Is it okay to use large language models in the research process? For what task, exactly, and to automate the task or to augment the researcher? In this episode, we try to explore whether and how LLMs could be used in five aspects of the research process - for paper writing, reviewing, data analysis, as a subject of research, or as a surrogate for research subjects. We also discuss whether they should be used at all, and what some long-term consequences could be of such a choice, and we develop a number of heuristic rules to help researcher make decisions about using LLMs for research. Jay Abbasi believes that how we work should enhance our lives, not drain them. Leading training initiatives at Tesla, he experienced the demands of a high-performance culture firsthand, seeing the toll it takes on even the most resilient professionals. When his father passed away unexpectedly, it drove home a life-changing truth: success shouldn't come at the expense of well-being. This is the message Jay brings to leaders as a keynote speaker and coach, helping them achieve high performance without the cost of burnout. Today, he bring that lesson to audiences worldwide, speaking on mindfulness, resilience, and well-being to help professionals unlock their full potential without sacrificing happiness or health. He has coached leaders at Google, Amazon, Wells Fargo, and many other high-demand organizations, and trained thousands across diverse industries. What he knows for sure is that when individuals recharge, reframe, and reconnect with purpose, they don't just perform better; it strengthens entire organizations. In episode 539 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, Jay tells us why he decided to go to Seton Hall for his undergraduate (and graduate) programs, how losing his father changed his life, what are some strategies to prevent burnout in a high-pressure environment like Tesla, how to engage your team members, what he wished he knew about leadership in his 20's, how you can create an environment where people feel safe to take risks and share new ideas, advice for students about finding work that aligns with their values, how you can approach continuous learning and growth while managing such significant responsibilities, and what you should do when someone on your team is struggling with their mental health. Enjoy!

What do academics have to offer that practitioners do not already have? They have the data academics want. They can analyse it by themselves, sometimes better than academics. They are also not reading our articles. So why would academics bother engaging with them? Why should we even bridge that perceived or existing gap between theory and practice? Because academics need to dip their toes into practice, and they need to mingle with industry to stay relevant. So says Jonny Holmström, director and co-founder of the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation. He has been at the forefront of doing academic research that blends theory and practice, rigor and relevance, and he knows a thing or two about how to do so successfully. His secret? Maximize the gap between academics and practitioners, don't close it. References Holmström, J., Magnusson, J., & Mähring, M. (2021). The Apprentice is a 2024 biographical drama film that examines Donald Trump's career as a real estate businessman in New York in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as his relationship with lawyer Roy Cohn. Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, the film stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Cohn, Martin Donovan as Trump's father Fred, and Maria Bakalova as Trump's first wife, Ivana. An international co-production between Canada, Denmark, Ireland, and the United States, the film was announced in May 2018, but languished for several years until Abbasi, Stan, and Strong joined in fall 2023. After premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2024, the film struggled to find American distribution due to its subject matter and an attempt by Trump's legal team to block its release. Briarcliff Entertainment eventually bought the rights, and theatrically released it on October 11, 2024. The film received generally positive reviews from critics.
Elokuva "The Apprentice" kertoo nuoresta Donald Trumpista 1970- ja 80-lukujen New Yorkissa.
For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham & Giovanni Lago to review and discuss the latest film from Ali Abbasi, "The Apprentice," starring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Maria Baklava & Martin Donovan. After having its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Abbasi's "Rise of Donald Trump" biopic drama sat without distribution, got stuck in legality issues, and came under heavy scrutiny from supporters (and yes, even opposers) of Donald Trump, leaving us to wonder if the film would ever be released. Well, now, it's finally playing in theaters from Briarcliff Entertainment, and we are here to give you our SPOILER-FILLED thoughts on the performances, writing, direction, awards season chances, and implications the film may or may not have on the election and how the outcome of the election may influence whether audiences even watch the film.

Did you know that when you spend time on an online platform, you could be experiencing between six to eight different experimental treatments that stem from several hundred A/B tests that run concurrently? That's how common digital experimentation is today. And while this may be acceptable in industry, large-scale digital experimentation poses some substantial challenges for researchers wanting to evaluate theories and disconfirm hypotheses through randomized controlled trials done on digital platforms. Thankfully, the brilliant has a new paper forthcoming that illuminates the orthogonal testing plane problem and offers some guidelines for sidestepping the issue. So if experiments are your thing, you really need to listen to what is really going on out there. References Abbasi, A., Somanchi, S., & Kelley, K. (2024). Send us a Text Message. It's three years since the Taliban took back control in Afghanistan. Inside Geneva talks to an Afghan human rights defender.“I was scared and I could see it coming. Yes, I mean, I think for the women of Afghanistan, we knew that the Taliban taking over would mean a dark future for women,” says Fereshta Abbasi from Human Rights Watch. In three years, women's rights have been steadily, and brutally, repressed.“No matter what we have done in the past three years, we haven't been able to reverse a single decree of the Taliban that is restricting women's rights,” continues Abbasi.“In 2024, Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where women do not have access to education beyond the sixth grade. Women do not have the right to most employment. Women do not have the right to freedom of movement. Women do not have the right to protest and assemble. So, I think we need to speak about it,” says Abbasi. What can we do to support Afghan women?“I think it's very important to stand with them, to listen to them, and to amplify their voices. It's very difficult to think of a better Afghanistan, a brighter future for women under Taliban rule. And I don't want to think about that. I want to believe and hold my strength together, that this madness cannot last.”Join host Imogen Foulkes on Inside Geneva.Get in touch! As Ryan Kelly wrote for Crain's, “Dr. Abbasi is working through fear, politics and stigma to treat mental health in Michigan's Muslim, minority and LGBTQ+ communities, while navigating geopolitical events.” Conversation Highlights: (0:35) – Dr. Abbasi on the honor from Crain's. (1:06) – When how and why did you first come to the United States? And why did you choose to come to MSU? The welcoming Spartan culture played a role. (2:07) – Describe your research and clinical interests. “To care is to cure. Sometimes you find your purpose and sometimes your purpose finds you.” (3:44) – What do you mean by the color of wellness? – “Wellness is best when viewed through the lens of equality. It's not only the absence of disease but also living to the best of your potential.” (6:35) – How do you define lifestyle medicine? – “What's the price of blueberries, and what's the price of a cheeseburger? Your zip code should not determine your wellness.” (8:14) – What are you doing to address these issues? – “Each one of us can be part of the solution or part of the problem. We have to stay visible to be viable. You can't fly under the radar.” (11:34) – As a psychiatrist, are you pleased by society's increased focus on mental health? “Yes, but is it translating into funding, resources and effective policy? I see huge gaps there. We need to bring prevention to mental health, too.” (16:31) – Do you believe that many of the available resources are underutilized? “There is a trust deficit with people of color.” (18:42) – What is the 988 crisis line? And what is Avail to Prevail? “It's about creating more awareness of what mental illnesses are and identifying the resources and building trust.” (21:02) – What are your healing circles? “They're designed to provide a safe space. We want everyone to thrive and come together. You can feel safe, speak up and be validated and heard.” (24:38) – How is the situation in Gaza impacting your work, and why do you feel Muslims tend to feel unsafe talking about their mental health? (30:43) – What is the Cultural Psychiatry Curriculum? – “We don't live in a vacuum. We all bring our culture with us. I tell the new generation it's your iCloud that you're bringing with you. The lens through which we view the world is partially defined by where we were born, how we were raised, what our belief system is, etc.” (32:58) – What is the Muslim Mental Health Conference and Consortium? “When you put it on a group to be a model minority that is also under political surveillance, that's a lethal combination.” (36:21) – The Greater Lansing United Nations Association is honoring you with a Global Goals – Local Leaders Award. “What I like about awards is that I feel like I'm being heard. It's starting to matter what I'm saying.” (37:44) – What are your final thoughts? – “I challenge each one of us to go deeper into understanding what equity and inclusiveness means. MSU and the Spartan spirit gets it. That's why so many of us are attracted here. What's meaningful for me always is being a Spartan.” Listen to MSU Today with Russ White on the radio and through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you get your shows.

In this episode, Austin talks with Ahmad Abbasi (Syndica) about Sig, a new Solana validator client built in Zig. Unlike other Solana validator clients, Sig is optimized for reads as opposed to writes. Ahmad unpacks the seemingly herculean task of writing a new validator client from scratch and why this was an important decision for Syndica's core business of providing RPC node infrastructure. He explains Zig's unique advantages in this context and how Sig will ultimately make running validators node more accessible for the entire ecosystem. You've likely heard about the countless benefits of magnesium for overall health, but did you know it also plays a crucial role in sleep? As one of The 3 Pillars of VIGOR, getting sufficient quality sleep must be a nonnegotiable for anyone who wants to maintain good health. Unfortunately, many people struggle with sleep, with almost 10% of Americans taking sleep medication. One way to enhance sleep quality is by getting enough magnesium. This guide explores the connection between magnesium and sleep, covers various magnesium supplements, and helps you find the best magnesium for sleep to optimize your rest. Why Magnesium Matters for Sleep Magnesium is a vital mineral involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including nerve and muscle function, maintaining a healthy immune system, and regulating blood pressure.de Baaij, J. H., Hoenderop, J. G., & Bindels, R. J. (2015). Magnesium in man: implications for health and disease. Physiological reviews, 95(1), 1-46. One of the most significant roles magnesium plays is in sleep quality. Magnesium contributes to the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles, and supports the function of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and sleep.Abbasi, B., Kimiagar, M., Sadeghniiat, K., Shirazi, M. M., Hedayati, M., & Rashidkhani, B. (2012). The effect of magnesium supplementation on primary insomnia in elderly: A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial. Journal of research in medical sciences, 17(12), 1161. Unfortunately, magnesium deficiency is quite common, with studies suggesting that up to 68% of adults in the United States do not meet the recommended daily intake.Moshfegh, A., Goldman, J., Ahuja, J., Rhodes, D., & LaComb, R. (2009). What We Eat in America, NHANES 2005-2006: Usual Nutrient Intakes from Food and Water Compared to 1997 Dietary Reference Intakes for Vitamin D, Calcium, Phosphorus, and Magnesium. US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. A lack of magnesium can result in poor sleep quality, insomnia, and even restless leg syndrome.Hornyak, M., Haas, P., Veit, J., Gann, H., & Riemann, D. (2004). Magnesium therapy for periodic leg movements-related insomnia and restless legs syndrome: an open pilot study. Sleep, 27(5), 1040-1048. Types of Magnesium Supplements There are several types of magnesium supplements available, each with unique pros and cons: Magnesium oxide: A common, low-cost option with a high magnesium content but low absorption rate.Lindberg, J. S., Zobitz, M. M., Poindexter, J. R., & Pak, C. Y. (1990). Magnesium bioavailability from magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide. Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 9(1), 48-55. Due to its poor bioavailability, magnesium oxide may not be the best choice for sleep improvement. Magnesium citrate: More readily absorbed than magnesium oxide but may cause gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea, in some individuals.Walker, A. F., Marakis, G., Christie, S., & Byng, M. (2003). Mg citrate found more bioavailable than other Mg preparations in a randomised, double-blind study. Magnesium research, 16(3), 183-191. Although it's more bioavailable than magnesium oxide, its potential side effects make it less suitable for sleep improvement. Magnesium glycinate: A well-absorbed form that is gentle on the stomach and may improve sleep quality.Cao, Y., Zhen, S., Taylor, A. W., Appleton, S., Atlantis, E., & Shi, Z. (2018). Magnesium Intake and Sleep Disorder Symptoms: Findings from the Jiangsu Nutrition Study of Chinese Adults at Five-Year Follow-Up. Nutrients, 10(10), 1354. This chelated form of magnesium binds magnesium to the amino acid glycine, which has calming effects on the brain and nervous system, making it an excellent choice for sleep improvement. Magnesium malate: Known for its energy-boosting properties, it may not be the best option for sleep.Uysal, N., Kizildag, S., Yuce, Z., Guvendi, G., Kandis, S.,

It led to him joining Tesla and in under 4 years he worked his way up to running Sales Training at a national level, responsible for the development and execution of training/coaching programs for hundreds of employees throughout North America.
