Strap in for a rollercoaster of a ride as we return from a three-week break, full of tales and tangents that will have you laughing one minute and pondering life's big questions the next. We kick off with some self-deprecating humor about our podcasting skills and then dive into the hot water we landed in over some past remarks on the Gabby Petito case. We clear the air with candid explanations and a sprinkle of conspiracy theories, before lightening the mood with a hilarious hypothetical involving mad cow disease and bodybuilding, and a nostalgic nod to a classic Harry Carey skit. The Wild West comes to life as we share our thoughts on the hit TV show "Yellowstone" and our cowboy hat adventures. Some of us are even contemplating adopting full cowboy lifestyles, boots and all, after unexpected run-ins with the show's stars. From discussing the intersection of tech and lifestyle to our debates on government inefficiencies, we cover a wide range of topics, always finding a way to inject humor into even the most mundane of subjects. Our musings on AI's role in design and the economy keep the conversation timely and relevant, as we explore the future of various industries. We wrap things up with a look into the personal worlds of impending fatherhood, family trips, and exciting opportunities like a White House visit. There's plenty of room for some good-natured ribbing over death row meal choices and shirtless gym etiquette. Our episode is a smorgasbord of stories, laughs, and insights, inviting you to join us as we navigate the chaos of modern life, one topic at a time. From sports and parenting to ethical dilemmas and podcast logistics, this episode offers a little something for everyone.
On Today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by the Go-2-Guy Jim Moore and Chris Egan from King 5. Puck and Jim open up the show talking about last night's Mariners win and Puck was wondering if Jim was able to stream the game on the new Root Sports app. They talk about the incredible game from Jorge Polanco, the pitching of Logan Gilbert and the play of Ryan Bliss. Jim also busts Puck's balls about his first anniversary show yesterday. Egan joins the show and jumps in on the Mariners lover from the opener and shares his excitement for the season to start. Egan tells a hilarious story about his junior high basketball team suffering the worst loss he's ever experienced in his coaching career. Egan said it's the first time he ever felt like vomiting after a game. They conclude with Friday Voicemails that include an appearance from Mannequin Mike (Mike Macdonald), Geno from Dino's in Las Vegas, Harry Carey and Dick Vitale. Lastly, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Thursday night in sports is what makes sports fun. There are only a handful of play by play voices that rise to the very top of their profession; Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Joe Buck, Marty Brennaman, Jon Miller, Vern Lundquist, Pat Summerall, and Jim Nantz. Our guest on this week's episode of The Approach Shot is in that group; Thom Brennman. From broadcasting Cubs games opposite Harry Carey to NFL Games for Fox while always remembering his roots in Cincinnati, Brennaman is (simply put) one of the All-Time greats. In August of 2020, Brennaman was fired from Fox when we was caught on a hot mic making an unfortunate anti-gay slur (which we do not condone) and immediately apologized, and has spent time since the incident consistently apologizing and insisting "that's not who he is", which many folks, including those in the LGBTQ+ community agree with. We spend much of this episode celebrating his great career, and while we don't usually get into the controversial, Thom spends time discussing the incident, as well. It's a very rewarding and intriguing episode of The Approach Shot.
Heyo! The Burger is a little late to 2024 but we're here nonetheless! Today, Oko, Michael, and Francis catch up the only way they know how; with a heaping plate of complete and utter Nonsense. We talk Creed singing Christmas tunes, the ingenuity of Michael Keaton, an evil Frosty the Snowman, and so much more! Glad to be back and boy do we love all you Fine Folks!

Guest Sam Collins returns to the Bench, teaming with Eric Ede, in a close game against Benchwarers Josh and Markkus. The teams have fun answering David's questions, surfacing Rick Mind-flayer, Giants legend Harry Carey, Mrs. Coliseum, and even Paul Westphal, before realizing he is no longer with us. One player wants to say something inappropriate, but gives up instead. We also see Eric evolve before our eyes, trying to read questions (or at least part of them). In the end, it doesn't matter, David still gets canceled, and Mason takes abuse even though he wasn't playing. #demogorgon #mindflayer #harrycarey #mrscoliseum #paulwestphal #inappropriate #ericsevolution #readthequestion #canceled #poormason https://www.patreon.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.facebook.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.twitter.com/benchwarmerstp https://www.instagram.com/benchwarmerstp/ https://www.teepublic.com/stores/benchwarmers-trivia-podcast

“You're not a Senator, you're an honorary stooge."REBROADCASTCapra's Film Stands As Strong As EverIt's rare to find a film from 75 years ago that feels relevant still in today's world, but Frank Capra's 1939 Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is one of those films. Corruption in the Senate? Check. Corporate interests secretly working their own machinations behind the scenes to get their political puppets to do their bidding? Check. Cynical office staff who are only interested in making a buck? Check. Sad to say that the only thing that doesn't feel modern is that a politician like James Stewart's titular character could actually exist. Or at least survive in today's political world. Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we continue with our great films from 1939 series with Capra's fantastic film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Here's What We Chat AboutWe talk about how much we love this film and why, highlighting everything aforementioned. We chat about Stewart and Jean Arthur as the perfect leads for this film, aided by the wonderful supporting cast including Edward Arnold, Harry Carey, Claude Rains, Thomas Mitchell and more. We discuss how the Washington, D.C. press and the real Senators received the film compared with the general public. And we discuss the people behind the cameras with Capra and what they bring to the table – Joseph Walker, Lionel Banks, Dimitri Tiomkin, Sidney Buchman, Lewis R. Foster and more. Brad and Brendan have Jeremy back on the podcast. At the beginning, Brad lets us listen to his impression of Harry Carey that has been on Rick and Bubba multiple times. The big time radio guys love his rendition. After that, we discuss some old time sayings and their meanings, or our versions anyway. Jerome makes a terrible dad joke. Brad mentions, more than 5 times, that he was standing in line to see the Hayriders when he decided to jump on an innocent bull. In the last segment, Brad meets a big wig at work, and all does not go as planned...I know you're shocked.Listen, enjoy, and spread the word. Up first up a little trivia who had what pitcher had The lowest ERA for a CY winner . . . . Day of Cy Young Awards, 8 Cy Youngs are awarded with 3 multiple winners – Vern Law 60 he went 20-1 and started game 1, 4 and the historic game 7 of the 1960 World Series and went 2-0 you can listen to all three of those games in our community. https://tomsvintagebaseball.com/ Sandy Koufax wins his 3rd, setting the NL record with 382 stakeouts in 1965. You can listen to his starts from 1965, April 22, June 20 and August 10, the 9th inning of his perfect game and for good measure Game 7 of the 1965 World Series on 2 days rest. https://tomsvintagebaseball.com/ Jim Lonborg 67, 22-9 the leader on the mound for the impossible dream red sox, you can hear his Sept 2, and all three of his world series starts https://tomsvintagebaseball.com/ Bob Gibson 2 70, Gibson posts his career high in wins with 23, you can listen to Gibson in the 68, 64 and 67 World Series, and his no hitter in 1971. Fergie Jenkins 71. Finally gets his after 2 close calls and you can hear him in the 1971 All Star game. Rollie Fingers 82 and Pete Vuckovich 82 – back to back for the Brewers and they were both acquired by the brewers from the Cardinals in the same trade on December 12, 1980. And Greg Maddux wins his (2) in a row in 1993, and he will win the next two as well becoming the first pitcher to win 4 in a row. Maddux went 20-10 with a 2.36 ERA All but Law, Lonborg and Vuckovich will end up in Cooperstown https://tomsvintagebaseball.com/ On November 3, 1928 — Voters in Massachusetts approve Sunday baseball in Boston, provided that Braves Field is more than 1,000 feet from a church. This leaves Pennsylvania as the only state with no Sunday baseball in the major leagues. https://tomsvintagebaseball.com/ On November 3, 1987 — Oakland Athletics first baseman Mark McGwire, who hit 49 home runs with 118 RBI, wins the 1987 American League Rookie of the Year Award. McGwire is the second player to win that league's award unanimously. Carlton Fisk of the Boston Red Sox was the first to do it in 1972. McGwire set a rookie record with 49 homers and was the first rookie to lead the majors in homers since Al Rosen in 1950. On November 3, 1968 — Harry Carey, trying to cross the busy Kings Highway near the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis suffers two broken legs, a broken nose, and a dislocated shoulder when he is knocked 40 feet in the air after being struck by a car at 1:15 AM on an inclement Sunday morning. The popular Cardinals broadcaster, whose hospital room will become party central before he is discharged, will recover in time to be on the air for Opening Day. We have countless games he called, including the game where Richie Allen hit his famous blast over the Coke sign on May 29, 1965. Happy Birthday to Ken Holtzman, Born: November 3, 1945 in St. Louis, MO Holtzman was compared to Sandy Koufax early in his career. Both were left-handed, both were Jewish, and both had devastating curveballs. But that comparison was unfair to Holtzman, who went on to have an excellent career, winning 174 games in 15 seasons. The St. Louis native was involved in three big trades, one sending him from the Cubs to Oakland, one sending him from the A's to Baltimore, and the other shipping him from the Orioles to the Yankees. With the A's he joined Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter in a formidable starting rotation that led Oakland to three straight World Series titles. A crafty left-hander who preferred to induce a groundball rather than a strikeout, Holtzman won 17 or more games six times, and pitched two no-hitters. A clutch performer, Holtzman was 4-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight World Series starts. Trivia Answer as you probably already guessed it was one of the guys I mentioned above . . . . Chicago Cubs number one prospect Brennen Davis has been making headlines since being drafted in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft after signing for $1.1 million. His career has been highlighted so far by winning back-to-back Buck O'Neil Cubs Minor League Player of the Year awards and the 2021 MLB Futures Game MVP. Both of these honors came during a time where the minor leagues took a backseat due to a cancelled season. In this episode of Keep Swinging, the potential future face of baseball talks about how he was able to stay focused, the lessons he learned from raising many animals at home and what excites him most about the city of Chicago with host Matt Stucko. Get to know one of the brightest young stars in baseball in this episode!
The MLB coming to Iowa has led to many changes around the state over the last two years. Last year's game with the Yankees and White Sox was a spectacle. The sights and sounds of the movie site and new stadium, coupled with the production of a national broadcast and MLB, drew millions of eyes to the state. Tim and Neil attended the game as part of their official duties for the podcast and had the time of their lives (until the 8th inning, anyways). This year, the boys could not attend the game, so they had to bring in a reliever. Who better to serve as the Moonlight Graham Show's first unofficial correspondent than one of Iowa's favorite role players, Moonlighter Nick Collison? Nick Collison reached out to Tim to get the inside scoop as he was planning to take his dad, Dave Collison, to have a catch and watch the game. The Collisons had a memorable night. This year's trip had everything from playing catch on the field to Harry Carey making a surprise appearance. Tim caught up with Nick the day after the game to catch up on all things Field of Dreams.
