What Is Binge Drinking? Binge drinking is defined as, “the consumption of an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time.” Although there is no official binge number, it is widely accepted that a binge would be: - 5 or more drinks in 2 hours for men - 4 or more drinks in 2 hours for women A US survey showed 1 in 6 adults binge drinks about 4 times a month, at an average of 8 drinks per binge. Health Risks Of Binge Drinking And Hangovers And it's no surprise that a study in Finland showed binge drinking and hangovers increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. However, be careful if you already have high blood pressure, as your risk can double, Or, if you have a history of type 2 diabetes or heart disease in your family, be careful. Not only can binge drinking lead to a quicker journey downstairs in the ground, excessive alcohol consumption can also mess with your muscle building and fat burning hormones. This is caused by the increase in the aromatization of testosterone into estrogen. Hence the overwhelming number of men walking around the streets with man boobs and beer bellies. Excessive alcohol after your training can also eliminate all performance gains and can slow down your recovery. It's also been shown that just 3 drinks can decrease men's strength by 45 percent, 12 hours after drinking alcohol. “Healthier” Alcohol Options Focus on making “healthier” alcohol choices. For example, choose a: - Clear vodka: mixed with water and lemon or lime - Red wine rich in antioxidants: Spanish, pinot noir, or merlot Research shows, even just one hangover per year can increase your risk of stroke, compared to those who didn't have a hangover. Try to limit your consumption of alcohol to 1-2 drinks with meals, a few days a week. Here are 4 ways to reduce the effects and cure your hangover faster. Sometimes even the easiest lifestyle habits can have a positive impact on your journey to Live Lean. Do This To Burn An Extra 0.7 Calories Per Minute: Alright, according to Women's Health, a new study at the University of Chester found that people who stand, rather than sit, raise their heart rate enough to burn an extra 0.7 calories per minute. Now you may be thinking, 0.7 calories per minute is tiny. But hold on. Let's run the numbers and think big picture here. Burn More Calories By Standing Vs. Sitting - If you stand up for 1 hour, you would burn an extra 42 calories per hour. - If you stood for 3 hours a day, you would burn an extra 126 calories a day. When you spread that extra calorie burn over the 5 days in the business week, it would be equal to burning an extra 630 calories a week. That's pretty good right? If you're not convinced, let's put that extra 630 calorie burn, from just standing, into perspective. I then picked out the worst options based on what everyday people may choose to eat when ordering a meal. Each analyzed meal contains a typical main item, a side item, and a drink. Are you eating any of these 7 worst fast food meals? This is going to be scary. All right, let's do this. Bottom Line On The 7 Worst Fast Food Meals For Weight Loss Depending on your body type, just one of these fast food meals could contain over double the number of calories you need per day. Every one of these unhealthy fast food meals have the following in common: Low quality fake ingredients Lots of calories Bad types of fat Loads of sugary carbohydrates Little fiber Low quality protein A heck of a lot of sodium Stay away from these unhealthy fast food options unless you're training to be a sumo wrestler. However, if you’re looking to get your cravings for specific foods under control, you’re in luck. I’m about to share how I personally eliminated my food cravings, and you can too. I used to have mad food cravings for bread, oats, and of course, ice cream. It got to the point where I’d have a bowl of oats, then I’d add more oats to the bowl, and a little more. You get the point. I just couldn’t fill myself up on oats. But when it comes to cravings, it doesn’t matter what type of food it is. If you continuously crave a certain food, and you over eat it, it’s not helping you Live Lean. Sound familiar? Here’s the common theme of foods you crave. In most cases, the types of foods that you crave are high in carbohydrates, in particular refined sugar. Carbohydrates convert to sugar in the body, which can cause a quick spike in your blood sugar. Blood sugar crashes are not a part of Living Lean. The rush of sugar is then removed from your blood stream, which then causes a blood sugar crash. A crash in blood sugar then spikes your hunger, thus causing your cravings to go back up. Based on this, here’s how I completely eliminated these cravings in 14 days. If not, what is the best training method for fat loss? Let’s discuss, because I see this all the time, especially from my Live Lean ladies. I’m referring to performing excessively high reps in hopes of burning more fat. This high rep range could sometimes be in the 25-50 rep range. Sure, doing 50 continuous reps of an exercise may feel like a burn and make you sweat like crazy. But trust me, this high rep range does not work as well for fat loss compared to the 8-12 rep range, otherwise known as the hypertrophy range. Hypertrophy simply means growth. So if your goal is fat loss, always remember this. You need to build muscle to increase your metabolism.
