Summary: This episode is about making sure you're doing things the right way. On a recent trip, I booked a car with Turo. I think it was a 2021 Lincoln MKZ. Have you guys ever driven a new car or a very nice car that wasn't yours? You're super cautious, checking the brakes . . . I was double- and triple- and quadruple-checking everything. The longer you're in a car, the more comfortable you get. A few days into the trip, I was going a little faster, having a little more fun with it, enjoying the car. I sort of got comfortable. Many Realtors get comfortable not with a car but with their real estate business. They're not double-checking things, not triple-checking things. They're making mistakes. I can't tell you how many times in my real estate business I've seen paperwork that was not filled out properly. It's a huge liability to not do stuff correctly. Make sure you're following the real estate rules and regulations. Explain paperwork to your clients. I've seen it happen much where people are not careful about this. My encouragement to you with this episode is be that person driving the new car. Protect your client's best interest and make sure that you're not making mistakes that you'll be liable for. I hope that you can think about this in your real estate business and do a better job of overcommunicating, making sure your clients know the risk of waiving inspections or appraisals or covering appraisal gaps, and be cautious in your business just as you are with that new car. American vehicle manufacturer Ford has ordered the recall of some of its vehicles because of a potential hazard. The company announced in September that it would recall two million units of its F-150 Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cab models in the United States and Canada. Seventeen smoke- or fire-related reports concerning vehicles in the United States and six concerning those in Canada necessitated the recall. Prior to the announcement, the company conducted an investigation in August. Findings showed that there were defects in some parts of the models' driver and front passenger seat belts. The seat belts could produce sparks when used, resulting in fire inside the vehicles. Once Ford recalls the problematic vehicles, the company's dealers will repair the defective seat belt parts and attach heat-resistant tape to the vehicles' carpets. The repairs will be applied at no extra cost. Overall, the recall will cost the company around $140 million. It is also expected to put a dent in the company's sales as the recalled vehicles are some of Ford's bestsellers. Previously, Ford has also recalled vehicles over safety concerns. In 2017, the company asked for the return of around 230,000 units of the Escape, Fiesta ST, Fusion, and Transit Connect models in North America. These models ran the risk of engine-related problems like overheating. In the same year, around 211,000 units of the Fiesta, Fusion, and Lincoln MKZ models were also recalled. The vehicles had faulty door latches that could cause passenger injury. The 2017 recalls caused the company to lose around $295 million.

The 2000 Toyota Prius was the first nationally available hybrid vehicle in the United States. A few months earlier, Honda introduced the Insight, the so-called "Peanut Car." But it's never made much of an impact in its original edition or the current generation that debuted in recent years. Double click below to listen to the latest edition: But in the nearly 18 years since alternative fuel vehicles — gas/electric, electric only, natural gas, etc. — have been manufactured, has the technology made a difference? Environmental and green car advocates are likely to say "yes." And every major manufacturer has at least one alternative fuel vehicle in its lineup. The 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Hybrid: Dominated by a sharp-angled exterior design. It averaged 58.2 mpg during a 10-day, 1,600-mile test drive. Image © James Raia/2017 BMW to Mitsubishi and Ford to Lexus, manufacturers promote hybrid and other alternative fuel vehicles with enthusiastic marketing plans. Even Cadillac had a hybrid Escalade trim for a few years.  It's the massive SUV the size of a small apartment and its hybrid edition had EPA mileage estimates of 20 mpg in city driving and 23 mpg on the highway. Few were sold and production stopped in 2013. But there are interesting and impressive hybrids on the marketplace, although neither has changed the automotive landscape to any significant degree. A few months ago, The Weekly Driver reviewed the 2017 Lincoln MKZ. It's the first sedan I've driven with the same price for the gas and hybrid models, about $36,000. The vehicles' hybrid model has an EPA estimate of 41 mpg in city driving and 38 on the highway. It will be on my top-10 cars of the year list in December. Last May, I drove the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime round-trip during the Tour of California bike race. I covered 1,600 miles in 10 days and averaged 58.2 mpg. It's a hybrid I'd recommend without reservation. Tesla, the high-performance all-electric car, has attracted a lot of attention. But until its affordable model is readily available, Telsa is still a novelty car for elitists. And then there's the new Chevy Bolt, the spacious sedan with a 238-mile range. Will it make a difference in consumers' buying habits? So far, the general public hasn't adapted to "green car" technology, with only about 3 percent of new cars sold annually classified as alternative fuel vehicles. Co-hosts Bruce Aldrich (www.tahoetruckeoutdoor.com) and James Raia (www.theweeklydriver.com) discuss alternative fuel vehicles on this episode of The Weeekly Driver Podcast. We welcome your comments.
