The Villanova University football teams is two wins away from a national championship. The 12-2 Wildcats have advanced to the national semifinals of the FCS playoffs where they will host Illinois State on Saturday night at 7:30pm at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats have defeated Harvard (52-7), Lehigh (14-7) and Tarleton State (26-21) to this point, winning the last two games on the road. Villanova brings an 11-game overall winning streak and a 23-game home winning streak into Saturday night. Illinois State is 11-4 and the Redbirds have won all three of their playoff games on the road. The winner of this game will play the winner of Montana/Montana State for the national title on January 5th in Nashville, Tennessee. Matt Leon caught up with Villanova head coach Mark Ferrante to talk about his team's run. Gary Williams was one of the greatest college basketball coaches in history. The Collingswood, New Jersey native won 668 games in 33 years as a college head coach at American, Boston College, Ohio State and Maryland. He is probably best known for his 22-year run at his alma mater the University of Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to back-to-back Final Fours and the 2002 National Championship. Kim Habbert is in her 22nd season as the head coach of the Division II Wilmington University women's volleyball program. She entered the season with 359 coaching victories with the Wildcats. Her success at Wilmington follows a decade leading the girls volleyball program at Christiana High School in Newark, Delaware. Habbert played collegiately at James Madison University. The University of Pennsylvania football team is coming off a frustrating 2024 campaign which saw the Quakers finish 4-6 (2-5 in the Ivy League). Penn has a lot of talent returning from last year however as they look to take a big step forward in 2025. Matt Leon sat down with Penn head coach Ray Priore to learn more about his team and his hopes for this season. The Quakers open their 2025 season on Saturday, September 20th, on the road at Stonehill College. That game in Easton, Massachusetts will start at 1:00 p.m.

This will be Villanova's final season as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association as in 2026 the Wildcats jump to the Patriot League. Matt Leon spoke with Villanova head coach Mark Ferrante to get some insight into the 2025 Wildcats. Villanova will open its season on Saturday, September 6th at home against Colgate. Delaware went 9-2 last season, their final year as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Ryan Carty is entering his fourth season as the head coach at his alma mater and Matt Leon talked to him about his hopes for his team, the move to FBS and much more. Delaware will open its season at home on Thursday night, August 28th, hosting in-state rival Delaware State at 7:00 p.m.

They have a new coach in 2025 as K.C. Keeler, who won an FCS National Championship as the head coach at the University of Delaware in 2003, is now running the program. He spent the last 11 years as the very successful head coach at Sam Houston State University down in Texas. Matt Leon speaks with Keeler about why the Temple job was the right one for him, what his hopes are for his squad this season and more. Temple opens its 2025 season on Saturday, August 30th on the road at UMass in Amherst, Massachusetts. It will be a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

Harry Silverstein spent more than four decades as one of the most successful tennis coaches in South Jersey history. He spent three decades leading the way at Vineland High School in Cumberland County before moving over to Division III Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey to lead the women's program there. His 11-year run with the Ospreys came to a close with his retirement earlier this year. He logged an incredible 628 wins during his stretch at Vineland and went 97-50 at Stockton. Tom Maxwell just led the Delsea Regional High School wrestling team in South Jersey to the 2025 NJSIAA Group 3 Wrestling Championship. It was the fourth straight state title for the Crusaders, but it was the first for Maxwell as head coach, as he took over the program after spending 29 seasons as an assistant. He also was a longtime assistant for the football and baseball programs at Delsea, logging an amazing 73 seasons as an assistant coach for the three programs combined prior to this first season as a head coach. Darnell Artis was recently named the new head coach at Division III Gwynedd Mercy University in Montgomery County. This is a homecoming Artis, who was a star player for the Griffins and also spent time as an assistant coach for the program. Artis, who went to La Salle College High School, has spent the last several years as a member of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters. In Episode #260 of "1-on-1 with Matt Leon," Matt welcomes Artis in studio to talk about his life in basketball.
