As a young adult, Betty found herself too weak to move. She could only muster up enough energy to walk across the hall to the bathroom and take a shower—which would wipe her out for the entire day. Research showed 1/3 of the people never recovered, 1/3 of the people had this recycle throughout their life, and a 1/3 of the people recovered. She knew she would be in the 1/3 that recovered but didn't know how.
