This week on Unorthodox, it's beginning to look a lot like Hanukkah! The Festival of Lights starts Sunday, Nov. 28, and we could think of no better way to kick off a holiday about the triumph of Jewish observance over assimilation than with a special episode featuring some amazing Jews whose work celebrates Jewish culture and identity.  Comedian and proud Jew Judy Gold—aka @jewdygold—joins us to discuss embracing her Jewishness on stage and off, and lighting Hanukkah candles in hotel rooms as she tours the country during the ‘holiday season.' For more Judy Gold, check out her podcast “Kill Me Now” and her book Yes, I Can Say That, and find her tour schedule at judygold.com. Listen to Judy's previous appearances on the show here and here.  Jake Cohen, author of Jew-ish: A Cookbook: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch, shares his Hanukkah menu (a latke bar!) and tells us why he loves wearing his Star of David necklace on Good Morning America. We're giving away free copies of Jew-Ish to a few lucky listeners! The Majority Report with Sam Seder

It's Casual Friday! Sam hosts Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon and proprietor of the Hullaballoo blog, to wrap up the week in news. Sam and Digby jump right into the completely meaningless victory of the debt ceiling raise that Schumer and Dem leaders are pushing in the hopes to overshadow the complete stall out of Biden's Build Back Better agenda, with the only real political result being another one of countless Republican hissy fits over how Democrats treat them. However, they also cover what we learned from the debt ceiling “fight,” including Biden finally admitting the filibuster is dead weight while Manchin is willing to completely bullshit to protect it, and take a step back to discuss the complete ineptitude of Schumer and Democratic leadership in failing to find a single way to sway Manchin or Sinema to the point that “fringe” politician Bernie Sanders has had to step in. They also touch on the generally undemocratic nature of the Senate and how that emphasizes the dire and impending need for Democrats to do literally anything for Americans in need with an impending midterm. Next, they jump to the unabashed good that is bullying Senators who put their feelings ahead of their constituents, before they take on the recent leak regarding Donald Trump's attempted coup through the DOJ, as well as the Republican Party's unsurprising brush off of the reveal of this murder-suicide pact. Sam also dives in with the MR team on the Democratic Leaderships' self-congratulations for this punt of a vote, as well as touching on vaccination and vaccine approval updates. In the second half: Sam is joined by Judy Gold, host of the Kill Me Now podcast! Sam and Judy touch on all of Today's most central political issues, such as the quality of a Peloton membership, and Judy talks about the return of the comedy world under COVID (both in-person and via zoom). And in the Fun Half: The MR Team also discusses the continued judicial corruption in Steven Donziger's case against Chevron, Sam gives a lesson on the debt ceiling, and they chat about the Right's response to the DOJ probe into threats against school board members enforcing mask use, including Fox & Friends' call for the ever easy financial decision to switch to private schooling. They also admire Vernon Jones, whoever that is, defending himself against Stew Peters, whoever THAT is, regarding past anti-white discrimination, plus, your IMs!
