In this inspiring and hilarious episode of Lady Journey, comedian Liz Glazer opens up about her deep love for self-help books—from manifesting dreams to mastering daily habits—and how she's hilariously (but seriously) using Will Guidara's Unreasonable Hospitality as her parenting guide. Yes, the fine-dining philosophy has entered the nursery!

Vital City founder Liz Glazer talks about her group's ambitious new memo on What To Do (and Not To Do) About Subway Safety — and why the answer isn't gun detection technology, surging officers into the system or more fare-evasion enforcement. Plus, Katie Honan and Harry Siegel gab about the mayoral fund-raising numbers and the state of the race — including Adrienne Adams not yet qualifying for matching funds, Eric Adams' invisible campaign and tired St. Patrick's Day "joke,", and what's wrong with Andrew Cuomo's effort to run an Albany-style campaign in New York City.

Before we get into more of the story, I just wanted to mention that Liz, as a comedian performed for the sold out symposium on January 12, 2025 for "Not Your Mother's Menopause, NJ which took place in Maplewood,NJ. Allison Kalsched along with Dr. Sharon Mallone, OBGYN and best Selling Author, were guests on S6E4 of SHLTMM. I wanted to mention Stacey Futterman Tauriello and April McKenzie who are also Co-Founders of NYMMNJ. Many people were involved, working diligently to have a long list of practitioners and professionals speak on the topic of women's health, wellbeing and happiness. This is the story of mother and daughter that absolutley love one another and have a very special connection. They love to talk about anything and everything. It's heartwarming to hear these stories of their relationship and how laughter is such an integral part of both of their lives. You'll hear liz share stories about how great her mom is at landing a story and that she's got great comedic timing. Comedy and laughter can be therapeutic and I think it's been healing for both women.Liz and Toby have their own Love Language. They understand one another perfectly where as other people may not really understand exactly what they're talking about. The two women also love speaking to one another before going to bed. As a child, her mom would give Liz the option of reading a book or talking before bed and Liz would automatically choose option two of talking together."My mom was fun but not like a cool mom. Both of my parents were over protective. But my mom loves to talk and boy does she know how to land a story," according to Glazer."If she wants to be a comedian," I support her.As a teen, Liz would have some girlfriends over for a sleepover and naturally in the middle of the night mom would come down to keep an eye on the girls so they got some sleep. Toby lays down on the floor with the girls and the only two awake are Liz and her mom. The two women wind up talking till late in the morning?"Both mom and dad grew up with Holocaust survivors as parents" shares Liz. Her mother's upbringing -was tough. On one hand her parents experienced an atrocity in the Concentration camps. They were traumatized and now living in a foreign country. Meanwhile, Toby was trying to fit in as an American on Long Island. A friend asked why is Theresa name Theresa? For fear of Anti Semitic backlash?Toby's birth certificate originally had "Theresa" listed as her first name as not to be recognized as being Jewish. Eventually they legally changed her name legally.Retail returns are a right of passage. Liz has been returning purchases for her mother for decades.Liz share "this is the story of a woman who endured sadness and trauma and found hope and laughter and a sense of calm through her own resilience, helped by friends and her family and ultimately has become the strong woman that her family members saw that she was before she saw it herself." However, we also highlight how important it is to laugh, and how much hope it can bring along with the perspective that keeps us connected to people. Join us as Liz shares a vulnerable and practical firsthand look at the experience and explains why she decided to make the album, how the process was healing for her, what pushback she received from the public, and the particular grief that attends a stillbirth. To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page. Our guest, Liz Glazer, released her latest album on the one-year anniversary of her first daughter's stillbirth titled, “A Very Particular Experience.” As a previous winner of the Boston Comedy Festival and Ladies of Laughter Competition and former tenured law professor, Liz's style is fast-paced and gripping. This debut album about grief, stillbirth, and inherited trauma (Liz is also the granddaughter of 4 Holocaust survivors) is heartfelt, vulnerable, and hilarious all at once. “A Very Particular Experience is the testimony I offered to honor my wife's and my first daughter Leo Pearl's stillbirth so as to create something positive from the experience. And while that experience wasn't and isn't funny, the album is,” said Liz. Liz's comedy has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and she opens for Maria Bamford. Liz has also appeared as an actor on “The Blacklist” on NBC, “For Life” on ABC, and “BULL” on CBS. She headlines clubs, law schools, law firms, and synagogues, and performs at the Comedy Cellar in NYC. Liz also had a bunch of accomplishments in law, having been published in journals such as the Northwestern University Law Review and the Georgetown Law Journal, where one of her pieces became the subject of a symposium in the journal's centennial volume. Liz is currently working on a comedy pilot about her life as a law professor turned comedian. Liz lives in New Jersey with her wife who is a rabbi and her cat Jack, who also is. A Very Particular Experience is available wherever comedy albums are streamed or sold. Our host, Gabe Howard, is an award-winning writer and speaker who lives with bipolar disorder. He is the author of the popular book, "Mental Illness is an Asshole and other Observations," available from Amazon; signed copies are also available directly from the author. Gabe makes his home in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. He lives with his supportive wife, Kendall, and a Miniature Schnauzer dog that he never wanted, but now can't imagine life without. Candice is joined by comedian Liz Glazer. They discuss everything including her conservative Jewish upbringing, gay conversion therapy, and the informative loss of her stillborn first daughter. But just as importantly, her ability to find laughter in the healing process. This world altering experience would become inspiration for her latest album “A Very Particular Experience”. She also explains how at the age of 33 and as a then tenured law professor, she decided to quit her former career to pursue her passion: stand-up comedy. It's time to process some trauma together, buckle up as we bring you therapy with Lez Hang Out. This week Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with comedian and actor Liz Glazer (@lizglazer) to discuss processing and sharing #grief through the lens of storytelling and comedy. Liz's debut comedy album, A Very Particular Experience, releases on May 12th and can be pre-ordered on iTunes now! Liz's album shares truths about grief (with punchlines!) and is a way to bring people together to commemorate the day that her wife gave birth to their stillborn daughter, Leo. Acknowledging her daughter's existence and the trauma her and her wife experienced through this album is not only cathartic, but important as a means to remember Leo and to spread awareness about the common nature of stillbirth. Queer people tend to be more open about discussing trauma, as the simple act of living as a queer person in a heteronormative society is a shared trauma experienced by us all. We will often unload our entire coming out journey on the first date as a means of forming connections. Liz shares that as a descendent of Holocaust survivors it is important to her that she be LOUD and not hide any parts of herself from the world. Her ancestors had no choice but to hide themselves and be extremely cautious with their true identities, and she feels she owes it to them to not waste any opportunity to speak her truth.
