First, we kick things off with a lively discussion on the bottom 10 movies rated on Rotten Tomatoes. What makes these films so universally panned? Are there any hidden gems among the wreckage, or are they all truly as bad as the critics say? Next, we delve into the fascinating world of actors known for only one iconic role. From the legendary Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker to Macaulay Culkin's unforgettable Kevin McCallister in Home Alone, we explore the careers of these actors and how one role can define an entire career. In a heartfelt segment, Johnny joins us to give an update on his daughter's health. We get personal and supportive as we hear the latest on her journey and how Johnny and his family are coping and finding strength. Our movie review this week features the 2024 action comedy The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce, The Fall Guy is loosely based, very loosely based, on the 1980s TV series of the same name. The plot follows Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), a former Hollywood stuntman who now works as a valet after a career-ending injury. Colt is pulled back into the industry by film producer Gail Meyer, who recruits him for a new movie directed by his ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). As Colt navigates the tumultuous production of the science fiction epic Metalstorm in Sydney, he discovers that the film's lead actor, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), is involved in a dangerous conspiracy. The movie also stars Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, and Winston Duke, who bring depth and excitement to this action-packed and comedic narrative. Join us as we break down the film's plot, performances, and whether it lives up to the legacy of the original TV series. Don't miss this episode packed with movie critiques, personal stories, and plenty of nerdy fun! Tune in to Nerds Talking The Podcast for all this and more. Folks, you're missing out if you haven't seen "The Fall Guy." The Geeks recently saw the new action/romantic-comedy in the theater (one of them twice), and now they're reviewing & recommending it to you, our discerning stunt team. - This movie is part action movie, part romantic comedy. For the action part, it's a "love letter" for stunt people. What did the Geeks think about the stunts in the movie? - Which scenes, stunts, moments, techniques, and running gags did the Geeks enjoy in the movie? - When Todd went to see this a 2nd time by himself, how successful was his attempt to write notes in a dark theater? - Three of the Geeks saw the movie, but only two Geeks could make it for the review. What was one of the complaints of the Geek who couldn't record? - How convincing was the romantic comedy portion? Were the performances, dialogue, and editing, good enough to fill in any blanks that we didn't see on camera, while Colt & Jody were apart? Did Ryan Gossling & Emily Blunt have good chemistry when their characters were reunited? - How well were the action & romantic comedy aspects blended together? Through the writing, directing, and editing, did the two genres fit together well? - In the spoiler section, what was one Geek's issues with the plot and the movie-within-a-movie, "Metalstorm"? - What comparison did one Geek make between "The Fall Guy" and "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King"? - What surprise twist at the end did one Geek think was one of the best jokes in the movie? - Was "Metalstorm" more "Mad Max," "Rebel Moon," or a little of both? - If Dave Teague were still alive (not to be confused with Dave Shutt, who's still with us; he's fine, folks), what would Dave have thought about this movie, in general, and also about the end credits being refreshingly short? - How would this movie have been received if it had come out in the '90s? - What grade would Dave Teague have given this movie? - And, bringing topics together, what ultra-bloody 1980s action movie, still a Dave Teague pick left on our list, did the Geeks randomly roll for a future review? Listen now for the answers to these and other death-defying, safety-tested questions as we take the plunge with, "The Fall Guy." NOTE: After the SPOILER SECTION starts, you can SKIP AHEAD to 01:08:33 for SPOILER-FREE ratings, the roll for a future topic, salutations, and some trivia about the Fall Guy theme song, "The Unknown Stuntman." It's a Metal Storm! Join DJ Loki this week for heavy songs about heavy weather ⛈
Drew Pearce is the writer of movies like Iron Man 3, Hobbs and Shaw and 2018's Hotel Artemis – the Scottish-born storyteller's directorial debut. This week, he's back in cinemas with The Fall Guy – a car-flipping, boat-exploding, bullet-dodging, unicorn-hallucinating love letter to practical filmmaking that's pure adrenaline and charisma. The David Leitch-directed film – loosely adapted from the 1980s TV show of the same name – stars Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman whose career isn't the only thing derailed when he suffers a terrible accident on the set of an action movie. His fledgling romance with emerging director Jody Moreno, played by Emily Blunt, also hits the rocks – that is, until an opportunity arises to perhaps win her back. The star of Jody's new sci-fi blockbuster, Metalstorm, has gone missing. If Colt can use his stuntman skills to track down the Hollywood A-list actor he used to double, he decides that Jody might give him another try. In the spoiler conversation with Drew that you're about to hear, you'll discover how the film began life as a more straight-action, Mission: Impossible-inspired stunt bonanza. You'll also hear how there was a moment where The Fall Guy was going to be a “jukebox musical” devoted to the band Kiss. We talk about how the movie fits into a lineage of films about filmmaking that runs from Singing In The Rain to Babylon; what the movie is designed to express about the replacement of practical filmmaking techniques with VFX tools; and how a near-death experience years ago, in which Drew technically died for a minute or two, gives him a different appreciation of moments like this one, on the brink of releasing one of summer 2024's most joyful, exciting blockbusters.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Welcome to Talkin' Slayer: A Podcast and Half-@ssed Audiobook. Today's topic is the individual founding members of Slayer. We profile them and tell you how they met. And we celebrate the International Day of Slayer, June 6. After some introductory episodes, Talkin' Slayer tells the story of the Los Angeles heavy metal institution, in chronological order: how the band happened, when things fell apart, how they put them back together, and what it all meant — no, MEANS. After Episode Nine, Patreon supporters receive every weekly episode. Free listeners get every other episode, every other week. Learn more at Patreon.com/SlayerBook. Every week, host D.X. Ferris presents another chapter — sometimes two or three — in the history of Slayer, from the groundbreaking group's pre-history in Chile to their hazy, fractured, mysterious end in 2019. Slayer was the first Big Four band to break up. Why? Well, it's a long story... The Talkin' Slayer podcast program show is written, deeply researched, lightly edited, and mostly rehearsed, with some production value. This is an all-killer-no-filler podcast: The episode proper begins after roughly 60 seconds of introduction, tops. No need to skip the first 15 minutes. The music changes every week. Ferris is an award-winning writer. He has worked for Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, The AV Club, and Decibel magazine. He is a fan. He has opinions. He is the author of something like nine books, depending how you count them. Two are about Slayer. The first one is an entire book about the classic thrash album Reign in Blood, which is part of the fairly prestigious 33 1/3 book series. His bigger Slayer book, though, is the 2023 update of the full-on band biography "Slayer 66 & 2/3: A Metal Band Biography, POSTMORTEM Edition." (This is the third edition; it was previously known as "Slayer 66 & 2/3: The Jeff and Dave Years...."). And that book is mostly what he'll be talking about when we're talkin' Slayer. Most episodes are audio adaptations of chapters from that book. Some have original and/or bonus material. Thank you for checking it out. Learn more at... There are really no words we can put here that will even come close to preparing everyone for this weeks episode. We wish we could go into more detail or maybe prepare you for what's about to transpire but...somethings are better left to be experienced first hand.

A negative pickup for Universal Pictures to cash in on the 3D trend partially initiated by the company's own Jaws 3, low budget sci fi epic Metalstorm failed to spark at the box office. Of the many quirky elements of the film, it's bombastic orchestral score sticks out as belonging to a different movie. Composed by Band's brother Richard, the music gives the film a gravitas that the chintzy special effects, languid pace and bad acting don't. The film stars soap star Jeffrey Byron, Australian Mike Preston, the late Kelly Preston, genre fave Tim Thomerson and Night Court's Richard Moll. Dan and Vicky give their thoughts on Metalstorm as well as recently seen items including Halloween Kills, The French Dispatch, Spielberg's The Sugarland Express, black Western The Harder They Fall and 1980 slasher Prom Night. It's Missing Real...in 3-D ! ! ! By that I mean 3 times Dumber than usual. We've got a double feature of 2 low-budget Road Warrior rip-offs so derivative they really make Max Mad. You've probably never even heard of them, although they feature young actresses who shortly afterward became rather famous: there's that Molly Ringworm chick with the red hair and the blonde who married John Travolta (no, not Olivia Newton-John!). From the classic 1980s, these movies were intended to be viewed wearing 3-D glasses, but I'd recommend blindfolds. Yes, they're awful, but also awful fun to talk about. So watch out! This podcast is COMIN' AT YA! (incidentally, another bad 3-D movie from that era!)
This space-western that never goes into space, starring nobody in particular, and featuring all the crisp cinematography of an episode of Airwolf, is easily the worst film we've watched for this podcast. There's a lot of spleen-venting in this episode--you've been warned.
Join Pat Dooley and Ricardo Giraldo for the first episode of round three of the Nintendo Entertainment Center King of Consoles tournament, where racing game launch title Excitebike takes on gravity-manipulating platformer Metal Storm. Two games enter, only one can advance to the third round! Will it be Hobby, riding his bike across a custom course that spells out the name of this podcast? Or will it be the M-308 Gunner, pulling off another huge upset on its run to immortality? It's a fun conversation, so please subscribe to make sure you don't miss a second of the action! Questions? Comments? Feel free to reach out via email, Facebook, or Twitter! Rob Castoria (AKA Big Rob) and I became friends through Instagram. When I saw he was in one of my favorite NYHC bands Merauder, I reverted back to being a kid again, as I reminisced of having discovered them for the first time when I heard “Find My Way” on a Century Media Records compilation. The more I got to know him, we discussed having him on the podcast to talk about his story, which I'm honored to have done so. Rob started playing in bands in the 1980s with Metalstorm, when metal ruled in venues on Long Island and in Brooklyn/Queens at venues such as Sundance and L'amour, and when hardcore ruled Sunday matinees at CBGB. Before that, he meticulously practiced his instrument, always reaching for self-improvement. It's true what they say - you never stop learning, and Rob is proof of that. In the last 10 years, Rob formed Maniac Rise, and released EPs on various streaming platforms. They were also invited to participate on a tribute album to The Godfather of Metal (and the God of Metal Riffs) Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath called “The Great Lefty,” in which they contributed “Time Is Mine” (released in 2000 on Iommi's debut solo CD “Iommi” with Phil Anselmo of Pantera/Down/Superjoint on vocals). To keep Rob's name relevant in the NY music scene and build momentum for Maniac Rise, he performed various “shreds” throughout NYC and Long Island, where he was spotlighted as a soloist during setups and breakdowns for performing acts. Now, Rob is one of two guitarists in the band that kept crossover hardcore alive and well in the 90s - Merauder. On top of that, Rob is also the tech for Joey Z., guitarist of one of the most important bands of the 90s that are still going today - Life Of Agony. Rob is one of those guitar players that people NEED to hear. On top of being a great musician, he's a great guy. And I'm happy to bring him to my platform to discuss his experience, his opinions, and his goals. With the pandemic subsiding, it's time for Rob to get back to doing what the good lord put him on this earth to do - shred guitars, and melt faces in the process. Welcome back to Pursuing Pixels. We're itching to dig into some ‘retro gaming' goodness on ALL fronts this week, so let's get right into the action… Kevin kicks things off with an awesome new indie arcade game, Satryn, that is heavily inspired by retro classics like Robotron, while simultaneously leaving them in the dust—this one is still a work-in-progress, so we'll definitely be keeping you updated! From there, John & Kevin dig deep into a handful of games on the PICO-8 fantasy console! We kick things off with a couple of gems from one of our favorite indie devs, Sebastian Lind, Cards With Personalities & I Demand Coffee—the former is an incredibly deep deckbuilding RPG, while the latter is a super solid puzzle platformer! After that, we dig into a couple of precision platformers, GRiPPY & Yolo Solo, each with their own unique take on climbing your way around from point A to point B. Finally, Randall & Kevin keep the NES/Famicom train rolling from last week, and check out a couple more semi-obscure titles from Nintendo's 8-bit era. First, we dig into the run ‘n' gun platformer Metal Storm from Irem—which has even seen a modern re-release from retro-bit that Randall scooped up, with a bunch of extra goodies! After that, we briefly touch on Kabuki: Quantum Fighter from HAL Laboratories (yes, that HAL Laboratories?!?!?), before springboarding into yet another conversation about difficulty in retro games, versus the modern indie games that might give some of us all the ‘retro' we need... We're back from the Christmas break and ready to dive into gaming and dadding! In this episode, we cover the VGBC picks of Metal Storm on the NES and Alien Hominid on the Gamecube. We'll also go over some holiday pickups over the Christmas holiday. Benjamin has a new baby!
Let's kick off the new year by looking at 2020's hottest NES release: A reissue of Irem classic Metal Storm by Retro-Bit Entertainment (and Castlemania Games, and Limited Run Games, and so on). While Metal Storm came out in U.S. back in the day, this rerelease is actually a new conversion of the Japanese game that shipped a year after America's cart and included some new features, including an introductory story cinematic, new difficulty settings, different color schemes for many graphics, and some handy built-in cheat codes. It's new! And old! It's good. Special thanks to Retro-Bit for this review copy. Preorders for this new version of the game are still available at https://castlemaniagames.com/collections/frontpage/products/metalstorm-collectors-edition Video Works is funded through Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/gamespite) — support the show and get access to every episode up to two weeks in advance of its YouTube debut! And be sure to check out the Retronauts podcast (http://www.retronauts.com), where I (and many others!) tackle a much wider array of classic gaming topics each week.

It’s the film that MadMaxMovies.com describes as “Mad Max 2 mixed up with Star Wars.” Metalstorm is the tale of Dogen (Jeffrey Byron), our leather-clad, fast-driving hero and his pursuit of the villainous Jared-Syn (Mike Preston) who is determined to harvest enough soul energy to dominate the wasteland. To defeat his enemy, Dogen must find a mystical crystal mask which can defend him from Jared-Syn’s evil magics, but sinister forces hunt our hero, including the villainous cyborg, Baal. If this movie sounds ridiculous, rest assured, it is.

Colin squirts 3-D hallucinogenic acid in the eyes of his Freak Show family with Charles Band's Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn (1983)! On a remote planet, a ranger named Dogen (Jeffrey Byron) teams up with a plucky blonde (Kelly Preston) and a washed up soldier (Tim Thomerson) to hunt down an evil magician (Mike Preston) who is leading the indigenous cyclops population (lead by Night Court's Richard Moll) into an uprising, all while dodging laser blasts, tree branches, lightning golems, and Graboids, all in mind-blowing 3-D! Phantom Troublemaker talks to Daniel Griffith of Ballyhoo Motion Pictures about his newest project, a documentary on Empire Pictures, the revolutionary movie studio that produced such genre classics as Re-Animator, Ghoulies, TerrorVision, Zone Troopers, and many more! On October 14th, Daniel launched a monstrous Kickstarter Campaign to complete the official feature documentary about the rise and fall of Empire Pictures. This exciting production, entitled Celluloid Wizards in the Video Wasteland: The Saga of Empire Pictures, follows the life of producer Charles Band (The Puppet Master series) leading up to the creation of the most ambitious B-movie studio of the 1980's. While other independent film companies were targeting the growing home video market, Band was releasing low-budget horror and fantasy features to drive-ins and multiplexes around the world. The thrilling saga of Empire Pictures will be told through the eyes of the innovative team of filmmakers and film professionals who worked together to reinvent and reinvigorate the independent film industry in the 1980s. Thus far, Daniel has interviewed more than 40 individuals to tell this epic story, including director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator, Robot Jox), director/effect artist John Carl Buechler (Troll), editor/director Ted Nicolaou (TerrorVision), actress Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), actor Richard Moll (Metalstorm, The Dungeonmaster), and director/producer Charles Band. He has also unearthed over 500 behind the scenes photographs, as well as 20 hours of rare archival video footage. Visit the official Empire Pictures website for more details! Daniel is inviting you to JOIN THE ADVENTURE and help bring this electrifying story to life. With this Kickstarter Campaign, he hopes to raise $25,000 to cover all the final production and post-production expenses. This includes filming additional interviews, digitally transferring rare 35mm film elements and trailers, covering any legal fees, and contracting award-winning illustrator Paul Shipper to create an original theatrical one-sheet campaign for the documentary. The funds will also be used to commission an original film score by renowned Empire Pictures composer Richard Band. Listen in as Phantom and Daniel discuss the impact that Empire had on their lives and taste in movies, as well as the process of creating documentaries and special features! Be sure to join the new Needless Things Podcast Facebook Group and get in on the conversation for this week’s episode!
