We all have bad days, months, and years. Especially as someone in the LGBTQ+ community. But the beauty in the bad is the good that comes from it. Singer, songwriter, broadway performer Kyle Motsinger has take taken the concept of "Bad Years," and turned it into song to help people battle through and preserve regardless of their challenges. This is queer life, his queer story, and how he is living his life (un)closeted. About Kyle In “Bad Years”, singer/songwriter Kyle Motsinger reflects on the long, arduous, road he has travelled in the pursuit of his rock star dreams. “It's been challenging with daily obstacles like waking up to find my bank account overdrawn and having to call mom and dad for grocery money,” he admits. “Or promoting a show at the venue I always dreamed of playing to only have one friend show up. It can be pretty humiliating and soul-crushing. You start to wonder if anyone cares or if you are even talented.” Produced by Motsinger and engineered, mixed, and mastered by MP Kuo, the alternative rock anthem is a theatrical song that features talents from the New York theatre stage including Broadway pit musicians Janey Choi, Conrad Harris, Mark Kosmala, and Joel Lambdin. Broadway's Trisha Jeffrey (Rent, Little Shop of Horrors, All Shook Up, and Motown the Musical) and NYC actor Jason Pintar provide the background vocals. NY Drama Desk nominee Mark Hartman plays piano. “The message of ‘Bad Years' is a hopeful and encouraging one,” Motsinger continues from his Manhattan home. “It is about how things can and will get better if you hold on. One day, you will look back from a better place.” Kyle Motsinger was born and raised in a small, conservative town of five hundred people near Peoria, Illinois. “I grew up singing Broadway tunes in the middle of cornfields,” he remembers. He participated in school productions and community theatre as a youth and in college, he earned a BFA in musical theatre at Western Illinois University. He then moved to NYC where he performed in several Off-Broadway productions including Fancy Nancy The Musical, a show based off the popular children's books. Motsinger originated the rapping shark role and can be heard on the show's cast album. “I am the OG baby shark,” he laughs. While performing, he continued writing his own music and it eventually took the focus of his creativity. Kyle Motsinger has released two full-length albums, Far Away and Any Way I Want It To. He's also released six singles including “Dark Shadows”, based on the gothic sixties' series and film by Tim Burton. The music video for the song starred Kathryn Leigh Scott from the series and it premiered to much fan acclaim at the Dark Shadows convention in Los Angeles. As Kyle Motsinger approached his mid-thirties', he began to feel that he wasn't where he wanted to be in life. He channeled that frustration into a batch of new songs that appear on his upcoming album. Like “Bad Years”, much of the material muses on life's struggles and finding joy in conflict. “The life I have chosen hasn't been an easy one but I wouldn't change it,” Kyle Motsinger explains. He says he has matured through trial, both as a person and an artist, and believes that it shows in his music. “I think...

Subscribe to The Locher Room: https://bit.ly/TheLocherRoomPlease join me for a very special look at Dark Shadows and Beyond The Jonathan Frid Story in The Locher Room. This is the first feature-length documentary devoted to Canadian-born actor Jonathan Frid, who became a television sensation with his portrayal of guilt-ridden vampire Barnabas Collins on Dark Shadows, the 1966 – 1971 daytime drama that remains a beloved cult classic today. Joining me to talk about Jonathan and the documentary is Emmy-winning soap opera producer Mary O'Leary (The Young And The Restless, General Hospital, One Life To Live, Another World, Guiding Light) who wrote and produced the documentary. Mary will be joined by Dark Shadows actress Marie Wallace who played Jenny Collins, one of three parts she played on the series. Who was the man beneath the vampire's cloak? The documentary reveals Frid's joys, struggles, artistic triumphs and rise to fame in part through his own written correspondences, read by Ian Buchanan (General Hospital, Twin Peaks) and the reminiscences of family, friends, and co-stars. Among those offering insights are veteran talk show host Dick Cavett; actress Marion Ross (Happy Days), Anthony Zerbe (Omega Man, Harry O), Christina Pickles (St. Elsewhere, Friends) and Dark Shadows colleagues David Selby, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Nancy Barrett, Marie Wallace, James Storm, John Karlen and Dan Curtis. Frid (who passed away in 2012 at age 87) appears in never-before-seen interviews as well as rare performance material and archival images.Dark Shadows and Beyond The Jonathan Frid Story will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and the Amazon Digital Platform on October 5 from MPI Media Group. Original Airdate: 9/30/2021

Kathryn Leigh Scott is a very successful actress and author who’s latest book, September Girl, was released via Amazon on September 19th. Kathryn's now in her sixth decade of acting where she is best known for starring in the original ABC gothic series, Dark Shadows.
Kathryn Leigh Scott and David Selby recently reunited to play Maggie Evans and Quentin Collins once more for Big Finish Productions in a four-story boxset "Maggie and Quentin: The Lovers' Refrain." Set after "Return to Collinwood","The Lovers' Refrain" catches up with a very-much-in-love 21st Century Maggie and Quentin who find that as they get older - or at least as one of them does - life doesn't get any easier. Kathryn's recording sessions for this boxset took her to Los Angeles, New York and London. I snuck into the studio after she wrapped on her final day to grab a few words. Kathryn tells me about recording with (and without) David Selby and what she thinks of the new adventures their characters are now having. We also look back at the DARK SHADOWS 50th Anniversary celebrations - getting together with all the cast at both the fan event in Tarrytown and the group recording of the celebratory special "Blood & Fire." And looking further back Kathryn recalls working with Mitchell Ryan as Burke Devlin returned from the dead in "And Red All Over" and she remembers those Dark Shadows cast members no longer with us and how she wishes Big Finish had had the chance to work with them. Way back in 2014, Kathryn suggested her actress friend Daisy Tormé would be ideal to join the DARK SHADOWS audio adventures. After playing the well-meaning but ill-fated Melody Devereux in the highly acclaimed thirteen-part serial "Bloodlust," Daisy returned as a young Abigail Collins when we dropped in on 1767 Collinsport in the Scribe Award-winning "Blood & Fire". And now she's back once more in "The Lovers' Refrain". On a visit to the UK, Daisy fills me in on who she's playing this time, how she finds the voices for her characters, and her gratitude to Kathryn for bringing her into the Dark Shadows family.

On her visit to the UK last month, I caught up with Daisy Tormé, star of Bloodlust and Blood & Fire. A life - long friend of Kathryn Leigh Scott, Daisy talks of how Kathryn brought her into the Dark Shadows world to be Bloodlust's Melody Devereux, a Victoria Winters for the 1980s. And she tells me how she approached taking on the established role of Abigail Collins in Big Finish Productions' 50th Anniversary Special Blood & Fire. Along the way we discuss her career, her childhood in both the UK and the US, and growing up with parents famous on both sides of the Atlantic as she runs through the members of a dynasty the equal of the Collins of Collinsport. This podcast also features the announcement of the winners of the signed copies of Blood & Fire and Echoes of the Past.

Actress and author When Kathryn Leigh Scott's husband was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a neurological disease for which there is (so far) no cure, it was a devastating time for both of them, not least because so little is known about the cause or treatment of a disease that affects some 20,000 Americans, a number similar to that of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). Last Dance at the Savoy is both a personal story about Scott's husband, Geoff Miller, the founding editor of Los Angeles magazine, who lived life fully despite having a terminal illness, and a sharing of her insights on dealing with the day-to-day issues of caring for someone with a progressive neurological condition. Scott "often yearned for someone to figuratively take my hand and walk with me through the difficult times; I hope through this book I can reach out to you with encouragement and practical advice." For Episode 13 we have Dr. Julia Hoffman and Barnabas Collins in a stare down of obstacles. Why DOES he love Josette and why is Maggie the key to that love? (Warning #1: Dr. Hoffman breathes a PG swearword, and since no one else would talk to me, Helena was in charge of allowing this swearword to happen. Thanks, sweetie.) Next we have Wadsworth returning in this installment because after his evening with Professor Stokes, the latter has an ample idea of why Wadsworth and Willie Loomis should meet. (Warning #2: If you listen to this you may never watch the motion picture “Clue” the same way again.) Sam Evans as Andre Dupres and Maggie Evans as Josette Dupres must hash out the problems they have been facing while the coffee is on the perk, and of course, they will do it in the winning way their relationship as father and daughter has always be held.Lily is correct in her determination that her cousin Elizabeth must meet with this helpful, if blustery ghost, Caleb Collins, and he has more to say to the both of them then they might have expected. However, Elizabeth grits her stalwart teeth and carries forward. With all of the haunting in her household, *nothing* will stand in her way of understanding the truth about Victoria Winters.Meanwhile, Victoria Winters is designing handiwork with Morticia Addams after Uncle Fester and she have a few words. Morticia has knowledgeable and understanding things to say of Collinsport and its residents, as well as coming to the realization of *who* and *what* Victoria Winters truly is.As Dr. Julia Hoffman reaches Barnabas again, via the help of Professor Stokes, she comes to understand what her best-friend is agonizing over and now that it has sent him to draw himself over the edge? She will confront that factor with everything she knows at all costs. (Warning #3: Please do NOT listen to this episode while driving. Dr. Julia Hoffman has taken Professor Stokes automobile and is using it like a mad thing.)[This episode dedicated to Kathryn Leigh Scott.]
