Two years on from Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the war is largely at a stalemate but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's troops face acute shortages of ammunition.Ukraine's cities still come under regular Russian bombardment, thousands of lives have been lost and many more displaced across Europe. Around 300,000 Ukrainians have applied for visas to come to the UK alone. Many more are in Poland and Germany. Tom Cheshire speaks to international correspondent John Sparks in Kharkiv about what life is like on the ground in Ukraine now and how Ukrainians are ready to continue the fight for their country. And we hear from Anfisa Vlasova who fled Kharkiv after the invasion to come to the UK on what life has been like here and how she and her fellow Ukrainian refugees feel about returning to their homeland. More allegations about the unnamed BBC presenter have been published by The Sun, claiming that the star broke COVID rules to meet a 23-year-old. Now that the Metropolitan Police have asked the BBC to pause internal inquiries into suspended presenter, we ask if there has been a mood shift in the way this story should have been reported. On the Sky News Daily with Kimberley Leonard, from outside the BBC's New Broadcasting House, arts and entertainment correspondent Katy Spencer explains the latest allegations and how the story could progress. Plus, in Ukraine, our international correspondent John Sparks has interviewed two foreign volunteers who have been fighting in the army as foreign fighters for the past 17 months, including Rhys Byrne, codename 'Rambo', a spirited 28-year-old from Dublin. Search and rescue efforts to locate a missing submersible with five passengers inside has become a recovery mission after the US Coast Guard determined there was “a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” following finding debris in the search area in the North Atlantic ocean. The deep-sea vessel, called Titan, lost contact with the surface on its way down to view the Titanic shipwreck, a voyage that has become increasingly popular among wealthy tourists. But more than five years ago, industry bodies raised concerns about the safety of the vessel with the company that designed it, warning its "experimental approach" to the expedition could have "catastrophic" outcomes.Today on the Sky News Daily, international correspondent John Sparks reports from the centre of the recovery operation effort in Newfoundland, and Rear Admiral Dr Chris Parry offers an insight into the largely unregulated industry of underwater submersive vehicles.Podcast producers: Soila Apparacio and Sydney Pead Editor: Adam Jay
Thousands of people have been evacuated after a dam in the Russian-occupied Kherson region of Ukraine was breached on Tuesday. International intelligence organisations believe it is most likely the dam was deliberately targeted by Russian forces in an attempt to delay Ukraine's expected counteroffensive. NATO's secretary general has said the move demonstrates Russia's brutality. But Moscow denies being responsible for the damage to the dam. It insists Ukraine is to blame. On the Sky News Daily, Kimberley Leonard is joined by our international correspondent John Sparks, and Sean Bell, military analyst and former Air Vice-Marshal, to discuss the implications of the dam breach for the course of the war.
We start with a deep dive into the data of our new poll with NPR and the PBS NewsHour. Americans favor the Biden position of raising the debt limit separately from any discussion about spending cuts, but, if default happens, they would pretty much blame both sides equally. Then, friend-of-the-poll and longtime Texas journalist John Sparks joins us in studio to help us understand if national Democrats should still be thinking the Lone Star state will soon turn purple. Colin Allred – former NFL star and current Congressman – is taking on incumbent GOP Senator Ted Cruz. But is it a pipe dream? And, since Sparks is perhaps the rare Texan who's also a GIANT Yankees fan, the fun fact unites Lee and John is a detailed discussion of polls showing their team to be the most loved...and hated...in major league baseball.

On this episode, I’ll answer two reader questions on “How to Manage Your Mood”. The first question is from John Sparks. John asks “How did you grow to control your thoughts and reactions? How do you catch and manage your moods?” Here are my best tips for managing, catching, and controlling moods. -When I am feeling good I can control my behavior, thoughts, and mood much easier. -I always preach “Don’t underestimate the influence you have on people.” This is very applicable to the world today. -I think about it often so that it has become a part of how I control myself. Nothing good comes from having a bad attitude. -While I have the ability to be upset, the positive feedback from being positive is a part of what keeps me focused on how I respond. -Attitude and behavior can be controlled if I think about it. -When a failure happens I ask, “Why and what can I do about it?” so that it doesn’t happen again. -I can still be honest and firm without degrading people. -If I am nice, polite, and helpful people want to be around and talk to me. -It's all about attitude. -The more you practice being positive the more positive you become. Soon it becomes a habit. -Getting over a bad day is easy when you help other people have a great experience. -So the next time you find yourself in that spot see who you can help to have a better day and watch how your outlook changes. The second question is from Evan Markowitz. Evan asks me to clarify what “Professionally Ballistic” means when I didn’t get the General Manager job with Marriot. I was firm and professional when I went to talk to them about being passed over. I was persistent but not annoying. Evan then asked if I “Had not ended up going to Disney would I have left Marriot after that?” Yes because I wanted to go and do something different. Even followed up with “Had you been looking at all outside of Marriot for a different job before that?” No, I was happy, appreciated, and valued where I was at so I wasn’t looking for something else. People who are appreciated and valued will be the most loyal employees.

The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Show notes: http://www.ryanrhoten.com/how-to-twitter/ Welcome to the BRAND New You show. On today's show, I talk about what I believe is the most important tool you can use to build your brand, grow your influence, expand your network, connect with hiring managers, and ultimately impact your career. You may remember from show forty-six about masterminds. I had asked my e-mail subscribers to submit suggestions for topics to cover or people to interview for the show. Twitter was number two on the list. If you've listened to the show for any length of time you know it's no secret that I love Twitter. Which means I was going to do a show on Twitter sooner or later, but to be perfectly honest I was really leaning towards later. Why? Well, simply because Twitter is well-covered ground on this podcast. Then I received an e-mail from a BNY listener named Dan. Dan's e-mail said, "Enjoying the podcast. What do you think is the best way to learn to really use Twitter?" As I was responding to Dan, I thought about it. While we have discussed Twitter on this show several times through the eyes of many different guests, we haven't actually looked at Twitter through the eyes of all of them collectively. So for this show, I've put together a mix tape if you will that combines the advice from several of my previous guests into this one cohesive show about how to really learn to use Twitter. Enjoy. I want to send out a special word of thanks to my previous guests featured in today's show. I personally learned so much from each and every one of you during our conversations about twitter that I knew as soon as I had the idea about putting this podcast together I had to call on each of you again for today's show. I encourage all of you reading this to listen to the shows with Madalyn, Mark, Katrina, John, Hannah, David, and Maria. If you thought the snippets from our earlier conversations were great wait until you hear everything they had to say during each of my discussions with them individually. The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
John Sparks | Twitter | Social Media Today I welcome to the show John Sparks from IamJohnSparks.com. John is Top 100 Social Media Power Influencer and one of the Top 50 Most Valuable Social Media Influencer for 2015. He is Social Media Keynote Speaker, Entrepreneur, Coach & Trainer. John teaches Online Journalism at The University of North Texas where he is Adjunct Professor. John is the author of the Best-selling book - “365 Ideas To Go From Good To Great On TWITTER!” GETTING STARTED WITH TWITTER When getting started with John coaches his clients to pay attention to the following “Big 5” of Twitter branding. 1 - Name: Just like it sounds the name is your name or your company's name. If you use your name make sure to use both your first and last name. 2 - Twitter Handle - This is your @ handle. When someone mentions you and uses your handle on Twitter it shows up in your notifications. And yes, WingDings are acceptable to use in your handle. 3 - Bio: You can use 160 characters in your bio. John recommends as a starting point using your headline on LinkedIn. Other suggestions are making sure to include keywords, think about how would you describe yourself, and finally consider how do you want to be found by others. 4 - Bio Picture John suggests the picture you use really depends on your purpose for using Twitter but he does advocate aligning your image across all your social media platforms. He even advocates using the same picture on your business cards. Another tip is to rename your images using your first and last name before uploading them to Twitter. Do not use the default name your camera assigns to your pictures such as DCS789543. 5 - Header Image The header image is not your bio picture rather it's the large image at the top of your page. You can use this image to communicate the types of tweets follower can expect to see or to advertise your book or other body of work. WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS OF A GOOD TWEET Once you've gotten your account set up you'll want to start tweeting. You only get 140 characters in a tweet. This includes any hashtags (#) as well as the twitter handle of the person you may include in your tweet. In order to accommodate for re-tweets and mentions of other people John recommends keeping your tweets to 120 characters or less. John challenges that less is more so we need to be bold and be brief with our tweets. We need to include a Call to action in our tweets. John suggests using “Please Retweet” as the call to action for the tweet. WRAP The best way to get in touch with John or pick up a copy of his book are listed below.
