Paris Saint-Germain had a point to prove on Tuesday night as they traveled to London to face Arsenal FC in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. Having lost at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season, PSG wanted to prove they are worthy contenders, and after 90 minutes, they left no doubt. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon to recap the 1-0 win over the Gunners and look ahead to the pivotal return leg at the Parc des Princes.First, we discuss the pre-match atmosphere, which included a lackluster tifo from the Arsenal supporters. We also get into the starting lineup and why we're unlikely to see many changes from Luis Enrique ahead of the second leg.We get into the match next and discuss the opening goal from Ousmane Dembélé. Then there's the controversy surrounding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, where Jurrien Timber appeared to make contact and bring him down in a rugby-style tackle in the box. Ultimately, a penalty wasn't given, but should VAR have overturned the decision? Arsenal also had a penalty shout when Mikel Merino went down, but on replay, João Neves clearly got the ball first before any contact was made.In the second half, Arsenal really tested PSG's defense, and their highly orchestrated set-piece dance led to a goal from Merino. However, VAR ruled Merino offside, and the goal was waived off. We discuss Arsenal's strategy and whether they lost focus on the match while trying too hard to perfect their set-piece strategy.Late in the match, Gianluigi Donnarumma proved once again why he is an elite goalkeeper. He made several world-class saves to keep the clean sheet. We discuss his performances in the Champions League and whether he will sign an extension to remain at PSG.We wrap up the show by answering questions from listeners, including how the lineup could change if Dembélé can't go a full 90 minutes. As always, thank you for listening. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. What a day of soccer yesterday, and it was punctuated by an incredible match as Miami came back to knock LAFC out of Concacaf and advance to the semifinals of the Champions Cup. Lionel Messi scored twice and assisted on the other one to lead Miami to a 3-2 win on aggregate, 3-1 on the night. The match had drama, near misses, hard fouls, screaming and yelling, controversial calls, everything you could hope for. Vancouver gave their fans plenty to enjoy as well as Tristan Blackmon's stoppage time volley pushed the Whitecaps past Pumas on away goals and books their ticket for a semifinal showdown with Miami later this month.PSG and Barcelona put on great displays in the UEFA Champions League yesterday afternoon. Luis Enrique's side came back after conceding first to defeat Aston Villa 3-1. Désiré Doué led PSG back with an incredible curling goal, he's a name you need to get to know as the 19-year old might be the best young player this side of Lamine Yamal (who was also brilliant for Barca in their demolition job of Borussia Dortmund). Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's goal for PSG to make it 2-1 was another brilliant piece of individual quality after a beautiful team build-up. Dribbling is down in the top 5 European leagues 21% according to Opta. It's a shame when you see the top teams in the world use dribbling to great effect (the world champions Argentina, the European champions Spain, PSG, Barcelona, etc.). Pablo Aimar told TyC in Argentina that he feels it's because the young players aren't getting the free play elements in the neighborhood that his generation did, to go along with the professional coaching players received in the clubs. Embrace dribblers at a young age, encourage it, don't take it away from the kids. It can always be refined later, but it's important in players developing their own personalities on the field. Hopefully youth coaches and clubs can find ways to allows kids to develop this going forward. Liverpool making progress in retaining Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, according to reports. Plenty more nuggets in the podcast, please check it out and subscribe to get these four times per week! More Espresso tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

In the 1-0 loss to Liverpool FC, Paris Saint-Germain somehow proved they belong to be mentioned among the elite clubs in Europe while also succumbing to the same old script that has plagued them for years in the UEFA Champions League. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Drew to break down the disappointing defeat to Liverpool in the first leg of the Round of 16 tie. The show begins with a discussion of Luis Enrique's starting lineup. Did the manager get it right, or should he have considered making a change? The atmosphere at the Parc des Princes was special, and PSG used that energy to put Liverpool under pressure early and often. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a brilliant curling shot for PSG, but Kvara's calf and foot were just offside. We discuss PSG's tactics and the fast start to the match.Shortly after Kvara's offside goal, Ibrahima Konaté appeared to push Bradley Barcola from behind just before he ran into the Liverpool penalty area. After the VAR check, Konaté did not receive a red card, and play went on. We talk about the decision and whether the officials got it right. In the second half, PSG continued their dominating performance but simply could not beat Alisson Becker. The Liverpool goalkeeper made several spectacular saves and, in total, kept a clean sheet despite facing 10 total shots on target. As if that wasn't enough, in the 86th minute, Arne Slot took off Mohamed Salah and replaced him with Harvey Elliott, and a minute later, he took Liverpool's only shot on target and scored. We discuss whether one PSG player is to blame for the goal or if it was a collective failure. We conclude the show by looking ahead to the return leg next Tuesday. Can PSG complete the comeback against the Premier League leaders? Is it better from a mentality standpoint that PSG is down a goal? We share our scoreline and how we think this tie will end.As always, thank you for listening. Be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. After a frankly disastrous title defense last term, NAPOLI steamed back into contention over the first half of this season under their brilliant and tempestuous new boss, Antonio Conte. But after a bizarre January transfer window where they sold key attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG and brought in nobody to replace him, they've lost their way and dropped nine of the last 12 points available.Reigning champions INTER, meanwhile, are in unabashed pursuit of a treble, and boss Simone Inzaghi has been rotating his teams like mad to deal with the matchload associated with all of their obligations. Still, they've been grinding out those three points, like the 1-0 over Genoa last time out in the league — and they've zipped into first place just in time for this encounter, one point clear of the Neapolitans.Joining us to preview the match on Saturday (12pm ET, 5pm UK) is Nima Tavallaey (@NimaTavRood) co-host of the Italian Football Podcast (@ItaFootPod). He broke down how Napoli's mismanagement goes farther back than the January transfer window and goes all the way to the top; why it's a three- or even four-horse title race in Serie A; and whether, if this goes the wrong way, Conte might erupt like the nearby Mount Vesuvius. For kickoff times and storylines on all the good matches this weekend, check TheFootballWeekend.com.If you're enjoying the show, please leave us a rating and review! Jimbo's got Pol Ballús, Seb Stafford-Bloor, Julien Laurens and Rory Smith alongside him as the Champions League Knockout Round Play-offs get underway. We start with a look at some of the big ties across Tuesday and Wednesday including the small matter of Manchester City v Real Madrid - for the fourth season in a row in Europe! Elsewhere, there's the all-French affair between Brest and PSG, Celtic host Bayern Munich and Feyenoord v Milan just got a bit more interesting following the dismissal of Brian Priske…  Domestically, in Spain the La Liga title race is the gift that keeps on giving with just two points separating Real, Atleti and Barcelona at the top of the table. That's after Carlo Ancelotti's side were held in a 1-1 draw by their Madrid rivals, allowing Barca to close the gap with a 4-1 victory over Sevilla. Over in Italy, it was a big Monday night in Milan as the Champions closed the gap to leaders Napoli to just one point after a 2-1 win over Fiorentina… just four nights after they'd played in Bergamot and la Viola had won 3-0 in a match that was rescheduled after the collapse of midfielder Edoardo Bove back in December. Napoli's lead at the top stands at one point as they were held by Udinese. In France, PSG continued their imperious Ligue 1 form with a 4-1 victory over Monaco, which included a first goal for the club for a certain Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Distant chasers Marseille and Nice both registered wins of their own to keep up their Champions League charge in what's a very competitive chase for a top three spot. And in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich prepared for their trip to Glasgow with a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen, stretching their lead at the top of the table to eight points. That's because closest rivals Leverkusen let complacency creep in again as they were held to a goalless draw by Wolfsburg. Meanwhile, Dortmund have gone five home games without a win in the league - their worst run since 2006 - after their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Stuttgart. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend (00.45)• PART 2: Champions League teases (06.15)• PART 3: La Liga review - Title race gets even tighter, plus is Antony actually good in Spain?! Paris Saint-Germain's season is entering a critical phase, with big wins and key moments providing both hope and important lessons. Entering the final week of January, PSG must now prepare for a match that could define the entire season. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by long-time contributor Marc Damon and newcomer Greyson Lee to break down all the action from PSG's recent performances. We look back at the comeback win over Manchester City, the draw against Stade de Reims, and we preview the match against VfB Stuttgart. The conversation starts with PSG's thrilling 4-2 win over Manchester City. Falling behind 2-0 in the first half, PSG stormed back with four unanswered goals, showcasing their clinical finishing and renewed fighting spirit. Gonçalo Ramos, João Neves, Ousmane Dembélé, and Bradley Barcola delivered the goals to complete the comeback, leaving fans dreaming of what this team could achieve when firing on all cylinders.Next, we shift focus to the draw against Stade de Reims at the Parc des Princes. Despite moments of brilliance, including a goal from Dembélé, PSG found it difficult to break down a well-organized defense. We break down how the team's pressing game has evolved and note the challenges of maintaining intensity across a congested schedule. We also break down Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's debut.Looking ahead, we preview PSG's midweek Champions League showdown against Stuttgart and make our predictions. With both teams fighting to advance, the stakes couldn't be higher. Will Luis Enrique stick with the lineup that dismantled Manchester City, or will he make changes to achieve a tactical advantage? As always, thank you for listening. The Truth: Why is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Leaving Napoli?

It's time for The Truth! In a move that has somewhat stunned the football world, Napoli's Georgian sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has told manager Antonio Conte he wants to leave the Neapolitan club, and is on the brink of a €70m move to PSG, despite the fact that his current side are top of Serie A and challenging for a second title in three seasons. So why is this happening, and why is it happening now? We dive deeper into Kvara's story at Napoli - including his adoption as an honorary Neapolitan, and the breathtaking ability that he displayed as he and Victor Osimhen led Gli Azzurri to the 2022/23 league title; as well as his new role under Antonio Conte and some explanations as to why we haven't quite seen the best of the man they call 'Kvaradona' this season. There's also a discussion of some off-the-field matters, which include a big portion about the contract that Kvaratskhelia is on in Naples, and questions about why that deal wasn't renewed after he proved his worth almost as soon as hitting the ground; and the treatment and subsequent departure of his old co-pilot Osimhen, which was a messy affair all summer long. And, from the PSG side, we look at how this might affect Bradley Barcola, who had such a brilliant first half of this season domestically, and where Kvara fits into a Luis Enrique system. So is this move about money, morals, mobility or playing under a coach that best suits the Georgian's style and ability? The Truth is somewhere in the middle... We also discuss the upcoming match against Saint-Etienne at the Parc des Princes.Up first, it's the newest transfer rumor involving Aston Villa's star center-forward, Jhon Durán. Reports indicate PSG is interested in the Colombia international, but the two clubs are €30 million apart in valuation. We discuss the potential of Durán and other strikers, like Alexander Isak, joining the club and whether they will succeed in Luis Enrique's system.Next, we talk about the transfer that appears to be closest to happening and that involves Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. We break down PSG's latest offers to Napoli for the Georgia international and what it means for Bradley Barcola, who plays on Kvaratskhelia's preferred left wing.Another winger who could be joining PSG for next season is Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool FC star is expected to be a free agent this summer, and PSG will certainly be in the running for his signature. Could his arrival mean Ousmane Dembélé could be on his way out in the near future? After the transfer talk and examining where the new signings might line up, we turn our attention to matters on the pitch with a Ligue 1 match against Saint-Etienne on Sunday.
