In this episode, Lisa talks with Dr. Sergio Suarez, an osteopathic physician, about how osteopathic medicine can support babies with feeding challenges, tongue tie symptoms, and body tension.Dr. Suarez explains what Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine actually is, how DOs are trained, and why the structure-function connection matters so much in infant feeding. He shares how gentle hands-on care can help identify and release tension patterns that may affect latch, tongue movement, digestion, comfort, and overall feeding function.Together, they explore where osteopathic care may fit before and after a release, why some babies need more support than a frenotomy alone, and how families can make more informed decisions when they are feeling caught between conflicting opinions. This conversation is a thoughtful look at tongue tie care through the lens of function, body tension, and collaborative support for the breastfeeding dyad.In this episode, we discuss:What osteopathic medicine is and how not every DO uses these techniquesWhy structure and function matter in infant feedingHow body tension may affect latch, tongue movement, and comfortWhy tongue tie care should focus on function, not just appearanceHow osteopathic care may support babies before and after releaseWhy parents need education, options, and a trusted teamDr. Sergio Suarez is a board-certified osteopathic physician with training in family medicine, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, and osteopathic manipulative treatment. In his current practice, he works with patients of all ages, including infants and families navigating feeding challenges and tongue tie. In this episode, IWSTHAB's Surrogacy Support Consultant Aliza Abrams Konig sits down with Andrea Syrtash, a relationship expert and founder of Pregnantish, and her cousin Elana Syrtash-Ochs, an early childhood educator and enentrepreneur, to discuss their shared journey through gestational surrogacy. The conversation explores the profound emotional shift that occurs when a family member steps in after years of infertility, loss, and the heartbreak of being ghosted by a previous surrogate. Andrea reflects on her winding path to parenthood, marked by endometriosis, multiple miscarriages, and the eventual realization that she needed a gestational carrier. After a devastating experience with a surrogate who disappeared mid-process, Elana moved the family toward healing by offering to carry Andrea's baby herself. Together, they navigate the unique dynamics of intrafamily surrogacy, discussing how they set healthy boundaries, managed the curiosity of young children, and even educated hospital staff on how to respectfully handle a surrogacy birth. Their story is a powerful testament to trust, "beshert" timing, and the strength of family bonds. Erawadi Singh grew up sleeping on a sofa in the living room of her family's one-bedroom apartment in one of New Jersey's most difficult neighborhoods. Determined to give back, she would complete her schoolwork on the floor of her parents' bedroom, earning academic scholarships for higher educational pursuits while working to contribute to school tuition and helping care for her grandmother as she suffered from Alzheimer's dementia. Era earned a fine arts degree from Emerson College in Boston, where she graduated with honors, and then pursued her lifelong interest in medicine. She studied at Touro College (graduated with honors) and then took up residency at the University of Virginia, where she was chief resident and a finalist for the Medical Society of Virginia's doctor of the year in her final year. From there Era went to Yale University, where as a Geriatric Psychiatry fellow she was elected to represent members in training for the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatrists. Unfortunately, her efforts were sidelined by sustaining a thoracic level incomplete spinal cord injury on her graduation day! I had the great pleasure of meeting Era, and her AMAZING parents, at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation last year. I'm thrilled that she has joined me, to tell us the rest of her story. So without further ado, I am proud to present, A Whole New Era…

After many months of emotionally wrenching, exhausting work on the frontlines of COVID, and the unexpected death of his mother, Dr. Michael Foti found himself in an emergency room dealing with what he suspected was a heart attack, but it was actually a panic attack caused by untreated anxiety and depression. “As healthcare providers, we're afraid to speak up about our mental health because it's seen as a weakness,” he explains. He's trying to change that culture in his role as a clinical assistant professor of Internal Medicine at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. One key message he tries to get across to students is that healthcare providers have to be healthy themselves before they can do the most effective job possible helping patients. As he tells host Michael Carrese, he's also urging providers experiencing mental health issues to speak up to help normalize the experience. “The more that we can share these stories amongst colleagues, then they will feel more empowered to get the help that they need.” On this insightful episode of Raise the Line, you'll also have the opportunity to hear Dr. Foti describe Touro's standardized patient program and its efforts to increase self-directed learning and interdisciplinary education. Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra is one of the most important Jewish personalities of all time. Aside from being a Bible commentator of great consequence, his works in Jewish philosophy - though less famous - impacted many of his successors, including Maimonides' Guide for the Perplexed, Nahmanides, and Rabbi Joseph Albo, as well as the Jewish mystics and Kabbalists. The Yesod Mora is one of the first books of Jewish philosophy written in Hebrew, which blazed the trail for philosophy to enter those parts of the Jewish world that were unfamiliar with Arabic. Highlights of Ibn Ezra's The Secret of the Torah: A Translation of Abraham Ibn Ezra's Sefer Yesod Mora (Kodesh Press, 2021) include the claim that we cannot properly understand the Bible and Talmud without studying logic, philosophy, and science; when we are obligated to accept standard rabbinic interpretations of verses, and when we are permitted to draw our own conclusions; the reasons for - and classification of - the commandments in the Torah; the composition of the soul according to Jewish philosophy; how we connect to God by achieving deveikut (communion) with God This edition of Yesod Mora is based on a version originally published in 1995, with additional notes and critical analysis. The original Hebrew text has been supplied as well. Editor, interpreter, and translator H. Norman Strickman is Rabbi emeritus of the Marine Park Jewish Center in Brooklyn and is a Professor emeritus of Jewish Studies at Touro College in New York City. He earned his ordination from Rabbi Dr. Joseph B. Soloveitchik and Rabbi Dr. Samuel Belkin of Yeshiva University.
