After the awards ceremony on August 15, the Annual Meeting proceeded to the Federation's Rural Training and Research Center near Epes, Alabama on August 16 and 17. At the Epes Center a panel of USDA agency leaders and specialists will present information on the latest developments in USDA programs that support Black farmers, landowners, cooperatives, and rural communities; a series of workshops and demonstrations including Cooperative Development, Marketing, Heirs' Property, and Forestry will be presented; and a discussion of plans for improving farm policies, land retention, and conservation practice will be facilitated.

James E. Clyburn is the Majority Whip, the third-ranking Democrat in the United States House of Representatives, and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis. He is also the Chairman of the Rural Broadband Task Force and Democratic Faith Working Group. When he came to Congress in 1993 to represent South Carolina's sixth congressional district, Congressman Clyburn was elected co-president of his freshman class and quickly rose through leadership ranks. He was subsequently elected Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Vice Chairman, and later Chairman, of the House Democratic Caucus. He previously served as Majority Whip from 2007 to 2011 and served as Assistant Democratic Leader from 2011 to 2019. As a national leader, he has championed rural and economic development and many of his initiatives have become law. His 10-20-30 federal funding formula was included in four sections of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Congressman Clyburn is also a passionate supporter of historic preservation and restoration programs. His efforts have restored scores of historic buildings and sites on the campuses of historically black colleges and universities. His legislation created the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor and the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, elevated the Congaree National Monument to a National Park, and established the Reconstruction Era National Monument in South Carolina's Lowcountry. Congressman Clyburn's humble beginnings in Sumter, South Carolina as the eldest son of an activist, fundamentalist minister and an independent, civic-minded beautician grounded him securely in family, faith and public service. His memoir, Blessed Experiences: Genuinely Southern, Proudly Black, was published in 2015, and has been described as a primer that should be read by every student interested in pursuing a career in public service. In 2010, WPM partnered with the International Republican Institute’s Women’s Democracy Network and IRI Nigeria to train women aspirants, media experts, Political Party leaders, and members of the National Assembly on political communications and messaging in Lagos, Nigeria. Most notably in 2013, Sui Lang served as an Expert Trainer for IRI South Sudan training women and men serving as Political Party leaders and members of Parliament on strategic communications, political speech writing, public speaking, and debating skills in Juba, South Sudan. WPM has also facilitated media and political communications workshops at the bi-annual World Learning conference in Washington, DC bringing together over 240 International Fellows from over 40 different countries to gain practical skills and experience from American experts working in a diverse range of public and private sector fields. Sui Lang currently serves on the Advisory Board of Vote It Loud – a national minority voter initiative aimed to increase civic engagement within minority communities in America. Vote It Loud successfully launched its Inaugural Multi-Cultural Media Correspondents Dinner on May 26, 2016 at the National Press Club bringing together over 450 multi-cultural leaders in the media and public policy arena. She has also served as Chair of the Young Women Leaders Board 2009-14 overseeing the WeLEAD program – a nonpartisan political leadership training program targeting young women pursuing careers in politics. She also served as Vice Chair of the National Governing Board of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum from 2011-14 and has served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Patsy Mink Project 2010-12.
