Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay are the American sh*theads who make chicks with bricks while talking about action classic, 'Bloodsport.' Bombay breaks records while kicking things off in record time with a story about when he visited Hong Kong and had a surreal experience at a hooker bar. Then the fellas show what the hell a dim mak is, as they fearlessly enter an underground tunnel before discussing the movie that turned Jean-Claude Van Damme into a star during the VHS era. The guys debate if young Frank Dux was mentally slow, or just a clueless sports fan who loves Giants, and Andy recalls a time he stole a katana sword of his own. There's also plenty of discussion about real life shyster Frank Dux who parlayed a whimsical tale about an illegal martial arts tournament — and a few purchased trophies as proof of his exploits — into Cannon releasing a film based on his story. Plus, why did the film fictional Dux stay up all night banging a girl he just met before the biggest fight of his life? All of this, and of course the boys have to talk about Paul Hertzog's dreamy score coupled with Stan Bush's power ballads. This episode was recorded to honor you, shidoshi.

Tape up your knuckles and prepare for a roundhouse kick of nostalgia as we dive into the final episode of our Jean-Claude Van Damme marathon with the most iconic double feature: Bloodsport (1988, dir. Newt Arnold) and Kickboxer (1989, dir. Mark DiSalle & David Worth). We're talking Frank Dux's (Van Damme) very real Kumite exploits (spoiler: they're not real), Bolo Yeung's terrifying pecs, and Michel Qissi's Tong Po licking glass like a man who's never heard of tetanus. Was Forest Whitaker secretly the best actor in Bloodsport? Why did JCVD's dance scene involve 13 hand claps and 4 splits? And most importantly—how many kids shattered their shins trying to kick trees after watching these movies? (Spoiler: too many.)Between debates on Kowloon Walled City's structural integrity (thanks, James), Frank Dux's CIA lies, and whether Dave Bautista could ever replace Tong Po, this episode is a no-holds-barred deep dive into the films that defined a generation of action cinema—and also our childhood orthopedic bills.Bonus Chaos:The Kumite Math: A 60-round tournament would require millions of fighters. Frank Dux is bad at numbers.JCVD's OnesieSuspenders: Fashion icon or spandex prisoner?Bolo Yeung's Pedestrian Beatdowns: How does one teenage Bolo Yeung strike fear in the hearts of strangers? Let Them Fight: A Comedy History Podcast

Well, dear listeners, you wanted this charlatan, and now you got him. Frank Dux was a man of many stories. Many, many fanciful stories. Each somehow more ridiculous than the last. But at least he had all the evidence to support his claims, right? Not a goddamn chance. This dude was an absolute master in the art of bullshido, but that's really about it. Maybe he had some martial arts skill, but it was all surpassed by his talent in lying without his nose growing. So we trash the fuck outta him, obviously. Enjoy!

We don't like to brag or anything, but the people behind Madness Madness have accomplished some pretty incredible feats of combat prowess, to the point where several hit movies have been based on our exploits: Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jurassic World, The Lion King, The Avengers, Furious 7, Top Gun: Maverick, Frozen II, and of course Barbie. That's more than $27 billion at the box office just from the ones we can name off the tops of our heads, so honestly we've got nothing to learn from Frank Dux, a fight choreographer and semi-professional liar whose “life story,” the 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme breakout “Bloodsport,” pulled in a mere puff of dust to the tune of $11.8 million worldwide, which I don't even think is enough money to wipe your ass with these days.Nonetheless we'll hear about this valor-stealing boomer schmuck, then imagine him dropped into Cassadaga, Florida (formerly New York), the fortune-telling capital of the world, mouthing off to a series of increasingly irritable palm readers until the ghost of Patrick Swayze manifests and Road House roundhouses him so hard he lands in a different ZIP code from his medals of honor, which turn out to be made of cardboard and cellophane anyway. Join us, won't you?

Beer and a Movie with the Weast Side Boys!

Bloodsport is a 1988 American martial arts sports action film directed by Newt Arnold and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Leah Ayres, Forest Whitaker, Donald Gibb, Roy Chiao and Bolo Yeung. The film centers on Frank Dux, a United States Army Captain and ninjitsu practitioner, who competes in an underground full-contact martial arts tournament called the Kumite in Hong Kong.

After enduring a difficult training and beginning a romance with journalist Janice Kent (Leah Ayres), Frank is given the opportunity to fight. But can he survive?" ___________________________________________________ Let's be Frank, shut up and just put up our Dux! 1988's "Bloodsport" starring Jean Claude Van Damme is definitely fun and cool enough to watch over and over again BUT how much of it was actually true though?? The ONLY source to confirm or deny anything that actually happened in his IRL Kumite ... is him: Frank W. Dux!! Was this whole "Kumite" business FOR REAL for real or just based off 1 man's VERY overly-creative imagination running wild? Did JCVD really need to bulk up because he was supposedly "too small" to look convincing as Frank Dux?? IF THE 4TH UNWRITTEN RULE OF KUMITE WAS TO WIN VIA RING OUT, WHY WOULDN'T YOU JUST GET TO TOSSING EVERYONE OUT AND THROW EVERY FIGHT THAT WAY??? If the CIA can neither confirm nor deny IRL Frank Dux's whole story, then goddammit, he MIGHT actually be telling the truth AND MORE on "Bloodsport" - 35th Anniversary Review - EP 66 of "¿Who Diss Been Watching?" !!!! We conclude this year's exciting March-ial Arts Madness run with writer/director/producer Sheldon Lettich (Bloodsport, Lionheart, Double Impact, Only the Strong), who blew us away with his stories about serving our country as a US Marine in Vietnam, being "the man behind Jean-Claude Van Damme", and his new biography, Sheldon Lettich: From Vietnam to Van Damme, written by Corey Danna (click the link to purchase). Sheldon has had a hand in countless films from the 80's and 90's, including Russkies, Rambo III, The Order, Perfect Target, The Last Patrol with Dolph Lundgren, and Only the Strong with Mark Dacascos. You will also hear about how he saved the film, Cyborg. We go deep! We discuss his first short film, "Firefight" (1986), which helped launch the careers of future notables, Brian Thompson, brothers Phillip and Simon Rhee, and the real Frank Dux (who Bloodsport is based on). The film has been remastered and can be watched for free over on Viking Samurai's YouTube channel. And speaking of Frank Dux, while it is now common knowledge that he was a fraud and most of Bloodsport was a lie, you will definitely want to hear Sheldon's take on the real Frank. And as the end credits indicate this movie was based on the true events of Frank Dux life, who fought and won 329 matches between 1975 and 1980, was an undercover CIA operative who entered the Kumite to take down the Japanese mob, the Yakuza, and who with one arm tied behind his back beat up Chuck Norris. The movie Bloodsport was based on his life. He kickstarted JCVD's career and inspired the Mortal Kombat franchise. Everything was a lie. In the 1980s, Frank Dux, a martial arts expert and former CIA operative-turned LA martial arts instructor successfully sold the story of his life to a movie studio in order to the get the movie "Bloodsport" made. The movie effectively jumpstarted the career of its star, Jean-Claude Van Damme. It wasn't until years later that we found out that none of his story was actually true. On this episode of Deep Cuts, we explore the fantastic lies of Frank Dux. -- Get the Mystery Treehouse Simple Code Hybrid Album and Comic! https://bit.ly/simplecodecomic Watch the Simple Code Comic Album Video Trailer! https://bit.ly/simplecodetrailer -- Join our Discord server! https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord -- Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch! https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch -- Get the official Deep Cuts shoulder patch! http://bit.ly/deepcuts_patch -- Listen to our album, a 9 song rock opera about the rise and fall of Napster! https://open.spotify.com/album/6INdubx1dAEKNwuoWzs9Oo?si=z4ljoBAYTFqRXKWVzvWEfg Learn more about your ad choices. Frank William Dux ( /ˈdjuːks/; born April 6, 1956) is a Canadian-American martial artist and fight choreographer. According to Dux, a ninjutsu expert named Senzo Tanaka trained him as a ninja when he was a teenager. He established his own school of ninjutsu called Dux Ryu Ninjutsu, and has said he won a secret martial arts tournament called the Kumite in 1975. He was all the way lying about this, but his alleged victory at the Kumite served as the inspiration for the 1988 film Bloodsport starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Dux's victory at the Kumite has been disputed, as has the existence of both the Kumite he described and Senzo Tanaka.
