at golf from a very different perspective. Golf Club Talk UK Stories is a new sub-series exploring the people, personalities, experiences and stories behind the game. And what better way to begin than with Eddie Pelz — someone whose family has played such an important role in changing the way golfers understand and practise the game. On yesterday's show we kicked around the idea that the LIV whale might be Trump, not investing himself but doing so through the US government and thus positioning himself as the 'saviour' of LIV. Were he to do so, we suggested he would be insisting that LIV plays at primarily golf courses that he owns or bear his name, seems a very Trump thing to do and Nick listed off a few that fit that criteria. Brett from St Michael's Golf Club in Sydney heard the show and wanted to clarify that one of the courses mentioned is closed for renovations, and has been for nearly a decade...Brett left us a short voicemail. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; The Find My Player app - follow every player on every tour; And Southern Golf Club. In this episode of Club Fitting Chronicles, Joshua and Gene dig into something Gene has seen repeatedly through thousands of fittings: golfers subconsciously change their swings to compensate for equipment that doesn't fit them. From unusual grip positions and open shoulders to closed feet, linked hips and shoulders, extreme takeaways, and collapsing at the top of the swing, Gene explains how club weight, shaft weight, driver face angle, length, and lack of head feel can quietly teach golfers movements they were never trying to make. Before you spend another season trying to “fix” your golf swing, it may be worth asking a different question: Is your equipment causing the problem in the first place? This is Part 1 of the conversation, with even more equipment-induced swing issues coming in Part 2.If this helped you, make sure to subscribe for more club fitting insights every month.Support the showWATCH US ON YOUTUBE!! We share more memories of Dolly Parton from listeners and from Reba McEntire and Kenny Rogers talking about her. We talked about a golf ad that faced a severe backlash and calls for a product boycott after releasing an online promotional video that depicted a male founder shoving a female creator to the ground over a new co-branded driver. We debate whether or not it was made with ill intent. Bobby talked about yesterday being a sad day after getting the news of Dolly Parton passing away. Amy shared a really cool story she heard from Julia Roberts about Dolly.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We're back for another Tournament T-Time as Tori and Phyllis take on Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club for an RDGA two-person best ball event. Before the round, Tori gets candid about watching her handicap climb from a +1 to a 7.0 and how her relationship with golf has changed. Instead of constantly chasing improvement and lower scores, she's learning to put less pressure on herself, enjoy competing, and remember that a handicap doesn't define who you are as a golfer. Then it's time to tee it up! Tori and Phyllis navigate fast greens, beautiful views, and plenty of ham-and-egging as they put together another strong team performance. They break down what worked, what needs improvement, and why playing to your own strengths matters. This week on Turf Today, we're joined by Sam Moynihan, Director of Agronomy at Detroit Golf Club. Sam has an incredible story to tell, from getting his start at The Golf Club at South River and studying turf at West Virginia University, to working on major construction projects and preparing some of the game's biggest events. He's hosted four Rocket Classic PGA Tour events, worked the BMW Championship, and been part of four Memorial Tournaments. We dive into the massive renovation at Detroit Golf Club and what it took to complete the project between two PGA Tour events. Sam also shares some great stories from his career, including a couple of close calls involving tractors, excavators, creeks, and ponds! But one of the biggest themes of this conversation is the people behind the scenes. Sam talks about his staff, the incredible effort they've put in over the last two seasons, and the mentorships, friendships and relationships that make this industry so special. On a personal note, we're very excited to congratulate Sam and his wife on becoming new parents! We're thrilled to have Sam on the show during such an exciting time in his life. //The Wire//2300Z August 5, 2026// //ROUTINE// //BLUF: ALLEGED DRONE ATTACK REPORTED TARGETING UKRAINIAN AIRCRAFT AT GERMAN AIRPORT. MERCHANT SUNK IN THE SOUTHERN RED SEA IN DRONE BOAT ATTACK. MAN ARRESTED IN CALIFORNIA AHEAD OF PRESIDENT TRUMP'S VISIT TO GOLF CLUB YESTERDAY.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: This morning one merchant vessel reported being struck by an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) near the Bab el Mandeb Strait. The UKMTO reported the vessel as being sunk during the attack. The incident occurred so quickly that the UKMTO was not notified during the attack, and the ship sank almost immediately after the incident.Analyst Comment: If the Houthis are now using USVs during this phase of operations, this war just got a lot more serious. The Houthis have demonstrated this capability in the past (such as the war with the United States last year), but have refrained from using this tactic so far during this campaign. Sinking a vessel using a USV is a new step toward closing the Bab el Mandeb, and the response from insurance companies will be an indicator to monitor, as this chokepoint becomes a warzone once again.Germany: This morning a series of possible explosive drone attacks was reported at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Just before midnight, one quadcopter-type drone was observed operating over the airport, prompting drone procedures to be enacted and aircraft grounded. During this response, a search of the airport resulted in the discovery of a second quadcopter lying on the tarmac near a Ukrainian cargo plane. This drone appeared to contain an explosive charge, though no contact detonation apparatus was visible in the provided photos of this device. After this incident was concluded and flight operations resumed, a DHL cargo aircraft collided with a third drone (of unknown type) upon takeoff from this airport, which resulted in the aircraft declaring an emergency and diverting to another airport due to the damage to the airframe.-HomeFront-USA: Around the nation cyberattacks on critical infrastructure continue. Over the past few days, water utilities in a total of 12x states have been affected by malign actors since last month. After the large-scale cyberattacks which resulted in dozens of water districts being locked out of their systems in Minnesota, many more states have reported similar incidents. Georgia is the latest state affected by cyberattacks, and this afternoon New Jersey also reported two water districts being targeted, both of which had to cut access to unspecified computer systems and switch to operating manually.Analyst Comment: As with most infrastructure attacks, these incidents are usually not immediately disclosed to the public unless the public would find out about it anyway, so the timing of all of these cyberattacks is not really known. The Minnesota attacks last week were publicized immediately due to the immediate impact to the public, and now that more eyes are on the issue (and various federal agencies have issued warnings of more attacks), more lower-level municipalities are disclosing that they had similar breaches over the past two weeks. As far as the malign actors behind these cyberattacks, it could be anyone. It does not take a nationstate level actor to breach a system that was using the default passwords or wasn't secured properly in the first place, but the targeting of a nation's water supply indicates the motive is probably in the military realm. No ransomware or demands have been noted, and no hacking group has claimed credit yet. These attacks were meant to directly take services offline, ruling out financial motives for the time being.California: Yesterday the DoJ announced the arrest of an individual tied to a possible security breach at the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles. The press release states that Jeanine John Taele was observed conducting surveillance by the initial Secret Service advance team that was sent to the Golf Club ahead of President Trump's visit. Taele was observed wearing an earpiece and taking photos of the security practices at the club, which drew the eye of the USSS. The suspect departed the facility and transited to his home, where he was apprehended by the Secret Service. During a search of his belongings agents found a few firearms, a pair of binoculars, and a generic badge used by security guards. Additionally, authorities discovered several notebooks containing "concerning statements" at his residence.Analyst Comment: The press release left enough ambiguity to make it difficult to determine what actually happened here: This could be extremely serious, or just some idiot who got too curious. The mention of the earpiece is an important detail, because depending on what that earpiece was, this could be a big deal. The way the release is written, this could easily have been a bluetooth headset as is customarily displayed by those who prefer the rather garish utilitarianism of wearing at all times. Or, this could have been a more substantial security threat that expands beyond just one person. If this individual was acting suspiciously, taking photos of security equipment, speaking into a "radio signal device" with an earpiece, and had vaguely described manifesto-esque notebooks at his residence...this was probably way more serious than just some guy walking around.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The drone incident in Germany will be heavily scrutinized as this is a major escalation which can be interpreted in many different ways. First off all, it must be noted that the one extremely blurry photo of one drone may or may not actually show an explosive charge. What looks like an explosive charge could also be the battery pack, it's hard to tell based on the photo. If there were explosives onboard, it would have been a very small charge and not the flying artillery shells that have become common during the war.At the wavetop level, it is hard to believe that a nation-state level actor which has undeniably mastered the art of conducting attacks with sUAS platforms in war...would fail. If Russia was behind this attack, and really intended to target Ukrainian aircraft on the ground in Germany, a 100% failure rate using multiple explosive drones is extraordinarily unlikely. As a result, it's possible that this was either a false-flag attack intended to blame Russia, or it was Russia sending a message to NATO. Conducting a drone attack, but deliberately leaving the detonator disconnected so that the debris is found and forensic analysis of the explosives leads to a Russian factory, would be a classic Russian message...that's their style perfectly. This is the Kremlin's version of "per my last email", and proves two very serious ideas: NATO's aircraft are vulnerable on their home turf, and Russia already has clandestine forces located near NATO airports poised and waiting to eliminate NATO aircraft before they ever get off the ground. That message is more valuable than taking out one Ukrainian transport plane. However, this whole saga could also be the Ukrainians trying to expand the war, continuing the trend that has been expanding for some time. Since the very start, Zelenskyy has been trying to draw the whole world into their war, and has conducted attacks involving other European nations (such as Monaco and Turkey), which have served as an attempt to bring other nations in to the war to fight the Russians for them. From the Ukrainian perspective this makes sense, and every nation on earth fighting such a nasty war would also use trickery in a similar manner. But for the DHL pilots who almost died and other collateral damage over the years, this is hardly reassuring. The truth will probably be indirectly told in the mainstream media, by what rhetoric is being pushed. If this incident is downplayed and memory-holed, it probably was the Russians. If the mainstream media sources in NATO countries start an information campaign to spin this in their favor, the chances of this being a fake attack go up. For everyone who does not have the ability to forensically analyze the devices themselves, the true culprit might never be known. All the while the new Cold War becomes increasingly more hot, every single day.Analyst: S2A1 Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground NomadNet: 5fa68c88be727a0e1a250a75e5e79269 Disclaimer: No LLMs were used in the writing of this report. //END REPORT//
