Sometimes the hardest part isn't making the decision. It's staying with it.The initial clarity fades. Doubt gets louder. What once felt obvious suddenly feels uncertain.A decision that was meant to create freedom can quickly become another thing to question. This episode with Maddie Elysse explores why that happens. Why choosing yourself often feels empowering at first and uncomfortable shortly after. Why self-doubt tends to appear when change is real. And why building self-trust has less to do with confidence and more to do with staying present when uncertainty shows up.Because the goal isn't to never doubt yourself. The goal is learning how to trust yourself anyway.Resources Mentioned:Connect with Maddie Elysse: Instagram Website: https://www.maddieelysse.com/Work with me:Breakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present. Delegation isn't usually a systems problem. Most people already know what they could hand off. They've thought about hiring. They've considered asking for help. They've downloaded the planner, created the SOP, or promised themselves they'll stop carrying so much.Yet somehow, everything ends up back on their plate. In this strategic journaling episode, we're exploring what makes letting go so difficult, even when the workload is unsustainable. Because the thing that's keeping you overwhelmed isn't always a lack of support. Sometimes it's a belief that makes doing more feel safer than letting go.Through a series of journaling prompts, you'll uncover what's keeping you stuck in the cycle of over-responsibility and begin identifying the deeper reason delegation feels so hard.Journal Prompts:What are you currently doing yourself, even though someone else could handle it? How does keeping it on your plate make you feel? Why haven't you handed it off yet? What's the real reason? What do you think you need in order to start delegating, or what are you already trying to help yourself trust and let go?Even though doing everything yourself leaves you exhausted, burnt out, and overwhelmed, how might it also be keeping you safe?A question to sit with after this episode:How has the belief underneath your need to do everything been shaping the way you work, lead, and show up in your life?Work with me:The Leaders Table: https://www.samanthapenkoff.com/leaders-tableBreakthrough Intensive: You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present. Your life looks good on paper. The business is working. The relationships are there. You're doing everything you're supposed to do. But something feels off, and you can't quite explain why.In this episode, I share the story of a night that changed everything for me. A few months after my son was born, I found myself overwhelmed, disconnected, and carrying the feeling that I was dropping the ball in every area of my life. Instead of trying to fix it, I locked myself in a room with a notebook and got honest about what was really going on.I talk about what happened when I stopped performing okay, why awareness was more powerful than problem solving, and how that one moment became the beginning of so many changes that followed.Reflection from this episode:What would change if you stopped trying to fix how you feel and simply let yourself be honest about it?If you've been carrying a feeling that something isn't right, even when life looks fine from the outside, this conversation is for you.Work with me:The Leaders Table: https://www.samanthapenkoff.com/leaders-tableBreakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present. You finally sit down for the night, but your mind is already making tomorrow's to do list. You're halfway through a conversation with your partner while mentally drafting an email. You're playing with your child while thinking about the next thing you need to do.In this week's reflection episode, I'm sharing a question I was asked during a recent interview that took me back to a season of my life when work stress followed me everywhere. Even when I was with the people I loved most, my mind was always focused on what was next.I talk about the belief underneath that constant striving and why overwhelm isn't always about your to do list. Sometimes it's about what you're trying not to feel.Today, I invite you to pause before you fix, solve, reframe, or talk yourself out of what you're experiencing. Because you can't move through what you won't let yourself feel.Your reflection for this week:When something feels off, don't rush to fix it, reframe it, or remind yourself what you should be grateful for. Let it be true for a moment. What are you actually feeling before you try to manage it?Most of us are quick to solve what we're feeling. This week, try something different. When something feels off, give yourself a moment before you fix it. Perfectionism, people pleasing, and pretending you have it all together are often talked about as personality traits. What if they're actually survival strategies? In this conversation, I sit down with clinical psychologist and executive coach Dr. Anne Welsh to explore why so many ambitious women find themselves stuck in these patterns, even when they know they're no longer serving them.We talk about the hidden cost of constantly performing, why success can still feel empty when you're disconnected from yourself, and how years of focusing on everyone else's needs can make it difficult to even know what you want anymore.Dr. Anne shares why people pleasing isn't really about being nice, why perfectionism is often rooted in fear, and how self trust is built through small moments of choosing yourself rather than waiting until you're confident enough to do it.We also explore the difference between fear based striving and healthy ambition, and why the goal isn't to become less ambitious but to become more aligned with what you're actually striving for. This is a conversation about coming home to yourself while still creating the life, work, and impact that matter to you.Resources Mentioned:Connect with Dr. Anne Welsh: Instagram | https://drannwelsh.comAmbitious Mothers book (pre-order, Release Day Aug 6) The Should Session: To Stop you from bringing work stress home! You have a list.Maybe it's on paper. Maybe it's in your phone. Maybe it's running through your head right now.And if someone told you to put that list away for a week, no planning, no organising, no keeping track of every little thing, something in you would probably feel uncomfortable. Not because you need the list. Because of what the list helps you avoid feeling.Today's journaling prompts are designed to help you get underneath the overwhelm and uncover the belief that's keeping you busy.Journal Prompts When I picture a day with nothing on my list and nothing that needs to get done, what is my first feeling? Not the first thought. The first feeling. When I'm busy and productive, what does that say about me? You can expand this beyond productivity if it feels more true for you. When you're helping, achieving, showing up, or staying involved, what does that mean about who you are? When I'm still and unproductive, what does that say about me? On the days when you're resting more, doing less, or not going above and beyond, what story do you make that mean about yourself? If you had to stop writing to-do lists for one week, what are you actually afraid would happen? Keep going deeper than the obvious answer. Then go one layer deeper again. What would it mean about me if I let myself rest before I earned it? Take the fear or belief that came up in the previous prompt and place it into this question. Notice what comes up without trying to change it.The goal isn't to stop making lists. It's to notice what happens when there isn't something to organise, fix, achieve, or cross off.Pay attention to what came up as you wrote today. Because the belief underneath your overwhelm is often easier to see in moments of stillness than it is in the middle of a busy day.Resources Mentioned:The Should Session: To Stop you from bringing work stress home! It feels like you're staying on top of everything. But what if your to do list is helping create the very overwhelm you're trying to escape? This conversation looks at the hidden comfort of staying busy, why empty space can feel surprisingly uncomfortable, and what might actually be underneath the constant need to keep doing. If you've been telling yourself things will finally calm down once the list is shorter, this episode invites you to consider a different possibility.Maybe the list isn't the problem. You keep thinking about making the change. Setting the boundary. Starting the thing. Having the hard conversation. But somehow, you keep ending up back in the same place. Not because you don't care. Because some part of your current life still feels safer than the unknown. This episode is an invitation to stop overthinking and start getting honest about what your comfort zone is protecting you from.Journal prompts:What is the one thing you keep circling back to but haven't fully committed to yet? What is it that you want to feel, create, or do?If you fully committed to that decision or vision, what are you afraid of? What do you think you'd be risking? If you just stayed where you are, claiming it might get easier or a sign will come, what feels safe and comfy cozy about right now?The journaling prompts in this session will help you uncover what you've been avoiding, what you're afraid could happen if you actually moved forward, and what staying where you are has been giving you emotionally.Because sometimes the hardest part isn't making the change. I've noticed that so many women already know they're overwhelmed. We know we're carrying too much. We know we're stuck in “I should” thoughts all day long. But what actually changes things is understanding the belief underneath those thoughts.Because underneath “I should be doing more” is usually something deeper. If I rest, I'm lazy.If I need help, I'm failing. If I'm not the one holding everything together, I'm not enough. In this episode, I talk about the guilt, pressure, and all or nothing mindset that keeps so many women stuck in overfunctioning at work, at home, and inside their own minds.I also walk through the deeper work that has to happen before real change can actually stick. Not just replacing thoughts with positive affirmations, but questioning the standards, expectations, and beliefs that have been running the show for years. This conversation includes real examples from coaching women through motherhood, leadership, rest, productivity, and the fear of slowing down.If this episode resonates, I want you to pay attention to the questions that come up while listening. Your answers will tell you far more than your to do list ever will.Resources Mentioned:The Should Session: To Stop you from bringing work stress home! Something in life isn't fitting the way it used to. The path that once made sense now feels heavy, forced, or disconnected from who you actually are. But walking away from it brings up its own fear. Fear of disappointing people. Fear of losing the identity attached to it. Fear of not knowing what comes next. This journaling episode is about looking underneath that hesitation and getting honest about what's really keeping you stuck.Sam walks through four prompts around change, identity, grief, and the patterns that have quietly been there all along.Journal PromptsThink back to a time in your life when you navigated significant change. Maybe it was having kids, changing jobs, moving, ending a relationship, whatever it might be. What did you figure out? What strengths did you use? If you did that then, what does that tell you about what you're capable of now?Picture the path you're “supposed” to be on right now. The promotion. The title. The next milestone everyone expects from you. Maybe even the one you expect from yourself. What does your day look like? How do you feel by the end of it? What lights you up? What drains you? What does your family dynamic look like? Not what it should feel like. What it would actually feel like based on your current trajectory. If you walked away from what you're doing now, what would you be grieving? Maybe it's the identity. The validation. The security. The stability. The path you thought your life would take. Or where you thought you'd be by now. Then ask yourself: what would I be moving toward? What keeps calling me that I continue to ignore?Think about the last time you felt fully in your zone. When work didn't feel like work. When conversations felt energizing. When something came naturally to you and you felt good doing it. Where were you? What were you doing? Who were you with? What kind of work were you helping people with? Then look back across your life. Where else has that feeling shown up before? What's the pattern that's been there all along? This episode is a space to uncover resistance, reconnect with yourself, and start creating a life that actually fits instead of forcing yourself to stay attached to a version of life that no longer does.Work with me:The Leaders Table: https://www.samanthapenkoff.com/leaders-tableBreakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present. Less distracted. More connected to my intuition. More intentional with how I spend my time, energy, and attention. This episode is a personal reflection on the shifts that happened when I stopped constantly consuming and started paying attention to what actually felt good, calming, aligned, and true for me.I talk about rediscovering creativity through art, changing my relationship with social media, making decisions from intuition instead of logic alone, investing in myself differently, and how much my identity has shifted over the past year. Some changes happen loudly. You keep telling yourself this is just who I am. It sounds true. Being messy. Always late. Bad with money. The one who doesn't follow through. You've said it enough times that it feels settled, like something you don't question anymore. But there's still a part of you that doesn't fully agree. Those labels didn't come out of nowhere. Something happened. A season got hard. Someone said something. Or you repeated it enough times that it stuck. And at some point it helped you. It made things make sense. But now it feels limiting.Today you're not trying to fix yourself. You're just looking at what you've been believing and asking if it's actually true all of the time. Even finding one small moment where it isn't starts to shift things. This is for you if you've accepted a label about yourself that still stings a little.Prompts to sit with:I'm just someone who…......Write the first thing that comes up. Don't overthink it. Go with the one that feels the strongest or the one you've quietly made peace with.Where did that label come from? Was it something someone said, a season where it felt true, or something you repeated until it became your identity. Just notice what comes up.Is there any evidence that this isn't the full story. Think of one moment, one situation, or one area of your life that contradicts this label. Even if it feels small.Who would you be without this label? Not a completely different version of you. Something starts to feel off, even when everything looks like it's working. The offers are selling. The structure makes sense. On paper, it's solid. But underneath that, there's resistance. Not loud, not dramatic. Just a quiet knowing that something doesn't fit anymore. This episode goes into a shift that happened behind the scenes. Moving away from group programs, stepping out of the constant launch cycle, and facing the discomfort of letting go of what used to work. Not because it failed, but because it stopped feeling aligned. There's a deeper pattern here. Building a business the way it's supposed to be built. Making decisions based on what's proven, what's safe, what other people are doing. And then hitting a point where that approach no longer works, even if it once did.Time away from the noise created space to think differently. Not from comparison, not from strategy, but from honesty. That's where a new question came in. What would happen if the decision didn't have to make logical sense. That question led to something completely different. A room. In person. No pitching. No performing. Just real connection, real conversations, and space to be fully seen as both the woman and the business owner. What came out of that is The Leaders Table. This episode is for the woman who feels the shift but keeps trying to make the old way work. This is where you either stay stuck in comparison… or gently start meeting your life as it is.This journaling practice walks you through both. The version of life you expected and the one you're actually living. What it feels like. What you're making it mean. And how to begin moving forward without forcing yourself to rush past anything. If life hasn't gone the way you thought it would, this gives you a way to process it and start finding your footing again.Journal PromptsWhat did you expect your life to look like right now? Turning a year older is supposed to feel a certain way. More settled. More clear. Like things have clicked into place. But that's not always the case. Life still feels like it's shifting. You're figuring it out as you go. And there's a quiet gap between what you expected and what's actually here. That's what this episode is about. The version of life that was supposed to feel established by now. The moment you realize it doesn't look like that. And what starts to open up when you question whether that version was ever right for you in the first place.Because maybe nothing has gone wrong. Maybe the shifting, the uncertainty, the not-quite-there feeling — that's not the problem. That's the season. We get into what it looks like to invest in yourself before everything else. To trust your own instincts without needing to justify them. And to let yourself feel love and presence in the life you actually have. There's always that one thing sitting in the background. The email draft, the decision that hasn't been made, the task that keeps getting pushed to later. It starts small, but it lingers. It shows up as mental noise, low-grade guilt, and a constant sense of “I need to get to that.” What looks like clutter is often just a delayed decision. This strategic journaling practice is a way to see what's actually being avoided, understand what's underneath it, and create a clear, simple path forward without waiting to feel ready.Journal PromptsWhat is the pile right now? The laundry, the inbox, the conversation that hasn't happened. Everything that feels like clutter, physical or mental. Write it all out. From that list, what is the one thing that hasn't been done? The one that brings up that low-grade guilt every time it comes to mind. What's the real reason it hasn't been done? Not “there hasn't been time.” Go beneath that. What feels like it might happen if a decision is made or action is taken? What feeling is being avoided? Is that fear actually true? What happens if it does come true? What happens if it doesn't?What is one small step that can be taken today? Not the whole solution. There's always that one thing you keep meaning to get to. Clear the desk. Tackle the closet. Finally deal with the pile that's been sitting there for weeks. But when the moment comes, it feels like too much. So it gets left. Again. And somewhere along the way, it quietly turns into “I'm just a messy person.”This conversation with Tracy Hoth shifts that.Clutter isn't the problem. It's delayed decisions. And when you see it that way, it becomes something you can actually move through.Instead of focusing on what to get rid of, you start with what you love. What you actually use. You begin to question the identity you've been holding onto. And instead of thinking about everything at once, you come back to one small thing you can finish today. Not everything. And instead, you do one more thing.I took myself through a real coaching session after noticing how much stress I've been holding and how often I've been rushing through simple, everyday moments. Not because I don't know what to do. Someone calls you sweet. It sounds like a compliment. But something about it feels off.Because sometimes “sweet” carries an unspoken meaning underneath. Easygoing. Agreeable. How it can feel both kind and diminishing at the same time. Especially in work and relationships where being taken seriously matters. After a conversation where Sam spoke up, challenged someone, and asked direct questions, the feedback she heard was that she was sweet. You're not doing anything wrong. But you are carrying far more than your brain was meant to hold. The lists. The reminders. The mental tabs you keep open so nothing falls apart. If you're the person who remembers everything, anticipates everything, and keeps everything moving, this one is for you. This episode builds on Part One of the Beyond Awareness series. If you listened on Tuesday, you identified the thought loop behind your mental load. Today, we slow it down and give your brain space to let go.Journal Prompts To Release the Mental LoadList everything that is currently taking up space in your brain right now. Work and home tasks.Things you're afraid you'll forget. Decisions you haven't made yet. Don't organize it. Don't clean it up. Just write what's actually there. From that list, choose the thing that feels most urgent or most stressful. Ask yourself what you believe will happen if you stop thinking about this. If you let it go. If you trust someone else to handle it. If you forget it completely. What is the worst case scenario your brain is trying to prevent? If you weren't the person who remembered everything and held it all together, who would you be? What would that mean about you? Would you still be valuable? Still worthy of your career, your family, and the life you're building? What would you need to believe about yourself, or trust about your life, to let your brain rest? What permission do you need to give yourself? If something came up while you were writing, that's your signal you've gone beyond awareness. You didn't find another solution. You know what to do for your health. You've known for years. But knowing hasn't made it stick - and starting over is getting exhausting. This episode picks up where my conversation with Dr. Amy Beheimer left off and slows things down enough to look at what actually stops health habits from sticking. Not willpower. Not discipline. The thoughts and feelings that show up before you ever take action. This is a guided journaling episode designed to help you understand why certain health goals keep falling apart - and what needs to shift so you can follow through in a way that actually fits your life.We go beyond “I should be doing this” and into the beliefs, expectations, and quiet pressure that keep pulling you back into the same cycle.Journal through these prompts:What health habit do you know you “should” be doing, but keep not doing because it feels too small to matter? When you think about doing that habit, what do you tell yourself that stops you? Not the logical reason - the automatic thought that shows up.If you're brutally honest, do you actually want this health goal? Or do you think you should want it because everyone else does? If you don't want it, what would feel good to your body instead? What would need to change about this habit for you to genuinely want to do it? Not force yourself. Not white-knuckle it. Actually want it.Dr. Amy says habits aren't just what we do or don't do - they're the thoughts and feelings that come first. You keep telling yourself to try harder. Be more disciplined. Stick to the plan this time. But the problem isn't willpower, it's that your brain was never designed to change habits that way. When goals quietly fall apart, it's usually not because you didn't care enough. It's because the strategy was wrong. In today's conversation, I'm joined by Dr. Amy Behimer to talk about why most goals fail, what actually makes habits stick, and how to work with your brain instead of constantly fighting it. We talk about the hidden layers beneath your habits, why motivation fades, and how tiny, intentional shifts can change everything over time. This episode is especially for you if you've ever started the year feeling hopeful, only to feel frustrated when the momentum disappears. Your nervous system is still on edge. Burnout hasn't lifted.Therapy creates insight - but insight alone doesn't change how you live. The relief comes from what happens between sessions, not just inside them.In this conversation, I explain the two gaps therapy doesn't close on its own: The space between insight and reflection, and the space between knowing and doing. We talk about why awareness without embodiment keeps people stuck, how old patterns like people-pleasing and over-functioning survive even after big realizations, and what it actually looks like to practice change in real life.If therapy has helped you understand yourself, but you're still tired, this episode shows you what's missing - and how to use what you're already learning to create real relief.Work with me:Breakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting & be emotionally present. Have you noticed how your body can be still, but your mind keeps going? The same thought. The same worry. The same unfinished conversation looping, even after you've rested. You might be sleeping more. Taking breaks. Trying to slow down. And yet, you still wake up tired. In my conversation earlier this week with Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, author of The Seven Types of Rest, she shared something important: emotional rest doesn't come from stopping the noise. It comes from processing what your mind is holding onto.Today, we slow things down. Not to fix anything. Not to solve the problem. But to create space for what's been quietly draining you.Journal with me using these prompts:What thought, worry, or conversation keeps replaying in my mind right now? Write it down exactly as it sounds in my head. No filtering. Just capture the loop. What type of rest deficit might this be pointing to? Mental, emotional, social, spiritual, physical, sensory, or creative. Why am I actually holding on to this thought? What do I believe will happen if I let it go or don't solve it right now? What am I afraid this situation means about me?If I truly wanted to pour back into this depleted area — not just stop the bleeding — what would that look like? What would help me feel restored, not just less drained?By the end of this episode, you'll feel calmer and clearer — not because everything is resolved, but because you understand what your mind has been trying to protect.Resources Mentioned:Free Calm Mind Blueprint: http://www.samanthapenkoff.com/calm-mind-podNewsletter: www.samanthapenkoff.com/promptsWork with me:Breakthrough Intensive - You already know you should slow down, delegate more, stop overcommitting.
