Friends of the Rosary,Today, February 11, we celebrate the Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, with her message of calling to personal conversion, prayer, and charity. On a day like this 1858, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to fourteen-year-old Marie Bernade Soubirous, St. Bernadette.Between February 11 and July 16, the Immaculata appeared eighteen times and showed herself to St. Bernadette in the hollow of the rock at Lourdes, in the south of France. On March 25, she said to her:"I am the Immaculate Conception."Since then, Lourdes has become a place of pilgrimage, and many cures and conversions have taken place. On her apparition, the Immaculate Conception was youthful and clothed in a pure white gown and mantle with an azure blue girdle. A golden rose adorned each of her bare feet.On her first apparition, February 11, 1858, the Blessed Virgin asked the girl to make the sign of the Cross and say the rosary with her. Bernadette saw her take the rosary hanging from her arms into her hands. This was repeated in subsequent apparitions.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary!+ Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! In this conversation, Will Wright interviews Joshua Mazarin, author of 'Led by the Immaculata', exploring the profound themes of Marian consecration, the role of Mary in the life of the Church, and her unique relationship with the Holy Spirit. Joshua shares his inspiration for writing the book, the theological foundations of Marian devotion, and how it serves as a practical guide for living out one's faith. The discussion emphasizes the importance of entrusting oneself to Mary and understanding her as a mediator of grace, ultimately leading to a deeper relationship with Christ.St. Maximilian Kolbe is one of the most well-known and well-loved saints of all time. Many are familiar with the story of his selfless act at Auschwitz, where he sacrificed his own life to save a man who was a husband and father. But do you know about Kolbe's deep love for Mary, whom he called the Immaculata? How he surrendered everything to Our Lady to grow in holiness and align his will to the will of God? How he consecrated his life to Mary?In Led by the Immaculata, Joshua Mazrin, a Kolbe devotee and Mariology expert, will* introduce you to St. Maximilian Kolbe,* explain the meaning of consecration and the objectives of the Knights of the Immaculata,* walk you through the fourteen doable and practical steps of the consecration, and* provide a step-by-step plan for completing the consecration.Kolbe taught that by giving our lives completely to Mary, the Immaculata, she would direct our will to the will of the Holy Spirit—that is, the will of God. Kolbe wanted this message shared far and wide and so founded the Knights of the Immaculata with the goal of consecrating as many people as possible to Mary and her son. Each step of the consecration journey is explained in practical and theological terms, making it accessible to all, regardless of vocation or age. While Kolbe initially targeted men, the principles of holiness are equally relevant to women. The book concludes by empowering you—men and women alike—to be evangelists for the Immaculata and the Gospel and to be spiritual leaders in your family, workplace, and community.Led by the Immaculata invites you to embrace a deeper devotion to Mary and emulate Kolbe's path to holiness through the practical application of the fourteen steps in your daily life.Buy it today! - https://www.avemariapress.com/products/led-by-the-immaculataThanks for listening to Good Distinctions! Full Text of ReadingsMemorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr Lectionary: 415The Saint of the day is Saint Maximilian Mary KolbeSaint Maximilian Mary Kolbe's Story “I don't know what's going to become of you!” How many parents have said that? Maximilian Mary Kolbe's reaction was, “I prayed very hard to Our Lady to tell me what would happen to me. She appeared, holding in her hands two crowns, one white, one red. She asked if I would like to have them—one was for purity, the other for martyrdom. I said, ‘I choose both.' She smiled and disappeared.” After that he was not the same. He entered the minor seminary of the Conventual Franciscans in Lvív–then Poland, now Ukraine– near his birthplace, and at 16 became a novice. Though Maximilian later achieved doctorates in philosophy and theology, he was deeply interested in science, even drawing plans for rocket ships. Ordained at 24, Maximilian saw religious indifference as the deadliest poison of the day. His mission was to combat it. He had already founded the Militia of the Immaculata, whose aim was to fight evil with the witness of the good life, prayer, work, and suffering. He dreamed of and then founded Knight of the Immaculata, a religious magazine under Mary's protection to preach the Good News to all nations. For the work of publication he established a “City of the Immaculata”—Niepokalanow—which housed 700 of his Franciscan brothers. He later founded another one in Nagasaki, Japan. Both the Militia and the magazine ultimately reached the one-million mark in members and subscribers. His love of God was daily filtered through devotion to Mary. In 1939, the Nazi panzers overran Poland with deadly speed. Niepokalanow was severely bombed. Kolbe and his friars were arrested, then released in less than three months, on the feast of the Immaculate Conception. In 1941, Fr. Kolbe was arrested again. The Nazis' purpose was to liquidate the select ones, the leaders. The end came quickly, three months later in Auschwitz, after terrible beatings and humiliations. A prisoner had escaped. The commandant announced that 10 men would die. He relished walking along the ranks. “This one. That one.” As they were being marched away to the starvation bunkers, Number 16670 dared to step from the line. “I would like to take that man's place. He has a wife and children.”“Who are you?”“A priest.” No name, no mention of fame. Silence. The commandant, dumbfounded, perhaps with a fleeting thought of history, kicked Sergeant Francis Gajowniczek out of line and ordered Fr. Kolbe to go with the nine. In the “block of death” they were ordered to strip naked, and their slow starvation began in darkness. But there was no screaming—the prisoners sang. By the eve of the Assumption, four were left alive. The jailer came to finish Kolbe off as he sat in a corner praying. He lifted his fleshless arm to receive the bite of the hypodermic needle. It was filled with carbolic acid. They burned his body with all the others. Fr. Kolbe was beatified in 1971 and canonized in 1982. Reflection Father Kolbe's death was not a sudden, last-minute act of heroism. His whole life had been a preparation. His holiness was a limitless, passionate desire to convert the whole world to God. And his beloved Immaculata was his inspiration. Saint Maximilian Mary Kolbe is a Patron Saint of: AddictsRecovery from drug addiction Learn more about Saint Maximilian Kolbe! Friends of the Rosary, Today is the Memorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941), a martyr and priest. Born in Zdunska Wola, Poland, as Raymond Kolbe, he consecrated himself to the Lord in the Franciscan Order. Filled with love for the Virgin, he founded the Militia of the Immaculata movement of Marian consecration. To better "win the world for the Immaculata," with his preaching and writing, undertook an intense apostolic mission in Europe and Asia. Imprisoned in Auschwitz during the Second World War, he offered himself in exchange for the father of a large family who was to be executed. He was given a lethal injection on August 14, 1941. Pope John Paul II canonized Maximilian as a "martyr of charity" in 1982, proclaiming him the "Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century. Maximilian, patron of the pro-life movement, was a ground-breaking theologian. He developed the Church's understanding of Mary as a "Mediatrix" of all the graces of the Trinity and as an "Advocate" for God's people. "For Jesus Christ, I am prepared to suffer more still," he said. Also, today, on the evening of August 14, the Vigil Mass for the Assumption is celebrated. Full Text of ReadingsMemorial of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr Lectionary: 413The Saint of the day is Saint Maximilian Mary KolbeSaint Maximilian Mary Kolbe's Story “I don't know what's going to become of you!” How many parents have said that? Friends of the Rosary: Today, the Memorial of St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe (1894-1941), Polish priest and martyr, is celebrated by the Universal Church. Maximilian Mary Kolbe founded the Militia of the Immaculate Mary, a movement of Marian consecration that undertook an intense apostolic mission in Europe and Asia. The friars of the Militia of the Immaculate Mary utilized modern printing and administrative techniques to "win the world for the Immaculata". They launched a daily newspaper with a circulation of 230,000, a monthly magazine with a circulation of over one million, and a shortwave radio station. Maximilian was a true "apostle of the mass media" and a ground-breaking theologian. He further developed the Church's understanding of Mary as a "Mediatrix" of all the graces of the Trinity, and as an "Advocate" for God's people. In 1941, the Nazis imprisoned Father Maximilian in the Auschwitz death camp. There he offered his life for another prisoner and was condemned to slow death in a starvation bunker. On August 14, 1941, his impatient captors ended his life with a lethal injection. Pope John Paul II canonized Maximilian as a "martyr of charity" in 1982 and proclaimed him the "Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century." St. Maximilian Kolbe is considered a patron of journalists, families, prisoners, the pro-life movement, and the chemically addicted. Also, today in the evening, the Vigil Mass for the Assumption is celebrated. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! All Your Children, Scattered by Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse is about the lives lived by those in the wake of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Those who hid from it, those who fought against it, those who fled it, and those who were born into it. Telling the story of a family through the eyes of three generations—Blanche, her mother Immaculata, and her son Stokely—one of the many remarkable things about All Your Children, Scattered is how Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse is able to tell the story on a very human scale, without every overlooking the utterly monstrous and inhuman scale of the events. All Your Children, Scattered — translated by Alison Anderson — is, at its heart, a story about family, loss and the desire to return home — whatever “home” means.Buy All Your Children, Scattered: https://www.shakespeareandcompany.com/product/7902877/umubyeyi-mairesse-beata-all-your-children-scattered*Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse was born in Butare, Rwanda in 1979. Welcome to Episode 109 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. Before we go conference-by-conference (at 2:00), we address the newest team in Region 5 -- just a little program called SALISBURY -- and why we think they were moved into this region from the South and what it means for the region moving forward. Then we proceed with the rest of the region, in order: AEC (at 4:50) Cabrini won 31 games last year but will need to replace their best player Immaculata has a ton of talent back and is looking like the favorite Marymount can be counted on to contend atop this conference Marywood leads the rest of the pack Centennial (at 11:10) Can we just have A NORMAL SEASON IN THIS CONFERENCE ALREADY?! Franklin & Marshall has the most talent back of last year's contenders and will obviously be motivated  Johns Hopkins will have a lot of new faces but we know they can be really good Swarthmore is still very talented despite losing half their team to Villanova (slight exaggeration) We could see a lot of moving and shaking up and down the rest of this conference with some coaching changes and intriguing talent on every other team CSAC (at 27:45) Well, well, well, look at Wilson winning 31 games, we love to see it Keystone is always something of a mystery but it's cool that now they have real competition in this conference Landmark (at 34:20) What does the encore look like for Catholic after the best year in program history? Scranton, Moravian and Elizabethtown all have some legit top-end talent but will need a lot more depth to step up to challenge the Cardinals MACC (at 43:15) Lebanon Valley has climbed to the top of this conference in a hurry and has a ton of exciting talent back, even with their top two arms from the '22 team gone York (PA) is always good but have a ton of offense to replace We conclude (at 53:50) with our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat.
