Amjad Masad set out more than a decade ago to pursue the dream of unleashing 1B software creators around the world. With millions of Replit users pre-ChatGPT, that vision was already becoming a reality. Turbocharged by LLMs, the vision of enabling anyone to code—from 12-year-olds in India to knowledge workers in the U.S.—seems less and less radical. In this episode, Amjad explains how an explosion in the developer population could change the economy, society and more. It's Wednesday, April 2nd, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nigerian Muslims killed 11 Christians last Thursday Last Thursday, suspected Fulani Muslim militants killed 11 Christians during a raid on a Christian farming community in central Nigeria. A local resident told International Christian Concern, “In the late evening, armed militants surprised us with their assault. We lost 11 valued lives, including a pregnant woman.” Amnesty International Nigeria commented, “The inaction of authorities has left people exposed to violence, resulting in devastating losses.” Nigeria is the seventh most dangerous country worldwide for Christians, according to the Open Doors' World Watch List. Trump demanding pro-life free speech in United Kingdom The U.S. State Department stated Sunday it is concerned about freedom of expression in the United Kingdom. The statement comes as Livia Tossici-Bolt, a pro-life advocate in England faces criminal charges for offering conversation outside an abortion mill. The U.S. State Department said, “We are monitoring her case. It is important that the U.K. respect and protect freedom of expression.” The case may even threaten a free trade deal between the U.S. and the U.K. A source in the Trump administration, familiar with the trade negotiations, told The Telegraph there should be “no free trade without free speech.” Appearing on Leading Britain's Conversation with Tom Swarbrick, Claire McCullough, founder of Good Counsel Network, and a friend of Livia Tossici-Bolt, declared that the British law which suppresses free speech outside abortion mills is a massive overreach. McCULLOUGH: “A leaflet saying, “Pregnant? Worried? Help if you want it' is not offending anyone actually, or ‘Here to talk, if you want,' as Livia's poster said. But I just don't see how that is distressing to anybody. Abortion itself is very distressing. I'll agree with you there. But I don't see how an offer of help is distressing. Especially when the people who are offering it are completely peace-keeping people who've never been in any way charged with anything prior to this law coming in.” Proverbs 17:15 says, “He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.” Trump vs. Planned Parenthood Politico reports the Trump administration notified nine Planned Parenthood state affiliates on Monday that their funding is being “temporarily withheld.” The letter said Planned Parenthood may be violating federal civil rights laws as well as President Donald Trump's executive orders, specifically his orders against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is giving Planned Parenthood 10 days to prove it will comply with Trump's orders. The temporary hold affects nearly $30 million in federal funding. HHS to cut 10,000 jobs Last Thursday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that it will cut about 10,000 full-time employees. Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said, “We aren't just reducing bureaucratic sprawl. We are realigning the organization with its core mission and our new priorities in reversing the chronic disease epidemic. This Department will do more – a lot more – at a lower cost to the taxpayer.” The plan will save taxpayers $1.8 billion as part of President Trump's efforts to make the government workforce more efficient. Mississippi on track to end state income tax Last Thursday, Mississippi Republican Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill into law that will end the state's income tax. REEVES: “Mississippi will no longer tax the work, the earnings, or the ambition of its people.” The “Build Up Mississippi Act” will cut the income tax rate to 3% by 2030. After that, annual decreases will eventually bring the rate to 0%. This puts the state on track to become the first to eliminate an existing income tax. Governor Reeves told Mississippians, “The work of your hands belongs to you. It is yours – to feed your family and invest in your home and your community. Because that's what this is ultimately about. Not just numbers on a balance sheet, but lives.” Consumer spending increased slightly The Federal Reserve's primary inflation measure rose last month. The core personal consumption expenditures price index increased by 0.4% in February compared to January. That put the 12-month inflation rate at 2.8% which was more than what economists expected. Consumer spending also increased last month, but was behind expectations. Creator of Morse code gave glory to God And finally, today is the anniversary of the death of Samuel Morse. The American inventor died on April 2, 1872. Before his important inventions, Morse was known as a painter, even gaining admittance to the British Royal Academy of Art. Later in life, he would make key contributions to the design and deployment of the telegraph system. He also co-developed the code that bears his name. The Morse code would become the primary language for telegraphy and is still used to this day. Notably, Morse was a devout Christian who gave glory to God for his inventions. Psalm 115:1 says, “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for the sake of Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness!” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, April 2nd, in the year of our Lord 2025. The 1870 Education Act was the first to deal specifically with the provision of British schools. Speaking in the House of Commons, William Edward Forster MP proposed: "I believe that the country demands from us that we should… cover the country with good schools, and get parents to send their children to those schools.” But there was opposition: from Christians concerned about the religious nonconformity of these new institutions; ideologues who thought the state simply couldn't afford to fund them; and families who relied on their children bringing home a wage from work. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why Prime Minister William Gladstone was disappointed by the reforms; examine whether the intention was really as philanthropic as it seemed; and reveal why it was only in living memory that Britain's education policy truly provided the nation's kids with full-time schooling… Thanks to James Plunkett's book, End State (2021) for inspiring this topic. In this episode, we dive into the FAA's evolving approach to approving waivers and exemptions for complex drone operations, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), 1:many operations, and broadly airspace integration over the past 18 months. Joining us again is Charlton Evans, a trusted expert in FAA drone regulations, who last appeared on episode #35.Charlton explains the significant shift in how drone OEMs and operators approach the type certification requirement in the U.S. Traditionally, the process involved going through the FAA's Durability & Reliability (D&R) process, which often took four to five years, as seen with companies like Matternet and Percepto. However, since mid-2023, the FAA has introduced a streamlined 44807 type certification exemption process through the Flight Standards Office, focusing on self-declaration. Charlton walks us through this new process, notable waivers, and his expectations for the upcoming Part 108 rulemaking. We also explore the growing adoption of drone-in-a-box systems, particularly following DJI's launch of the DJI Dock 2, and finish with a discussion on AI use cases in general aviation.

West End State Coach Jade Rawlings previews clash with VFL by Zac Milbank
This week, I spoke with James Plunkett, a man who has spent his career at the intersection of policy and social change. From the halls of Number Ten to the charity sector's front lines, James's unique perspective has birthed a book that critically examines what's wrong with our society and offers tangible fixes. Together, we dissect our societal challenges, from outdated institutions to the technology of gods, and discuss structured ways to mend a fractured system.James has spent his entire career thinking laterally about the complicated relationships between individuals and the state, with a particular focus on digital transformation and public policy, from the social innovation agency Nesta to the charity Citizens Advice and before that roles at 10 Downing Street, the Cabinet Office, and the Resolution Foundation think tank.James combines a deep understanding of social issues with an appreciation of how change is playing out not in the ivory tower, but in the reality of people's lives. As a result of all these insights, he's written an optimistic book, 'End State: 9 Ways Society is Broken and How we fix it.' that explores how we can reform the state to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. As you'll hear, he didn't think of this as a hopeful book when he began - it was more of a response to seeing the ways the old system of the 20th century was not keeping up with the new world. How we have, in EO WIlson's words, 'Paleolithic emotions, Mediaeval Institutions and the Technology of gods' and this isn't necessarily a good combination to face the meta-crisis. But James did come out with hope for the future and structured ways our current system could make these happen. Accidental Gods often inhabits a world where the current system is broken beyond repair and the only answer is to create a new one and help people shift into it. So this was fascinating, enlivening conversation with someone who has lived and worked in the heart of the superorganism and can see ways through to a world where the human and more than human worlds flourish. There are more than 110 armed conflicts in the world today.[1] Ending any one of them requires more than a simple cease fire, it requires knowing what each side intends to achieve by the conflict. This is even true when the participants may not fully understand the end state they are seeking. This includes the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Without addressing those desired end states any ceasefire merely gives time for the warring parties to refit for the next battles. Whenever our country starts on the path to armed conflict, the citizens must demand that our government know and tell us, “How does this end?” These podcasts are not monetized or subsidized in any way, nor do they represent anyone's opinion but my own. If I initiate a war, it seems logical that I would know why I am starting that war and what I expect to achieve by it. It might also be helpful if I let my opponent know that, too, as it may help limit the intensity duration, and long-term effects of that war. Why that is and how that does or doesn't reflect reality is the subject of this and following episodes of the Ancient Art of Modern Warfare. Our guest today is Charlton Evans, founder and CEO of End State Solutions, a firm focused on certification and airworthiness for drones and other forms of advanced air mobility. Given some of the recent milestones and rumors about drone regulations in the United States, we thought you would appreciate a discussion on the hot topics in FAA drone regulations from a true subject matter expert, whose firm recently helped Matternet receive the industry's first drone type certification. We covered a lot of ground with Charlton, starting with the first unmanned aircraft type certifications in the restricted category in 2013 and ways in which those operations failed to properly address the needs of the oil&gas industry at the time. We then followed regulatory and industry milestones to present day, discovering along the way the remaining challenges and opportunities facing the drone industry.Charlton assigns responsibility to both the FAA and the industry for the state of commercial drone adoption among enterprises. Since 2013, there have been fewer champions within the FAA doing the heavy lift to tackle advanced air mobility and drive integration of drones into the national airspace system – resulting in a natural bureaucratic filter to innovation at the FAA. At the same time, the industry is still notorious for not coming to the table with fully developed products and concepts of operations. The gap between rigorous safety-centric FAA processes and the spirit of rapid innovation borrowed from the tech world still exists but is definitely closing as both the industry and regulators gain more experience from ongoing projects and initial operations. There is a ton of insights from this deep dive with Charlton, but let us highlight a few: you'll hear what Charlton means by “any change is a change” or “ there is no certification by obvious”, how the FAA needs to get more comfortable with an appropriate assessment of risk, what three things type certification applicants need to bring to the table, how appropriate the durability & reliability type certification process really is, the black hole of 21.17(b) certification, in what ways drones and Light Sport Aircraft are similar, opportunities for innovation, and of course advice for entrepreneurs. As mentioned, Charlton Evans is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of End State Solutions, a firm focused on certification and airworthiness for AAM, drone delivery, HAPS and RPAS. Charlton was a Harrier Pilot and Tactical Air Controller in the Marine Corps and still flies for business and pleasure as a commercial pilot. Charlton has led several successful civil and military drone certifications as well as historic BVLOS flight operations. Recently End State Solutions assisted with the FAA type certification of the Matternet M2 delivery drone. Charlton also led historic linear infrastructure and disaster response flights with the type certified ScanEagle UAS that resulted in the induction of ScanEagle N202SE into the Smithsonian Institute in 2016. Today End State Solutions is considered a trusted advisor by both industry and FAA, engaged across the spectrum of Type, Production, Operational approvals as well as regulatory affairs – building relationships that build trust and products that are trusted through certificationWe hope you'll enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
