Parenting is not just about raising good kids—it's about raising them to know, love, and follow Jesus. Our role is to intentionally guide them through the Spiritual Mile Markers of life, transferring their dependence from us to God. What we model, they will absorb. So ask yourself: Are you creating a home where faith is lived, not just spoken? Let's be parents who don't just hope our kids find Jesus—we lead them there by the way we live, love, and trust Him ourselves.

Welcome back to The Stories Collective podcast! Pam Maurer joined us in the studio to share some significant mile markers in her life. The first mile marker is from 1992 when a tragic accident that resulted in three deaths totally changed Pam's life both in the day-to-day and spiritually. At age 36 Pam felt that she had been living a "good Christian life", but this accident caused her to reevaluate everything. She realized that she had been caught up in checking the boxes of the faith versus having a thriving relationship with Jesus. Pam shares about how she came to understand where she was at in her walk with Christ and how life changed moving forward. Pam and Sarah cover a lot of life as you'll hear about some more ups and downs in Pam's faith journey and how serving overseas and snow birding in Arizona has been a gift from God. Through teaching Sunday School Pam became very passionate about Bible study and this passion turned into a desire to ask and answer questions. God is now using Pam to help others when they have questions! She has been a writer for Got Questions since November 2022, and you'll see how even that all connects back to that first mile marker in 1992. We hope that this episode encourages you to look at your own mile markers in your life and fills you with hope as you see how faithful God has been to you. As Pam says in her interview God doesn't require that we understand but He asks that we accept by faith the sovereignty of His Lordship in our lives. Brian and Cammie just celebrated Lakepoint Church's 10th Anniversary. More than "we made it" or arriving at a set of goals, the real fruit in longevity is what grows from the values that a community holds together.
They're there – if you can find them. Sort of like an Easter egg hunt. Stone mile markers used to be the way that horseback riders and stagecoach operators knew how far they had to go to get to the County seat. At one time, there were 600 such mile markers, all in different shapes and sizes, along CT's dirt turnpikes. Now, there aren't so many, and it takes some scouting to find them. Hear Elizabeth Malloy, Executive Director of the Haddam Historical Society, a town which still has 5 stone mile markers, discuss these intriguing relics of a bygone era.

Individualism2. Idealism“The sooner this shock of disillusionment comes to an individual and to a community, the better for both. A community which cannot bear and cannot survive such a crisis, which insists upon keeping its illusion when it should be shattered, permanently loses in that moment the promise of Christian community. Sooner or later it will collapse. Every human wish dream that is injected into the Christian community is a hindrance to genuine community and must be banished if genuine community is to survive. He who loves his dream of a community more that the Christian community itself becomes a destroyer of the latter, even though his personal intentions may be ever so honest and earnest and sacrificial.”Dietrich Bonheoffer-Life Together3. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.“Many think Jesus came to earth so you and I can have a special kind of spiritual experience and then go merrily along, as long as we pray and read our Bibles and develop intimacy with the unseen God but ignore the others-oriented life of justice and love and peace that Jesus embodied.”Scot McKnight – The Jesus CreedDeuteronomy 6:6-9UpwardInwardBackwardForwardWithwardOutward“Those who aren't following Jesus aren't his followers. It's that simple. Followers follow, and those who don't follow aren't followers. To follow Jesus means to follow Jesus into a society where justice rules, where love shapes everything. To follow Jesus means to take up his dream and work for it.”Scot McKnight – The Jesus CreedDownward“Jesus wanted far more than to be accepted into one's life. He wanted to take over, and his essential call was to trust him enough to surrender one's entire being to him.”Scot McKnight – The Jesus Creed

The little children are those newborn in Christ. The young men are more developed Christians, strong and victorious in spiritual warfare while the fathers possess the depth and stability of ripe Christian experience.”John Stott“Spiritual Journey paradigms provide the perspective that there yet remains much ground to be gained spiritually. Stage theory, moreover, provides a comprehensive frame of reference for the journey. It helps us gain clarity as to where we are presently located on the continuum of maturity in Christ. It aids heighten understanding of the contours we must yet travel on the course. It assists us not to repeat past mistakes and to avoid future pitfalls. It will likely alert us to season of testing, crisis, and dark nights yet to come. It will inform us of valuable resources that can enrich prayer experience, facilitate emotional and spiritual healing, and deepen a transforming relationship with Christ.”Bruce Demarest“This means we can be in different stages in different areas. In one area we may be well along the path to wholeness, while in another area God is just beginning to awaken us to another part of our life that needs transformation. Since God always leaves us free to reject transformation, it is also possible for us to regress in this process. This our Christian pilgrimage is a complex, multifaceted, multilevel ebb and flow relationship with God.”Robert Mulholland - Invitation to a JourneyTeresa of Ávila“No one becomes so advanced that they don't often have to return to the beginning.”1. Awakening – Pre-stage2. Purgation3. Illumination“Obedience to Jesus in all things is the journey. Obedience is a far more creative, proactive, grace-powered, intelligent way of life than is normally thought in our day. The obedience Jesus called for requires judgment, discernment, creativity and initiative. It is about becoming an excellent person not an excellent rule follower. In fact, an obsessive concern with following rules will hinder your development in becoming the kind of person that does what Jesus says.”John Ortberg4. The missionary and martyr, Jim Elliot said, “Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision.
